Yeah, it's pretty cool. I'll take this class and DL a dictionary, and maybe use it in a Gaian language thread. |

OK, Hr. Majkelson - but remember, there's no TH in Gaian, so it would be spelt Mees, Meez, oder Meet.
By the way, 'to like' is gilen.

OK, nuna ese Tid for vis tria Klas! I would wait a little longer, but I think the students who haven't answered yet have probably fallen asleep somewhere.
Today will be a short class. I just wanted to give you some basic words which you'll be using on the in-class activities we'll have later. I'm currently working on finishing an official dictionary which will be made available on the SA website.
If you're only going to use Gaian for writing, then you really don't have to memorize any words since the dictionary and Easy Sheets will have it all for easy reference.
However, I do recommend you try to remember these words since they are so common:
I Ig Me Mig My Min We, us Vi You Du You all Dur He, him Han She, her Zi They Dee Them Deem It, One Dor
And these
Yes Je or Jej No Ne or Nej Maybe Velekta
The De A/an En And Ent But Men Or Oder This/these Dix That/those Dax
Every lesson when it comes time to practice, I'll give you the words you'll need. Until I give you a dictionary, feel free to ask me for any word if you want to be a teacher's pet and start writing things on your own.
OK, lastly, I want to give you some basic phrases in Gaian - the polite and formal way of speaking, and the Gaigo version, if there is one, for the familiar and common. I think it's also important to give you some family names so we can start to talk about our families.
I'm still working on editing a nice basic phrasebook which will also be made available sometime soon (I hope!).
Hello Gaian: Hallo or Hej! Gaigo: Jo (also can be written Yo) or Osu!
How are you? Gaian: Hur ese du? or Hur es? Gaigo: Dou? or Genki?
I'm good Gaian: Ig ese gud(a). or simply, Gud. Gaigo: Genki (da).
I am from... Gaian: Ig komte van... Gaigo: Van ... kuruta
You should know that in Gaian Gaia is Gaia (or Gaja), America is Amerika. You can learn the other country names when you get your dictionary. As for States, that is up to you to decide how to spell and pronounce. California, for example, might be spelt Kalifornja or Kalifornia.
Thank you Gaian: Danke du or Dank Gaigo: Domo
Thank you very much! Gaian: Denten dankar! Gaigo: Domo domo!
You're welcome Gaian: Gudvil (same as 'please') Gaigo: Iie (same as 'no').
OK, now for family member names - I'll give you the basic Gaian family terms now. The ones for Gaigo are actually a little more complicated as they are in Japanese - for example while Gaian only has one word for brother or sister, Gaigo have two depending on whether they are older or younger.
Family Famil Father Fader Mother Mader Parent Elder Child Kind (children: Kindar). Son Son Daughter Doxter Brother Bruder Sister Sister
Uncle Faderbruder or Maderbruder Aunt Fadersister or Madersister Cousin Kusin
Grandfather Faderfader or Maderfader
Ok, let's stop there for a second. Given what I've just said, how do you think you say the following family terms in Gaian?
Hr. Failson, hur sagen "Grandmother" ja Gaian?
Frulin Ajagi, hur sagen "Grandchild" ja Gaian?
Hr. Lit Dor! Ig komte van var?
Frulin Kristafdoxter! Dus Fader, Kristaf, komte van var?
Frulin Aneko! Hur ese dus Fader ent Mader?
Now, all of you - Dur komte van var? Va Amerikas State?
Please be sure to give me complete Gaian sentences!

Sensei, if "Hur ese du?" is "How are you?", then how do you say something more informal like "What's up?" ?
BTW, this is now Joe's favorite language, Jo is a word. ^_^

Yes - Jo is a word (remember it is pronounced Yo like it is in English). The real meaning of What's up would be Hur es? although most kids our age would use the Gaigo style and just say Osu or Genki ne? If you really wanted to know what was happening you could say, <Va ese hapen?> or <Va hapen?> Meanwhile <Va es doen?> would be 'What are you doing?'.
Now, be sure to finish the assignment I just gave you: Dur komte van var? Va Amerikas State?

"Grandchild" ja Gaian ese Faderfaderkind oder Maderfaderkind, oder Fadermaderkind oder Madermader kind? *shrug* Kazu got the easy one>< In German, 'grandchild' (enkelkind) is a completely different word then 'grandmother' (grossmutter) and 'grandfather' (grossvater). Since Gaian is very similar to German, I am guessing the same will apply here...therefore, I am taking a wild shot at this^^'
Hallo, Ig Komte von Ohjo. Ohjo ese 'boring'....but only sometimes^^

Ohjo ese 'boring'.... but only sometimes^^ Danke du, Fln Ajagi. Ja Gaian, Grandchild would be Sonkind or Doxterkind, or to be more specific Sonson, Doxterson, Sondoxter or Doxterdoxter - since it is your Son's Child, not your mother's father's kid. Ohio sounds more like Ohajo to me. I'm sorry you think Ohajo ese langvela.

You're all doing very well. I can't wait until we are finished and can start a all-Gaian post. I'm sort of hoping you all go crazy with it, start doing manga comics, poems, and stuff in it. . .maybe I'm a little obsessed rofl
Still waiting for a couple people to answer back, and then we'll move on.
