For the first time since the House Cup had actually begun, Wrex was nervous. Terrified, almost, though he would never admit it. Singing was definitely not a talent of his; the closest Daggerbacks really had to it was impressive lung power for things like swimming in deep water, or growling the fiercest to be the most intimidating, things like that. Things that mattered. Singing? Singing was a waste of time.

And now it was going to be his downfall.

His claws clicked on the ground anxiously as they set up the coliseum, wondering if it would be best to just...not participate. Could he do that? It would be the same as being a coward, which was a big wound to his pride, but if it meant not bringing the collective down...Jack, he was tired of doing that. It was why he was here in the first place, he just knew it.

The shiver that went down his spine had nothing to do with the cold as he and the rest of the contenders made there way through the now snowy villa the elves had constructed. Wrex wrung his hands and whipped his tail in agitation, earning him a few dirty looks from those close by. Damn it, damn it, damn it...Tough it out! Be strong! Brute wasn't going to be letting this stop him, that was for sure. He gave his best glare to the elf handing him a folder, as if to say watch out world, he was here. And then he opened the folder to an even greater confusion.

Black spots and lines. Was this a...hint or something...? Wrex cocked his head and made a small noise in his throat. Okay. Whatever. Just go with it.

The elf before him was waiting. Pickin gout a random song, Wrex opened his mouth--and out came a strained sort of yelp that might have been a wolf's howl if it didn't sound so sour. The elf cringed and immediately shooed him away.

Damn it.

Okay, maybe a different song...But the reindeer that came next looked just as disgusted to listen. Wrex began to fret and snarled at the snowman that came next. She looked unimpressed, but apparently thought it was part of the improv of entertainment and allowed him a few marks for effort.

By the time he reached the polar bear, the boil was just ready to give up. Couldn't he just fight it to show himself capable? He almost did, but instead Wrex just muttered what words he could make out. Beth apparently found it catchy enough that she bounced along, cooing over his rough voice. but he wasn't cute damn it.

With just one song left, at least that wasn't a hassle anymore. Wrex listened to the people before him and managed an approximation, wondering how the hell anyone managed to get that from lines and dots on a piece of paper. But it worked at least! Dreidleman seemed proud of his accomplishment and gave him a happy wave as he received full marks. Weird end, but it was too late to really salvage his score.

Sighing, Wrex shuffled his feet through the snow and kicked it up in anger. At least it was over...What a mockery of competition, though, seriously. Could they make complaints? He'd shove all those music paper things up someone's a** if he could.

Well this turned into a fine day. Torsten was now going to sing?!? Nope. No no no no no. He...wasn't comfortable with that at all. He wasn't a singer...but then again not many were. Sighing he walked around. Flipping through the slips of paper. He came to the first tree and tilted his head at the song. The title read Silent Night...maybe that would be a good scary song. So, he sang...not too loud as there were a whole lot of people around, but loud enough. As he finished the song he walked onward...

The next tree had him flipping to a song called: Jingle Bell Rocks.

...What?

Whatever he sang the song with a tilted head. Finding a tempo to it he liked. As he finished that up he walked on. Next tree...an even odder song he trailed off in the middle of.

All I Want For Christmas Is You.

Okay. Yeah, no. He sang and for some reason kept seeing mellow in his head. So...he lost nerve halfway through and walked away blushing. Next song...and he went back to Silent Night...it was a interesting song to him.

Last tree. And he picked a song called: Holly Jolly Christmas...he finished up then left as fast as he could.

Aww yeah. Now this was what she was talking about: singing! If they were going to pull ahead of the ghosts in this competition, then now was the time, and now was definitely her spotlight. As the stadium was prepared, Piper drank some water, whipped out her eyePod, and began to do a few vocal runs, throwing some smirks across the way at other students. Goodbye, mediocre performances, hello winning. She hoped the boils were watching, because this one was gonna be for the team.

The snow was so fresh she couldn't help but crunch her way through it for a minute, psyching herself up for the competition. She stretched and turned her music off, taking a deep breath. "Alright, Pipes, this is your territory, show 'em what you're made of..." An elf handed her a folder full of sheet music, and Piper quickly glanced through each of them, smiling to herself. These songs were way easy! She totally had this in the bag.

Picking a path at random, she began to hum some of the melodies to herself to get an idea of what the songs were going to be like. So each one had a favorite song, huh...Guess it was all a matter of guessing, then. Hopefully her intuition and charm would see her through.

The first customer was a jolly looking elf, and Piper greeted her with a bright smile that could have set off mist as well as any hot breath. Clearing her throat, she began to slowly sing the Holly Jolly Christmas song, tapping her foot to keep the beat. Cheerheart swayed with her and beamed back, thanking her for her performance before gesturing for her to move along.

Hell yeah! Piper thought as she strolled along the path. This is my kind of contest.

The next Christmas liaison was a cute little reigndeer (reindeer? eh, whatever) who had a few baubles on his antlers. She almost gave in the the impulse to pet it but stayed her hand just in time. Here was the thing, though...what if this guy also liked Holly Jolly Christmas? The announcer said they each had a favorite song, not that each one was different! Maybe it was a trick question. So she stuck to her song just in case and became more confident in it. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to be quite as popular as she had hoped. Still, at least she pulled it off well enough for the Delbert to enjoy himself, or so it seemed anyway.

Widdlewicks was given a look. She didn't look like the snowman who had knocked her off her skis earlier, but...Well, they all looked kind of the same to her. Was that racist? Whatever. Piper switched to a different song, thankful it seemed easier than the first to sight read. She missed her jumps a few times, however, and she could feel every scratch of the pen on her own skin as she received some marks off. Damn it! Okay, Pipes, focus, focus...

Jack damn it, why were these people so cute? Not the elves mind you, but the animals! A fluffy polar bear sat waiting on the next doorstep, and she wanted nothing more than to just huddle up with her in the cold. In an attempt to woo her into said cuddling, Piper chose to sing All I Want For Christmas is You, adding a little dance routine to it to help her cause. Of course she wasn't expecting to win Beth over, but still--it seemed to help her performance at any rate. She waved Beth goodbye before bracing herself for the final visit.

...What the heck was this thing? A spinning top? What the heck do you sing to someone like that? Too baffled to figure out what would work best, Piper fell back on the old favorite from before, Holly Jolly Christmas, and received nothing but flat looks from the toy. The ghoul just stared right back, which probably didn't help, but hey--she wasn't the picky one here.

She left feeling like she'd done well overall, though. Singing was her niche; it couldn't bring her down, even if there were one or two haters out there who couldn't appreciate her voice as much as they should have.

These games seemed to be getting stranger and stranger as they went through them. The quiz itself hadn't been weird, but the set up and being threatened by evil tubes had been. Now they were in the snow trying to find winter creatures to uh...sing to them? The creatures of Christmas sure were odd, but if this was all part of their games and learning about them more then he would gladly do it all. He just had to find these Christmas beings first. It shouldn't be too hard, right? There was a path to each one of them. He just had to follow that and sing them the right songs. If he could manage that all would be well. Never mind the fact he didn't really know how to sing. Maybe they didn't really have to know though. Maybe it was the thought that counted and the real challenge was getting the right song. He hoped that was the case. He couldn't even remember the last time he had sang something. He sort of remembered a time back with his brother where he tried singing, but couldn't exactly remember how it had all worked out. If he had sang with his brother surely he could sing for Christmas creatures. Making his way down the first path was a little hard at first, but soon he found himself on the right track and located the tree where Cheerheart the Elf happened to be. Okay, okay he had to find a song to sing to him and fast. He was an Elf, and they were Santa's creeple. He nodded to himself as he thought, finally deciding on singing the Twelve Days of Christmas. The elf seemed to enjoy it enough and he even thought he was singing in key! This singing business wasn't too bad after all. Happy with his accomplishment he attempted to hurry on to the next path. Unfortunately he wasn't paying a bit of attention to where he was going and slipped on a slick spot, scattering his sheet music around. Oh it was just his luck too. The wind moved them about, making it difficult to catch the run away pages. Even more bad luck he only managed to capture The Twelve Days of Christmas and All I Want For Christmas Is You. The other sheets were long gone and he didn't think they would give them back to him. He would just have to deal with what he had and hope for the best. Next up was apparently a great legends descendant? He wasn't too sure, but since he had sung The Twelve Days of Christmas for the elf back at the other tree he thought it best to sing his lone page besides that. It had...not been a good idea. Delbert, or at least that's what he thought his name was, did not approve of his song choice and even went as far as to give him a motivational speech about caroling. How was that supposed to even help him when he had lost his sheet music?? Annoyed but determined to at least finish the challenge, Malik moved on to his next caroling creature. Seeing the snowman simply reminded Malik of a certain swoleman his first partner had been infatuated with and it really hurt his performance. He ended up with the same song again. The evil All I Want For Christmas song. All he wanted for Christmas was no more singing and definitely no more swoleman. Somehow even with all the failures he managed to finish, but it was not a pleasant finish at all. He swore to never sing another Christmas carol ever again after all of that blundering about.

Jarrod wasn't sure if he was going to like the next thing he had to do for the cup. It seemed he had to carol this time. And he had to carol cheerfully too or something. He wasn't even sure if he was good at singing at all but he wanted to try anyway. He wanted to do this for the cup. For his team. It couldn't really be this bad.

Section One: He started to walk around while trying to carol hoping he was doing sort of okay. He started to try and sing "All I Want for Christmas is You" which he hopefully did good enough. The elf he saw first wasn't really this impressed but also didn't seem to really hate it so he was probably doing fine.

Section Two: He started to sing a different song. He started to sing "The Twelve Days of Christmas" sort of. The creature he met now seemed to react the same as the elf did before so it wasn't really good or really bad. He was doing okay.

Section Three: He now started to sing or at least he tried to sing something called "Holly Jolly Christmas" which he wasn't really sure about. He caroled really really loud and tried to smile while caroling. It seemed to work! He was sure the snowman had no clue what he was trying to sing but it seemed to like his caroling. He was feeling and doing great now.

Section Four: He tried to sing "Silent Night" but he actually fell silent himself. He didn't know why but the bear just seemed to stare at him waiting for him to begin caroling. Jarrod didn't really know what to do now and quickly walked away hoping to find someone else and hopefully knowing how to "carol" again.

Section Five: He started "Jingle Bell Rock" or something and again tried to show he enjoyed caroling alot. He caroled really loud and gave the judge a big smile. He wasn't sure what this judge was but he wanted to impress. He wasn't happy about what happened with his caroling so he wanted to make that up now and it worked. The judge did seem impressed by him. Yes!

He started to walk again but he stopped caroling or singing now. He felt he had done okay for this part of the cup. He decided to leave the caroling behind and do something else now.

Gabriel was not well versed in the art of cheerfulness, but for competitions sake, he tried. He was given songs to choose from, and decided the tiny green elf was going to get a song that Gabby sang for Efflo (and not for him, go away tiny elf.) Blitzen received a strange ditty concerning some foreign toy called a dreidel, but Gabby managed to impress the creature without knowing what it was. The snowman seemed a quiet soul, and Gabby chose one of his favorite songs of the bunch for it. Silent Night was performed charmingly, and though the snowman had nothing to say to him for it, it seemed by the high score that he was content.

As he moved on, the white bear obsessed with snow was a second favorite of Gabby's, so he chose the longest song for him. The bear also approved of his choice, and Gabby seemed in high spirits until he came to the dreidel.

Oh, he thought to himself. So that's what that thing was.

He did not try to play with it as the song had suggested, but instead dutifully sang one last song. To no one's surprise, it was the song about him - and Gabby thought himself so clever for choosing it. The dreidel did not find him as clever, and only graded him with average points. When he held up the number, Gabby realized he was holding up two numbers by mistake, and had accidentally granted him more points than he deserved.

He did nothing to correct this error, and moved forward without shame.

Magda was thrilled to sing for the next leg of the games! She cleared her throat and prepared to belt out a melody for each of the carolers in turn.

And each, in turn, regretted offering their services to the competition when they heard her sing.

The elf was not terribly horrified, and the bear actually seemed to like Magda's crooning - as if somehow she was singing about how she only wanted the bear for Christmas, and it was charmed by the thought.

The reindeer, snowman, and dreidel, however, all wrote up formal complaints about having to listen to something that loud when they weren't actually being paid for their services. Said complaints were handed over to a formal looking helper student, who was actually just Magda by mistake. She thought they were new songs to sing, and belted them out with a random tune until one of them took back the complaints and ripped them to shreds.

She thought that meant she'd done excellent. Hurray!

Singing! Singing was great.

The packet of song lyrics was taken with great enthusiasm - so much, in fact, that when she flipped through it, she accidentally threw out half of them. Then ruined them by stepping on them several times in an attempt to pick them up without stepping on them.

Well. Now she only had three songs...but five people to sing to. Maybe they wouldn't notice? She hoped they wouldn't.

So she started in on the experts, and belted out the songs as loudly and as screeching as one might expect from her. The elf liked her attempt enough, but the reindeer heard her first attempt, and did not quite appreciate the repeated song. Whelp, time to move onto the next song!!

She sang Silent Night to the snowman, who liked it just fine, but like before, the second person she tried to sing to - this time a ?? - didn't appreciate it. By then, there was only one left, so...well, that worked out!

It really just wanted her to go away and so she did, pleased with herself for getting through it with at least some points. Plus, a new medal! That was always exciting!

Needle wasn't too sure about this whole singing business, but she was at least prepared. This time, her sheltered upbringing wouldn't be any form of hinderance to her! Over her time with Ulmuka, she had picked up the traditional songs, at least most of them, and she actually felt prepared. Bring on the carols!

The Elf was a little too enthused by her rendition of Holly Jolly Christmas, but the reindeer didn't seem too surprised by her attempt at Twelve Days of Christmas. Apparently a song about dreidels was not appropriate for snowmen - which was stored away as potentially important for later - and she continued on to the bear, making a very awkward and clumsy attempt at Jingle Bell Rock. It wasn't too pleased. Dreidelman liked her attempt at All I want for Christmas is you, but it wasn't it's favourite song, so it couldn't quite give her full marks.

Pleased enough with her attempt, Needle accepted her participation medal and carried on.

Mac heard the instructions, glanced down at the available sheet music, and heaved a sigh. Singing. Great. Hopefully Hel wasn't around to hear this, or she'd tease the hell out of him. Well, more than she usually did. When he stepped into the forest, he did his best to size up each of the experts, trying to judge which song they might like best. Considering he knew little about the Christmas folk, it was largely guess work, but hell, he apparently didn't do so bad.

When he sang, he pretended that Hel was no where near. That there was nobody around who could recognize him and potentially use this against him. Deep down he knew this was all wishful thinking (because, at the very least, Hel had a seventh sense for him), but it seemed to work.

So far, carolling was his best subject yet, and please don't let this be broadcast anywhere.
