Of course not. He simply does what he sees necessary. He has compassion and all of those other emotions however he tries to suppress them. Having Ren around seems to bring it out of him because in a sesne she makes him happy.

I do believe that Rin was not the real reason why Sesshoumaru is growing softer. I do believe that the demon lord isn't all that bad. He always has that softer side in him but because he wanted to be stronger, he chose to suppress it, like what Demon_Bikou_Gyoku and Cassius Black said. But then, Rin came, a human much different from others. Different in the sense that she wasn't afraid of him and that she is kind to him. And from what I had observed, Rin is kind to Sesshoumaru for no special reason at all. It would be so easy for Rin to be kind to him even if it so happened that he didn't save her and they meet again some other day. That's Rin's nature. It would be so easy to grow a soft spot for the little girl.
(Sorry, it might be confusing, my mind's still a bit disorganized... redface )

I think so espcially in the movie 3, where a very young and smexy sess was asked my his father "do you have someone to protect"~chilling words in my opinion

Yes, I believe that Sesshomaru has a soft spot for certain humans. Rin is the one person who helped create the feelings Sesshomaru has for humans. She was so kind to him when he was injured. And I believe that he is developing feelings for everyone because he has not killed Jaken, Inuyasha or anyone for that matter
