"Maybe I'll place a bet. It's totally a personality kind of thing." He eyed Melvin for a moment, and said, "Boxers, right?"
"Sun bets tend to be more along the lines of how many times consecutively someone can run a training course without falling over. Less - ah - intellectual." He grinned.

He stared back. "Boxer briefs." He then took a step back to look him over, not that this was the first time such a thought topic had popped in his head. "Briefs?"
He took another sip of his coffee before leaning back on the counter. "We have those. More - how many tentacles might sprout off of something or what body part is going to shrink three times and have the skin turn invisible. It's worse when you eat or drink something you think is safe and suddenly you have 3 techs around you and know that there is a bet going on." He held the cup in his hands again.
"A safe place to drink coffee would be nice to have on this island."

"Half right, then. Also boxer briefs," he answered. "Practical for my activity levels."
"That's why I never use the vending machines in the lab when I'm down there," he laughed. "I mean, on one hand, the machine stuff is prepackaged, but on the other, tentacles. It'd be nice to have coffee that I knew was safe somewhere besides my room. The cafeteria coffee doesn't count. That stuff's barely coffee."

"It at least keeps me in business. I runic a LOT of coffee makers, espresso machines, and keurigs. I think I've seen every model out there." He said finishing off his mug of coffee.
"Cigarettes, alcohol, and coffee. It's like the top tier bartering staples we have here. Well, only because condoms are freely given in the Infirmary." He finished his coffee and felt slightly better for it. Without missing a beat, he went to the sink to clean the mug, taking off his gloves to do so.

"I probably should've come to you to get mine done. Maybe you wouldn't have gouged me as much on the price," Jordan said, but he didn't sound incredibly upset about it. It was a part of life on the island; if you wanted a special service done, you paid the price asked.
"Anyone who found a way to set up a convenience store would make bank." Jordan turned to see what Melvin was doing, and protested, "Hey, I can get that for you."

Melvin paused as he tucked the gloves into his pocket. "I don't mind." He said, seeming in no way inconvenienced by the action. "I actually used to do it all the time in the shared kitchens. It's relaxing."

"If you're sure," Jordan said. "Just, you know. Don't feel like you're obliged to do that. I'm a decent housekeeper, or so I like to think, anyway." He turned around to pour himself a second cup of coffee.

He started to run the water. "And don't take offense when I clean. It's what I like to do. I find it calming." He warned him. "...but you keep a very tidy ship here. I'd actually have to nit-pick here to do that." He joked and went to washing his cup.
It seemed for now, things would be just fine between them.
