Ain't no sunshineHe wanted to document the runes somehow, pictures maybe. Ever would probably like to look at them. It was what he was working on specializing, maybe he'd even seen them before. He was reaching back for the waterproof bag tied to his hip before he paused at Melvin's comment. "One off conversation isn't damning, Melvin. We've had plenty of interactions that ended just fine." He snorted softly, amused, and finished reaching for the bag so he could free his phone. "I could go, though," he'd offer, off handed, flicking pale eyes up. "If you'd rather I not be here." But it wasn't as if he believed that to be true. He wiggled his phone with one hand, and gestured to the runes with the other. "Do you think they'd mind if I took pictures? I want to show the carvings to Ever, maybe he's seen something like them before."

How are you Dewing"Nothing so important. I'm more a glorified intern. Enough to fill a vacancy and help things and trusted enough to not set anything on fire but not knowledgeable or trusted enough with launch sequences. Atlantis hust needs help with repairs and I'm sure they don't want a whole bunch of people stripping the place to the frames from Kim's steal scare and don't have the enegy to direct a lot of people. I just want them to get to be operational again and help this place get back to what it once was. But I'm not an expert after a few days either. It's a very old culture. I'm baffled most of the time."
He ran a hand at the back if his neck as he thought about it. "I don't think much can prepare you for something like this. I'm just glad they had food, running fresh water, and nice beds. Overall it's like working at a foreign outpost without the Sun....or any people."

Ain't no sunshine "You don't have to go. Just wasn't sure." Wasn't sure if Zeke found him too much if a headcase to be around.
"His eyes went to the wall. "I dont think they would. This is just the lobby. Documenting this place is something I've been meaning to do. I've been starting to get the layout of the inside but it's too dark to take photos to map much."
Still holding the blanket, he moved over to stand next to him. "Hoe is everything up above?"

How are you DewingSeren listened to all of this, her head tilting as she took Melvin's words into consideration. "As long as you're doing what needs to be done, and are getting some sort of satisfaction out of it, that's what matters, right?" She paused, then added "I do hope you are getting something satisfying out of it, beyond helping save us all from the undying rain." She didn't want to comment on Kim, because she still hurt at the loss of her friend.

How are you Dewing
"Yeah," Rhys chimed in after Seren, "as long as you get s**t done, glorified intern or whatever, and come back once it's all done then that's cool." Though by the way he made it sound he felt it might be a long while still before Melvin would be back on the island, so he imagined he might jump back down for another visit or two in the days or weeks or months to come.
"If they're thinkin' of keeping you here long-term then maybe by the end you won't be too confused by all of it," he offered, sensing perhaps a bit of frustration in the tail-end of what he said. "Not sure getting used to not having a lot of your usual comforts is something I'd wanna do, personally, but you're already here and kinda stuck. But we'll swim down and visit once in a while so you don't get all stir-crazy and s**t."
He glanced down at Seren as he said that, knowing that she would back him up.

Forgiveness"I hated your expectations of me. I hated the ideas you feel I should fit into. You also seem uncomfortable and unhappy whenever I'm around. I don't think I'm any good to the people you want to keep around you." He admitted.
"So I don't hate you specifically. We rarely talked much outside of just the everyday dinner clatter and whenever we bumped ways in the house. I had my life and you had yours. I thought yoy always just had some bond with Lawr that made you want to be there despite Mik fighting with you and all the warnings about Lawr."
"It feels like you are trying to prove something when you talk to me. Like I'm what you thought I was."

ForgivenessMelody's face scrunched up a little as she listened. It was clear she didn't much like his take on things. "What exactly were my expectations of you? What do you think I'm trying to prove by being here exactly? Because I sure don't seem to recall anything like that other than just, being bothered by that one thing you did. Otherwise..." She shrugged at him. "I don't know. Is it a problem to view you as more knowledgeable in some things than I am and ask you about them?" She shrugged again, this time far more exaggerated. "I just wanted a place to belong and for a while I did. Then things got uncertain and the boys left and I didn't think I'd be welcome anymore at that point. I'm definitely not now." And that actually hurt, but she really only had herself to blame. She left and wasn't family - Lawr also had very specific terms and she felt she'd violated at least one at some point since leaving if not the very act of leaving violated it in the first place. "I liked everyone though; Lawr, Mik, Malk, Rodney, and you. I don't think we fought all that much, not like you make it sound, but definitely at the end. I really liked Mik especially though." To that she gave Melvin a wobbly uncertain frown. "He just didn't like me. I don't think.

Ain't no sunshineBut headcases were interesting. "I'll get as much of it as I can, then. Wouldn't be a bad idea for more than one person to document it, just in case." But he could do that before he left, and he slipped the phone back into his pocket for the moment. He glanced back at Melvin as he mentioned it being too dark, brows arching curiously. "No lights?" Moving around in what had to be close to absolute darkness sounded terrible. Claustrophobic and damn near maddening. He cringed visibly at the thought. "Everything on the surface is fine. The suns back, everyone's happy." His lips slid back into a smug smile. "I got promoted."

Is Wetter Better?
"If we can stop people from making dumb mistakes in the first place, nothing would ever happen." Joy chuckled, "But forces that are on Deus side would be nice for a change. After all the Horsemen and hostile Halloweens, someone who isn't trying to kill us because of the coat we wear is mos def welcome."
At Melvin's prying, Joy couldn't help but look evasive, "Weird in the sense that they're focusing on things about me that don't normally get focused. Or maybe I'm just not used to them paying attention to me if that makes sense?"

"You expected me to be some parental figure and I disappointed you when I never said I was or wanted to be one in the first place." He pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Why do you even talk to me when you found what I did so repulsive and a act or betrayl to your ideas and expectations of me? Do you enjoy easily moving past those things you felt so strongly about?"
He leaned against the wall. "Mik's an a*****e and you aren't thick skinned enough to handle him. You should move on. Same with Lawr. He lies. He probably would have sold your soul if it would lift a wrinkle."

Ain't no Sunshine
"The more documentation, the better. I can't argue with that." He watched as the light from Zeke's phone shined against the runes, but was too wary to assist him.
Taking a moment, he walked arounf Zeke to inspect his new coat and gave a long whistle. "Look at that. Sun comes out and they start feeling generous." He teased. "Who the hell approved you to get into Life? Here I thought you might be smart but then you agree to go into that miserable division." He shook his head.

Ain't no sunshine Zeke snorted, arms folding as Melvin circled him. "They don't give Mist research space in the labs, unfortunately." He wasn't actually sure if that was true, but staying in Mist hadn't been an option, not really. Not with everything he wanted to do. "Besides, I want to finish my doctorate, and you have to be in Life to access online classes."which he'd quests found unfair, but there wasn't much he could do about it. "If you have act samples of anything you've found, is be happy to take them back with me. If you're willing to share, even better. I still need to get tanks set up, but small things should be fine." He looked over at the walls again, debating on if he should take a swab. He glanced back at Melvin, brows lifting as he asked, "You getting a lot of company down here?"

Ain't no sunshine Melvin thought for a moment then raised a finger. "One sec." He left through the gates. After a few minutes, he returned and held up what looked like a doll with half of a fish's body.

"Here."
And he handed it off to Zeke.

ForgivenessShe listened silently for the most part, various emotions swelling inside her, mostly conflicting among themselves before one seemed to take over. Anger. "I said I trusted you," Melody finally snapped. "But then what you did pulled everything into question. Like, were you just being like him? Just being nice to get something else? But unlike him, you weren't willing to admit it outright?" She shook her head at him. "I came because I wanted to give you a chance. But I see now I'm the one without any chances. Did you ever even like me? Anything at all about me? Or are you just using this as a reason to wash your hands of me? Because right now you just sound like a... like a huge... d**k! A huge d**k!"

Forgiveness
He stared back at her. "You came down here to give me a chance? Like I asked for it?" He said, looking at her.
"Oh don't be so damn naive, Melody. EVERYONE is after their own interest. It's the motivational factor or why anyone gets out of bed each day, and they can spin it with whatever moral justification but in the end it's selfish want for something."
"You being here was a want you had. You always show up and expect something. You come and wait for me to be something better to prove that your idea of me can be validated. That I was the person you thought I was when countless evidence shows the contrary. Let's be clear then."
"I'm a d**k. I'm an a*****e." He pressed a finger to list on one hand. "I ******** Lawr. I put moves on his son. I don't need to impress someone who wants to hold me to their standard. Especially someone how hasn't accomplished s**t since being here. What have YOU don't recently? What makes you so damn special and morally great? You don't even know what ******** entails and you judge my antics when you have ZERO experience to know what mistakes even are. You risk nothing."
"You were someone who lived in the house that Lawr liked to keep around. We barely even know each other. We're not even the same age which is why you even thought me hitting on Mik was creepy in the first place. What do you want from me? Why do you keep coming to me expecting me to give you some different answer or impression of me? It's clear, Melody. You either accept I'm a d**k who hit on Mik and doesn't give a ******** anymore, or you accept me as a d**k and want nothing to do with me. There isn't any changing the past. I'm not pristine, and I'm not here to ask forgiveness from you of all people. You are barely a damn blip on my radar right now among ALL THE OTHER s**t I'm dealing with right now." To which he gestured to the very obvious gate behind him.
