I'm homeschooled, since my mom doesn't know Japanese, I teach myself. I guess that's why she wanted me to take French instead... In my state, it still counts as a course. So I guess yes and no? sweatdrop

I'm studying Japanese full time this semester, but I'm starting from the very beginning, learning hiragana and how greet people, stuff like that. It's quite boring going over stuff that I know like the back of my hand. But there aren't any advanced classes running until later in the year, so I'll just have to put up with this for another 6 weeks or so.
I guess the plus side is that I get access to some awesome books about Japanese without having to pay for them. There's a comprehensive guide to grammar that I find very helpful and interesting.

I've just started my fourth semester of Japanese at my community college. It's the highest level Japanese offered here.

I just pick up what i've learned from online tutorials and books and such. I'm thinking of getting Rossetta Stone now. Looks enticing.

Mr. Smith (Books use that name all the time)
I'm taking it in high school, but I have to commute to that school and then at lunch get to my registered one.
I think I'm advanced? I'm a grade 10 in a grade 11/12 split. Not many people take that class so it's like that. Sad thing is... they know like 10 kanji and I know 313......... and I'm ahead of the grade 12s.... but need to work on speech/ã‚“.... sad.... don't know why I'm taking that class.... crying

I took IB Japanese in high school. I actually graduated with a 100% whee I'd already learned a lot on my own, so the classes were really easy. I probably won't take anymore classes, since they seem to start at the basics, which is a bore and a waste of time and money. I've been trying to learn all the kanji, but unfortunately, I'm quite lazy...I'll learn a whole bunch(I was up to 1600 for meanings at one point), but then I'll stop and forget most of them. I'm trying to get myself back into gear now sweatdrop

um.. I'm in Japanese 108: Readings in Modern Japanese at my college, which is second semester of... 4th year equivalent? I guess? It's not really a "language course" persay, it's a "apply what you learned in the language courses" type of class, we just read literature and newspaper articles and random stuff, and then translate them into english.
My teacher is Hanami-sensei, and he is a baller.

Aeolya At the university I took Japanese with Tomasi-sensei (he's Italian, but lived in Japan for 9 years) and it was an absolute joy. I have yet to meet another teacher half his equal in enthusiasm and patience with his students. Sadly I won't be able to take classes with him next year as he's not teaching the 300-level, but I'll have great memories (and grammar!) forever. You wouldn't happen to have taken it at WWU would you?? eek
Anyway, I'm only in my first year of Japanese, and my professor's name is Yoshida-sensei. She's so cute~ heart Very easy to relate to and a great teacher. 3nodding
