Odette's attention drifted through the crowd, finally falling on the eyes of Opimus Fellah. The redblood seemed positively entranced by her, and she couldn't help but feel charmed back in turn. A rugged farmer fascinated by a refined celebrity, both with the same blood yet living in two different worlds. It was poetic, really.

She winked at him, waving with her fingertips. With a small laugh, she moved to return to her chair. "Little jadeblood, I'd love to sign my autograph for you," She answered Amonee, more than excited at the opportunity.

"Oh!" She said, turning her attention back to Caiden. "I've got something special for you, dear," plucking the carefully presented gift from her seat. Crouching down to his level, she presented the ribbon wrapped t-shirt to the boy. "A gift from me to you," she punctuated, smiling bright.

Odette's performance had blown Nucleo's mind yesterday. She was so dazzling and made him feel like there was still so much he didn't know. The grace she held herself with was really beautiful and she was so nice! He knew he was still a little young so it made him feel really happy that she was nice even to kids like him.

He'd been so amazed by her display that it'd made him lose the confidence to show her his ability but that was why he'd come back today! But first he'd move his piece on the board game.

"You flee from the ambush – in order to save herself, Vremea betrays you and leaves you behind." Nucleo frowned as he read the latest chapter of Odette's life that he'd uncovered. it was horrible and made him feel ill to even think about. To Nucleo, friends and connections were everything. To be betrayed by someone that close to her had to have been devastating. What would he do if Amonee or Xavier betrayed him? There was only one set of trolls he knew that would never do such a thing but it was hard to think about. Still, that very set of trolls was exactly what he'd been planning to show Odette today.

"It's me again. Sorry I didn't manage to finish talking with you yesterday." The greenblood apologized, struggling to talk to the glamorous star in her seat. Even though they'd met twice now it was still amazing to see the real her.

"I was hoping that I could get your autograph. Or rather... we." Taking a deep breath he pulled energy from his core and began to channel it. A puff of green smoke and suddenly a second Nucleo appeared! Completely identical, a perfect clone.

"I-if that's okay, I mean. I don't know if there's a limit on how many per troll." The boy realized, flustered.

      [+] Kursha Vidari

In the centre of the midway Kursha stood stock still, paralysed by disbelief, bewilderment, and no small amount of rage.

Of all the...

His teeth clenched and he felt a sudden pang in his side. Clenching his fists, he tried to keep his hands from shaking. How the ******** had he missed this? More importantly how long had it been going on? Where did she even get the gall...?

She should have been dead.

Kursha snapped. Visibly. Unslinging the rifle from his back, Kursha donned a grin he had not worn since the ambush in the caverns, full of violent intent and barely restrained rage. He loaded as he walked, fingers fitting cartridges into the chamber automatically. His pupils shifted into crosshairs of their own accord. Pushing past the small crowd that had gathered, he made his way to the front of the booth.

“Well, if it isn't Odette Cygnet.”

Kursha spoke loud enough that he could be heard above the rabble. At last only a pair of young greenbloods blocked his path, and he nudged the trolls aside with the muzzle of the rifle. “Move. Or I'll move you,” he said, all the while never losing his smile. He never made eye contact with either of the greenbloods, his gaze locked instead on the redblooded idol. A moment's hesitation in response to the order would prove fatal however.

Once the way was clear, he closed the remaining distance. “Long time, no see,” he said to the redblood in a tone of voice that could have been considered friendly were he not pointing a rifle at her kneecaps. “It's kind of funny. I was under the impression that you were dead, and if not that then wanted for treason.” His smile tightened as he let that statement settle over the surrounding mob.

“So...” Kursha drawled. His finger itched against the trigger. “Are you coming quietly or do I need to plug you full of holes first?”

Fellah gulped, his eyes grew wide, did that celebrity lady just wave at him? He was still a little far removed from culture, but even the farm troll could get star struck.
Before the redblood could decide what to do, his teammate from the bowling game came over, and it didn't look like it was for an autograph.
"Oh geez, oh geez," he muttered under his breath as his feet started propelling him forward, before he even realized what he was doing. "Hey again Kursha!" he said friendly, trying to keep his anxieties out of his voice and only partially succeeding. "Now, I don't know exactly what's goin on, but this is Bloodfest, we should all be able to get along for a few nights, right?" Fellah had placed his hand on the greenbloods shoulder, trying to be make a kind gesture, while also trying to lower the muzzle of the gun with his other hand, cause holy heck there was a freaking rifle pointed at someone.
"Miss Odette here isn't doing nothin' but sign some pictures and talk. I'm sure we all got more fun things to do tonight than start some squabble, right? I mean you were darn good at bowling, you got tons of places to show off your skills instead of doing...this."

"That's fantastic, dearie!" Odette was in awe at the greenblood's powers, "I've never seen anything like it." She said, signing up two autographs for the boy and his clone. Spotting Kursha out of the corner of her eye, her eyes narrowed. She prepared for the worst.

Pushing herself up with her fingertips, Odette rose from her seat at the booth and walked swiftly towards Kursha, placing herself between him and Nucleo. Act or no act, she wasn't going to let a child get hurt because of her. "Kursha Vidari," she said smoothly, trying to disguise her distaste for him. "I'm guessing you haven't heard, I'm a reformed citizen now," She explained. "I wouldn't be at this crown-sanctioned event if I weren't, would I? Let alone signing autographs." She joked, expecting Kursha would be unresponsive to it. No, she had something better to say to him.

"You know, I was hoping I'd see you again. I've been meaning to thank you."

Aandes stayed still behind his counter, fingers creeping towards the small filing cabinet he'd brought with him. In it contained two very important weapons. He was glad, at least, that in his forethought he'd begun recording his personal events. Video cameras installed around the booth were sure to prove Odette's fame, charity, and now this man's folly. The leader of the ambush was certainly precocious. Aandes' lips drew tighter faintly.

This was a stress test for Odette. She could handle this. In the meantime, Aandes addressed the crowd.

"Everyone, stay calm. This is a simple misunderstanding." He exclaimed coolly. He gazed over to the children at the booth, wondering if their lives were in danger. If his life was in danger. His chilly exterior was the only thing hiding his racing bloodpusher.

(Upon your release from the Rehabilitation Center, you seek opportunities to make your late lusus proud and better Alternia)

He hadn't been expecting this.

Sweating in the middle of winter as a gun brushed past him, Nucleo felt fear wash over him. He'd finally gotten to meet his idol and now she was being threatened with a gun. While it was only aimed at her knees that was more than enough to cripple her and ruin her career. There was no way this was just a joke.

A taller troll stood up and started trying to speak to Kursha while Odette moved in front of him. It made him feel sick. There wasn't anything he could do but stand back and be 'protected' when the one who really needed it was her. While Nucleo was not aligned with the rebel causes (and didn't know about Odette's actual situation) he was a fan of her and it was horrible to have to stand back and do nothing. He didn't understand why Kursha was doing this nor if it was the kind of thing Elidae might support either. Just what did the two of them talk about while they were alone anyway?

He really didn't know anything.

It was a hard truth to swallow and he allowed himself to stand back away from the action. There was nothing he could do after all, he didn't want to die yet.

The second set of footsteps moved silently to Odette's side.

It was crazy how fast things changed. One moment, he was looking over an Odette T-shirt pondering the price, the next he was watching in horror as a greenblood marched up to the celebrity with a gun pointed at her. His stomach dropped and the boy tried not to panic. Were there drones around? Maybe they could calm things!

A strong looking farmboy stepped up to diffuse the situation. Amonee couldn't have been more grateful. At least until Kursha started hissing again. The situation seemed stuck in a standstill with both sides tense but unable to start firing shots yet. Odette handled it with grace but the jadeblood still couldn't help but fear for her safety. What did the greenblood want to hurt her for anyways? She was a success story. She'd come back to civilization away from the dangerous rebels. Why was he angry?

"Please don't hurt her!" The boy whimpered but he was too far from the action for it to make much of a difference. He grabbed at Nucleo's hand and wished for the best. Hopefully her winds could deflect anything from hitting her. She was kind of like a super hero in that way. She looked the part too, sitting there coolly as she faced danger in the face without even batting a perfectly mascara'd eyelash.

It was like being in a movie but in the worst way.

The moment Vremea heard the raspy voice, her entire body tensed, mouth opening slightly in shock. Vremea had just arrived, having already spun a number, eyes having read the small passage about her thrusting herself into her rebellion duties before Kursha arrived.

It was to be expected, of course-- Odette was out in the open, and she'd seen him as he passed around Bloodfest at times, hanging around near a very adorable booth that seemed completely different than his character. She'd need to visit it sometime, maybe to meet the actual booth owner-- But now, she had other worries. Like, somehow protecting her morail from potential death. At a peaceful event. Vremea clenched her teeth. Then she breathed, relaxed herself-- She was Bellen, she was Bellen, Bellen didn't know what was up between them. She did however, appreciate the redblood that stood between them and how levelheaded her morail stayed, the sight giving her the thought that she could handle it. No, she didn't just think she could-- She knew she could. Odette and Aandes were strong and smart. She'd learned a lot from her time with the greenblood, she was sure. Vremea forced herself to relax, reading the next passage she'd spun, not interrupted this time.

You flee from the ambush – in order to save herself, Vremea betrays you and leaves you behind.

A stab of shock stabbed through her pump biscuit, swallowing hard as her voice died in her throat. It was fake, of course, but just that thought made her get emotional. She inhaled, exhaled, inhaled once more and then managed to keep control of her emotions, even if only somewhat. She was still undercover. Vremea was a backstabbing snake in the grass betrayer, and she needed to play the part. Bellen glanced at the scene nearby once more, staying nearby in case of any actual altercations. If things got bad, she needed to play her part. They wouldn't be cut down after one conflict. They prepared themselves for this. They would not back down.

So Bellen stayed nearby and watched, anger pulsing through her. They could do this. She was sure of it.

      [+] Kursha Vidari

No sooner had Kursha finished speaking, than a familiar redblood pushed in front of him, obstructing Odette. It was the tall teenager from Sarcel's booth, who had volunteered to be his team's bowling ball. Kursha had nothing against the redblood personally. He seemed like a decent troll, and good for a laugh. In the moment he intervened however, he had made himself an obstacle, an enemy. He was way, way out of his depth.

At the touch of a hand on his shoulder, Kursha reacted instantaneously. The mask shattered and he let out a snarl. Jerking away, he swatted Fellah's hand aside. Don't touch me, he hissed in a low voice. That was his only warning. Next time, he would come away with a bloody nose.

Odette finally decided to step in, placing herself between himself and the young greenblood. Nothing the defensive manoeuvre, Kursha scoffed, half a smile returning. She was just as he remembered: simple-minded and weak of spirit. He had never met a troll so deluded before, none except for maybe Ganyma. It was a mystery how she managed to stay alive for as long as she had.

At Odette's words, Kursha let out a bark of laughter. “Ha! Reformed citizen, my a**. I'm not falling for it.” He jerked the rifle out of Fellah's grip. There was an audible click as his thumb flicked off the safety. “And you can save your thanks for when you're rotting in prison,” he spat.

Fellah was not a very combat savvy troll, that much had been proven in the past. However, Fellah had also never been in a situation where he was trying to act in defense of someone. For a while the redblood froze up, not sure how to respond, but as soon as Kursha raised the rifle and cocked it something took control of him.
Taking a firm stance directly in front of Kursha, the look on Fellah's face was very peculiar, very serious for the bumbling farm troll. "Kids, why don't you listen to the nice man behind the counter. Everything is okay, but why don't you come back later?" he addressed the young trolls, eyes still locked on Kursha, a weird mix of compassion and courage.
"Kursha, I'm sorry I touched you. I won't do it again. Really though, this woman is here with plenty of security and officals around. The queen is just a few rows away for gogsake. If she were a threat, something would have been done by now. And what if Lorata were here right now? What do you think she'd think? Do you really think she'd still call you a hero if you were hauled off for instigating at a crown sanctioned event? If you won't calm down for your own sake, for the rational reasons, think of the kid who looks up to you."
It was a surprisingly well worded argument for Fellah, definitely something he hadn't done before. It could very well be completely worthless, but at least he had it in him to stand his ground. A feat he probably hadn't even been aware of.

Half-standing and pressing the lock of his cabinet, Aandes stood in disbelief as the strange redblood spoke up. At first, he’d seemed like a quiet, typical chump… And now he was grandstanding? Ugh, the rebel self-righteousness disease must have done a number on the think-blots of the population. On the plus side, the redblood’s sudden courage eased the tension immensely. Now there was one particularly notable troll higher on the culling list than he. Aandes clicked open the cabinet, slipped something into his hands and pressed a button. With ease, he swooped around his counter. The redblooded fool may have taken the spotlight, but he was a master of chasing coattails and emerging victorious. He’d have to thank him later, if he was still alive.

Aandes produced a file and held it gingerly in front of him, tapping it with his fingers. “I’m sorry for the confusion, Commander Vidari, but you’ll find that all of Miss Cygnet’s paperwork checks out. I registered her in this event personally with all of her past involvements laid out in clear, legal, transparent writing. As her rehabilitation sponsor I’m proud to say she’s as fine a citizen as you turned out to be considering your similar reintegration on to the right side of Alternian law.”

      [+] Kursha Vidari

Throughout Fellah's speech, Kursha's face went through disgust, disbelief, and finally sardonic amusement. A long laugh bubbled out from his throat. Calm down? He needed to calm down? He was the only one present acting with the least bit of sense. Had everyone else lost their thinkpans?

“Look, buddy,” he said, voice extra sharp for emphasis. He took a step towards the redblood, grinning. The move forced him to look up to meet the taller troll's gaze, but Kursha intended to get right up in his face and make him as uncomfortable as possible. He continued, crosshair pupils dilating, “I am doing the rational thing here, but if you don't get out of my way, then I'm gonna have to act very irrationally. Capiche?” Unyielding, Kursha waited for the other troll to back down.

He never got the chance.

At that moment an unfamiliar greenblood came forward, papers in hand. As the new troll addressed him, Kursha pulled away from Fellah. After clicking the safety of the rifle back on, he moved his grip up to the barrel and rested the butt against the ground so that he could examine the documents. His eyes darted rapidly across the pages, expression unfathomable. As he thumbed through however, he felt a pit open up in his digestive cavity. His jaw clenched.

s**t.

s**t, s**t, s**t, s**t, s**t!

So that was it. She was playing the long game. Fine then. So could he. No one made a fool out of Kursha Vidari and no one beat him when it came to patience. In the end, he knew who would come out on top. Odette was not a problem. The implications of her presence were however.

As the second member of the Phoenix Initiative he had encountered that evening, he knew better than to hope it had been a bizarre coincidence. Who knew how many more were wandering about in disguise or supposedly redeemed? The idiots! If they couldn't die, they could at least do themselves a service and play dead. Supposing one of them slipped up and word got out... it would all be on him.

His body tensed and it took all his effort not to crumple the paper.

Paranoia that he thought banished since the gala returned with a vengeance. Everything he had been through since turning his back on the Phoenix Initiative would have been pointless. He would have gone to hell and back for absolutely nothing. No, worse than nothing. What should have been the means to his victory had instead become the seeds for the poison that would kill him. He felt like throwing up. Now wasn't the time though. Show them nothing, give them nothing.

His attention returned to the greenblood. Kursha had only been half listening during his explanation, but as he mulled over the greenblood's words, they doubled back and stung him. Had that last comment merely been an innocent remark, or a subtly-phrased insult? Eyes narrowed, Kursha studied the greenblood, trying to get a read on him. Nothing. Either the greenblood meant nothing by it after all, or he had one hell of a poker face.

Needless to say, Kursha trusted no one.

“Hm...” He gave the documents one last look over. It was more for show than anything else. “So you would be... Aandes LaMode?” he asked, looking at the greenblood. The crosshairs had faded from his eyes. “I guess I should be the one apologising.” He smiled, first at Aandes and then at Odette. Very deliberately he did no such thing.

“You don't mind if I take these, do you? Just to double check things.” he asked, fanning the documents. It was not really a request. “I'm sure you have a couple more copies laying around.” Though he did not emphasise his meaning, he did give Aandes a pointed look. As he did, he took special care to note all the greenblood's features, committing his face to memory. If Aandes thought he had Kursha beat then he had another thing coming.

“In any case, I don't want to disrupt things more than I already have, so I'll just head on out and let you smooth things over here.” Picking up the rifle, Kursha returned it to its sling. He glanced between Aandes, Odette, and finally Fellah. “I'll be seeing you around,” he said. Then, without further ado, he turned on his heel and left the same way he came.

If not for his life’s practice of staying calm and maintaining his many facades, Aandes would have broken. Kursha was truly intimidating. He was a live explosive at all times, and how he did so much damage to the rebellion was clear to him now. Damn you, Kursha Vidari.

“Of course, Commander. Once again, apologies for the misunderstanding here. Thank you for your service.”

His spine was taut and rigid. After what seemed sweeps, Kursha turned to leave. Finally, Aandes relaxed. A small smile grew on his still tight features and he exclaimed to the crowd. “My goodness! Didn’t expect to see that here, did we? That was a bit tense!”

He walked casually back to the booth, giving Fellah a warm pat on the shoulder as he did so. Aandes hit the button in his cabinet and closed it again. He sat back down. Nothing had happened. “We’re back open for business! I’d like to offer as an apology a coupon for half off of merchandise for you all today.”

Something, of course, had happened. Another liability. A dangerous murderer had his number. Aandes had fortified himself for stepping into the limelight, however. The little button broadcasting the event, and the cameras at his booth capturing it all. The headlines would be a task to formulate: “CHEQUERED MILITARY COMMANDER TERRORIZES CELEBRITY AT FESTIVAL”… “ODETTE CYGNET ACCOSTED, RISES ABOVE”… “ODETTE CYGNET: REDEEMED BUT STILL UNDER FIRE. BY WHO?”… “HE BRINGS A GUN TO BLOODFEST AND POINTS IT AT A STARLET’S HEAD. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT WILL SHOCK YOU.”

He had made an enemy, yes. But an enemy of Odette was now her loving public’s enemy. He’d broadcast her innocence. He’d broadcast Kursha’s questionable affiliations. Every interaction should have a receipt from now on. This was a long game he was playing in the public eye. As his bloodpusher returned to its normal rhythm, Aandes resolved to make himself into a social citadel. And also… Perhaps hire a body guard.
