Mathiaz jumped as well and stared up at the man who was apparently their teacher. He blinked for just a moment, then grinning. "I'll push it!" he called out. He'd already touched the thing once after all ... and nothing happened then. Besides, if the -teacher- was telling them to push the button ... well, they should push the button, right? He alraedy liked this class better.

Grave watched, agast, as his newly-met classmate stepped forward and volunteered. Well, so much for Mathiaz... Grave thought to himself. Grave watched on, silent and aprehensive as the professor known as Kortus stepped forward toward the Sanguine boy with a big grin on his caprian face and laughed.
"Very well then, brave boy!" Kortus easily scooped up the machine in one of his lower hands and held it up in front of Mathiaz. "Arms up, over your head." Kortus commanded, his voice jovial.
Grave couldn't contain himself any longer. "Excuse me, professor...What is that thing?" Kortus turned his milky eyes on Grave and raised an eyebrow.
"This? Why, it's a techno-equip, of course!" Grave made to protest that he knew that, and meant 'what sort of techno-equip is it' but Kortus was no longer looking in his direction, instead he was lifting the contraption to put it onto Mathiaz.

Mathiaz blinked at those instructions, swallowing nervously. Well ... maybe this wasn't such a good idea ...

But he -had- volunteered, so he moved up toward the teacher a bit and did as instructed. "Now what?" he asked, trying not to -sound- nervous.

Kortus chuckled and dropped the contraption over Mathiaz' arms and over his head where it fell to rest with a heavy thud.
Grave squeezed his eyes shut, waiting for an explosion, a howl of pain. There was nothing. He opened his eyes, and there Mathiaz stood, the round part of the machine around his chest, the glowing lights on the front of his body, and Grave could see the third column had started to light up too.
"Go ahead, boy!" Kortus crowed, amused. "Pick a letter and give it a shot!"
Pick a letter? Grave wondered to himself. That's right...he'dseen that C pop out from the rest of the machine a little when the C column had fully lit up. All of that was fine and good...but what would happen when Mathiaz pressed of those letters?

Amelia still stood upon the stool, her view now unobscured as she watched the pack slip down over Mathiaz's head. She watched as Professor Kortus encouraged the boy to pick a button, and she covered her mouth with one hand, curious as to what would happen.

Would he shoot up in the air? She wondered if Mathiaz could control the pack once it was activated.

"Uhm ... ok..." he replied, eyeing those buttons for a moment or two, craning his neck down to look at them. Finally, he just picked the first one in the row. That was logical, right?

Grave watched as Mathiaz stared at the letters for a while, and then, apparently at a decision, pressed the I. Grave held his breath.
There was a soft flash of blue light that sped up through the tube protruding from the side of the chest of the machine and up to Mathiaz' throat where the techno-ring sat. That was it...no screams of pain, no flashy magic...
If Grave could've seen into the boys mind he would have ssen a very different scenario. With the Intelligence booster activated, Ether had been fed to Mathiaz' brain, and was enhancing his reasoning capacity, his intelligence, his focus, his awareness....for 2 minutes.
While the Ether pumped up through the tube, the blue lights beneath the I deactivated one by one until the bar was empty.

His eyes went wide at that, as he did notice the change. Whoa ... ok -that- was definitely a rush. And he wanted to -do- something with it before ... whatever it was wore off.

He looked down at those buttons again ... if I stood for intelligence ... then what were the others?

Mind racing faster than usual, it didn't take long before he thought he had those other buttons figured out. And next, he moved, and pushed the A.

Grave watched Mathiaz looked down at the buttons and press the A. Would this one do anything more than the little the I appeared to have done. Grave watched the tube, waiting for the coloured light to feed up the vessel. Nothing happened. He looked back at the A and its column. All of the lights in that column were still dark. They had never fully charged before Kortus appeared. They had gotten as far as the start of the third column when the machine had been interrupted. Sure enough, Grave saw, the half-lit red column under the S had not increased any further since the press of the I. Hrm.
Graves' ponderings were interrupted by the raucus laughter of Kortus.
"I think he likes it!" Kortus came towards Mathiaz and slapped him lightly on the back, "Look, Kid. You can't activate a Boost until that supply has charged. The lights will charge up if the pack is not drawn on to dispense energy - such as in using a Boost during charging. Understand? Oh, Intelligence Boost...of course you understand." Kortus trailed off in a mumbling mutter to himself. "No matter!" He boomed at the class. "Welcome to Crafting! I'm your Prof, Kortus! Shall he get started?" And with that Kortus began to make odd hand gestures and mumble under his breath. The markings all over his skin pulsed with a glowing green light, and then, when he looked up, the light in the room had altered from dusky red to clear and bright laboratory white. "Take your seats everyone!"

Mathiaz blinked and fought not to look embarrassed at that. Apparently, boosted intelligence did nothing for common sense. But well ... it wasn't his fault that he hadn't known. And with that reasonable thought, he nodded to himself and went to find a seat.

Since he hadn't been asked to take the thing off ... he simply didn't.

Amelia watched as Mathiaz pushed buttons and for a short period of time, seemed to be a bit--quicker than usual. Interesting, she thought, wondering how many technoequips had features like that. It could really come in handy with spellcasting, she thought. What else could the pack do? Now, she was quite curious.

As the lighting changed, she hopped down from the stool and took a seat toward the middle of the class, near the aisle. Next time there was a demonstration, she'd have a better view. Watching Kortus take command of the class, she noticed that his tattoos were glowing a faint green...interesting. It would be cool to glow.

Pulling out her notebook and quill, she prepared to take notes.

Grave scurried to take a seat, but the long desks were filling up quickly. He glanced around and caught sight of a familair white bob of hair. He slipped past the other settling students and slid in behind Amelia to take the vacant seat next to her. He sat down on the bench and pulled his notebook from his satchel and drew out a sturdy indigo feather and a glass inkwell of black ink. These items he arranged fastidiously on the desk in front of his notebook and then clasped his hands over the cover of his book. He bowed his head to Amelia, and said hello, and then he opened up the little notebook and started to take some notes.
Techno-equips:
~ Require time to charge
~ Can exist without being worn as long as a techno-ring is present.
~ Use a combination of technology and some form of magic - possibly the manipulation of Ether.
~ Some can have multiple purposes.

While Grave scribbled, Kortus flexed his hands at the front of the class, waiting for every student to find a seat and get settled.

Amelia felt a woosh of air behind her, and she looked up from her notebook to see Grave slide in next to her. "Hello again," she greeted him with a smile. "That technoequip is pretty cool," she said, pointing to Mathiaz, who was still wearing the pack. "I wonder what else he'll show us?"

She saw him arrange his supplies on his desk and smiled. He was so immaculate in everything he did.

She turned her head back to her notes, occasionally peeking over at Grave's. She had been far too interested in what was going to happen when Mathiaz pushed the button than to really take note of the process of technoequips.

Kortus' Class (Crafting, Technoequips)

Technoequips:
1. Have to charge up in order to use.
2. Are stored in techno-rings.
3. Magic + Technology are definitely in use. Either?
4. Possibly multi-purpose, depending on the technoequip.

Mathiaz blinked for a moment, then noticed that Grave had gone to sit over by the girl he'd been with in the last class. And smirked ... oh no, his entertainment wasn't going to leave that easily.

He bounced up from the seat he'd chosen and quickly grabbed one on the other side of Grave. Then he leaned over, and copied the other boy's notes ... word for word.

Just because this class seemed more interesting ... it still didn't mean he wanted to do a whole lot of work.

Grave felt the bench move, causing a blotch of ink to fall onto his page and bleed in the lower right-hand corner. Blast. He looked up, annoyed and saw to hs displeasure that Mathiaz had not only followed him but was copying his notes!
Grave opened his mouth to speak, but Kortus' voice boomed through the air of the room.
"First Crafting class of term has begun as of now." The chatter died down and the class quieted. "All right now...All of you with your quills out, I want you to move them - and your notebooks - out of the way. I'm going to be coming around with techno-rings. There will be one for each group of three students. I'm going to give you all five minutes to figure out how to get the object stored within your ring out, and then we'll spend the rest of hte class discussing the items. For you bookwormy types, you'll be allowed to make diagrams and notes then...but not before. This is what we Kinesthetics lovingly refer to as Hands On. Shall we begin?" Kortus then began making his way aronud the room, reaching into a box he carried and placing a worn techno-ring on each of the long tables.
A techno-ring of tarnished silver metal clattered to rest on the desk in front of Grave. He looked up at the teacher and caught a smile on the Caprian's lips. Kortus winked once and moved on to the rest of the class.
Grave stared down at his ring. It just looked like a silver hoop, much like the ones on his own clothing. Grave continued to stare at it, his mind searching for a way to activate the simple metal hoop, while he kept his ear's open for the call to start the clock.
