Kailey O'Carroll - Competing

She was making ok time and alright on her speed as she entered into the next area, laughing a bit at all the gumdrop displays and decorations. Ok that was cute. The "Milky Way," less so, when she realized that it'd require having to jump onto some of the gumdrops to get across.

Really? Oh she was going to be angry if she fell in...

And. Well. She nearly did. Kailey yelped as she slid on one of the gumdrops, scrambling to stay up and not drop down into the water. She managed--sort of--but her time was heavily beaten by it. Meaning that with a few extra grumbles, she finally got across the area and into the next. Yeah this was fun...

Jericho Cross - Competing

His speed slowed down quite a bit as he entered into the gumdrop area, trying to conserve some of his stamina--he hoped--for a bit further into the race. He gave a snort at the decorations around them, and seeing the new obstacle... well, he was surprised they weren't expected to just run through the water.

Still, he went slow across the gumdrops, unsure of his footing otherwise and not interested in making a tumble into the water. Yeah, wasn't his best speed, but considering he made it across with little issue aside a slight hiccup with the bouncy material of the gumdrops, not bad.

{ 4 . 3 }

Cassie Finlay - Competing

Yep. She was already regretting her burst of speed at first. Crap... Cassie grumbled, feeling her cheeks burn at the embarrassment of it all, but kept forcing herself to continue on. At least the next area was also super cute, and she smiled a bit through the huffs and puffs of her breath.

At the water crossing, she'd hesitated a bit, unsure about how to best make it across the um... gumdrops. So she went pretty slow, all things considered, but it wasn't... well, it wasn't as bad as she thought it'd be! Actually she seemed to make up a bit for her lack of speed with it, since she didn't really slip while crossing, so there was that!

Alerana Ikaros

After far longer than she liked, Rana made it through the Peppermint Forest. While she wasn't at the back of the group, she'd definitely fallen behind, so she tried to hurry and make up for lost time.

Turned out the next obstacle also had a candy theme. (Were they playing life-size Candyland out here, or what?) In a stream that had been tinted white somehow, there were giant gumdrops arranged like stepping stones. She was less confident in her ability to balance on them than she was in her climbing skills, not to mention she didn't want to slip and end up in the stream when they were out running in the cold, so she slowed way down as she approached the stream.

It turned out the caution was a good idea. As soon as she stepped on the things, she found they were a little bit springy, like walking on a rubber ball. They were kind of slick too, more like Dots gumdrops than the sugar-coated Spice Drops. Her foot slipped a little once or twice, but she placed her feet carefully and was able to manage the crossing easily enough. Soon she was on the other side and running for the next obstacle.

Gigi Gennaro (competing)

Gigi picked her way through the peppermint-strewn path, the Run becoming considerably more of a Walk as she struggled to keep her clothing clear of further obstacles. At least her leggings were stretchy, and her flat boots had a decent grip, even if running was not what they were designed for. By the time she’d emerged from the trees into Gumdrop Way, she’d got a little bit of a rhythm going, and was slowly starting to catch up with some of the slower runners. She’d always kind of liked long-distance, even if sprint was not her thing.

The cutely signposted river gave her some pause, especially when she got close enough to see that the white tint was not bubbles but actually some kind of dye. Hopefully an environmentally-friendly one, she thought. She did not want her clothes dipped in that.

Tentatively, she pressed her toe against the nearest gumdrop, feeling out the slippery surface, which gave like an inflatable bouncy castle under her weight, but seemed to have just enough support, if she was careful. Moving slowly, she shifted her full weight onto the stepping stone, one foot and then the other. She centred herself against the wobbling, arms outstretched, and once she felt stable, she hopped carefully to the next. It wasn’t that hard, and she made most of the jumps easily.

The last gumdrop was almost too far for her legs to reach, and she wavered awkwardly with one toe tip on the new stone while her other foot slid dangerously on the old - one jump from the shore and on the edge of doing the splits into the milk river. Biting her lip, Gigi pushed off with her back foot for a long leap forward, mercifully landing on the shore, safe and dry.

Kirra Morrow (competing)

Short- legs-! Not- Fair-! Kirra's thoughts fell naturally into the pattern of her pounding shoes, her puffing breaths, as she struggled to catch up with all the adults and bigger kids that were leading the race. If she didn't hop to, there wouldn't be any gingerbread left for her, and it would be terrible and she'd be so hungry that she'd cry! It was kind of making her cry just to think about it. She hadn't expected the race to be this hard!

At last the scent of peppermint faded behind her, and a new magical landscape opened up, huge lollies lying around like rocks. And the river was all strange and white. Oh, like the chocolate bar, she realised, seeing the sign. But there was no way across.

Kirra jogged to a halt at the edge, leaning over to examine the river and its props. Other people were running over the gumdrops, though some had fallen in. It was just like a platform game! Awesome!

Backing up to give herself a decent run-up, Kirra launched herself at the obstacle, letting speed and disregard for splashes give her jumping range that her short legs should have lacked. Boing, boing, boing! She was across in no time! So fun! If it wasn't for the gingerbread, she'd have gone straight back to do it again.

Jocelin - Competing

The end of the Peppermint Forrest was a blessing since she was finally out of that terrible smell. It wasn't bad in small doses but there was way too much of it for her wanting to be running through it forever. In the small gap between courses she thought she'd be okay, oh boy how wrong she was.

The Gumdrop way seemed like it would be easy. The decorations were cute, it didn't smell like anything, and it was pretty.

Until she hit the river. Watching those in front of her make their way across she tried to figure out how to do it and eventually decided the best way was going to be just going for it.

That might have worked.

But peppermint.

While making her way across, trying not to slip off the damn bouncy drops, she sneezed. One foot landed on a gumdrop and the other missed completely. Thanks to the bounce and the slippery surface she ended up on her a** in the river.

"Oh for ******** sake." She shook her hands off as she pulled herself up. "Now i'm going to be wet the entire time." her leggings might dry fast but there was no helping her shirt or the number tag they'd given her at the start of the race. She'd be lucky if anyone could read it at the end given that it was already starting to bleed a bit.

Shaking herself off as best she could she decided to screw the gumdrops and waded the rest of the way across the river. Sure it was a cute idea but not when everyone was going to have to run wet.

"There should have been a warning label on the race."

Jeremy

Jeremy was here for a run, not a swim. He paused when he reached the river's edge an eyed the gumdrops--the water. He wasn't going to fall in. In this weather? He'd have caught his death if he had to finish this race drenched.

He was fast, but careful, jumping from one to another. He just wanted to get to the other side, to solid ground, so he could get back to what he signed up for.

Myles

Myles seemed more enthusiastic about the Gumdrops than his brother; he didn't even think about falling in or how likely he was to get sick afterwards. He just saw them and wanted to jump on them.

Thankfully, he didn't forget that he was still in a race here; he bounced over the gumdrops, grateful for his long legs. Even if his balance wasn't the best, he still managed to make it across the river without any incident

It seems this obstacle was more than Aura could handle as she fell off the very first drop right into the milky river.

You would think she would be good at bounding from point to point would be a skill she was perfectly prepared for. She was on the track and field team at her school. She was the best at jumping events.

Perhaps that was it.

Too much confidence.

Tom Wolf - Competing
Tom was running at a good pace, and finally made it through the Peppermint Forest. The whole course was pretty nice looking, and he wished he could pay more attention to it instead of having to run through the whole thing at top speed. Perhaps they would have it available for touring later?

He made it into the next part of the course and was looking at the river for a bit before stopping and looking to see what he could do. It looked like he could possibly swim across it, but would it be worth it? He didn't think so, and it looked like the gumdrops were there for a reason. Unfortunately it looked like they weren't very good as things to hop on, but he had no choice and carefully made his way across, making sure he had his balance before hopping to the next one, and eventually he made it to the other side.

Jason Wolf - Competing
Jason was barely making it through, and had to stop a bit as he came out of the Peppermint forest. Determined to go faster, he rushed up towards the stream and also spotted the gumdrops. Unfortunately, as the first leg of the race had shown, today was not his day to compete, and he wasn't as fast as he wanted to be when crossing the gumdrops. He also lost his balance a couple of times, accidentally sticking one of his feet into the stream, which made it harder to cross the rest of them. However he was eventually able to do so.

He would have to go and really stretch out after this. He was probably using his muscles in ways they weren't used to, even with regular exercise.

Alexandria Anne Abson - Spectating

"Charity's certainly a good reason!" She kept an eye on the race as it progressed, smile on her face. "I've got a kid in there, but I know she's not in it to win. As cliche as it sounds, she is doing it for the kids. I'd be down there with her, but my body just isn't with it today." Alex sighed, shrugging. "Not counting my bias towards my kid, I do rather hope the older gentleman wins, too. Remind folks that those of us who're older aren't necessarily out of shape."

Albert Wiley - competing
Watching his daughter pass him in the forest, Albert couldn't help but smile - good, his baby was starting to perk up a bit. And maybe she was treating it like her... ah.... second job to do so, knowing her, but even if she was it would probably be helpful. Now if only she would start enjoying herself again and be happy, instead of being so sad and in her room all the time. Leaving the peppermint forest behind, Albert kept up his pace as he entered... well, that was a lot of gumdrops. And he was going to have to cross a stream using them?

Well, it was simply time to prove he wasn't as old as Joseph kept teasing him about. Moving carefully but steadily, he jumped from one gumdrop to the next - he did slip a little on his second jump, but he never quite fell in, so on he ran. This was... actually rather fun, for a race. And to think he had mostly been in it for the cookies! ---- Ah. Helping the children. Truly.

Joseph Ross - competing
Foot races, Joseph decided, were definitely not his thing. Either that or all of his luck had run out somewhere around... the starting line. He had slowed down when reaching the gumdrop filled section of the racetrack, not wanting to use up all of his stamina just yet. And when he had seen the river, with its stepping stones...

He had tried to take his time and be careful, just to avoid slipping. He had tried. Unfortunately, trying hadn't saved him, and he slipped halfway across and was now soaking wet from the knees down. Grumbling, he started off again, making a face at having to run in wet shoes in the middle of December. Really, couldn't they have thought of an obstacle that was a little less.... squishy?

Cara Stauss - competing

The peppermint forest had been annoying, but this area was... kind of pretty. Cara dropped her speed a little, both to try and take in the sights and make sure she wasn't going to end up collapsed from exhaustion partway through the run, and took her time getting through the course. When she saw the stream (how had they dyed it white? Was that even safe?) and the gumdrop path, she grinned and decided to hell with it, she was going to cross this however fast she wanted.

With a nearly-literal spring in her step, she jumped from gumdrop to gumdrop, finding herself giggling with delight by the time she had finished crossing it. She almost wanted to double back and do it again, but this was a race, and she didn't want to place dead last because she was doing something stupid like playing on the gumdrop stepping stones.

.... If it was still there for a little while after the race, however, she would have to come back to bounce across it a few more times.

1 + 1 + 6 = 8!

OK, so, the damned gumdrops were a problem, and rushing the forest wasn't wise, the younger Wiley stopping and sighing. She tested them carefully, before beginning to carefully jump, gumdrop to grumdrop. It was highly annoying, really -- they were squishy and sort of tricky to cross, and Emily nearly fell herself. Regardless, gumdrops were not okay. At all.

Quote:

Allison maintained her jog approaching the gumdrops. Noting having to cross rough terrain didn't really bother her though -- instead simply hopping point to point carefully. The race was rather fun, after all, and Allison hummed a bit. Easy and steady, steady and easy, and she'd have delicious cookies after, and maybe go chat with Cara more too.

Pat O'Ryan - Picking up speed, YAY

Pat finally scrambled out of that damnable forest, scrubbing his face clear of the tears with his sleeve and truly started to run as fast as he could. He had time to make up and was determined to at least put on a good showing. He powered through the Gumdrop part of the course, barely pausing at the bridge as he bounced across the 'candy' stepping stones. The redhead silently wondered how the course decorators made them since they were pretty realistic with the squishiness and everything. They really had put everything in making this course as accurate as possible, even down to turning the typically clear stream white.

As Pat safely crossed the white water he gave a brief thanks to whoever was watching over him that he hadn't taken a tumble into that cold looking water. A summer race it wouldn't have been a big deal but in winter? No thank you.

He dropped back down to a fast jog as he made his way to the next course since he made up some of the time he had lost before. I wonder what's next? Old movies and shows was his thing, not old games. Pat had no idea what to expect.

Galya - Competing

Galya couldn't believe the amount of work put into the legs of the race. The peppermint forest was slowly being left behind, though she still faintly smelled of peppermint. Which wasn't a bad thing in her opinion, though her twin might have scoffed against it. Galya knew how much Dasha hated peppermint.

However, her thoughts were pulled away when she started noticing . . . gumdrops!? "Man what did they spend on this?" She wondered as she paused at the river. She had to cross these? After her luck with the peppermints Galya wasn't sure she really wanted to try this too. However, she couldn't chicken out now.

She tested the first bouncy gumdrop. Satisfied with the fact it didn't feel that bad, Galya laughed and bounced her way across the stream. It was almost like she was tigger, the bouncy tiger who liked to bounce on his tail. "Okay creativity points to whoever came up with this. That was the best~." She crooned as she reached the other end without trouble, though she paused she kind of wanted to go back but she knew better. There were probably still some stragglers.

Zoya + Kata - Spectating

Zoya had lost sight of Galya in the binoculars for a little bit until the girl finally came out of the peppermint forest and was headed into a stretch called gumdrop way. "Oh I wonder if that's really real gumdrops." the child asked her sister looking up at Kata.

Kata stopped as she was watching Galya before she mad it to where the group had to cross the stream. "Well, to be honest I don't think they've got that kind of money. I know if I was running a charity event I wouldn't pay for all of that."

There was a soft pout as her sister dashed her dreams; however the youngest started watching Galya again, "Woohooooo~! Go Galya go!" She cheered as the oldest of the three bounced across the river with ease. "That looks like fun Kata! I want to do that!"

Kata just sighed as she watched Galya successfully cross the river with little problem. It did look fun but she didn't want to encourage the younger girl with the silly notion they might be able to go play on the course after the racers were done.

Okay, so the giant gumdrops were pretty cool, and so was the dyed stream. Peter let out a small laugh of amusement as he continued along the path. Unfortunately with no bridge it was only reasonable to try and jump the stream. Naturally, Peter found himself stuck in the liquid and let out a groan of displeasure.
