"It's part of the allure of flowers, of making a bouquet yourself or helping pick out the flowers." Jeremiah laughed a little. "To be honest, Algie was upset with me at one point and I put one together that was for forgiveness and admiration." His lips twitched.
"Love as well but that's a given." Then his eyes cut towards Chris. "Though I wonder if I should asking if you've got someone special with you asking about crushes." Now he was clearly up to mischief and teasing.
It softened to a nod. "Myself as well. I certainly would not be where I am, with who I am with, or the man that is worthy of Alg if ... I was any less or something was different."

"As for stomaching it- scorched throat and sinuses does wonders for your ability to taste and smell things. Though I can barely stomach the smell of smoke or certain cooked things." He watched the young man a moment, fingers rubbing along his thighs for a moment. This was a warm spot in the sun, though eventually it would fade with the hour. "There's little that might be helpful to you but I can tell you at least one thing that you should keep in mind." ... but he would wait for Chris to come back to tell him. aftermath"As well as one can expect after everything that's happened," Jeremiah replied, following Chris to the kitchen and leaning against the back of the couch. It was a familiar position, though he had been waiting for Thorne to finish making tea instead. "I've gone back to work finally, the school year is gearing up-" Which meant both Alg and himself were busy and that always helped. "How are you doing, Chris?" There was some level of worry, though less now because the young man was with Thorne. ... even if he wasn't with Thorne (but they were totally gay for eachother).

"Yeah," Chris agreed quietly, "I'm glad you told me. I mean, it's a lot to think of but.. well. It's helpful. The good kind of info even I can work with."
His mouth quirked into a lopsided smile.
"Hopefully I'll think long enough before I do," He said.

"Of course you made him a bouquet," Chris grinned, looking at Jer. "What exactly did you do that required a bouquet as your apology? Does it have to do with your hoodlum days?"
The ever present question of information that Chris (and Thorne) were always trying to get out of Jer. He probably wouldn't get anything but it was always nice to tease.
Chris laughed a little, the flower still turning in his hand. "No, I don't. It's just a thought that came to mind, since there were flowers for love, what about almost love? To be honest, I'm not really sure about dating anyone. At least, not right now."
"You make a good pair," He says quietly, idly. There's some longing there, but not necessarily jealous. Just thoughtful.

Chris gathered the cup gracefully, quirking an eyebrow at Jer. "Well, I'm going to count you off as lucky in one aspect and not in the others. You really had a number done on you," He said, his voice going quiet. Upset again.
"Okay," Chris said, wandering into the kitchen. He wanted his tea first and he made quick work of it, pouring cups and fixing it to liking. He was back on the porch in no time, handing Jer's cup off to him and settling in with his own tea. Another pet to Hellbine.
"What is it?"

"That's good," Chris replied honestly, glad to hear it. He looked at Jer and smiled, feeling happy. Comfortable.
"I don't.. I don't think I'm going to do this semester. School, or teaching. Poe will cry of joy, I'm sure," He said wryly, but felt weak admitting it. Felt like he was admitting he wasn't doing well. It burned on his lips.
"I'm-" He didn't know what to say. He wasn't okay, most definitely wasn't okay. "trying," He finally settled on. Figured Jer would know. Knew that Jer wouldn't judge him for feeling so bad about everything.

"Honestly I'm not the one that punches first and then asks questions, that is Algie on the occasion, but there are certain things that can prompt me." Chris's shoulder was given a squeeze before he was pushing himself up to stand. "Come on, you can practice keeping the rain off both of us while I find us a way out." His head tilted towards the street and the rest of other ashdown. Somewhere there was a path home and they'd find it. Quote: this one can be wrapped unless you got something else!

Jeremiah laughed, amused that Chris (and Thorne) were always fishing about that time frame. "From then? No. We were a bit thick in that regard. I thought he did not return my feelings and Alg thought I could not like him that way." He frowned briefly. "Besides that? It was a different time and not ... as accepted as it is now."
Did he just carefully navigate around having to say why he gave him a bouquet? Absolutely.
"Love tends to sneak up on you without you realizing it." Chris was treated to a rare sight: Jeremiah smiling. Not a full smile but that small, pleased one that he got when he thought about Algie. "Alg and I certainly did not think what we have now was even possible." He chuckles. "... and there's been bumps in the road but as long as he is with me, as long as I can make him happy? That is good enough."

Jeremiah took his cup with a small word of thanks and then took a drink of it. The licorice root tea truly did soothe his throat and make things a little easier when it came to talking.
"Have you formally met Sunny?" he asked quietly. The look he was giving Chris implied that this was related to what he was going to tell him.

aftermath"You are talking to the man that may, at some point, have to consider an early retirement because of what we are part of." Jeremiah said gently to him. He understood. "... never mind the amount of time I had to take off because of what happened to my mind." Both times. He watched Chris a moment before he let out a huff of breath. The detective lieutenant crossed the distance and, fingers brushing against the younger man's shoulder briefly, pulled him into a hug. "To be fair," he said after he was letting him go, letting him free of the hug, "you've been owed that since the ball."

"Hm," Chris said at first, clearly displeased he wasn't getting the information he wanted. Bribery of Thorne with information would be a power he'd love to have, especially for more cupcakes. "Reminds me of how old you guys are, what with you both running around everywhere you seem so much younger." His tease was light, gentle, easing from the topic. That could be a talk for another day, much later on.
"Well, who knows what the future holds," Chris said, pleased to see Jeremiah smiling. A sweet smile, something that Chris treasured seeing. "A love like yours is honestly a dream," Chris admitted, "It gives me some hope I'll find it when I go looking for love."

Chris frowned at the question, thinking for a second as he sipped his own tea.
"Once, I think. I made a deal with her to get into Other Ashdown. I've texted her a little since then but.. nothing else," Chris said.

"You might rest? Color me shocked," Chris joked weakly, but it died a little coming out. "It feels like I shouldn't."
Jer was someone he was always comfortable admitting things to, in the end.
He jerked at the hug but then returned it in earnest, taking comfort from it. "Thank you," He replied, feeling a little better. "Better late than never, right?"

runaway"Watch it, Watts." Jeremiah flicked a bit of dirt at Chris. It did not miss which was the tip of his nose. "Neither one of us are even fifty yet." Then he was shaking his head, pushing himself up to his feet and gathering things up. "I'm sure it'll find you, not the other way around." Moving was a good way to cover up the fact there was, of all things, a faint ruddy red to his cheeks. That comment Chris made? Exactly the kind of thing that would make him flush.
