That brought another frown to her face as she processed his words. While the concept of not being good enough for the object of her affections clearly did not worry her quite as much as it probably should have, the notion of "wrong gender" or "wrong species" was a new one to her. "So," she began carefully, "what you are saying is that I would not be allowed to love you because you are not a feien?"

"No." He said with a shake of his head. "Not exactly." He thought for a moment. "When it's romantic love, it's different." He told her. "Some people prefer females, others prefer males. Or if you're Marne, you prefer anyone with a pulse."

"Marne is very... Friendly," she agreed. Gaze locked to his face, though, she continued to study him closely. "Romantic love sounds complicated."

"For some." He said with a shrug. "But it seems that for feien it's a lot easier. Both Aleric and Silva have had relationships for a while..." He stopped, remembering the problems Silva had had with Ruya. But he didn't bring it up.

"You can try." He agreed. but he really doubted it would work. "But you might as well find out first. Look, Gala, you're still young. You'll probably fall in love a few times before it really works out. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try."

"But I would rather not upset someone who doesn't want me to be in love with them." She kept looking down through the water. Slowly, she shifted her weight onto one foot and extended the other out in front of her, toes pointed in mimicry of the ballerinas the Captain had watched the other night on television. "I would not want to inconvenience them." She smiled a bit to herself suddenly. "At least we do not have to worry about Silva," she added. "Or Mr. Aleric. I could not bother them about such a thing."

"Love isn't an inconvenience, Gala." Nack said. He was lying, actually, but he couldn't have her convinced otherwise. "Even if romantic love isn't returned, at least you actually did something about it. If you try then you won't regret it as much as doing nothing at all."

"Perhaps." Galatea flexed her foot thoughtfully. "Regrets are rarely any good, the Captain says. They clog up reason. It sounds like romance does, too, and yet it's something we want." She glanced up at Nack and smiled faintly. "We'll see, I suppose. But I think you are someone who it would be nice to fall in love with." Her cheeks flushed and she laughed under her breath. "Going by how nice you are, that is. I enjoy talking to you," she added. "You're very smart."

He flushed and gave her a sheepish smile, not really knowing how to react to it. "You would be, too." He said. "So if things don't work out for you, I'll take you to the drive in!" He said rashly.
"Heck, even if they do we could do that." He said with a grin. "We'll steal snacks and watch movies until two or three in the morning." He was already looking forward to it. "Just have to sneak out when Nick's not watching. He always ruins the ends of movies."
