One can make do without one. I really didn't have one when I started, or at least it was barely anything at all. Even with your living sittuation you could probably have a little bit of something so long as it looks inconpicuous. =P

Dennelle and I found a trunk at a yard sale, made of wood, leather, and brass, about the size of a footlocker (roughly 18" wide, 2 ft high, and 4 ft wide). We keep our items inside of it, from oils, crystals, candles, and incense to reference books, notes, and the like. When we do a working, we cover the top of it with a cloth and use that as an altar. When we're done, everything goes right back inside. It's also portable, able to fit in the trunk of even a small car. In a pinch, it could even be carried by two people.

I'm actually thinking about putting a temp one up, with a white tea light and some incense in honor of my dead friend. It would bring closure for me and It will honor her life.

I finally figured out how to make the surface of my altar bigger yay. I have a candle and incense on it which I try to light everyday.

Soon, I'll be able to set mine up again. I need to start looking into house blessings and charms. I'm going to be moving into a house that might have some ghostie and negitivity problems.

crying
I miss my old altar. Relocated again recently and now the space I have is so... small. And I can't sit right in front of it. Oiy, I'm going to have to keep an eye out for a good altar table to buy that's only at most 2 feet high or so. I'd rather make it myself, but I don't own the powertools to do it. Grr.

I'm pretty satisfied with mine for the moment, but I SOOOO freaking need my own room before I'm completely happy with my space.
