What could it be...?

Cuteness!

Lucifer Force
Gyre yawned. All this scritching was making her tired. And Waya looked very...soft...

Plop!

Gyre plopped on top of Waya, snuggling into the wolf Legend's furry coat-thing. Very soft, and smelled nice, too. Yawning again, she folded her wings and began to doze off.

"Woofy..."

Britain
Gyre, Keita decided, was a very smart girl. He joined her, nuzzling into the furry thing...it was warm, and maybe the woof wasn't quite so bad after all. >.> "Mrrrrrr....." He whispered, and snuggled close to Waya as he himself began to drift off. "Woof...."

Orphne
Gyre pressed into his back and Waya instantly felt less drowsy with one hand fewer on his ears. He raised a brow and looked up to see Keita still scritching him. It felt so nice, that Waya turned on his side, gave Gyre a hug, and nuzzled Keita's tiny fingers as the little fawn moved to press into him as well. Waya flicked his tail from side to side.

How precious is that? We need a camera...

"Gyre?"

Growl....growl...

The bird child sat at the sliding glass door, which lead to the backyard. She growled menacingly at some unseen creature. Lu was curious now, as Gyre was not answering her calls like she normally did. Walking up to the door, she peeked out.

The neighbor's cat.

Gyre, she'd come to see, hated cats. Domestic cats, big cats, any cat. But not Faekats, for some reason. Maybe, to her, their floppy ears make them look like rabbits? Or they possess some quality or smell that makes them tolerable? Lu didn't understand it. She thought that it could be the smell. Or the cat's non-magical properties.

They had had a run-in previously, when Gyre was playing out in the backyard. The cat had strolled into her play-area and attempted to pee on her. Gyre wouldn't have any of that, so she bite the thing as hard as she could. The feline shrieked with rage, but Lu picked up her child before the cat could do any harm. That was a week ago.

Perhaps it came for round two?

It reminded Lu of Gyre's encounter with Loki. Even though he wasn't a cat, Gyre disliked him as if he was. Strange. Maybe it's that whole "dog hates cat who hates bird" thing.

Picking her up away from the door, Lu wandered into the kitchen to prepare a snack. It would take her mind off of the neighbor's cat for a while, she hoped.

School in Durem was rough today. Finals week has arrived upon us. That, coupled with what happened when I returned home, has added to my unecessary levels of stress. You won't believe how far Gyre's taken the feud with the neighboring cat.

Apparently, as I was told by Neruo, the cat came across the fences that linked our yards, and plopped down into the grass. Gyre was napping under the tree, and the cat came to pee on her! Literally! But before it could do so, Gyre chomped down on its tale. It tried to scratch her, and again, she placed the mask over her face.

She turned into a falcon, as Neruo decribed it.

She chased off the cat, scaring the living daylights out of it. Mrs. Mallard, the neighbor, called me to complain about keeping a bird. She didn't believe me when I tried to explain that it wasn't really a bird - it was my 'daughter', and that I was sorry any harm came to her cat. She, of course, wouldn't have anything of that. She insisted I pay her cat's vet bill.

According to Neruo, who was watching the entire thing, the cat never sustained any injury. Gyre just chased him off. The lady's gotta just be pulling my chain. Whatever, lady. Your cat's an a** anyway.

Ah HA!

I found Gyre a song she cannot live without. I feel so proud of myself. Normally, she only stands instrumental music (which I have very little of) with wind instruments (which I have even fewer of). This time, though, I was placing more presents under the tree with Christmas music on.

Gyre and Lucius were sitting in their playpen next to me when 'Carol of the Bells' came on. Gyre looked positively entranced. She swayed back and forth happily, with her eyes close and her wings open. It was so darling! She likes bells, it seems.

Lucius was giggling and clapping, of course imitating his older sister. It was so sweet to watch the two bird children sway in their pens.

I think they're very excited for Christmas. I read them the story of Santa Claus, and both are determined to meet the big man in red.

Well, our Christmas was wonderful. Gyre quit bothering the cat next door long enough to frolic through all the tore wrapping paper that was created the other day. She seemed to pay more attention to the boxes and paper than to the presents she got. She's still got two o fthe boxes we used in her playpen. She refuses to part with them.

She recieved several things, including beef jerky, some bird plushies and a new cushion for her bed. She also got (from Santa, mind you) two gorgeous glass snowglobes.

After tearing her wrapping paper and boxes to shreds, I'm sure she'll at least take a look at them.

Strange Thing

The strangest thing happened yesterday...after opening presents, I took both Lucius and Gyre outside to play in the small amount of snow. But again, like when I first recieved her, she crawled straight to our large elm tree. Nothing seemed special about it to me at all. I can't see anything extraordinary about a plain old elm tree. But Gyre seems almost...drawn to it. I have no idea why.

I tried to pick her up when it was time to go back inside, but she refused and tried to bite me again. She hadn't done this in months. She had gotten to be very much imporved as far as behavior goes. But now, when she gets near this tree, she seems to have some sort of relapse. After Lucius convinced her to let me pick her up, we all went inside. Both bird children promptly went to sleep.

Too curious for words, I wandered back outside to inspect the tree. I even climbed up into its lower branches. There, I spotted a good-sized hole. I myself could not fit into it, and I really couldn't tell what could. It was took dark inside to see what was down there, but I suspected that perhaps some sort of insect made its home in there, and I dared not reach my hand down in it to find out. Shrugging, I went back inside.

The Hole, the Enemy

Yes, you guessed it. It was bound to happen eventually anyway. It's really not like I could avoid it at all... Not really, anyway.

Lucius and Gyre sat in the grass near the base of the tree, looking up at me, giggling. Lucius clapped his hands and Gyre laughed loudly as they both stared up at me. What were they laughing at, you ask?

I got stuck. In the tree. In the hole in the top of the tree's trunk. Yup.

Okay, the hole isn't that big, but I accidentally got my foot stuck. I headed up there as soon as the light would let me, early the next morning. I got my flashlight, bug spray and skillet, just in case. I had the flashlight in my mouth, ready to do some heavy-duty hole exploration, when I slipped and got stuck.

Of course, the children find this very amusing...

I'd been sitting up there for about three hours before Patience took the children out to look for me. I didn't shriek or anything, as I didn't want to worry anyone. Of course, Patience, being the wonderful second mommy-in-command, she took the children out. They were as worried as she.

But now they were laughing at me...and my face actually did look something like this: stare

Anyway, long story short, Patience actually climbed up into the tree and used her Vine Whip as a sort of winch tp pull me out. I now have a lovely swollen ankle and can't walk too well, but I'm out of that blasted tree. I didn't even get to see what was in the stupid hole! A whole morning wasted...and my ankle hurts...

Quiet honestly, I know I could've used my powers to squish down my foot, but by the time I thought of that, the kids were outside. I don't want them to see what I can do. Especially at night. I try to never let anyone know where I go at night...

Of Preoccupation

You remember when I wrote about how Gyre loved the sound of wind instruments? I deducted that it was because of her aviary nature that she loved them, and I still think I am right. However, I more recently discovered an innate desire she has for another instrument. Let me explain...

I headed out to Gambino as I normally did on Sunday mornings, looking for sales on the streets and in the marketplace. One elderly woman was having a sale near the back of the marketplace, and hardly anyone had come to her. I caught sight of this sale by accident, catching a glimpse of a very large, golden object. I had Gyre in my arms. I could never roll her around in a stroller by herself. She hated being so low to the ground without anyone to talk to.

Gyre flailed her arms in the general direction, and after seeing something golden, we headed that way. The old woman looked like she was reaching the end of her life - very wrinkled, shriveled and hunched over. She shuffled around, showing us her different wares. Many random, useless things. I was about tot leave, when she struck a chord on the golden object we had seen first - her harp.

Immediately, Gyre's eyes went wide. She thrashed in my arms, clawing at me to be let down. I all but dropped her as she couldn't speed away fast enough to latch onto the harp. Even after much coercion, she still would not let go. The old woman chuckled, a little cough coming afterwards. I love the sounds of the harp, and it was in wonderful condition. Cheap, as well. I paid for it, but we could not get it home on her own. The old woman had her young, strong grandson drag it home with us. Placing it in the sunlight of the living room, he left with a charming smile.

Gyre, of course, was latched firmly onto the harp the whole way home. Still, I cannot play it. I haven't the slightest idea how...

And after the ladies came and left, the old woman reached up to her face... She pulled off the mask of age, instead, by magic, became lithe and light. With eyes that twinkled like cheerful stars in the sky, she smiled. Her ears twitched as she wrapped up shop, which wasn't even there.

The sound of the harp rippled through the room in waves. Lu woke up early that morning, staring out the section of misplaced curtain. Not even sunrise. The room was quiet and dark as she liked it, but she heard the enchanting music coming from outside her sanctuary. Almost blindly, she sat up and began to tiredly shuffle in that direction.

The carpet was surprisingly clean, she noticed, as she never even looked up as she shuffled. Her eyes didnt even function properly during this hour. Who would be making music at four in the morning?

Must be the neighborhood psychopath.

Almost sounds like a beginner's interpretation of some Zelda song... she mentally muttered as her exhausted, and slightly perturbed, form reached the living room. Slowly creaking her head up to its normal daytime position, her eyes fell upon the harp's player.

Gyre.

No, she was not normally tall enough to even reach the harp's strings, but the ingenious baby was so determined to grasp the strings that she took books from the lowers shelves of bookcases (and a few light phone books) and stacked them so that she could reach them. Faustus, the sleeping lionlike Sunchild, was found nearby. He must've helped.

"Oh my..." Lu whispered, in utter shock. Gyre never turned around. It neever occured to her that her falcon child could have such musical talent, let alone be able to create a recognizable melody. Lu had played many Zelda games for hours on end in the house. Gyre must've memorized parts of one of the song enough to replecate it as best she could on the harp.

Not wanting to interupt in the slightest, Lu sat down on the carpet, forgetting all about the other bird child who went missing last night...

Gyre sat up from her seat at the harp, watching her mother frantically search for her missing baby brother. Gyre shrugged, seeing as that was taken care of. Her ears perked when she heard the doorbell ring. Faustus sat up and grabbed the child by the scruff of her shirt ot carry her to the door.

Gyre flailed at the doorknob, eventually (meaning, after a good half hour of constant flailing) getting the door to open. Upon the porch sat a wonderfully wrapped gift. Gyre blinked at it as Faustus set her down. He trotted out and started to push the gift in with his great nose. Gyre clapped, cheering him on as her mother ransacked the house, searching for Lucius.

Gyre immediately began to tear open the gift, narrowly missing shredding the card. Faustus gentely scooped it up in his teeth and sat it down on the couch. He laid down next tot he falcon child as shreds of paper went flying...

"Ehh?" was the sound uttered from the falcon baby's lips. What was this? A crystal?

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

And what in the world did it do? Gyre's infant mind tried to wrap itself around the crystal as she picked it up to examine it. Smelled okay, and it was a pretty color. She shook it, hard, as Faustus watched. Could poke out an eye with that...

A bit disappointed with no reaction from the crystal, she did what any baby in times like this would do.

She put it in her mouth.

"Bleh!" she squealed and spat it out. Tasted very bad. Very, very bad. Never eat crystal again. Perhaps Lu could do something with it? When she was finished freaking out about missing baby brother, that is.

Harp time! Taking the crystal with her teeth instead of tongue, she crawled back tot he musical instrument. Lu was bust outside, screaming, but she didnt care. All there was in the world was harp. Faustus used his muzzle to push the baby back up onto her stack of books to lay it again.

Gyre let the crystal fall gently to the carpet, mentally labeling it, "To figure out later."

"Go on." Faevan parked her car by the curb, checking the address again. "This is it."

Prana nodded her head, getting out of the car and carefully carrying a small cardboard box with little holes in it. A muffled "ribbit" drifted out of one of the holes, and she left it gently on the doorstep with a smile, turning back to the car. On top of the box, she left a note. It fluttered in the breeze as the Legend and her Guardian drove away into the afternoon.

Note for Gyre

Hi Gyre,
I caught these yesterday when I was out with my Mom, and thought you might like to have one. Please take good care of him.

"Fwoggee!" came a happy squeal as the falcon child crawled after the frog. It croated and bounced along as if nothing was chasing it, and that excited Gyre even further. Lu noticed her semi-fascination with the crystal and had fastened it into a stand of sorts. Gyre had come to always sit somewhere near the stand to gaze at the crystal.

The frog had wandered off into the other room, possibly to be caught by some other member of the house. It was treated well, though, and always had the option of sitting near the backyard pool. Gyre crawled back to the harp and sat upon her "throne" of sorts. (which was made previously using phonebooks and other assorted reading materials)

The harp was a pleasing sight in the room, and Gyre had recently only wanted to sleep near it. Her nest of a bed was temporarily moved to this new location to be near both the crystal and the harp.

The light shone down through the crystal, causing it to sparkle. It was a beautiful amberlike color, which almost matched Lucius' eyes. To Lu's knowledge, the crystal didn't do much of anything, but she couldn't help but be curious about it.

Gyre stared at it awhile until turning her attentions to the harp, plucking out a few choice notes.

The crystal resonated, pulsating in the morning light shining through the curtains. Again, falling asleep by the harp, Gyre awoke with a start. The crystal beamed at her, a tad unsightly with its now sick, yellow glow. Silver eyes blinked at it suspiciously before returning to the harp and the melodies which seemed so familiar.

Why was the crystal doing this? Gyre didn't seem to care as she plucked out, slowly, the notes from a melody she heard on the television the day before. She seemed to remember things, flashes of them, whilst plucking the strings. Things about a city in the trees...
