Nuala Gwen This proves it folks. Shadow just isn't cool anymore. And the main reason for my aggravation is not Shadow getting milked to death, but rather the fear of what this might mean for Sonic's next game. If they put a gun in Sonic's hand then that's it, I'm quitting the series for good. *unable to download the movie due to crappy connection* I wouldn't leave the fandom altogether; but it'd probably mark the end of my interest in the games, too. At the very least, outside of the current standard of the Advance series, which seems to be the only set of titles that still remembers the raw platform playability and comparatively decent coding that Sonic used to be about. (Since when was "anime" a video game genre, anyway? That's just buying straight into the usual Western assumption that the only things to Japanese animation in the first place're big eyes, giant robots and bang-bangs.) If I wanted a shoot-'em-up, I'd buy one. Sonic's... well... Sonic. I might not've had to like putting Tails in a mech in SA2, but at least putting the resident tech whizz in a mech is vaguely in character. This has all of the in-character-ness of Cream's Bad Fur Day. Sonic or Shadow packing a piece just has no realistic justification. It's just not how either of them operates. They're walking projectiles themselves and can outrun freakin' bullets. They don't need guns. It makes no sense. If this is a cheap sop to the "But we're "mature" teenage fans, so we want R-rated Sonic games with gore, cussing and Amy getting her boobies out!" brigade, then Sega've lost my respect once and for all. Couldn't of put it better myself. surprised

Nuala Xagarath Ankor (Glares at it) Load... No good, useless dial-up can't handle it. I'll try again from the library... Any luck? Nope, library has never liked downloading movie files. Oh, yeah, still never recieved a reply to my original email, though that's weeks-old by now. If you're having trouble emailing, I could always ring you instead, if you'd prefer. smile

]Gwen[ They just couldn't let Shadow have his one ounce of dignity left. "But it worked for Jak II!!!" Yes, but Jak never had the ability to run faster than a ******** bullet, and at least Jak was supposed to have his silliness value. This proves it folks. Shadow just isn't cool anymore. And the main reason for my aggravation is not Shadow getting milked to death, but rather the fear of what this might mean for Sonic's next game. If they put a gun in Sonic's hand then that's it, I'm quitting the series for good. Why would you quit the series? This is the 21st Century where all gamers care about is more and more violence. Sonic having a gun would sell big whether fans buy it or not.

shadowrouge21 Why would you quit the series? This is the 21st Century where all gamers care about is more and more violence. Sonic having a gun would sell big whether fans buy it or not. Like I said: this game seems to appeal to people who either just haven't grasped that it's them who've changed rather than the series' target demographic, or who thought that Conker's BFD was a good game just for what it did to a previously kid-friendly character. Not all gamers only want more extremes, as this discussion's proving - it's just a pity that a major franchise like Sonic is finally selling out like this. I think that this cartoon says it all. Just substitute Sonic for the franchise already there. sad

I must be one of the few people in the solar system who wasn't immediately appalled when news of this game came out. Skeptical, yes. Worried that it was pandering to the Emo Crowd and/or violence = better crowd, yes. But now I'm less skeptical. The fact that Shadow doesn't even HAVE to pick up a gun in the first place-- you can just do it like it always has been, a Spin Attack-- has helped this immensely. Really, the only reason I would object to weapons being weilded by Shadow would be the Pander Factor. If Shadow simply needs the extra firepower then fine. Considering he runs so fast, his own velocity can add to the power of the weapons he holds. If it's just because "OMG GUNS R COOL" then yeah, not pleased with that. But like I said; don't have to use weapons, so Sonic Team or Sega or WHOEVER thought up the whole concept has, evidently, thought of that. Really the only thing I think is stupid is the inclusion of aliens. Aliens... just makes everything cheesy. Really, really cheesy. I just hope that they pose enough of a threat that they justify Shadow needing weapons (to increase his damage potential) and vehicles (for extra protection, not speed, I mean come on). Of course, should SONIC weild a gun, I will be all up against that, because guns just aren't Sonic's style. To be honest, I hope that in the course of the game that Shadow actually realizes that he doesn't need weapons to win, even if they make things easier. But we'll see. Nuala I think that this cartoon says it all. Just substitute Sonic for the franchise already there. sad ... I hope that you don't think that all of us who haven't balked at Shadow's new game are bloodthirsty freaks. I DO understand why people would object to the direction the Shadow game is taking, I really do, but I'm just a bit insulted at what I believe you're insinuating. And I of course, could be wrong and I apologize for taking offense, but I hope you understand where I'm coming from with that. ...Then again, I did enjoy Sonic Heroes (certainly wouldn't say it was even in my top five, but I did like it) so maybe I just have bad taste. Or I just love the Sonic series so much that it clouds my judgment. But either way, I'm anticipating the new Shadow game.

Or if it is, where it fits in. Nuala *bows* I understand completely. I hoped that the exaggeration would be taken in the spirit that it was intended, but I'm sorry if you feel that I overstepped the mark. Unfortunately, I have seen people discuss the Sonic franchise like that in all seriousness. sad Heh, I believe you. There's probably at least a small group like that in every fandom, what's more depressing. Clearly they have the problem of not being able to distinguish between "kid friendly" and "childish". I weep for these people. And don't feel bad, I wondered if I was being oversensitive. It seems so. xp Nuala I'm still curious - I'm just not sure how much of the anticipation is altogether pleasant. The CGI does look pretty good, though for some reason there's something wierd that I see about it...can't put my finger on it, though o_o;
I still don't feel fond of the scene of the crap-beaten-out-of Sonic ("Somebody run a Shield and some rings, STAT!!"); made it really seem like Shadow was...well, overshadowing him (no pun intended) as the new hero. I mean, I guess it's more of a scenario of "Allow me to finish this!"....Guess that could work, considering Shadow is supposed to run into Sonic and co. at some point in the game....
The gameplay itself looks freakin' awesome though...I can't wait to run around those levels, and it all brings sweet, sweet memories of the first Sonic Adventure.

Sonic--The--Hedgehog actualy, its said that thoughout the game shadow has some visions into the future Where did you read that? It wouldn't surprise me, though. He's already taken over from Sonic as tough guy and Knux as brooding-rebel-without-a-clue. Why not give him Amy's psychic abilities, as well? rolleyes

it looks like such an awsome game i don't understand, i like games if there's killing and who doesn't? its like you wouldn't care if the series died you'd still want it for the sake of saying "look at me i have all the sonic games" or "look at me i've got the most merchandise" so if it sucks who cares, its part of the seiries and you want it if you want a full collection.
