Okay... care to mention WHERE these priests are being forced to perform marriages? I have never heard of such things. It certainly isn't in Canada or the States, as we are talking about. And you mentioned that, in Canada and the US, everyone has the same rights. So... therefore, I'm going to make an extrapolation, since you didn't see fit to state one way or another...
You are saying that homosexuals are not people? I'm going to assume that you aren't saying that, since I would be removed from Gaia if I even started on my rant about that one.
~insert random sin here~
As has been mentioned before, marriage is really just a legal contract ~sin~ binding two people together, for an unspecified length of time. Sure, it's often used as a purely religious thing... but it isn't. You don't need to be religious to be married. A Wiccan and... say... an atheist can, indeed, get married... and we plan to...
Anyway.

3->"Laughable or hilarious because of obvious absurdity or incongruity"*
* pulled from dictionary.com
1) has nothing to do with the topic at hand. 2) and 3), on the other hand, have everything to do with it. I don't know about you... or even the gay comunity as a whole, but I find nothing humourous, laughable, or absurd about gay marriage. I smell some serious human rights violations.
And don't even try to tell me that there aren't any. Because then you're saying that gays aren't people, and you can go to FREAKING JAIL FOR THAT!!!

The law hasn't been put in place yet. It is something that has been discussed. I phrased it wrong.

I do not even think, for one minute, that gays aren't people!! How in the heck did you get that impression! They're no different than us---we are ALL sinners.

I am merely saying that it's wrong to re-write God's law just to suit our fancy. We can't just bend certain laws...because God was very clear in writing them.

If two gay people want to live together and perform some kind of ceremony to show their bonds...then they have the freedom to do that.

But to even suggest a marriage under God, when it is in every way sinful...it's absurd.

And I'm not saying it's any worse than cheating on your spouse or even robbing a bank...a sin is a sin.

NOPE!

i didn't mean to question your faith. from my limited faulty perspective it looked like you were saying that God had no rule outside of the Christian church. i guess we both need to be more careful, eh? :]

and just because they don't follow out "special code of ethics" (which isn't really completely special to Christianity anyway), does not mean it's wrong or we can't tell them to knock it off. all people have a knowledge of what's right or wrong. a hooker can deny that she (or he) believes that prostitution is wrong, but i can assure you with the deepest conviction that her conscience testifies to her that it's wrong.

and please, don't swear again.

I full well believe that God has ultimate Rule ane Sovereignty over all, if teh Law is his will, then it will happen, regardless of what teh Bill of Rights says. Though I still believe that if we breach this right, then eventually the State will assume power based on religion, and this would be a problem, as you can't base law off a single religion, else many people, even Christian(though they are of a different denmination) will be oppressed.

I realise this sounds like an extremist view, that we give an inch and teh Conservatives will take a Mile, but the impression we're already giving is that Christianity is just a grouping of Bible thumpers telling everyone they're going to hell. First Impression is usually the most powerful.

And we can tell them it's wrong and try and tell them to stop all we like, but they wont always listen. Trying to Force people to follow a Moral Standard wont get anyone to agree wih that Moral standard any more than beating them over the head with it, they will learn to loathe it.

And I'll try not to swear again, I apologise or the outburst, but the assertation that I am less in Gods eyes than I try to be is quite insulting, perhaps you can understand where I stand.

Then if that is indeed the case, then I apologize for thinking that. I wasn't in a very good mood yesterday... my love was going through a crisis, and I wasn't terribly happy with the world at that time... when I posted that particular bit, I was reading it wrong... again, I apologize for that particular bit of nastiness...
All we were saying is that marriage is quite a broad term. It doesn't HAVE to be religious in any way... and it would still be considered a mariiage... legally, anyway...
Have I offended anybody else recently?

I am not suggesting that we try and force everyone to live by God's law...I'm just saying that they shouldn't force us to abandon our faith and beleifs.

Just because the government believes homosexuality to be right, doesn't mean it is. And although we may have to "tolerate" a few of the changes...we should NOT in any way support it or live by it.

I will live by Christ, and Christ alone.

I will not condemn or put down anyone for being homosexual---but I will not pat them on the back and tell them that it's not a sin, either.

What if she's an atheist who likes sex?

she still has a conscience. the conscience is the one part (however small it is) of a human that testifies of God. everything else is like "SIIIIIIN!".
that's as far into philosophy as i dare go, because quite frankly i can't stand philosophers. if you've read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, that's how i pretty much view philosophers. :]
"we demand that we may or may not be philosophers!"

Shorty
but you and burn have basically sub-huminized homosexuals and their lifestyles, and I doubt you even know one.

...
i know several of them. please don't make assumptions like that. i am not trying to de-humanize homosexuals. but i'm saying that they shouldn't force their beliefs onto me and be considerably intolerant of what i believe. homosexuals can live together and call themselves partners. i disagree of homosexuality, but it's their right to live together. if America were to make a law allowing gay marriage, wouldn't the government be discriminating against me and many others who are against allowing gays to marry?

See... this is now a paradox. The government is damned if they do, and they're damned if they don't. If they don't allow gay marriages, then the homosexual community will be all in an uproar. IF they do, then it'll be the religious nuts that I see that will instead. It really comes down to who is going to make less noise about it...
