 『 Ȼɑɼɱεɳ Ϣɼɩʈε 』 Carmen quickly stood as the café was quickly swarmed with insects. She wasn’t a fan of the creepy crawlies at the best of times, but a whole swarm of them was much more than she could reasonable stay calm around. It seemed calmer minds would prevail though, and save the illusionist hours in the shower trying to make sure her red locks were free of bugs as Alvin snapped into action. In other circumstances she might have mourned the loss of her tea, but in the current situation it was more than a fair trade in her opinion. Carmen might have commented on the misinformation the eavesdropper seemed to have picked up – they weren’t actually planning on killing Mathis, just hurting him a little – but there seemed to be more important things at stake. Like if this insect controlling Deviant was affiliated with Mathis. Alvin seemed to have things handled though, so Carmen decided to let him take the lead and deal with their attacker. ✨ What if a dream was reality and reality was a dream?
What If things we imagine actually happened?

Lexi wasn’t totally sure if she should be concerned that his thought was to simply kill Alvin, or relieved that he decided that wasn’t an option. It was strange to her as he seemed to simply speak whatever thought came into his mind. A stark reminder of how much he had been changed. “I am sure Alvin is well aware of the consequence for attacking another member of Providence. I doubt it will stop him. I would advise having a contingency plan in the event he does attack. Take some precautions so you aren’t an easy target for him.” Of course the best option would be to convince Alvin not to attack at all, but based on his words she doubted she would ever convince Mathis to go that way. “I don’t think the people you have killed is their primary concern, but that you have switched sides twice now. How do they know you won’t go back to the Dominion? At least that is how the majority feel. Alvin has obviously taken things more personally. He won’t see the logic in if it wasn’t you, it would have just been someone else.” Lexi paused slightly, trying to organize her thoughts in a way to explain to Mathis. “He…they oppose you because you don’t show remorse for your actions. They think you kill without a thought about the life you are taking. They think you are….well regardless of how much an asset you might be to Providence some feel the means don’t justify the end. If we use the same tactics as the Dominion than how are we any better?”

"What would you have me do?" Mathis asked bluntly after Lexi spoke. She seemed to have an opinion she was not voicing and it bothered him. There was a time when she would have spoken her mind and it seemed that time had passed. "Apologize? It won't bring back his family. Or should I continue to annoy him?I could shame him for crying, for his looks. Then again he could do the same to me. Mock my glasses, my suit, my haircut. We could insult each other until the world fell apart and it would achieve nothing. He dislikes me for what I did, and I dislike him because he allows emotion to rule his being. We both have our reasons but neither of us is willing to listen to the other so there is no point. If he wants to attack me, he can." Mathis was about to say more. He was about to say He can come for me and die just like his family did when they attacked me. But he knew it was wrong. He knew what he did. He knew that he killed them in defense of himself but even then he had killed them. After a moment to think Mathis spoke again. "If Alvin wishes to bring ruin upon me, I shall let him. He can not hurt me as I have hurt him because there are few things left in the world that I care about and they are all beyond him." Including you. Another thought that he did not voice. Two words that would have changed the impact of that sentence altogether and he had chosen not to speak them because he had still not determined how he felt about Lexi. Still, all things considered, only a fool would think Mathis hadn't made contingencies. Knowing Alvin's power was the first step. If Alvin sought to ruin him, Mathis would ensure that ruin befell them both. Those who go seeking vengeance had best dig too graves. "On the topic of the tactics we use... to succeed we must throw aside our morality. We can not defeat them if we are not willing to lower ourselves. They are more powerful, we must be smarter."

"Some people were born on earth to be sent to hell." ░░Cameron Harth░░ Hell Hound Cammy watched the blonde woman go into the cafe that had a smile on her face. This woman seemed to be full of energy compared to Cammy and it startled her a little but she couldn't sense anything from the blonde which was one of the reason she decided to stay. That along with the fact she really was looking forward to that cup of coffee. Just like the blonde asked, Cammy waited for her outside like she was told just like a good dog would. The young woman kept her eyes on the ground till she heard the sound of the door opening, making her look up to see the blonde returning the her new cup of coffee. " Thank you." She said softly with a slight nod as she took her coffee from the blonde. " Its alright really. It happens." Cammy could think of numerous times she ran into things and causing a mess but normally she would say sorry and get out of there as fast as possible. Cammy took a quick sip of her coffee, trying to burn herself when she noticed the blone named Ainsley had her hand out. The lavender haired girl hesitated a little before lightly taking Ainsley hand to shake it. " Cameron... But please call me Cammy."

"Well, Cammy, why don't you walk with me for a bit?" She offered, wondering whether the girl would take her up on it or not. She seemed quite skittish, and very unsure about everything that was going on. "I promise we can stick to the more quiet streets." She said with a wink. Ainsley wasn't doing much today except grading papers, but perhaps the girl needed a place to get away from the bustle of the city streets. She didn't seem to like being in the open too much."So, do you live around here?" She asked the girl curiously, trying to get her to open up a bit. Of course, most people wouldn't go telling strangers their life stories anyways, but Ainsley had never really cared too much about things like that. She was more concerned with trying to get the girl to relax a little. It seemed as though she had disrupted what little comfort Cammy had achieved, and so she was still trying to atone for her clumsiness. ↳ooc: ...

“I see you can still see through me. You won’t like my answer.” After all she would have simply recommended it if she thought otherwise. It was her way of dealing with things, not Mathis’s. “I would simply appease him. Apologize to him. Tell him it just eats you up instead and you can’t sleep at night, for those you’ve killed haunt your dreams. Tell him you really came to back to make up for your sins if you must. Whatever it takes to end this foolishness so we can focus on what is actually important.” Lexi gestured to Mathis’s wall of photos and string. “His vendetta divides us when we need to be working together more than ever. Providence can’t afford this distraction and you have more than enough enemies as it is.” It seemed Mathis was especially skilled at making enemies. For everything that had happened to between, all the complications and confusion on just how she felt towards Mathis and what their relationship currently was these days, she did know one thing. She still cared for him and worried about him. If she didn’t she wouldn’t be here in the first place. She didn’t want any harm to come to him. “Why does being smarter necessitate lowering ourselves and throwing our morals out? The way I see it, then we’ll just be the same as them and the fight will truly become about who is more powerful. Providence will lose the supporters we gain from those disgusted by the Dominion’s violence.”

"There is no appeasing him. Not anymore. Perhaps if I had done so in the meeting it would have been fine but by now others will have helped his hatred grow. What I say won't take away the pain or his desire to inflict pain on me in return. I have been the therapeutic voice to many with his mindset. Nothing I say will make a difference. My words will only anger him more." Mathis moved onto the other topic that they were discussing briefly. "Providence and the Dominion are not all the different. Two sides in a war. Two sides causing the war. If one stood down life would be fine for everyone. The Dominion has no plans to destroy the world so we will all just continue living if they win. Providence as well. They fight because they have differing ideals so why should it matter how they fight? What would you do? How would you impact this war if you refused to do the dirty work?"

“Tell him you were too embarrassed in the meeting. Upset by your own failures and feeling defensive.” Though Lexi quickly sighed and glanced away from Mathis. “Perhaps you are right.” If Alvin even suspected Mathis was insincere in his apology it would make things much much worse. The lie was getting too complex. Too many excuses.“I suppose I can attempt to dissuade him.” She wasn't sure how much more successful she would be, but she felt compelled to try to do something. Simply waiting for Alvin to attack Mathis made her uncomfortable. Something else he said caught her attention though. “You were the therapeutic voice to many with his mindset?” She repeated in the form of a question with a slightly amused tone. She had a feeling there was some kind of interesting story behind that statement “What I would have Providence do, or what I would do personally?” Those were two very different questions.

JAYSON WRIGHT Jayson sat behind the wheel of a cop car as he blazed through traffic, he had the sirens on but no particular destination in mind. He had bought the car from a police auction almost two months ago and was finally getting to drive it. He cast a glance behind him at Adora, who seemed to be asleep again before looking at Lucy who was sat besides him in the front, then returned his attention back to the road. He ran his hand through his hair and wondered what he was going to do, the trip to Providence had been a colossal waste of time and while he had got to see some of the remnants of his old family they weren't the same people that he had known from back then. He went around a corner, drifting the tires in an effort not to crash before straightening out and shifting gears so that he could shoot off down this new road. To hear that Mathis didn't desire peace didn't really surprise him, the pair had never seen eye to eye and it was only fitting that when one turned to it that the other would be staunchly opposed. He sighed as he eased off the gas and finally began to slow down, if Providence was all about war then he would just need to seek allies from elsewhere to progress with his plans. He turned off the siren and glanced over at Lucy again, he was beginning to have doubts about her and how well she fit with them. "Lucy..." He paused, as he eased to a stop behind another car at the lights. "What do you want out of this? I'm trying to bring peace or at least broker a temporary truce in time for election season." He glanced at the lights before looking at her. "Bare minimum is contacting both sides before whipping up a media firestorm." He only had to appear like he tried it mattered little if they were actually on board at this point in time or not because once it got out that both sides rejected the idea he was fairly certain it wouldn't look good for them. "Are you just after a pay check or would you be willing to align your politics with mine for a little bit? I don't want to keep paying you to be here if you don't want to be. You cannot protect me from myself and Adora... Well" He smiled and then saw that the light had changed so drove onward. "Long story short, I want you to help me but only if you want it, and don't expect any more offers like today. That ship has sailed, Miss 'I'm outnumbered so will slag off my boss and then do nothing but still expect payment.' Well and truly." He smiled at her, it wasn't that he cared about the money, more that he hand wanted her to lay waste to the room and she hadn't delivered.

Ainsley then offered Cammy to take a walk with her and she looked at the blonde a little surprised. " You want to walk with me?" Out of all the people this woman could of asked she asked the less likely person to even look at you in the eye. She couldn't understand why Ainsley was still around her acting so buddy buddy. Cammy looked around the street and took a sniff of the air as if she was looking for any reason why not to trust this energetic woman. " That sounds good." Cammy said as she turned her head swiftly to move the hair away from her face without using her hands.She then started taking slow steps so that is Ainsley wanted to lead the way she could before Ainsley asked her another question. " U-Um... No not really. I am staying at a hotel, just passing through."

"You know I won't tell him any of that." Mathis responded plainly. He expected Lexi would know that. Even before the Dominion that was never something he would say. "You may do as you like. I expect he will assume I sent you. He will probably assume that you're wrapped around my finger." Who wouldn't? Really? Lexi was one of the few people who seemed to have unwavering loyalty to Mathis. It was a selective club. He ignored her first question about his old practice and instead answered her second. "Both. Providence and you. " Mathis had more to say but needed her answer first.

"I did warn you, you wouldn't like it." She reminded him. She wouldn't have even brought up attempting to appease Alvin in such a way if he hadn't pressed her to share her opinion. "I hate that they think about me, as if I am some puppet incapable of making my own choices. Is it really that difficult for them to accept that I do not hate you?” Carmen’s proclamation during the meeting had bothered her a lot more than she had shown at the time, but it was easy to forget herself when alone with Mathis. Carmen probably meant it as an insult to Mathis, that he was manipulative and only using her, but really it was Lexi they were insulting. “I have a feeling Alvin will come to me sooner, rather than later regardless. Wrapped around your finger or not, I still know more about you than anyone else he has access to.” She was probably even more so a tempting target for information with he really thought she was so easily manipulated by others. “I can understand that death is a necessary part of war, but it doesn’t mean we should ruthlessly and brutal endeavour to kill our enemies. If it was up to me, I would have Providence start a propaganda campaign, but not the one they talked about in the meeting. I would have them show the worst of the Dominion and the best of Providence. The brutal death and destruction they cause. The people and Deviants we help, in the hopes to gather more allies while eroding their own. Show those enemies we capture kindness in the hopes of turning them to our side.” Providence was easy. Answering for herself was a little more complicated. She’d been honest with him thus far, so there was no reason to stop now. “As for myself…I am no longer sure. What had started out fighting for what I thought was right had turned into decidedly more selfish reasons. Ultimately I would kill Snow. More realistically, I’ll probably continue to go on whatever mission Providence puts me on.” Or least until she could figure out how she wanted to move forward from here."Do you mind if I sit down?" Honestly she hadn't expected to stay for so long, but it was getting to the point where standing in the middle of his living room was beginning to get awkward.

"You did warn me." Mathis first responded to her first reminder and then moved to the topic of Alvin coming to her. "It is possible that he will come to you. When he does, I'd advise against telling him anything. If he has questions about me, he can ask me. Other than that I'd hope you mislead him." He didn't know what Alvin would ask but if he had questions about Mathis, Alvin could just go to Mathis. When Lexi explained what she would have Providence do it amused him. Only because he had fought on a side in opposition to Providence. He knew what they did to those they captured and while the Dominion was cruel, Providence was not run by saints. It may not have been condoned but not every leg of Providence held prisoners. Those that did were not often kind. When she asked to sit he gestured towards a chair to permit it. "You'd run a smear campaign. Ideal in an election but this is not one. Yes we need to turn the people away from the Dominion but showing that they are cruel is not enough alone. And we can't paint Providence as saints. I know first hand that they are not. I would say eliminating the fear of the Dominion is the first step and at the moment the easiest way to do that is with victories. They can only be achieved by doing the missions we are given. So I will agree with you on that. As for killing Snow... I am working on that."

“Your secrets aren’t mine to share. How would you have me mislead him?” Then again, he probably remembered most of those events differently now. Still just as there were many things about her she wouldn’t want him to tell others, Mathis was generally a topic she avoided she avoided talking about with other people. Misleading Alvin would be somewhat difficult without saying anything about Mathis though. While she had her own ideas on how she would attempt to direct the conversation with Alvin, she was curious on what Mathis would have her do. With his gesture she removed the coat she had been wearing, folded it over one arm, and took a seat. “Smear campaigns have worked incredibly well in wars throughout history. What difference does it make if Providence are saints or not, so long as the majority believe it? I would argue that people need to fear the Dominion, but know Providence can protect them. The method is more or less the same though, victories, just different messaging along with them. And I can see you are working on Snow.” She gestured slightly to the wall. “Do you have any idea how you are going to do it?”

"It is no secret between us that we both believe in different histories for me." Mathis began with a topic that didn't seem directly connected to Alvin and he would bring it around to Alvin. Then he would also connect it to Snow. "To my memory, I was always a spy. They found me when I was young and convinced me that I should spy on Providence. To you, they brainwashed me after the Battle of New York. Unfortunately both stories have plenty of holes in them. If I was a spy the whole time, how did I get passed telepaths? Why did I feel the way I felt. Why did I sacrifice the feeling in my hands to stop a simple test?" Mathis looked down on the scars on his palms and a little bit of the uncertainty that had lead him back to Providence returned to his thoughts. "A simple spy wouldn't give up so much when their loyalty was not in question. But then there are the holes in your theory. If I was loyal, why was I so distant? Why did I push people away? Why did I let them push me around? Why did I kill the only survivor above ground after the facility was attacked? Why did I survive the fall of two facilities and many battles since?" Mathis paused a moment as more doubts surfaced in him. He knew Lexi would be able to tell. "In summary, I can't give you a Mathis to tell him about. To me, the reality of my past is unclear. I don't know..." He paused. Moments ago, when he began, he had been so certain of what he was saying but now it faded from his mind as the doubts rushed back into his head. "Tell him what he wants to know. But if he asks for a weakness, give him a strength." That was all he could think to summarize before his thoughts moved to the next topic. Providence. "You would tell everyone we are good when we are no batter than the Dominion. We can protect them, so can the Dominion. They fear the Dominion because we paint them as a threat but if you think about it, what has the Dominion done that is so horrible? You talk about using smear campaigns like in other wars throughout history. So then, consider that the Dominion has not done anything that would not be done in a war. A war that is only raging because we continue to fight. Don't get me wrong, supremacy is a cruel ideal and it is one that their leaders hold, but the majority in the day to day life are only there because it an easier life. The Dominion is cruel because humanity was cruel to them. They won't apologize for being monsters, because one apologized for making them that way." A sentence he could deeply relate to. Then he moved to the last topic she had brought up. How he would kill Snow. That would be the most difficult task he would ever undertake but she had made him a killer. She had twisted the dark in him and made him good at what he did. With time, she would regret that. "I have a plan but it will take time. I need to kill her friends first. She is too calculated. If she doesn't take personal losses she will not feel enough pressure to make a mistake. I will go after the other founders first. As they fall, she will feel more pressure on her shoulders. Ideally, she will crumble. If that fails I just do what I have been doing and slowly chip away at her control. Or poison her. Poison works too."
