"... ah, but I had an entire narrative for this costume. Who is to say I am not the frog prince that hasn't been transformed back already?" His lips twitch in amusement. "Certainly feels like there is a story to everything here, including the need for a tithe."

jeremiah mercer || 27/27 || now a rogue bullfrog fallen prince (but with an extra mask) This time it was both eyebrows arched but Jeremiah took the gilded bullfrog mask all the same. "... and so it seems I find myself the frog prince once more," he let out a huff of laughter as he slid off his own mask and hung it on his side, the bullfrog one slid in place. "Better?" Jeremiah's lips still twitched with amusement, taking everything in stride. "Though I do wish to know about your mask." It was one of the more unique ones at the ball that he had seen.

jeremiah mercer || 27/27 || is a bullfrog Jeremiah fingered the mask he had taken off before he was adjusting broken crown on his head. "I suppose. Though I am not used to wearing a real mask and not just a metaphorical one." His gaze flicked back over to the other room occupant and away quickly. With the way that she looked to him, it was best. Jeremiah's head would spin. "I don't suppose you know the young lady with the bird's nest, do you?"

algernon mercer || 25/25 || feeling concerned Alg, who had been standing beside his husband after delivering the food to the gentleman, had been and remained quiet for now. Mostly because the person in front of him had said he was Sunny's parent. He only knew one detail of her parentage... Alg stiffened with the assumed revelation.

jeremiah mercer || 27/27 || very concerned about who he is talking to His daughter? That- Jeremiah suddenly had an idea of just who was underneath the mask. There was a quick look to Algie but his focus shifted back. There were two possibilities for the identity of the man before him. "There was a time we might have been friends but it's passed." He was mindful of his words. "This time at least." Jeremiah tilted his head, studying the man and taking in his entire demeanor. There was nothing that set him off, that said danger. Yet, at least. "Do you know why someone must be tithed? It's spoken of so much but I've yet to hear why it's required."

"On͡e͞ ̶m͠us̸t̕ ͞ęn͏jo͠ỳ t̡he ̵simp͘ļe t̵h͞i̧ng̷s̀,̸ ̢you ̶know?͡ " he asks rhetorically. "T͞he͏ t͘i̕t͠he̢ is a͟ ̷b̴asic̛ pŕo͜c͢ess̕ o͡f ͠ou̡r ̕w̡o͞r̛l͘d͏," he explains. "No," he said slowly, thoughts forming together, "but if that is the case, then why would Adoelle offer herself as the tithe? Considering that she is the Crown and that would mean the cage is closer to falling." You shattered the sword and the crown will follow. The cycle demands it. The words of his own doppelganger lingered in his mind. The path was there but- Glowing eyes glanced once more towards Sunny and then quickly away.

It's a habit because part of him wants to talk with but the other part of him has no interest in possibly triggering an episode. "You're proud of her," he says finally, after a moment because he's seen the way the man looks at Sunny. A proud parent. He imagines that he has looked at Zac the same way. "... and you should be, she is something." His head tilts to the side. algernon mercer || 25/25 || conversating Alg gave his husband's hand a squeeze, following their eyes to Sunny a moment before he glanced back. Fatherhood was a path he'd not taken, meant in the most literal of terms. When Jeremiah stepped away, Alg seemed to have been ready to inquire on his own. He smiled, as always polite, and introduced himself with a hand extended in greeting, "Algernon Mercer, we haven't been formally introduced." He'd gotten him food without much conversation. There was a lot to think about, pieces he'd been trying to put together, but was unsure even if they should or shouldn't let the tithe be taken. "What is your personal investment in the tithe?"
