OliviaFalconer Did you know that there's another H.I.V.E. book out? It's called The Overlord Protocol. Yeah, was awesome. Any more books in that category?

Tomorrow my mother is taking me to a used book store... and I'm not really sure what to get! D: So, I was wondering if anybody could refer a good cross-genre book that possibly involves romance and fantasy. If not, maybe a horror book? Because honestly, I have NO idea what to buy, but I want to buy something, and I would love some suggestions. <3
I checked the must read thread and found I liked three books from the list, but I'm not sure if the shop has the books or not. I'm hoping.

I've never heard of the two... but I will have to keep them in mind. After a get more money I'll probably head back to the book store.
Do you have any specific recommendations? Like maybe a favourite book that you like. That's normally how I go out and find books is by title and what somebody thinks of it. I've already found quite a few books that I like thanks to this guild. ^^
I've already went, and when I was there I grabbed The Shining by Stephen King, The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, and Icefire by Chris D'Lacey.

The first is Snow Flower and the Secret Fan followed by Peony in Love. These are the only books from Lisa See I've read, but they're both fantastic in my opinion.
And now you've reminded me that I wanted to pick up a Stephen King a few weeks ago. o:

Can any recommend a good romance with a PLOT? Please, not the Twilight series--I am so not interested. I've read a few things by Nora Roberts that weren't bad, but I'm looking to broaded my romance horizons. A lot of sci-fi romance drives me buggy because it ignores the science, and sometimes the internal logic of fantasy romance (with a few exceptions) does the same. (I don't need yet another book where the protagonists were "destined" to be together, "lifemates", or the like.)
Help!

For Mercedes Lackey, try The Fire Rose (the first of her Elemental Masters series) or The Fairy Godmother and One Good Knight (the first two in the Hundred Kingdoms series).

Tsuki no Mugen I read a Christian romance several years ago. I think it was called Love Comes Softly and took place in 19th century United States. I think I rather liked it. As long as the romances aren't Left Behind-preachy, I think I can handle them. xd Thanks for the idea! I find that some of the better Christian books that have romance in them are done by Francine Rivers. Her Mark of the Lion series is about a Messianic Jewish slave in Rome after the fall of Jerusalem (66 AD I think...) and the author did lots of research about ancient Rome so the book seriously transports you through time. I could not put the books down they were so good.

How about Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith? I don't like romance unless it's a subplot, so the fact that I like this book shows how good I think it is. In Crwon Duel, fiery Countess Meliera, her brother, and their comrades are trying to overthrow an oppressive king. There's lots of action in it, but in the second half (Court Duel when they nobles are trying to select a new king) there's much more conspiracy, intrigue and romance. New versions of Crown Duel tend to publish the two books together as a single novel how the author originally intended.

A few of us in the guild are interested in a book with a zombie as the protagonist. Does anyone know of any such thing?
