Sadiki's watched his family grow beyond his reach, only occasionally hearing whispers of an addition to this tree he's near the roots of. The branches are many, strong and ever-growing. But still, he's terribly lonely. The only child of his that ever comes to speak to him has finally found her love, her heart. And the visits decrease in number as a result.
It's alright. He wants his kin to be happy, after all.
"What about yourself, hm, old man~?" The teasing voice of the younger stallion frequently shook him from his musings. Today was no different.
Coyotl certainly lives up to his name, being a trickster in nearly every sense of the word and making Sadiki's solitary life...interesting, to say the least. There was a certain aura that followed the pawed male around, and Sadiki couldn't really decide if he enjoyed it, or found it unsettling.
Still, Coyotl hadn't caused much trouble, except to tangle his tail while he slept a few times. And somehow tinged his drinking pond pink. And replaced the sweet apples he had picked with painted onions. And....Okay, so maybe Coyotl was a bit more a of a pest than Sadiki wanted to admit. It could have been easy to declare the male a pest and a nuisance, chase him off, scar up his pretty little hide with bites and kicks...
"I'm content." Sadiki replied, shocking Coyotl into raising his head in shock.
"...Huh? He speaks? He has an answer...?" Sounding shocked at first, Coyotl quickly and smoothly slid his teasing lilt back into his words, leaning in close to the older stallion, nearly brushing muzzles. "Content, you say?" He grinned, showing his unusually sharp teeth. "Where's the fun in contentment, old man?"
"Fun enough. Y'may find it yourself one day, Coy. " Per their usual song and dance these days, Sadiki stayed still. In encounters during their early days, Sadiki would have leaned away, flinching. Being so close was near intimacy, and after losing his first mate, had found that it frightened him.
But Coyotl was persistent. Personal space was something made up after all, and those who insisted on it were so fun to rile up. Especially when it came to Sadiki, he was so...interesting.
"Maybe I will." Coyotl replied after a moment, finally leaning back to look at the setting sun. A familiar sight at this point, especially from the front of the cavern that Sadiki called his home. When had it come to be so, he wondered vaguely? Interesting...and fun. "Maybe not your brand of contentment, but maybe I'll find my own brand. All I know is it'd be weird if I can't bring you along for the ride on the way."
"...Hmf." Sadiki could only reply with a soft laugh, laying his head back down and closing his eyes. They got more tried much more easily lately.
"....Ya good?" Coyotl asked, staring down at his....friend. Friend? In slight concern "Need to head in soon? It's getting a li'l chilly."
"'m warm enough." Sadiki assured him, and to make sure his point was heard, he rolled over to lean against Coyotl slightly. "Already said it. I'm content, Coy."
He wouldn't say it yet, but as Coyotl looked down at the dozing male beside him, he almost believed that 'contentment' was an attainable thing for him. For the both of them.
Maybe one day they wouldn't be lying to themselves.

Brighid had been on a patrol, as she usually was, when Botan spotted her from across a lake. For him, it was love at first sight. He was instantly smitten and resolved in that moment to court the charming mare from across the lake for as long as it took.
And make no mistake - it wasn't a short courtship. Botan spent months courting her, bringing her a bento for lunch every day and slowly coaxing her out of her shell. It wasn't easy - Brighid had some lingering self-image issues tied to her physical resemblance to her father. But slowly she grew to trust Botan, and eventually she fell for him in turn.
After that, it was only a matter of time before they became mates and Botan joined her herd. He's still figuring out what he wants to do with his life other than be a doting mate to Brighid, but he has time to work his way through that. And a supportive mate to help him just as he once helped her.

Usually she doesn't go far, but that day Kai had felt the itch to explore something she had never seen before. Upon meeting, Erden showed her around to a few places he knew might interest her, and ever since she has always looked forward to sneaking away to see him. There always seems to be something that makes her eyes sparkle. Erden loves her free spirit and her exuberance for life. He has tried to tell her he'd be more than willing to come and hang out in the lake she lives so there is a lower chance for her to get in trouble, but he just ends up chuckling when she pouts and claims she wants the adventure.

The stallion saw something in the mare that he coveted and so he set out on winning her over, and he succeeded (though, to be honest, he didn't have to try very hard). Echo's Song had been trying to get over the feeling of having her heart broken by the first stallion she'd had started a family with and having another show keen interest in her went a long way to healing what could have been a debilitating sadness. After raising their first set of children, Dradneos made the decision to stay with Echo, and he changed from the experience. No longer was the stallion concerned only with what seemed to be his initial desires of passing on his unique markings, but his personality softened the longer he stayed at Echo's side.
Since that initial meeting and time following, a loving relationship has emerged. Echo's Song has become a mare to be cherished and cared for by Dradneos and their family lineage is a healthy one. Even the heavens seem to want their story to continue as the Stars in the night sky have blessed their union time and time again.
There is deception brewing at the edges of the family though, introduced by the eldest daughter, that the couple is trying to hold at bay with the love that is now surely evident between the pair.

He was a fierce warrior but he loved her mother more than anything. Her uncles told her that Kazu finally came out of his shell for her mother.
Luigsech had been doing a market stall selling the family apples and such with his cousins... This was when he met Vrielle. It started as a friendship and bloomed into more.
Vrielle is still looking for that one person who she can call hers but she loves Luigsech any time he can make it over to their lands or any time she can make it over to his. Though she doesn't particularly fit in his lands.
She would love to get Luigsech to commit fully to her but she knows he's fighting it. She loves him and wants him to be hers but for now she will continue to chase him and take whatever he will give her.
Luig loves seeing her and hanging out with her. He's just oblivious to her advances to think that she would actually want to commit to him. And so the cycle continues. ❤️

Goodness you all really made it hard to pick a CC. I admit to having help on narrowing it down and then it came down to what I felt would be a challenge / help me grow as a colorist.
