▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ A Day's Work SOLO - Thief/Stage3 - WC 1231 ( 4pts )
Usually Thea hated getting the basic snatch and grab jobs, but this time she was tasked with getting as much as she could fit into her pockets as she walked through the crowd that was gathered for a show. A performance was being put on for the masses and the rich would be out in troves. Theanduri couldn’t really complain or pass up the opportunity. Mainly because it allowed her to put her skills to use. Stretching her fingers a bit couldn’t hurt.
So here she was at the side of the gathered crowd, watching as they all moved and talked amongst one another, excited to see the performance. It hadn’t started yet but that didn’t mean that people weren’t clamoring to get the closest they could so that she could see the stage clearly. After all, why not go for the best view. Thea spotted several bracelets that sparkled just the right way in the sunlight. She mentally tagged those as targets. Then there were the nice fat purses of the rich that they so generously kept at their hips. How nice of them. Necklaces were a bit trickier to take in situations like these but it wasn’t impossible. She just couldn’t go for the heavy ones that would be noticed.
As she window shopped she waited, leaning up against the wall, for the right time to join the fray. There were too many open spots right now. She needed more bodies to pile in and give her cover from the watchful eyes of the guards. Heck, she’d even put on her fancier clothes for this. While it was similar in style to her usual it was much more expensive. The thread was golden so that it shined a little and made her fit in. The embroidery said high class, or at least money. And since it was pristine it didn’t look like she belonged in with the beggars. Thea had even decided to wear her own jewelry so that no one would find it odd that she was undecorated while wearing such clothing.
After a few more minutes of watching she seemed to smile to herself. There was finally enough people for her to join in. So she left the wall. Theanduri gently moved away from it so that her movements weren’t seen as hurried or rash. With elegance she moved into the crowd and walked, her head held high to match those around her. The first target being a golden bangle with green jewels decorating it. She managed to slip it right off the woman’s wrist without so much as a tug as she passed by, only slightly bumping into her with a muttered apology as she looked back as someone with a bit of ire in her eyes. The woman brushed it off and continued on her way while Thea walked on. The bracelet was placed in a pocket and left there for later when she would need to count her bounty.
Next was a ring that had caught her attention. It sparkled so gallantly in the midday sun. Who was she to resist such a call? And so she walked close to the gentleman wearing it. The closer she got the more pleased she was to learn that his fingers were not fat and swollen. Which meant the ring should slip off without issues. As she passed by she turned her head to look at something else, or rather look for her next target, while she used only two fingers to grab and slip the ring off. A second was all it took and she was passed the man and on her way through the bodies of the crowd. Thea slipped the ring into a different pocket and as she got farther away she heard the man tell his wife that his ring was gone. The wife scolded him for wearing such a loose ring. After that the voices faded into the crowd of excited murmurs.
Thea spotted something else she thought would be a good addition to the collection as she made her way toward another target. A small detour was made and as she got closer to the woman she faked tripping.
“Oh!” The small thief exclaimed.
“Oh my! Are you quite alright?” The woman seemed genuinely concerned for her well being, reaching for her with both hands.
Thea managed to place one hand on the lady’s shoulder to help right herself. As she did she looked the woman in the eyes and smiled before she offered a nod of her head.
“Yes, I do apologize. I believe the crowd is getting a bit rough as I was pushed out of the way there.” SHe turned her head to look back as to shift the blame of her fall.
It worked, because the woman leaned and looked as well. This presented her with the opportunity to snatch the necklace that the woman was wearing. Slight of hand was a beautiful thing and she was quick to hide the jewelry.
“I apologize again. I did not hurt you when I fell, did I?”
The woman looked back at Thea and shook her head. “Not at all dear, just be careful.”
With that the two smiled and nodded at one another before going about their separate ways. The woman never realizing she was a necklace short.
She now had three things to take back to the guild but she knew she could take more. After all, there were three other targets that she had interest in. Mainly they were bracelets and rings but they were jewels and they fetched a pretty penny. So she continued on through the crowd, snatching smaller things here and there as she could. Spur of the moment sticky fingers gaining her another four items as well as some gold from a fat coin purse.
When she made it to the target she wanted she was quick about moving around them and relieving them of the bracelet that had caught her attention. Dazzling red gems set in silver. There was even etching to give extra design to the whole thing. It was a beautiful piece and certainly one she was going to take to the guild. It would be a nice pay out for sure.
Thea moved along and eventually she started to make her way toward the back of the crowd. Her pockets were full. If she added anything else to them then they would start to bulge and look suspicious. That would only get her caught. While she was good at what she did she never overdid it. A greedy thief was a caught thief. She had no intentions of ending up in a jail cell.
As she walked along to the back of the crowd she allowed a yawn to escape her. While the day had not been a hard one it had certainly been enough to make her need a nap. Or at least a nice rest with something cool to drink. Theanduri thought about perhaps stopping on her way to the guild but that could spell trouble if she got caught with her haul. So she resolved herself to stopping on the way home. It wouldn’t hurt to enjoy a drink then. She would be in her plain clothes by then and less noticeable. Especially since the place she wanted to go wasn’t fit for fancy clothing.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ A choice SOLO - Thief/Stage3 - WC 1518 ( 5pts )
She’d received a letter that she was needed at the guild so that things could be discussed. Normally Thea would find that odd but seeing as she’d just done a job she figured there might have been something wrong with one of the items she’d snatched. Too much heat or even a fake. One couldn’t really tell if a jewel was real or not from a distance. And It wasn’t like Thea really took the time to examine what she stole while walking around with it.
Either way she had no concerns when she walked into the guild and headed for the main offices. Theanduri knew her way around so she didn’t need to be escorted like the newer members. Once she reached the guild master’s office she knocked on the door as she normally did. Three knocks then two so that he knew it was her. Of course she waited until she heard him say to enter before opening the door but it wasn’t more than a second after he’d heard her knock that the invite came.
So she pushed the door open and walked in without a care in the world. It wasn’t until she saw the serious look on his face that she gave even a little bit of pause. Her head turned ever so slightly to the side as she eyed him but when he motioned for her to sit she chewed on the inside of her cheek with a bit of worry. Thea took her seat without issue but kept her eyes peeled for anything she needed to be weary of. A weapon, the way he moved, even a look behind her to let her know something was coming. Yes, she was allowed to be paranoid.
“I’m glad you came so quickly.” He started off. “We have something to discuss, you and I, and I’d like to get it done with.” His tone alone told her this was serious.
The thief nodded her head at him but said nothing, it was likely in her best interest to first hear what was to be said before she said anything anyways.
“Right. To the point then.” He took a deep breath before he leaned back in his chair, his hand coming up in front of his chest so that he could touch his fingertips together. “Your performance is outstanding. When you are assigned a task it gets done with little worry of being exposed or caught.” His gaze had shifted to the papers on his desk, almost as if he were reading something there. “In fact, the reports that come across my desk state that a good portion of our revenue comes from items you pick up.”
She glanced down at the papers to see if she could read something there. Anything that would give her an indication of what was coming. From his words alone there was nothing wrong with her performance. Jobs were done. Money was made. So it didn’t explain why she was there.
“There have been many that have thought that perhaps it was time that we..” He paused to run his tongue along his teeth, the man had to think of how to word things before he continued. “You should be promoted. An office of your own. You could easily manage things.”
So that was it?
Thea stared at him for a moment. They had brought her in in order to offer her a promotion within the guild. While many strived for such an opportunity it wasn’t something Thea had ever had her eyes on. One because she sucked at paperwork. Two because she was not a leader. It never crossed her mind that she would enjoy sitting behind a desk and telling others what to do and where to go.
“Are you too shocked to reply?” Came the man’s words suddenly through the silence.
Thea had to blink herself out of it before she looked at him with focused eyes. “Uh.. perhaps.”
She pressed her lips together as she considered the position a bit more, her brows furrowing some. Finally she shook her head. It was too much for her. Not because she couldn’t do the job but because she wouldn’t be happy with it.
“This.. job.. Would require me to be in an office, yes?”
“Yes.”
“And that office would be here, correct?”
“Yes.” He answered her questions easily.
Thea thought about it again. Being in an office all the time would be boring, but to be in an office that would take her away from her family would be even worse. Not to mention she had family ties to another guild that might be seen as a conflict of interest in the long run. They would certainly influence her.
“I will have to decline, sir.”
“Excellen– excuse me?” He’d thought that she would accept so the answer he got was a bit of a surprise.
“I cannot take it.” She sat up straight and looked him in the eyes as she spoke. “That would require me to be here constantly rather than with my family. I do not like being inside for long so I’d get restless. And if I did not see anyone fit for the job I would just do it myself anyways. The position would be wasted on me.” She explained her position.
He nodded to her words and leaned back even more so that he could rub at his chin with his left hand. His right was on the desk tapping at the paper in front of him. A thoughtful hum left him as he really thought about what was being asked. THe guild leader knew how Theanduri was. She loved working in the field. She was good at it. And any challenge was met head on even if it was dangerous. However, she did enjoy her down time. She had a family, as everyone in the guild knew, and they were not to be touched. In all, she was the perfect candidate on paper but when it came down to her as a person she was more suited to the life she had now. And she had never been one to seek promotions for the sake of power.
So he finally nodded his head again, this time to confirm what she’d said as well as the conclusion he come to.
“Very well. I am sad to hear that you do not intend to take the promotion but I do understand your reasoning. You are a good thief and we would be remiss to take you out of the field simply because we have a spot open. Do you have any recommendations for the position then?” If she would not take it then perhaps she knew someone more suited to it? Or at the very least would give a suggestion of someone that she would take orders from.
While Thea was good at what she did, everyone knew that if she had no respect for you then she wouldn’t listen to anything you said. It did make some things a little difficult.
“Not off the top of my head, but I can keep a lookout for someone that seems worthy of it if that’s what you’d like.” She commented.
“That would be nice. I have a feeling anyone you recommend would be fit for the position.” And he believed that to be true.
Thea had the skills to work the field but she also had the skills to know when someone was good at what they did or was fit to lead. She’d been known to follow the lead of a newbie based off of her gut alone and it had always led to the success of a task no matter how green the newbie was. People had always said it was due to her skill but Thea stated time and time again it was due to the leadership of another.
“I’m sure I can find someone more suitable than me.” She grinned at that.
In truth Thea had a few ideas already but she wanted to see how those people would respond to having power before she put their names out there. It wouldn’t do to put forth someone who would end up bad for the guild or cause their organization to fall due to greed.
“Alright then, you’re dismissed.” He had nothing else to speak with her about and there was honestly no reason to keep her in his office.
“Yes sir.” With that she got up and headed for the door. Thea didn’t want to overstay her welcome and there was nothing farther she could add to the conversation.
Once she was out of the office she paused for a second to think about where she could find one of the people on her mental list. If she were correct then they should be out in the common area of the guild. Thea was sure she’d seen them when she’d come in. If they were still there then she intended to have a long conversation with them. With a grin in place she headed off. She had someone to promote.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Solutions Made Easy SOLO - Thief/Stage3 - WC 1516 ( 5pts )
It was the last day before she would head home. She missed her husband and her kids. Of course it was very likely that her brats wouldn’t even be home. The little devils had grown up on her and were out and about doing their own things. Which she was proud of them for, of course, but she missed them. Thea couldn’t wait to get her pay later so that she could head out.
While she waited she was wasting time in the market. Mostly because it amused her to watch people go by and barter with the vendors. One such vendor in particular was hard to deal with. He was set in his prices and rarely ever came down. You either paid what he asked or you got nothing. Since he was the only one in the current market that sold his wares he was able to get away with it since not many were willing to go to the other side of the city to get a lower price.
As she watched she noticed a young thief in the mix. She recognized the sigil they wore as one that identified them as part of her own guild. She found that interesting. Only because she wasn’t aware of any job in the area. And since this was the area that she covered frequently most jobs went to her first. So she sat back and observed. It looked like they were doing random snatch and grabs. They weren’t terrible at it but she clearly saw room for improvement. If she could see what they were doing, so could a guard. If the guard were smart enough anyways.
As she continued to watch them she noticed them going after a rather rich looking couple. Thea could see the appeal but it was risky for their skill level. Clearly they were hoping to get a big pay out. Before they could do anything she was moving toward them. She knew she was too far away to stop them but she could likely do damage control for when they were caught. Possibly.
She was several people back when the commotion started. Thea cringed. The poor thief had gotten caught.
“How dare you!” The woman shouted.
“Stop!” The man with the woman yelled as he grabbed the thief.
Yes, Thea had a feeling that was going to happen. She hurried her steps and shook her head to mess up her hair. That made it look like she’d been running. Giving a few puffs of breath she pushed forward through the gathering crowd. A worried look on her face as fake tears gathered in her eyes.
“Deyla!” She called out. She didn’t know the name of the little thief but that was what they would be called from now on.
Thea rushed forward to the thief and grabbed their shoulder, pulling them back so that they had to face her. They would see the sigil on her vest and know she was an ally.
“Deyla what did you do?” She asked with concern, her eyes going quickly between the thief and the man holding them. “I’m sorry sir.” Thea looked once more at the thief and determined that they had features that pointed to male. “My little brother didn’t mean any harm.”
The thief looked at her with confusion but since he noticed the sigil he didn’t fight against her. Instead he seemed to cling to her, mimicking her panic.
“This heathen stole my wife’s bracelet and you say they meant no harm!?” The man seemed to be enraged by the actions.
“No! Deyla!” Thea looked stricken as she reached for the bracelet they still had in their hands. She took it from him and looked it over before she allowed the few tears in her eyes to fall. “Deyla, this isn’t hers. I promise you it’s not mothers.” Thea shook her head at the boy.
“It is so!” He insisted, playing along.
Thea handed it back to the man since his wife was behind him. “I’m sorry sir. Our mother had something similar to that before she passed away. Deyla must have seen your wife wearing it and thought it was our mother’s.” The tale was a pitiful one but it was one that would gain sympathy from the crowd.
The man snatched it from her but his wife finally stepped forward with a worried look on her face. “You lost your mother?” She asked quietly.
The thief remained quiet but Thea nodded her head as she pulled the boy closer to her, shielding his face from others so they couldn’t get a good look. “Y-Yes..” She let her voice quiver.
“Oh dears..” The woman seemed to soften at that as she looked at her husband and placed a hand on his arm.
He huffed and handed her the bracelet before eyeing them. “You need to teach your brother better.”
“I will. I promise.” Thea patted the boy’s head as lovingly as she could, using her body to shield him.
“We got my bracelet back, lets just leave them. They lost their mother.” The woman seemed reluctant to go any farther with punishment.
The man debated for a long while before he nodded and turned to leave. After that the crowd seemed to thin.
Thea waited a second before she turned the thief and headed in the opposite direction. Under her breath she whispered to the boy. “You are lucky I saw you.”
The boy stiffened a little but went with her without a fight. When they turned the corner and were away from the crowd she let him go so that he could walk on his own. It was a while longer before he turned to look at her and fidget.
“Why did you help me?” The boy seemed to be curious about that.
“Because we are in the same guild and you could use the help. Next time don’t be so greedy.” Thea smiled at him before motioning for him to follow her.
She led him to a small pub in a back alley that was mostly used by guild members. It was good for something to drink but most people avoided it because of the location. When she sat down at a table she looked at him.
“You have some skills but you can get better.” She pointed to the seat across from her.
The boy scoffed but took the seat anyways. “Like you could have done any better.”
“Actually yeah. That bracelet was too heavy to lift in a snatch and grab like that. You needed a better distraction so she wouldn’t notice the weight shift.” She explained to him as she motioned for the server to bring her a cool mug. “You’d do good with a mentor.”
“Oh yeah, and who’s gonna do that? You?” The boy snarked at her.
“Goodness no.” Thea laughed. “I am going home to my family tomorrow and I can’t afford to take on an apprentice.” It would cut into her free time and she was too fond of that to let it go. “I can find you someone though.”
With the drink brought to her she leaned back in her chair and sighed. Thea brought her drink up to her lips and took a small sip, savoring it.
“You’d do that?” The boy questioned.
“Sure. I can find you one before I leave tonight. I have to go back to the guild and pick up my pay later anyways.” She grinned again before taking a true drink from her mug.
“I’d like that, thanks.” The boy seemed to be humbled a bit by the fact that she was willing to help him again. Not only had she kept him out of trouble earlier but she was willing to take the time to find him someone to help hone his skills.
It wasn’t lost on him that she had saved his skin from spending a night or two in a cell, but also from having to pay back the guild for bailing him out. In a way he was indebted to her.
“If you ever need anything that I can help with…” He said quietly. The boy knew he didn’t have much to offer her right now.
“Nah, don’t worry about it.” Thea brushed it off. She hadn’t done it to curry favor or have the boy owe her. “Let me finish my drink then we can go to the guild and see if I can’t find someone to teach you the good stuff.”
The boy stared at her for a moment before he nodded his head a bit dumbly. What else was he supposed to do or say? It wasn’t like he had any intention of arguing with her. So he sat there, somewhat awkwardly, while she finished her drink.
As Thea took the last gulp from her mug she laid coin on the table to pay for it then stood. As she put the mug down she motioned for the boy to get moving as well. “Come on.” They had things to do and a mentor to find.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Betrayal SOLO - Thief/Stage3 - WC 3079 ( 10pts )
“Alright does everyone know their task?” The question came from a thin looking male as he addressed the group.
There were only about four of them. Thea being among the numbers. She was sitting on the edge of a table with one of her daggers out so that she could clean beneath her nails. They were going to steal from one of the officials. Commissioned by someone to take a folder of documents. It was something in the making for months. Of course they hadn’t been told about it until now to keep any information from leaking out.
“Farrah?” The male asked another female in the group, this one was to Thea’s right sitting in a chair by the wall.
“Yeah, I got it.” She replied roughly, not liking the question directed at her.
The male nodded his head then looked at another member of their little group. “Henley?” He raised a single brow in question.
This time it was another male, this one younger but looking like he’d had a hard life. Henley nodded his head and murmured a yes.
“Good.” The first male went to the other member located on Thea’s left. “What about you, Shayna?”
The older female gave a nod of her head as she spoke. “I understand what to do.”
Finally the male looked at Theaanduri but he didn’t say anything. Instead he simply gave her the questioning brow and a tilt of his head.
Thea likewise didn’t respond with words. Instead she gave him a smirk and twirled her dagger between her fingers so that she could put it away. Once it was sheathed she pushed off the table and stood so that she could stretch her back. Sitting slouched over as she had been for so long could really make it ache. Wasn’t the best position to sit in for long periods of time.
“Then lets go.” The male said aloud.
“Hold up.. You didn’t ask her if she knew what to do.” Farrah spoke up as she pointed at Thea.
The male looked at the other female then followed her gesture back to Thea before he chuckled. “I don’t need to ask her with words. Thea had been in the guild long enough that any decent member knows when she’s paid attention.”
Which was fair. When Thea had failed to pay attention she had a million questions about things. Mostly to do with security. When she had paid attention to the details of the job then she’d worked things out in her mind. Since Theanduri hadn’t asked any questions then he knew that she was good to go.
“You’ve not worked with Thea before have you?” This time it was Shayna that spoke up, a snicker following her words. “Thea is good at plotting. If she doesn’t ask questions then she’s good.” The female bandit had moved over to stand beside Thea and patted a hand on the other’s shoulder. “If you get into a tough spot during the job look for Thea or use the signal to get her attention.”
Thea glanced to the side at Shayna as she spoke. While she didn’t mind the praise she wasn’t too keen on others thinking they could just call her over to bail them out if things got tough. They needed to be self reliant. Still she looked toward Farrah and gave a very slight nod of her head. It was to confirm that if she needed it then Thea would be there. She treated all guild members with respect and did her best to ensure they escaped and survived.
“Alright, now that we’ve gotten that out the way, move.” The lead male motioned for everyone to get on their way out the door.
Henley was the first one out the door. Farrah followed shortly after, though she still seemed to glare at Thea. Shayna was next. Each of them heading a different direction when they were outside. That left Thea and the leader behind.
“Oland.. That’s gonna be a problem.” Thea could feel it in her bones. Something was off about Farrah.
Appearance wise, Theanduri looked young. She could easily pass for the younger generation and as such looked as though she should be on the lower level of the guild. Not the status she currently held. Her skills had gained her much but she had also put in the time. Btt newcomers could easily get jealous of perceived favoritism.
“... She should be good.” Oland replied.
Thea took a deep breath and let it out slowly. She couldn’t shake that gut feeling but she went along with things anyways. So she left next. The thief took a hard right outside the door and moved toward her position.
In truth her place was the other direction but if anyone was watching them then she didn’t want them to know where she was really going. The time she was meant to be in position was already tucked away in her mind so she was working off the timer she had for herself. Oland didn’t correct her when he too eventually left the building they’d been in so she kept going. Thea walked confidently through the streets. She’d been in the city since she was a baby so she knew each and every alley way, which ones would be full of people at which times, and if any were blocked for any reason. She made it her business to know the streets and their goings on. It would never do to be caught unprepared when one needed to get away.
She walked for a good ten minutes before she eventually reached the place she should be. She’d taken a bunch of turns, sped up randomly and slowed down at other times. Any tail she might have gained after leaving would have been lost. She unpredictability would have gained her alone time. Now she crouched as she got into the shadows so she could move better. This was the part she liked the best. Going unseen.
Just as she got herself in the perfect place to watch the others she heard the first ready call. A mimic of a native bird but in a series that was not natural. No one would know that unless they studied the birds. A second followed to let her know two of her guild comrades were where they needed to be. Another minute went by and a third reached her. That was three of them. She just needed one more and then she could signal her own. It had been planned out that she would be the last one so that everyone else knew that each had made it and wouldn’t question who they were waiting on.
A minute passed before the final call came. Each of them had been identical in notes. So she knew that the rest of the group was there. Her call, while the last, was also different in cadence. It let the others know that she’d heard each of them and that all were accounted for. It made for a good communication system when one couldn’t simply call out with words or see each other.
From the discussion earlier she knew that Oland would be the first to move. He would get into position to enter the residence they were all surrounding. Next would be Farrah. She’d be poised to create a small distraction outside in the street. A brawl with an urchin that passed by everyday. Since they were a main feature to daily life in the area it wouldn’t be too suspicious. Third would be Henley. He’d make his way on the property to enter through another point. It would allow him to monitor the moves of anyone too close to where Oland was going to be. Shayna would be fourth to move. She’d make her way over to the back side and wait for delivery of the documents. She was the get away. Her task was to make it to the guild without any suspicion. Thea would be last. Her task was to make sure everyone got out and that if the job looked like it was compromised then she was to send the signal for all to evacuate.
She’d gotten that task because her eyes were keen and her gut usually served her well. She’d saved many members from getting lynched simply because she had a bad feeling. The few times guild members had ignored her they had been caught and ended up in a jail cell. That was a place that none of the current team wanted to be.
So she watched and waited. Calls went up to let her know what was going on. Team members moved and got on with their tasks. The sound of a fight coming from the front of the building served its purpose and several guards left to break it up. Oland went in along with Henley. Thea saw nothing wrong. At least not with their parts. What she did find suspicious was how quickly the scuffle was silenced.
Farrah had given up rather easily.
Theanduri narrowed her eyes and listened. No. That wasn’t true. There was no gruff tone of a guard arresting someone or sending others off. Instead there were calm tones of a discussion. Then silence.
Betrayal.
That was what her gut told her.
But she was loathe to send out the call if she were in the wrong. She’d have to explain why she’d done it when they all met up and to say she thought Farrah to be a snake without evidence would be serious. Of course she didn’t have to wait long. A minute later she saw guards approaching her exact position. Since she was well hidden in the shadows she knew they’d been told of her exact place.
Thea waited until the last second. The more they were focused on her the more time her team had to finish their own tasks. So when she was left with only two escape options she sent out the call to get gone. It was the sound of a shrill whistle designed to get attention. She needed them to know she’d been compromised.
“Get her!” A guard shouted.
That was her cue! Theanduri left the shadows and booked it. She’d been on a balcony across the street but her safe exits had been blocked. So now she moved up onto the rail and turned so that she faced the building. A strong leap brought her close to the low hanging roof. With sure hands she grabbed it and pulled herself up quickly. Thea didn’t have time to worry about being stealthy now. She needed to get out.
“Don’t let her get away!” She heard the shouting behind her.
Once on the roof she found her footing and took off at a run. She needed speed if she was going to make the jump to the next building. She didn’t stop or slow down for anything. Thea had done it enough times to know that hesitation would end in disaster and she wasn’t keen on falling to the street below. Rolling landing or not it would hurt. So when she reached the edge she took another leap and sent herself flying across the gap and onto the roof next door.
When she landed she let her body go down and rolled. It still jarred her joints but there was no serious damage. Thea looked back long enough to see one guard pulling back an arrow and aiming at her.
“Essd bless me!” She muttered sarcastically before moving into action. She needed to get her butt going!
Whzzzt.
The sound of the arrow going past her shoulder caused her to bite at her tongue. It struck the roof and lodged into the tile. That would have put her down for sure! The guards were not out for capture, they were out for blood!
“Don’t let the assassin get away!” She heard the yell from behind her.
Assassin!? Had Farrah told them she was there to kill someone? Were they stupid? Assassins hardly ever worked in daylight. Fading or not! It was too easy to be identified. Not to mention her face wasn’t covered. She’d be a poor assassin if she was one. Not to mention she didn’t have weapons. Daggers hardly counted. She’d have to be up close and personal. What damage were they expecting her to do with them from a balcony across the street?
It didn't matter. At the moment she needed to disappear. And fast. Another arrow went sailing past her, this time closer. Theanduri cursed as she pushed herself to move faster and jump the next gap between roofs.
When she landed she hit hard and the roll didn’t do much to help. She groaned but pushed herself up so she could go. Thankfully this roof had an access that she was planning to use so she could make it down to street level. At least there she could blend in or hide behind other people. Just as she opened the door she saw the large body of a guard coming at her.
Thea had all of a split second to move out of the way of the sword arcing its way for her head. A heavy step back and a bend at her waist got her out of fatal range but the tip of the blade slid across her face. A scream of pain left her as the metal sliced through the skin. From her cheek bone to her brow was cut open.
She stumbled back several paces and brought her left hand up to cover her now bleeding eye. Her good eye stayed on the guard as he made it out onto the roof to join her, the look on his face clearly saying he was going to enjoy putting her down.
“Got you now you filthy assassin.” He claimed.
Theanduri didn’t bother correcting him. It would only be seen as groveling anyways. So instead she made sure to keep a good distance between them. She didn’t want to meet that sword again. Once was enough. Her right hand pulled a dagger from her belt and held it in a defensive position. Her left hand came away from her eye, the bleeding hadn’t stopped but she needed both hands if she was going to make it out of this.
With one eye closed she was at a slight disadvantage. She thought slight because the guard might have the upper hand with weapon but she still knew the environment better. Which meant that just over the roof was a pen of Xaraanis. Thea just needed to get there without ending up with the sharp end of the blade being put somewhere it shouldn’t be.
``Nowhere to run. Might as well give up.” The guard goaded her.
He might be of that impression but she knew better. The only time she’d be out of options if she was completely surrounded and in the middle of the desert. Thea would never just give up. A jail cell was not a place she’d enjoy being. Nor was the hangman’s noose. So she moved.
A quick rush of the guard caught him unaware and his eyes widened as he thought she meant to die at his hand instead of being brought in. So he grabbed his weapon with both hands and made to swing down on her with full force. But at the last second when she saw him start his downward swing she moved to the side. Thea would be side from the blade and it left the guard wide open. She planted one foot and used the other to spartan kick him right in the side. The action threw the guard to the side and made Thea stumble back a few steps.
A clattering of the sword told her he’d dropped it and that gave her all the time she needed. Quick on her feet she moved to the side of the roof she knew she needed. Looking down she saw the restless Xaraan. A shout from the guard behind her told her she didn’t have time to worry about another injury. So she took a few steps back then ran full force at the side of the roof. Just before she reached the edge she jumped up. Her body kept the momentum and went over the side before falling down.
Thea had seen the beasts below and knew she’d land on one. When she made impact she felt the wind rush from her lungs. Of course she had little time to worry about that. She’d startled the beasts and they instantly started to panic. So her focus went to holding on. The stir of the beasts was enough to make each of them run and buck. The pen couldn’t hold them when they were all in a frenzy like that. And she spurred them on by kicking and hollering at them to get moving.
Before long the whole pen of Xaraanis was stampeding down the street, the pen door having busted open. Thea kept hold of the one she landed on. She didn’t even bother trying to steer the animal. It would follow the others and they were going far away from where they were previously since it was unsafe at the moment.
She couldn’t hold her bleeding eye so there were drops here and there. A trail to follow but it would take the guards a while to pick it up. And if she was lucky the beasts following behind would kick up enough street dust that it was covered. Making the trail harder to follow if not impossible.
Theanduri kept hold for as long as she could but the jarring motions were getting to be a lot and she was getting weaker by the minute. With her one good eye she looked at the buildings she was passing and when one stood out as something she was very familiar with she let go. Tucking and rolling out of the way, though not without getting kicked here and there as well as stepped on. She was going to have a lot of bruises after this.
Once she was clear of the stampede she coughed and groaned but didn’t have time to simply lay there. So she forced herself to get up and disappear. Thea needed to make it to the healer. Her eye needed saving. If she were lucky she wouldn’t lose it or her sight.
