Journal Entry:
It seems that we are to have a Masquerade. This is a lovely chance for me to get my mind off of things with Alcie. Sissy and I have spent a good deal of time looking through various books trying to decide what to wear. She will be accompanying me for only a short while-- she can only leave Lady Sun alone with the children for so long, and I have assured her that I will be fine by myself.
I found the most lovely dress. I won't mention what it looks like here, because it is to be a big surprise..I have such plans! I hope to go the entire night with none knowing who I am. Perhaps that will help me, as I have been feeling the class difference terribly lately.
Sissy (As I think that I shall always refer to Shiaree as such despite my understanding of our relationship now) has a most beautiful gown designed for herself. She managed somehow to convince one of her fellow moon elves from the village (which she has told me about many times, and which saddens me each time she mentions it) to make our dresses for us. They will be lovely indeed, with moon elf fabrics..

Journal Entry:
The Masquerade ball went rather well, at first. I was not quite as shy, because I knew that none could tell who I was. Still, I was a bit uncomfortable. Sissy sat with me for a while, to help me with my confidence issues.
It was difficult, though, seeing Alcie. There are so many things I wanted to talk to him about, and yet I could not even go over him until things got...scary.
The Moon Court somehow managed to get into the Ball. Not only that, but apparently they took someone (though I've no idea who) with them. How easy, then, would it be for any of them to simply sneak into the castle and take off with one of us? Perhaps I should request a room in the castle proper...but then, I would be leaving my dear charges to fend for themselves.
I think that I could not do such a thing.
There is much yet left for me to accomplish this day. I will speak again at a later point.

Sitting near the side of the rope ladder, a bit out of the way so it wouldn't accidently be stepped on, was a little figurine of two mice hugging. Next to it was a note:
Dear Muris-
Happy late Valentines Day. Lady Xannyia informed me of this holiday they celebrate and decided it would be nice to get you a gift. When I saw this little figurine I knew that was the right one. I hope you liked it. -Love, Alces

Journal Entry:
Muris will not be posting for a short time. She has not yet recovered from her time in the Dungeons of Castellum Umbra. I must say that I am very angry about what happened to my dear fey. From what I gather, she was tortured in more ways than one.
I have tried to assure her that Alces is indeed alive, but she seems less than accepting of this idea. I had known she was grown quite close to him, but I had not realized just how close they had become.
I shall have to set out to locate the dear elk soon, or I am afraid that it will make this healing only more difficult, especially when she comes to terms with his death only to find that he is still alive.

Journal Entry:
I think..that I am all right now. I have heard that Alces is not dead, but that he has taken to himself for some time. I am glad, at least, that he is well. I do not know where he is, nor does anyone else seem to. Still, he is indeed safe, and that is all that matters to me.
King Cervus dropped off a gift for me. I was quite taken aback, as I and the others have not seen him in quite some time either. I wonder if perhaps it was his kithain instead of he that sent it, and she put his name on it only for his sake, as I'm sure she must have known he would want to get gifts for those of his court.
I think that I shall head down to the stables and take Alucina out for a ride. It will be quite refreshing, and I'm sure that she could use the exercise. I have been more neglectful of late than I would have like to have been.

She swung the sword about in semi-graceful arcs over the grass...just barely missing her own head. Yes, she'd need quite a bit more practice before she really got the hang of this whole fighting thing. Still, it was something. She felt a little better now that it seemed she'd be able to defend herself against those who had harmed her and frightened her so much.
Well, she did always have the bow. She'd been practicing that for a while now, and had some talent with it. She set the sword back at her side, pulling out instead the bow she had been using for practice purposes. She was in the wrong section of the yard for bow and arrow practice, but it didn't really matter. She could find the arrow easily enough even so.
She ran her fingers over the sturdy wood. This had been the first one that had turned out so well, and she was rather proud of it. Her other projects were not quite so advanced, but she was working on them. Most of her blacksmithing abilities had improved a hundredfold when she had acquired the masterwork tools of the trade.
Gently, she pulled the string back, fitting an arrow to it. The arrows could definitely use some work, but first she must find a bird whose feathers suited her needs properly. Perhaps she could talk with Ardea-- he knew a lot about something very close to everything. Maybe he would know which sort of feathers would help an arrow fly best.
Loosing the arrow, she watched it soar high through the air. A graceful arc, but not what she would have hoped. It went far...too far, in fact, and she saw it burying itself into the forest. Sighing, she trotted after it. She had not quite located a steady source of wood that she was certain would not inhibit the wildlife any, and so tended to save her arrows as much as possible in order to preserve what she already had.
She'd have to ask the King about acquiring some wooden blocks with which to practice. She already had metal for her forging from the horses' need for shoes, but wood was not so plentiful.
A few prickly branches scraped at her arms, but she ignored them. She knew they were not poisonous, as she'd been scraped by them many times before in her forays to help some injured animal or the other.
A flash of fur caught her eye, and she forgot the arrow. The fur became a bit more of an apparent figure quickly, and she just about kept running. A badger, of all things, and he was caught in a trap of some sort. Badgers had naturally unpleasant dispositions, and she was inclined to believe that one trapped would probably not be any more pleasant than one free. Perhaps less pleasant, at that.
She approached the badger carefully, watching it for signs of anything else. There could be other traps, of course, and there could be other injuries, or even poison of some sort in the badger's system. He was thrashing about a bit, but seemed to quiet just a little when she came nearer.
"Shhhh..." she said softly, reaching out with whatever power was imbued in her to work with the animal. "It's okay...I'll help you out of here.."
She knew that she had some small gift with creatures, but a badger..well, was still a badger. He glared rather angrily at her, but didn't move around quite so much, and she crept closer still, "I wonder how you got yourself so tangled up in that trap? Didn't you see it? I suppose not, if you're stuck. Silly question for me to ask."
Somehow, she felt easier talking to animals than to people.
He seemed quite angry, and moved about in an unhappy fashion, but did not try to injure her as she went about removing the trap from his leg. Just as she managed to free him, stormclouds gathered in the sky, and she sighed.
Of course, it would choose just now to rain.
"Well, if you'll come with me," she said, though she was vaguely aware of the idiocy of talking to an animal, "I'll be happy to try to mend your wound. If I can't do it, I'm sure I could talk with Ursa and see what she recommends."
The badger seemed generally nonplussed, but willing enough to follow her. Assuming he was indeed agreeing to come along and be treated, she headed back towards the stables, forgetting all about her arrow.

Journal Entry:
I must say, I certainly feel a lot better now that I've come out of hiding, so to speak. I still wish that my dear Alcie would return, but, I have found things to occupy myself in the meantime.
I saw Filix in the stables the other day. She and I caught up on a few things (for instance, I had not known that she and Aesculus were courting!) and we taught each other a few things. She helped me to begin learning some swordwork, and I helped her with the bow.
I am more concerned, however, with beginning to work weapons on horseback. I think that this will be my greatest advantage come any battle with the Moon Court. I am gifted, many say, with horses, and I do love them. I think that Alucina would serve me well in a battle situation, should I need her.
On another note, as I was practicing my bow the other day, I came across a strange sight-- a badger caught in a trap. I rescued him, with no small amount of grumbling on his part. He seems fond of me, however, in his grouchy way, and did at least follow me back to my home. I dressed his wounds as best as I could, but I should like to have Ursa take a closer look at them. Afterall, she is far more gifted in medicine than I.

PS: Alcie, please return to me soon...
