Kamiss fell from the smoke, eyes closed. His swords fell beside him, keeping by his side. Kamiss' eyes snapped open, and he thrust his hands toward the ground. His fingers were a mere 2 inches from it as he hung in midair. A split second after he stopped dust and black smoke billowed out from the ground near him in a shockwave. It didn't affect Lyra, but the hound and demon were thrown against the wall. The exposed I am to the darkness, the more like it I become... Kamiss leapt towards the hound, slaughtering it with one quick move. He removed it's head and turned towards the demon, but it was already moving towards Lyra. He threw the head to her. "CLAMP THE TEETH ON ITS ARM!" He shouted.

Lyra nodded as she caught the hound's head, and resisted the urge to drop it. She pried open the jaws, then slammed them down the second the other demon reached out for her. The teeth went clear through the black cloud-flech, and the demon howled, a tortured sound that hurt her ears. She dropped to the ground, covering her ears, as the demon staggered backwards, still screaming.

Kamiss leapt over, beheaded it, threw it's body against the wall, and a blaze of energy flew from his hand, enveloping and dissolving it. Kamiss made sure nothign was left throguh which it could come back. "Are you ok?" kamiss asked, genuinly concerned.

Lyra slowly nodded, and clambered to her feet, still a little unsteady. "Yes, but damn it...I'm not used to this. I don't know what to do here. Why was I chosen to live when I'm just a burden to you?" She fell against a shattered wall, mumbling to herself angrily.

Kamiss didn't answer. He knew she wasn't a burden, but he didn't know what to say. Then it struck him. "Back when I told you to run, I was hard pressed. If it wasn't for you, I'd be dead already. I... I think you'll start getting your powers soon, I just have been.... evolving faster. You are not dead weight. And if anything, I'll try and keep you from becoming just that. But we're in this together. And who knows, maybe more will join our cause. My brother..." Kamiss stopped. Instead of continuing he just said, "Guess what. I was in the army. My reflexes are already pretty honed." He started walking, and had he a tail, it would have been drooping. "Let's go." He said quietly.

Lyra smiled, a little tiny ray of light in a lost day. She ran up beside Kamiss, grabbed his hand, and asked, "Which way this time?"

Feeling her hand in his, Kamiss looked at her, smiling too. "This way." He said, and jumped. He was careful not to yank her arm out of it's socket, and she rose with him. He landed on a building, and stayed still for a second, letting her catch her breath and grinning.

Lyra's smile widened when the lifted off the ground, and as the set down on the roof, she was practically laughing. She remembered now that when she was a child, she had always thought she could fly, but thgouh she'd jumped off numerous fences, she'd never risen. She took a deep breath, somehow knowing that this time she could do it. She slipped her hand from kamiss', with a reasurring glance, and stepped off the roof.

Kamiss' eyes followed her, legs tensing to jump. He did, and soon he was beside her, ready to catch her. But somehow he knew he wouldn't have to.

('Be part of Kamiss." I'm loving these...)
Lyra whirled, spinning gracefully, like a leaf, she grabbed Kamiss by the hand again, and smiled up into his eyes. Even floating in the air, she was shorter than him. "Do you think it will be easier to find a place to stay, now that we don't have to worry about tripping as we run?" Her voice had musical tone to it now, and though blood still dried on her face and clothes, her eyes sparkled.

(I had Kamiss for President and jsut now, Kamiss, the original.)
Kamiss smiled back. "Yeah. We can find the highest point. Even if the demons find us there, they'll have a hard time. I bet there would be wreckage blocking their way. And we can just jump off; they can't." Realizing he was talking staregy and military again, and it had been such a simple question, Kamiss smiled again. "The highest point." He let go of Lyra's hand, falling. He landed, legs coiled, and immediatly sprung back up. "Catch me if you can." On top of the building, he immediatly found the highest point possible.
The military's old center.

Lyra followed him, trying hard not to giggle as as the image of a squirrel with a spear in it's paw hopping from branch to branch entered him mind. She landed on air, floating next to Kamiss. Holding her palm above her eyes to shield them from the light, she scanned the area, talking in breath as she caught a glimpse of where they had been fighting.

What a world. He thought, looking down on the destruction. Kamiss sighed. One could mistake it for a defeated sigh, but to Kamiss it was a sound that admitted he didn't like the way things were going, and they were horrible. It also meant he was going to get back into the fray, give a damn good fight and not give up. "I wonder what happened to my armor." Kamiss said, startling himself. "My brother... he was in trouble with a dmeon. I went to help him, but the demon snapped his spine." He had to stop from throwing up as he said the words. "I was coming to help. Forgetting all about my guns, I used the laser swords in the armor we soldiers wore and cut the demon apart. There was an explosion of dark tentacles, picking me and Zero's corpse up and hurtling us against walls. It covered us like we were in cocoons. When I came out, Zero's cocoon was gone. And so was my armor. We could use my armor." Kamiss said. He had started out wondering where his armor went and was now reliving the experience of seeing his brothers body snapped in half. What a world. He thought. What a world.

Lyra stared at him in horror, terrified at what he had been forced to go through. She grasped his hand again, which now shook the tiniest bit, for her own comfort as much as his. "It is...a terrible world we live in...but it has been terrible...for much longer then we knew. This is just the last stone in the chain, the last tumbler to fall into place. And I think we are the only ones left to fight. So we have to stay strong, okay?" Her voice quavered a little, but she kept her eyes on his.

Kamiss nodded, and grimaced as if in pain. For a split second, his skin seemed to get thicker and harder, but the moment passed. He gasped. "What the-- what just happened?" He asked, and let go of Lyra's hand. He fell to the ground, landing on his right knee, left hand touching the ground. Kamiss held his hand to his head and scooted against a wall, his back to it, as if expecting danger.
