She wasn't sure why there was so much Thread getting through in a single space, but Nyaranau lifted her flamethrower as she spied another of the deadly tangles, and seared it as it blew near them.
Mictecath gave a small triumphant roar, decidedly in better spirits than before, even though her body might have been tense and coiled still.

Admittedly, it felt like for a brief moment there wasn't much to do - which Marty took advantage of to recheck over her flamethrower with a serious frown on her face. She didn't like doing nothing, and making sure it wouldn't jam again was at least something to take her mind off of it.
At least until Anakumath began to keen - a common noise amongst Threadfall, but Martirae couldn't help but look up into the higher ranks and frown as she tried to catch glimpses of familiar figures. Surely, not one of them, right?

Perhaps it was the darkening sky, perhaps it was the calm in which she'd taken a moment to double-check her gear in the same way any other rider would have been feeding their dragon firestone - but both Marty and Anakumath had been taken by surprise by the small sliver of Thread that singed the Gold's wing. A small blink Between would take care of both the Thread and the burning, however. It was too small to bother them for long.

This was going well - though Anakumath still rumbled with the sounds of mourning from the happenings above. Someone had been lost, and they likely wouldn't know who it was until....well....they got back. Matirae was thankful that she and Anakumath were still doing well, however.

This clump of thread had its eye on you. It defied all the odds and made it through not one, but three wings of dragon riders actively fighting above! It's up to you to flame it! If a Queen, your dragon puts you in position, and as you go to flame it down, you find your equipment's jammed! By the time you realize what's going on, the thread is on you, your arm, your legs, your dragon's neck back, and side. It has attached, and immediately starts to feast! Major Damage -15 HP if a Queen. plus Painful status for the next 3 turns. This will negate any XP gained, and cause double damage if the prompt includes damage (or has you roll for damage).
Maybe they weren't as lucky as Martirae would have liked. She'd just checked her flamethrower. It had been working fine through other clumps, but here it jammed and Thread twisted over Marty's arm and shoulder and all along Anakumath's neck and back before the pair Betweened away to remove it.
But they both still ached upon their return and Marty, able to bear her own out of sheer stubborn pride, immediately poured herself into checking on Anakumath.

There was a whole lot of nothing, at least, so the pair could catch their breath and try to ease the pain off of them. It just radiated, really, rather than looking bad. Which was, really, the worst part. Marty took a deep breath, trying to clear her head of the pain and....

73-77. As you're burning down a clump of Thread, something doesn't seem right. With a sudden shout and twist, your dragon lurches to the side, as a shaffing bag of firestone comes hurdling down. Damnit! What on Pern are they doing up there!?! Amateurs! +1 Instinct
Another bag of firestone falling from the sky? H'sau glared up at those above him, again. Had things gotten so bad up there that other riders were getting careless? Granted, hard work could make the fingers numb and clumsy, but this was getting ridiculous!

If Aedeth could have pounced while flying, she would practically have danced on the falling strand of Thread she spotted. As it was, her attention was on it, fat, and Niobet's followed. She leaned forward, flamethrower aimed true and pulled the trigger with a perhaps slightly inappropriate amount of glee.

98-100. Another gust wind blows, sending some silvery strands of Thread your way! Your dragon manages to twist their way through it with surprising and relative ease, and you're able to even flame down some of the fray! [+1 Agility // +1 Target Accuracy]
In this instance, Thread is far better than yet another bag of falling firestone. Even if it's being blown back toward the pair. Mereketh is ready and H'sau is keen-eyed and keeping track of the stuff. It's not hard for the little white to weave his way between strands of trouble. He even manages to sear some of it into nothingness as he goes.

On they flew, catching small bits and big clumps that fell from above. Reminiscorth glanced up as the dragons around him and above him began to keen, his soft voice joining in as well. Oh no...
"Who was it?" Mi'ra asked, feeling the weight in his heart as his small white touched in with their wing. Sorrow filled them both as he got a reply.
Lireloth and Thella, he murmured softly. Mi'ra paused to wrap his arms around his small dragon's neck in a hug, but no sooner had he done so than Remi twisted and tucked his wings, a bag of firestone sailing by at an alarming rate. The two watched it fall as they had a quiet moment of silence for their fallen wingmates, too sad to care that they'd almost been hit. Thankfully Remi had good reflexes.
