The old fae snarled. "Does the Unseelie court not teach you anything?" he barked, his words whipping through the darkness. When Varian spoke, he could see him again- and this bothered the fae. What was with this influx of power?

"They are masks of mortality, you idiots." Eee-diots, really. That was how he pronounced the word. "We fae are immortal, and you've aged your flesh!" They couldn't work to strip the fae of their immortality complete. Not really, but it was close enough. "They _caused_ your elders to vanish!" into pixie people.

Which was why the older fae was agitated. So many children. Where was the person who needed to keep an eye on them? Why was the room was small? Finally, dimmly, everything seemed to settle into place.

"Do you serve the Unseelie king?" he demanded.

Because he knew the members of the Seelie court, and he had never seen them aruond.
PostPosted: Wed Jul 26, 2006 11:40 pm

"I don't seem to have a problem in that regard."

Aged his flesh? Well. Varian couldn't help but feel a bit of scorn towards that - after all, he had taken care of his flesh just fine. Even if he didn't understand how, he just knew that he had. And somehow, it didn't surprise him that he could do such things.

He was powerful, was he not?

Such arrogance.

"I serve no one."

An icy voice, filled with all his usual arrogance. The silly boy didn't know when to keep his mouth shut, or when to be afraid.

And while he may not know what these 'courts' were, it raised his hackles that anyone would think he served another. Varian was not a follower - he was one who would inspire his own followers.

A child's dream, but one that he hoped to someday bring to fruitation.

The girl was not at all pleased with the entirety of the matter. She knew very well that she could no longer be considered ‘pretty’ by any length, as well as she knew that Romeo had been taking the hit for them. Without any further regards to her properly cultivated manners, she glared into the turned away features. Those depthless obsidian pools DEMANDED him to recognize her or to simply be cast aside as the gaze softened and an unusually sweet smile came. Sweet indeed…but cold as the moonless winter nights.

“You ought be ashamed…” She began, considering her words as they came. “Ashamed of yourself for needing such measures to confront a gathering of children, such as we. I suppose you cannot help but compensate for your own ignorance of the matter, for not having guarded these things better.” A gesture was then made to the masks. “If they were so dangerous, you ought have guarded them better – so do not take out your own self loathing upon the rest of us for your own fault. True, we shouldn’t have disregarded the warning, but you still haven’t any right.”

“As for your King, that age has fallen aside. We have no kings or Queens but our own conscience in regard to our actions. Speaking of…” Her gaze turned to the ocarina. “I was hoping to have that back sometime, you know. I’m sure I could make it work with a bit more practice…”

That had to be the most Alice had spoken in her entire existence. The tones came as polite as one pleased, but strangely condescending of the elder she had been too eager to respect moments before. Truth of the matter was – Alice did NOT like bullies, and he looked enough like one for her to shove her good behavior. At least for now anyways…

She looked at Romeo then. Her eyes shimmered with concern. “Are you alright?”
PostPosted: Thu Jul 27, 2006 4:36 am

"Fools, ignorant fools." when the girl spoke and he could see her again, he was furious. "Do not speak." he said, his words a stinging barb. "As if you know what you speak of, child. I am not the guardian to these masks, and the age has not passed."

Words, filled not this time with pain, but with whispers. As if they had triggered off a wind descending from a desert with the heat of the sun still caught in it's passage.

"You do not know what you speak of." his words were calmer, now that he realized only their faces had been affected by their actions. "You, boy." he snapped. "Whatever you did to yourself, do it to the others. You are fortunate that one of your own has developed such a useful gift." and then he realized.

Serving no one could be an arrogant response, for he knew the children had not undergone their quest. But to speak so blatantly, in ignorance of the king and queen?

"I would not speak that way if I were you." he said, his voice holding the softest of threats. But not from him, as if he was warning the girl who would dare open her mouth.

"We are sidhe." Shee, the word a soft carress. "Our time has not ended, and the King and Queen WILL hear of your actions."

He looked. Four. Four, he could handle. If one did the faces, and the others could keep themselves from touching other artifacts, maybe he could go home faster.

Romeo's heart was beating a mile-a-minute. It worked. HE might have been verbally abused for the time being - but at least none of the others were, and that's what he was after in the end. He stepped back, and searched for his sibling in the shadows, before he realized he was being spoken to by Alice. He turned to her, and nodded. softly.

"I.... I'm ok. Are you?"

He turned to Varian.

"Are you ok?"

Tybalt spoke - finally, and in much fiercer tones than one would have imagined from him. He was ANGRY. His eyes narrowed, and his hackles raised. He'd just watched his brother, twin, and best friend get ripped up one side and down the other for something that wasn't even his fault. He hissed.

"You'll get away from my brother! It doesn't matter WHO activated the masks! You don't get to speak to him that way! He's just a kid! We all are!"

Another hiss.

"I don't care HOW big you are, or HOW strong you are. You talk to my brother like that again, and I'll.... I'll.."

He thought for a moment.

"I'll claw you to death!"
PostPosted: Thu Jul 27, 2006 10:08 am

While Romeo's intentions were noble, it simply wouldn't have affected Varian for the man to yell at him. Because the boy was simply too obsessed with himself and his arrogance, that it would simply fly over his head.

Glancing at Romeo, the vain boy gave a curt nod. Of course he was fine.

He glared at the fae - how dare he order him around! - he turned his attention back to the others, stepping over to Romeo first. Why? Well, the other boy had kept him from getting hit. He wasn't going to thank him, but being 'treated' first was all the gratitude he was going to get.

Now, how had he done this...?

Oh yes.

Focusing on trying to make it what it had been, he could see the skin of Romeo's face 'melt' and begin to shape. It hadn't been painful for himself, so he assumed it wouldn't be for the other. It had just felt...very strange.

After he finished, he eyed the other boys face before speaking, "Does it look right?"

He hadn't paid too much attention earlier, so it wouldn't surprise him if he got a detail or two wrong. But really - if he got anything wrong, surely it was just something that would make him look better. So his question was more rhetorical then anything else.

“I’m fine to.” The reply was soft, half held in curiousity for Tybalt’s outburst. Well at least she wasn’t the only other one besides Romeo. Her attentions then turned back towards the Knight and his previous comment about the King and Queen.

“Let them hear, than. Although I do like your tone a little better now…I know my former rantings were impudent, but you must understand our situation as well. You’re the first adult Fae I’ve ever seen, and I’m sure that goes for the others to.” A little smile came and Alice reached out to gently lay a hand upon the mount he rode. “So, Sir Knight, if we are so ignorant ourselves – than I can only beg that you enlighten us. It is the only way we’ll learn anything, you know.”

And it was also an excuse for her to hide the loom behind her, by means of her foot. She did NOT want him to take that away…and besides that, she liked learning history.

Romeo glanced at his twin with something akin to.. fear? Maybe. Fear and a little concern. He looked like he was about to tear someone's head off. Was he ok?

"Tybs... I'm fine... really... calm down."

The knight fae would probably have answered Alice's question. And he had turned, calmer, graver to do just that when something happened. Maybe it was a delayed reaction-- or maybe, something had been triggered off before, and it was only that things were being forced to the surface now.

Because it looked like the man had been clawed from the inside out. Thin creases on his skin appeared as if there were claws inside him trying to scratch it's way out, weak enough that they didn't break skin, but strong enough that the small fae could see them. Across the face, the chest, like snakes wiggling under the surface.

The dragon let out a furious snarl, a growl that sounded almost human, and then the two vanished.

Taken away perhaps, to safety, to proper lodgings. Whatever it was, the four fae were left alone once more.

((aaaand, technically? power seeking has finished! post a reaction, whatever you want. I'll post the summary of the powers next, as well as someone coming to pick the fae up.))

Varian had movd on and fixed everyone's faces when the knight began to be clawed from the inside out, so his full attention was fixed on the fae. It was frightening, to be sure. So it was no surprise that when he spoke next, his words were shrill

"We need to leave now."

Before that happened to them, or another scary thing happened. Though really, he didn't care too much about what actually happened to the knight; he figured the fae could probably take care of himself, so why should he care?

But still. That had been scary.

Tybalt snarled hard, and calmed as the other fae vanished, leaning on his brother, as the outburst of anger had drained him. He wasn't generally used to having such displays of raw emotion. He sighed, shivered.

"Sorry... It's just... he hurt you, and...."

"I know... I know. But I'm fine now, we're all fine. Except for possibly that fae that was... I don't KNOW what."

He shrugged, and hugged his brother, whose face Varian had rearranged.

"Heh - Tybs. You look better than ever. Is everyone else ok?"
PostPosted: Sun Jul 30, 2006 10:47 am

Alice rubbed her features after Varian had succesfully treated them, and again the sweet smile had dawned over them. Her attentions turned to the saviour of her visage. "Thank you for fixing that little dilemna...Your powers ARE terribly useful in situations such as these." Which didn't come up too often, but she would let him feel glorified for the moment being.

After having thanked Varian - Alice had glimpsed the last moment of the knights' presence. Such a pity...A soft sigh of disconentment drifted from her lips as she reveled in a sea of new questions that had come to life with this whole event. Who were the King and Queen? Were they really being watched? And if so - than for what reason? The others certainly didn't know, but one way or another she was sure they would find out sooner than they might be ready. Either way, Alice drifted from the others to pick up the loom she'd become so fond of. "Do you think they might let us take something from here?...Besides Varian's new skill, that is."

Varian eyed the loom Alice seemed to be mooning over, before giving a shrug and a suggestion. Because somehow, he didn't think they were supposed to take anything.

"Find a way to hide in your clothes."

If she wanted it, she was going to have to sneak it out. At least, that's what it seemed like to him.

It was percisely at that moment that the tutors rushed into the room. A frenzy, really, as the six headed directly to their own charges. Hands moved, voices soothed and there was the general feeling of relief. Relief at knowing the children were alright. Relief at knowing nothing had gone wrong.

"How did you get here?" one asked, and it was obvious that these words were directed at Varian's tutors. "You're supposed to be on your quest."

"The king." the woman hissed. A hand pressed under the surface of her skin like a soul trying to make it's way out, a shadow of nothingness. "And you'd remember to keep your mouth shut."

The drow fae bridled. These two were different- from the Unseelie court, unlike the other four. They had been raised here, at the project and sometimes... sometimes, they felt the gap between them.

"Are you okay?" Alice's tutors asked her one last time, shaken. "I should never have let Shy convince me this was good."

"Because it is." A man barked. "You know the children discover their powers better, if we aren't around."

She shook her head, still frightened. "Come, now. We'll take care of you. And teach you too." she exhaled. "I suppose the male fae has given you more questions, hmm?" her smile was gentle as she took Alice's hand, nodding.

"And you best leave everything you find in this room." she said, quietly. Had they been watching from some corner? Probably. Perhaps. "If it's meant to be with you, it'll follow you out."

And with this, the tutors effectively tried to pack up their own fae and leave the room. To coddle them, ensure they were truly alright... and to explain.

OOC WISE:

The tutors will take your fae away and explain the powers. Of course, I'm going to give you more information then you really need-- the tutors won't know all this, mind? They'll tell them about the courts. The Seelie being the light, the Unseelie being the dark. And yes, all fae do swear vows of alleigance in the future. That's what the teen tutors will do themselves.

They'll explain, that they will have lessons to go to now. Twice a week they'll tap their powers with the fae. The lessons are completely optional to be arpeed- but I will expect at least two posts involving the powers, while your fae are children.

If you would like to set up a lesson arpee, let me know. It's not required however-- you may want to do it yourself. The tutors will also teach your fae lessons on the basics history, etc involving the fae.

POWERS

Alice: Her's is the hardest to explain, but it works the way a story teller might. She doesn't have complete control over it, and I'll explain this in a second. What Alice does, is by some gift, make things available when she needs it. The conch probably never existed in the room, but because Alice needed it, her powers tapped into it and bought it around. The masks, their gifts might never have been triggered, but it was because she desired _something_ from the encounter. It works the way a story teller might. Events, places, people might appear and happen subtly when she needs it to. It's not something she can control at a grand scale, (she can't make it rain, have the queen die, her crush fall in love with her), but she can make it damn easy for these things to happen. ^^ At a smaller level, items, people appearing, lost objects etc, will be there when she needs it. Liz, if you need to go through this one with me, let me know.

Varian: The easiest to explain, really. He has powers over the flesh. He can mend your skin the way a sculptor can play with wax. As he grows older, he should be able to merge two people as one, attach different animal bits to each other- but only on the surface. Technically while if he gave two people bunny ears, their children will have bunny ears, he cannot work on really deep levels, ie: mixing a man and a wolf? He can do it on the surface, but he'll need someone else's help to fuse veins, organs, metabolisms, etc.

Romeo: He pulls on shadows. He hides people very well, and while he cannot do it in a room with no shadows, he can still make people look over them as if they aren't there. Of course, this disappaates the moment they talk or move too loudly. Sound, and scent can give them away.

Tybalt: Tybalt's gift resembles healing. Resembles, because while he cannot touch skin the way Varian can, of the body the way Donovan can, he can make things happen. It's in the voice, kind of. Diseases, illnesses, even the mere flu, he can give to people by saying it. The way the fae was 'clawed' to death. This works very well, but has some disadvantages as well. He cannot give another fae AIDS, for example. It has to be something that is technically, possible. (Shut up. >> being clawed from the inside out is possible!) It will be very weak at first, and it is probably one of the most unstable gifts because of it's nature.

Congratulations to our four new fae!
