Erik is very difficult to play...

weird... I have a really hard time playing Christine. I don't know why though. XD

My guess is the level of difficulty for one character coinsides with your own pesonality. Christine is generally a mild girl and very ladylike in some aspects. So for someone who's rough and agressive or just really vibrant in personality I could see the difficulty. You have to chuck the "what would I do" thoughts and think "what would this character do?"

Yeah. I am guilty of the "what would I do" things.

I'd have to say Meg. When I was chosen for the role of Meg in an rping thread, I watched the movie a million times o get a glimpse of her and her reactions. Even the very very small parts she was in.

Ok, time for my two cents, I suppose.

I agree, Erik is hard to play. Not that I have, however, but I see your point. Here's my thing, I can write with him as one of the characters, but not AS him, if that makes any sense. For example, my story has a character playing Erik, but he really should play Raoul. His brother plays Raoul, and...well, you get the point. Anyway, that's my comments which somehow turned totally offtopic, but nonetheless..

Sharpened Crayon

Dear Gaians,

I happen to think that Erik is fairly easy. I am not saying it is as easy as eating a cupcake, but, its not as hard as walking down three flights of stairs with a cupcake on your head. In fact to me, RPing as him is easier than others. Not to go for your concern, care, or pity in anyway but, i'm most likely closer to him characteristicly wise, than you. (not to put that in a 'omg me and erik are similar' or 'omg im better than you' way) But I do know what its like to be hated by everyone you know, and be thought of as ugly by a group of people (darn those conceited jerkwads at school-one day ill put a picture online. so you all can see that im not!) and as well as that, i DID have A boyfriend(omg srsly) and he broke up with me. February 7th, i believe. Something about because I think that my life is the saddest ever(i know peoples that are worse), 'cause I was emo(which im not) and because I was too obsessive. XP
And most likely i'll delete this post within the week so please, do not quote this, because I do not want really want people to read this.
I do notice the lack of new replys too, so most likely it wont be seen.(yay)
By the way if you want to be all frumpy and be all rawr your lying. fine.
I'll just ask you to go to visit Char112(my ex bf i menchioned) and Kurou Ichigo (one of my few friends)

Your Most Humble and Obedient Servant,
SHARPENED CRAYON

We've all had moments that can related, lightly, to Erik but no one knows how it is to be him. You may be called ugly by a few jerks (I have too) but you haven't been shunned from society.

As for the boyfriend situation, you're young and there are more people out there more worthy of your time.

Not saying you can't play him, but your post does come off as slightly conceited and dramatically emotional. You have your opinion about his role, but the couple things you mentioned kinda doesn't matter to how you play him.

Seconding Uta.

Although it may give you a hint of insight into Erik's feelings, there's really no level of comparison between general teenage angst and a lifetime of ostracization. Besides, I think EVERYONE has periods where they're unpopular and picked on and lost their omg1truluv and the whole world hates them. If you wanted to play Erik it would be helpful to tap into those feelings, but they're only a general piece of his personality and you'd still have to take them to an insane degree. Literally, because Erik is mentally ill.
Which, of course, is part of what makes him fun to play or write. xD

Yay Fox agrees with me for once. XD

Of course, the insanity is another three tiers on the cake. No one here, hopefully, is as insane or mentally unstable as Erik was. Really, you can't expect someone to stay ahold of their faculties entirely when their entire life, they'd been demeaned, loathed, feared, and thought of as an agent of Satan.

By cutting himself off from humanity almost entirely (hey, he did his own shopping) he avoided an insanitarium. Otherwise, he would have been hospitalized and probably killed.

I agree with you a lot. xD

Although I'm not so sure about the sanitarium thing... After all, he did live and work out in the normal world for something like 40 years without being institutionalized. He must have been rational enough... My guess would be that the years of living underground, cut off from human contact, and all that stress over Christine made him as crazy as he is in the course of the story.

I know, I simply love doing a happy dance when you do.

True enough. He wasn't crazy as in "hears voices telling me to kill" crazy, but I'm sure he had an air of paranoia when he went out. Not to mention the pressing silence of living underground. Then again, considering he was under an Opera House, maybe he didn't have that much silence. I'm sure the sound of rehearsals and performances were carried over the lake.

Perhaps so, Uta.

Then again, he lived five floors down...it surely couldn't have carried through four sets of floorboards.

You'd be surprised. The lake actually helped the sound carry, so I'm sure it reached that far. It's opera; Opera is loud.

True...I hadn't thought of that.

Why is it that you're always right, Utakan?
Well, smarter than me anyway...

I'm not always right, believe me. I get corrected tons of times, mostly by Fox.
