Piercing_Light ugh... I really really REALLY hate to say this. I have never seen a good girl drummer (no, not even from Kittie). waaaaiiittt.t.... waaaiiiittttt aminute........ hold on........!!!! CORRECTION. I lied. I have seen a very talented woman drummer, on the Modern Drummer Festival 2005 DVD. Her name is Sheila E. She has played with "Prince, Ringo Starr, Babyface, Mariah Carey, Phil Collins, Tito Puente, Celine Dion, George Duke, Whitney Houston, Quincy Jones, Kenny Loggins, Luciano Pavarotti, Lionel Richie, Narada Michael Walden, and Stevie Wonder." (Quote from the inner pamphlet). I'm going to agree with Deb-Dub, though, because I have not seen any female drummers tearin' it up (besides the before mentioned). If you have some names, throw 'em out here. Oh! Wait!! I lied again!!! In fact my Campus Top Band director at the University of Oregon is also an EXTREMELY talented percussionist. She recently played a Frank Zappa tribute concert, doing an experimental piece on the marimba (or vibraphone, I can't remember). So that's two. Keep 'em comin. you just met a good girl drummer

it doesn't madder what gender u r... i'm tired of "girls can't do the same thinks as guys" crap, just because in the old days we were house wifes doesn't mean we can't change now. I mean come on, its the 21st century!

Not their playing, or anything like that.
The fact that some just instant assume everyone looks down on them and expects them to be a housewife or whatever instead of being able to drum.
It's not the worlds view, it's just rare to find good female drummers in bands that're famous.
There are a few out there, but none that've made it into the "seriously famous drummer" catagory.

This is not really a drumset statement, but more battery/marching percussion event:
Well, the problem with that is, all the girls...I mean ALL the girls that were in our battery section last year sucked. They were lazy, didn't care, didn't practice, weak, ect. Our instructor, a female herself got these girls kicked off the battery due to their lack of commitment.
Serriously, I doesn't matter to me personally. If a girl wants to play drums...okay. But first of all DON'T SUCK. If a girl can play, she's chill. I would think of her the way I normally would. If she suck's I'll hate her. Just as with everyone else.
I think if a girl wants to play drums, she has to be just as balsy as any guy, and should have a tomboyish attitude around her. For our drumline, we don't want timid/ weak people, but rather intimadating people. If a person can do that, whether it be a male or female, that's chill.
Don't get me wrong on my first paragraph. Guys in the battery who also sucked got cut as well. I just hate anyone with a lack of commitment, and all of the girls in drumline fell under that category. I have seen plenty of lines with females, and they were great. Our drum instructor who's a female, is just definately kickass. It's just that the majority of them do suck. So to those of you females who don't suck, and are committed...please try to spread this to other female drummers...

I agree. I once told a family friend that I was a drummer for a band, he laughed at me and offered to write the songs for us, cause ours would suck and no one would listen to it. However other people are very openminded about female drummers. I know about 2 or 3. And they alll agree that they have a hard time.
