As Vee contemplated her options Iridescent waited quietly, seeming to recline as the candidate made up her mind. They were patient enough to let her make them good questions. It'd be a terrible shame if she were to waste the opportunity. Besides, Iridescent was curious to see what she came up with.

When the question finally was posed the feeling of a slow smile moved through the warm glow. Oh yes, Iridescent certainly did want to be powerful. The young mind practically thrummed with the desire. To be seen, their true worth realised, to be recognised. Who wouldn't want those things? Iridescent could see inside Vee and knew that she certainly did. Did she have what it took to get there though? True enough she had done things to survive, but this game's rules were a little different. Could she make those choices with a calm head? When it wasn't life or death, when she had long nights to contemplate her next move and to think about just how the pieces would fall.

That was her first question and, as they promised, Iridescent had answered. What would be her second question?

Iridescent was patient, patient and hungry for power and... clever, yes, this dragon was smart.

Vee had never been patient - no need - and she'd not had any use for long plans either but she wasn't Holdless anymore and yes, things would be different here. Whatever the rules of this place were though she'd learn them and either she'd use them or she'd climb over them to get what she wanted.

Second question....

Well as Iridescent said this was all about the eggs meeting minds that could be their rider's, with that in mind what was the most important trait it was seeking in a bonded?

Not really, they've been awake for a while now, and good morning to you, Joscelin. Average is as neutral to Joscelin as they have been to each candidate thus far, polite and civil, but not especially friendly. The young mind looks over the candidate, making note of their features. Unlike Snowdrift however their assessments are not judgemental. Average acknowledges Joscelin's attention to detail, practical behaviour, tendency towards grudges, bond with Quill, and desire to protect his home all the same. Not deeming any feature to be good or bad. Average is only a mirror to reflect who you are, they don't colour that image with their own personal biases.

"I do hope you have a good day," He replied, unsure how to take merely being observed. Snowdrift judged yes, but Average was merely there as if he was interesting and that was all. It felt a bit odd. Certainly didn't give any feel as if he should linger though.

Joscelin gave a thoughtful noise before returning to Lamenting, setting a hand on the shell he already knew to be slick and prepared for the sorrow. "Just wanted to let you know I wrote to my mother and sister, and thank you. I should have done so sooner."

Vee was willing to adapt, that was good. Determination was good, but if you couldn't bend then you would just break. To beat the tide you couldn't force your way through.

The candidate's second question gave the young mind pause. Iridescent was quiet for a long moment. They had promised to be honest and honest they would be. Truthfully, Iridescent did not know yet. Iridescent had thought that they would know it when they felt it, that when the person for them touched their shell there would be a sudden spark and they would know, but that had not happened. If Iridescent thought about it they would need someone who understood that sometimes you had to do things you might not like to get where you want to go. Iridescent could not abide the idea of being stuck with someone who would insist that they always followed the rules even when it held them back.

Independent thought then perhaps? Someone with will of their own, not just an ovine that wandered along with the flock and cowered from the driving canine.

Vee smoothed her hands down the beautiful shell, a smirk pulling her mouth up at one corner. She was grateful that Iridescent had answered her like it had promised, and she was impressed by the fact that one so young could already be so subtle. Subtlety had never been her strong suit but that didn't mean she didn't appreciate it in others.

"Any parting thoughts?" she murmured softly.

Iridescent looked at Vee and the feeling of a smile to match her own drifted through the glow. Perhaps that was what they wanted. This had been a pleasant exchange. It was enjoyable to meet a mind so sharp as to challenge them. Iridescent hoped that Vee found what she was looking for and was able to get to where she wanted.

The warm glow uncoiled from the candidate and began to drift away. Good luck, Vee, and farewell. For now.

"Good luck to you too," Vee replied, and as the egg withdrew from her she pulled back as well and straightened up. This was definitely a meeting she needed to think a bit about so that her head was clear for the next egg, and so with a half bow to gold and rider she turned and headed for the exist from the sands.

The dampness and sadness that Joscelin prepared himself for rushed in as readily as before, along with a renewed rush of wailing. Oh, Joscelin, you came back! You're still okay! The young mind brimmed with the things that could have befallen the candidate in the past day. Cave ins! Food poisoning! Venomous tunnelsnakes! It was unclear exactly where the young mind had managed to amass this repertoire of dangerous scenarios, but it was certainly extensive.

The egg paused for a moment at this new information. You did? Oh. Lamenting seemed to snuffle for a moment. Well, that was good. Hopefully they responded to you soon and you found out that they were alright. Lamenting still thought that Joscelin should go home to see for himself though.

"Oohh, young one, my day has been rather boring, really," Joscelin soothed, between amusement since most of those were statistically unlikely, but also the admittance that venomous tunnel snakes were indeed scary and not something he would like to meet. "I had classes, and wrote my letters, and fixed a button that came off a shirt. Certainly nothing dangerous." He gently pet the egg.

"I'm hoping so too. But I can't go home any time soon. I don't want to miss you meeting the world. After, maybe I can see about my family coming here for a little bit, or going over to see them." It was all going to depend on what happened when the clutch hatched.

Hm, well, that was good then. Joscelin really should make the effort to stay out of danger. The young mind listened to his mundane daily activities and their wailing slowly subsided into a quiet sniffling. Lamenting didn't like the idea of Joscelin being so far away from his family, they would be heartbroken if they had to stay away from their family the way that he had to, but he seemed so persistent to do so. They just hoped that his family would come and visit him if he couldn't go and stay with them. Then again that brought another long list of accidents and things that could go wrong. It would be a long journey after all.

"It is a long journey, but my sister would say all journeys make you a better person, because it is a way for you to learn." Joscelin nodded. "It has been hard being away from them but I choose to come here to help protect them and all the people of Telgar and all of Pern."

"And maybe to see more styles of clothing and different stitching patterns and styles because I find it soothing. And maybe to see different things." Not to touch them without learning about them first. But he could sketch them without worry that they were poisonous.

Lamenting wasn't so fond of that idea. It all sounded very dangerous. They didn't like dangerous. They much preferred quiet and familiar environments. Lamenting wasn't really the type to be a hero. They weren't the daring deeds sort. Not even a little bit.

Joscelin's desire to travel elicited the feel of a firm headshake. Not for Lamenting. No, no, no, thank you. They liked it here just fine. Joscelin's assertion he wouldn't touch things did little to console the snuffling dragon. No, travelling sounded far too dangerous for Lamenting's taste. They did hope Joscelin didn't do anything foolish whilst out and about in the world.

"I don't think I'm the type either," Joscelin admitted, slowly stroking. "And well, traveling isn't the fun part. Traveling involves long lists so you remember to bring everything and it always seems that you forget something important. And it can be dusty, and boring, and sore." He wrinkled his nose in remembrance. "But usually the destination is worth it... though sometimes it is not." Not always.

"I'll try and see you later. Try to have a good day." He said and stood, giving a bow to the queen and rider before leaving the sands, thinking over the visit.

Hello! Was Lightning's deafening greeting as Zeeana ran her hand across their shell. The pressure flooded into the candidate, the electricity crackling over her skin and racing through her bones. Who were you? Lightning rushed forward, their presence crowding the candidate's mind as they pushed their way in, pressure pushing on Zeeana's mind with the young mind's enthusiasm. What did you want to achieve? Where did you want to go? Did you have something to prove? A mark to make?

Wow. This egg was certainly enthusiastic, and the feeling that rushed through Zee made her feel both exhilarated and a little awed. They were full of questions, and for a moment, she wasn't quite sure how to answer.

She didn't know. She hadn't really thought that far ahead.

"I will think about this," she answered. "I'm sorry I don't have answers for you now." She stood up, and then left the sands. The eggs she had touched had given her a lot to think about, things to ponder.

Where did she want to go in life? What did she want to do? She probably needed to figure that out, but then, wouldn't it be better to wait? If she found herself with a dragon partner, it wouldn't matter what she had wanted to do. There would be different goals then, one that they both would agree on.

She'd just have to see.
