Kayne tore his eyes away from the arrow as she started to speak. Eight years? Now he was impressed. She must be truly dedicated, he thought and her earlier quote rolled through his mind again. But before he could think on it she offered them a seat and an explanation.
"About time," he muttered, the words slipping out before he could stop them as he sat down, pulling his knees up to his chest. Instantly his cheeks started to burn and he glanced up to see if she heard him.

Ra sat on the floor also thinking about what she had just said. Eight years that was definite dedication. He thought of the years he had spent studying languages like Arabic and English, not quite the same but he knew what it took to stick to something that was difficult.
He smirked at Kayne's comment and looked up at him. It looked like he was begining to think about the words that came out of his mouth.

Grabbing the large teapot and three cups from a cupboard, Jess caught Kayne's comment. She expected nothing less and let out a laugh. Whereas before she had been in teacher mode, in the dojo she felt much more comfortable, and being honest afterall meant being herself. Not sensei or Ms Montecelli but Jess.
"You know Shaidey, you are going to have to keep a lid on your impatient attitude. It's hard, believe me, I know." She smirked folding her arms and leaning against the table. "I have the blood of the Celts too." She laughed again strengthening her already strong Welsh accent for effect. Her eyes turned to the dark haired boy and she softened her smirk. "And you Kusani, I want to hear you speak up more, you're far to quiet for my liking. It just won't do."
She looked out at the targets for a moment and then back to the boys. "The reason I have put you in this position is not really to punish you. I don't think you need punishment. I've looked at your records, and spoken to your teachers. You are not bad guys, you just need to learn a bit of responsibility and discipline. I could have given you essays and cleaning duty but to be frank I think it's all bollocks. It doesn't help. A lot of responsibility comes with the positions I have given you, that and respect. You are like the big brothers of the club. You will learn to respect those below you and they in turn will learn to respect you. Does that make any sense?"

Kayne relaxed when she laughed at his slip up. He listened as she addressed him, smiling as her accent thickened. It was the first time he had truly noticed it. Sure on some level he had recognized the Celtic intonation, but he had been too put out before to really take note of it. Slowly he could feel the muscles in his neck and shoulders unwind even more. As she addressed Ra he turned his head to look at him and gave him a small smirk in agreement with Jess. When she continued on to give her explanation he turned his eyes back to hers.
"It does," he nodded. He could be a big brother. That seemed easy enough. "I just don't understand how we're supposed to help these kids with archery when Ra and I seriously have never even touched a bow before. How are we supposed to help them when we'll be on the same page as them?" he asked glancing over at Ra and then back at her.

Ra looked up as she addressed her and blushed a little. "I didn't think anything needed to be said." He muttered catching Kayne's smirk. He gave a small smile back and listened to kayne speak. "I agree." He said in a bold moment. "I don't see how we can help them if we know nothing. It makes no sense." He flushed a little more at his speaking up and looked back down at the floor.

Making the tea Jess listened to both of them with interest, she had guessed they might bring the problem of experience up. "Kusani, I am always eager to hear people's opinions. Never be afraid to tell me what you think, about anything." Picking up the three mugs she crossed the dojo to join them, easing herself onto the floor.
"To be honest there is no one with more experience. This club seems to have faded into nothing." She said slightly irritably. "And you are not supposed to help them that way, that's my job." Picking up one of the mugh she sat cross legged and held it in both her hands. "It is your jobs to lead, set and example. Look after your fellow members. As Club leaders and part of your training you will both report here every morning at six. We will do one hour of Tai Chi, followed by an hour of training with the bow. The same goes for after school." She shrugged and took a sip of the tea despite it being extremely hot. "You will advance slightly faster than them and then be able to help me. O.k, any other questions about archery or anything else?"

Kayne turned his head back to Ra with an encouraging nod. She was right, he really needed to work on speaking up. Sliding his legs down to sit cross legged, he leaned forward to slide one of the mugs closer to him as he listened to her. He made a mental note that he would have to get up a little earlier to do his morning jog before his new archery responsibilities. At her open invitation his lips curled into a smirk. She had said anything.
"How the hell did someone like you manage to get a job at a school like this?" he asked, wiping the smirk off of his face.

Ra listened as he had been. Six am wasn't a problem when his medication was working o.k. When it was messing about however, he wouldn't be able to be consistant. He shrugged inwardly, taking the mug in his hand. Maybe the Tai Chi stuff would help a bit.
He had been about to ask her about her tattoo when Kayne asked his question. The sheer bluntness off it made his eyes widen and his glance flit to the green eyed woman.

Jess smirked again at his question, taking the time to blow lightly on her tea. She liked this kid. He amused her and confirmed her decision. The two of them were the perfect compliment in personality. Kusani quiet and reserved and Shaidey cheeky and not afraid to say what was on his mind. "Well, that's a question i might be able to answer better if I knew exactly what defines 'a person like me' and 'a school like this.'" She gave gave a glance to Mr silence. "And you can stop looking at me like that Kusani." She smirked. "I know you were thinking it too."

Kayne sighed and picked up his mug to blow gently on the hot liquid. She knew exactly what he meant. He laughed lightly at her response to Ra's shocked expression as he took a small sip. He savored the taste for a moment before swallowing to answer her.
"You know what I mean. The tattoo, the attitude... the willingness to put up with a bullshitter like me. I have yet to run into another teacher here like you. Right Ra?" he asked the other boy, nudging him gently with his elbow. "I mean... everyone else is so uptight around here. You'd think their heads were going to explode if everything doesn't go just right."

Ra took a sip of his tea and nodded. "Yeah, he's right. All the other teachers drive me insane, needing a reason for everything. All they care about is essays and grades. How did you manage to slip through the net?"

Jess shrugged and rested her elbows on her knees. "Maybe I'm twice the bull shitter you are." She said a grin pulling at the corner of her lips. "Maybe they were desperate for a lit and archery teacher. Who knows." She gave a sigh and finished her tea. "All I do know is I'm here and although I do feel extremely out of place I like it. Now when you two are done with your tea you can go and do whatever it is you do for fun round here. I'll see you same time tomorrow and if you ever want to talk about anything my door is always open and judgement free."

Kayne smiled at her extrememly honest answer. He liked her and he knew that from this point forward he try his damnedest to earn her repect as she had already earned his. He nodded to acknowledge her offer of an open door. He finished off his tea and rose to his feet to go and wash out his mug. He set it off to the side to dry and turned to face Ra.

Ra also nodded though he wouldn't be taking her up on the offer. He could barely talk about those closest to him about his problems. Let alone another stranger. "Thank you." He said quietly, out of politeness as he too washed and dried his mug. Turning to Kayne he smiled lightly. "Don't suppose you want to go and get an early lunch with me?" He asked. "All that information made me hungry."

"Yeah.... I have to agree with you on that one Kusani. She's just like my sister. Talks a lot of non-sense and expects you to be paying attention all the time," Kayne said with a smile and a wink at Jess as he and Ra made their way out of the dojo. "All that talk works up a man's appetite. So you wanna head to the cafeteria or do you have a better place in mind. I promise I won't punch you this time," he said giving Ra a smirk.
