I like J.K Rowling.
*obvious* because i'm obsessed about Harry Potter stare

Great....Yet another person who is fond of him....What I don't understand, is why religious leaders and whatnot are going after a little immature boy who waves around sticks, chanting a word that feels gimmicky. What's with all this "Why did this character have to die?" questions? Seriously. If you want real magic, go read Dragonlance or some other series by TSR Hobbies (Or is it TSR Inc. now?). The deaths of main characters actually hurt you....And if it came down to it, Raistlin Majere could destroy Harry Potter twisted I feel like a storm is coming....I better get down in my bunker so I can wait for the hate-mail to stop.

Woohoo, Tell it brother. I have a feeling that ole' Harry Potter would faint at the sight of Rastlin...

Hmmm, (I don't know why I am hmmm'ing, it's pretty clear to me). The best author, in my opinion has to be George R. R. Martin. His books are like to explode in your face with intrigue and ingenuity. Best of all, there is no main character, only your favorites, (YAY Tyrion and Petyr). No 'good guys' or 'bad guys' (Cept Joffery), and anything you read is well within the limits of 'The Eye of the Beholder.' So... If you are into high-end fantasy for adult readers only, (Not just the depth, there is also quite a bit of profanity), then you must read him...

But for posterity's sake I'll list my top 5:

5). Eldon Thompson
4). Douglass Adams (Cause I need a good laugh every now and then razz )
3). Jennifer Fallon
2). Robin Hobb (Can't believe no one mentioned her)
1). George R. R. Martin (Or him)

Normally I don't look at authors. Sometimes they have a great book, and others it's a flop. I love the books, not who wrote them.

But, for the sake of curiosity and intrigue, I might go look for a book by this George R. R. Martin. Robin Hobb I already know, Leavaros mentions her about a million times. wink

How adult are they though? Profanity is horribly immature in my opinion...So that was a mark down. What makes his writing anything other than something that looks deep on the surface, but only really about ankle high?

Oy vey... Where to begin... Firstoff, the profanity isn't used to just be profanity within the bounds of this book. As you may well know, it's pretty common in our culture today (Mostly), and he uses it to bring the characters to life, (I know it seems pretty lame to look at it this way), but it makes his characters more dynamic. Annnd, it's not every other word, it's more like one or two every so often... No pattern that I can determine...

Well, the depth is all in the eye of the beholder as I previously stated, but if you like intrigue and authors who can somehow juggle many veiw-points and still make a book readable, not to mention the twists the catch me even the second time around, then he is for you. But as for a recomendation start with 'A Game of Thrones.' It is book one of probably seven. He has four out and five is coming early next year. Yeesh, look at me rambling again.

But back to the books in themselves, real people do real things, petty as they may seem when read. That does not make them any less readable, I just ask that you go into the book with an open mind - because to do so will suck you in like myself. The challenge I make to you, though, is to try and catch the details he leaves unsaid. I challenge you to guess who dies and who lives, and who survives when the winter is over to claim the Iron Throne.

I almost felt like the back of a book... Speaking of which... Just ask and I'll post it here, with all due copyrights attached.

basicly it the key way to know if i really like an author is if i bother to remember their names.
jane m. auel (the last name looks off)
jim butcher, i just started to devour his books i love the cursor series
robert jordan, i have only read one series of his the wheel of time, i have read it 8 times now
garth nix
and christopher paloni. those are the only names i remeber and since the release of the movie christopher has fallen in my eyes so i'll probably forget his name soon

I don't blame the authors for what the movie people do to there books. Most of the time they don't even have a say so on how it's made.

Alrighty then! *cracks knuckles* Here we go:

1. Dan Brown (I love "Angels and Demons" )
2 Kelley Armstrong (I am currently reading "Bitten" and already I am hooked on her writing style! ^_^ )
3. J.K. Rowling (It's nice to have good-ole fantasy with plot twists and stuff in there. I don't care what others say I like them. And the whole people dieing thing? It's a war....people die.......end of story......she kills off Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, or Lupin though and I'm gonna jump her! *pets Lupin* )
4. Tamora Pierce (She's awesome....nuff said. XD )
5. Betty Cavana (Way old school but still an awesome author.)
6. Jim Butcher (I adore the "Harry Dresden Files" )
7. Terry Pratchett (That man is an absolute GENIUS at comedic fantasy. XD )
8. Peter Dickinson (His book "The Ropemaker" is superb! )

And there are many others I'm sure but.....I can't remember them all. sweatdrop
