Oriset had overheard her parents doing budgeting all the time when she had lived at home. She knew what it was like. She started by writing a list of everything she would need--an apartment, obviously, and food. Electricity, water, heating...internet would be nice. Cell phone service, obviously. She sorted each thing by priority and got to work.
The food thing turned out to be tricky. Why was food so expensive in Below? Oh. Right. Less sunlight. What a way to run a planet. A lot of her favorite food would have had to be imported...but she really couldn't afford to do that, unless she made it her main funsy-times expense. Uch. She needed that for essentials like pencils and foamboard. Okay, so she couldn't have comfort food. Great. Just...great. She sighed and ran her claws through her hair in frustration.
She eventually managed to budget it out, with a tiny amount of imported comfort food--for emergency purposes. Like losing a job or something. Pencils she would have to use down to the stub, and she'd have to get creative about x-acto blades. But she'd finished the assignment (albeit with no wiggle room). She turned it in and sank back into her seat. The idea that living alone could be so expensive...she shivered. She needed some of that comfort food after that nasty shock...

Aloe was rather surprised she wasn't banging her head on the desk trying to figure out how to budget. Maybe since she didn't eat meat it was easier for her to figure out her food budget and how she wanted to live. Aloe didn't need much to be happy, the biggest part of her budget was for plant care. After, all she spent a lot of money already on soil and new plants. Aloe would rather go on a diet than not take care of her plants. She figured she would still have money left over to take care of herself after she took care of her many plants.

Cooking? Tacos? Citali had a feeling this was not going to go over well. Her and cooking just did not get along at all. She gathered up all the ingredients and then read over the instructions. And then re-reread the instructions again to make sure she understood it. "Alright, this can't be that hard." the Goblin muttered to herself under her breath as she started making the tacos.
Once completed she took a bite of them, and then quickly spit it back out. "Hot hot hot hot! Citali quickly grabbed the nearest beverage to her and chugged it down. This is exactly why she didn't cook. No matter how many times she read the instructions something still came out wrong. At least she didn't burn it this time...or catch it on fire.

The fallen tried his best not to show his horror upon learning what they were supposed to do in Life Skills class that day. It wasn't so much that they were supposed to cook, it was what they were supposed to cook that had him trying not to skip class. Why of all things did it have to be tacos? They were not on Charmstar's list of food he liked. He maintained a pleasant smile though, because he didn't want to give off a negative impression or that he was some sort of downer in class. But he may have accidentally on purpose misplaced the shells when his turn came. "Oops. I wonder where they could have gone? I can make a taco salad instead." he suggested brightly.

Budgeting.
Her heart sank as she stared at the teacher. Really? She was already busy worrying about her future, and now.... this? The Imp had not been enthusiastic one bit as she did her assignment, her mood getting worse with each minute. Ah. This was her future. This was what she was supposed to do with her life, and if she failed this assignment.... she'd fail the future, wouldn't she?
She found a relatively cheap apartment. 500$ a month, including utilities. That meant at least 500$ for food, clothes, and emergencies. It'd be tight, but she could do it, unless.... something big happened. Like a vet trip. Where was the room to save? Would she be stuck like this forever? By the time she finished the assignment Litla had lost her spirit, crumbling into her desk when she turned it in to Talfia. She hadn't failed it, of course. She actually did relatively well, but that didn't.... stop Litla from worrying.
The future didn't look so promising.

Maria was, honestly, fairly comfortable cooking. She wasn't the best, by far, but she wasn't the worst, either. She had, on occasion, dabbled here and there. So when she entered the class and was told to cook she didn't panic, rolling her sleeves up and getting to work immediately.
By the time she was done she held a smile, head leaning back to examine her work. Passable. She didn't fail. Hopefully the teacher was pleased, too.

Vanna was never really good at sewing. Crafts and other such things were more his sister’s department. It didn’t mean that he didn’t know how to sew however. He just wasn’t the biggest fan. Still of course the assignment had to be plushies. Ah well it was going to a good cause right. Hopefully he wasn’t soo rusty that they ran in terror by the time he was done with the plushie. Absent mindedly he bit his lower lip as he went through the motions the teacher had taught them. The class after a while faded away as his focus narrowed down to the materials in front of him. Eventually one of his friends tapped his shoulder mentioning that it was nearing the end of class. Shaking his head to refocus on the world he now realized that he had a small army of plushies in front of him. In fact he probably had around 18 and he was in the middle of the other one… whoops. Well on the bright side they didn’t look too bad. Maybe the teacher would allow him to take one home?

Sewing? Xochi thought that maybe there had been a class regarding sewing last year. It was a little bit of a blur. What was certain, though, was she had zero idea what the hell she was doing. She looked at the patterns and material, the needles and thread, and knew with a certain dread she was going to mess this up spectacularly. However the teacher had made it clear there were no failures. You just had to do your best. Xochi did her best. She did. She tried her hardest to make a cute plushie that a little child would like, but what she ended up with was nothing short than a monster. Beans spilled out of one side and the seams connecting the head to the body were starting to fray. One arm was much, much thicker than the other, and the other was pitifully then. The ears, oh nine... The ears were a particularly hot mess. One was probably a baphomet ear and the other a grimm ear. How this happened, Xochi couldn't explain. Oh and the tail was... Just a nubbin, really. Not much a tail. With deep shame, she placed the plushie onto the teachers desk. "I... I gave it my all, but please don't give this to a child. I don't want to give them nightmares..."

UGH. This was so frustrating! The litch was about five minutes away from either throwing the needle or flipping a table, though the latter sounded much more appealing. She watched as the string just skim past the hole once again and the litch had to bite her tongue. Why was this so hard?
Running the string over her tongue one last time she glared at the needle. She would succeed. She would be able to fix that seam on her dress and all would be well in the world. As she inched ever closer to that narrow hole, she just imagined wearing her favorite dress again, not worried about the hole or being made fun of. She just needed to get. this. right. The string gently made it’s way through the hole and Kuchena was this close to jumping up from her chair and running a lap. VICTORY. Now, onward to the actual sewing. Luckily, she didn’t have her next class for another hour or two.

Rica hummed as she closed up the holes in the practice fabric. She kept her rhythm steady as she worked. She wasn't the best, she knew that much, but she was happy and it was soothing. Basic stitching was really important and she had fixed the hem of her longer skirts after they had come undone. It made do in pinch, but she was really happy that she was going to have the chance to get better.
Bringing up her work to the teacher, she gave a small laugh, "I actually have sewn before, or at least my mother showed me how to do it before I left for the Below." She couldn't wait for the higher level of sewing so she could patch up her mistakes.

Sewing wasn't so bad after the nightmare that PE had turned out to be. It was actually a nice stress reliever. She had spent most of the night trying to get the pattern just right. She messed up a few of the odder stitches, but she would love a plushie like this if she were a freshling, so hopefully they would also enjoy it. It was soft and squishy, and the stuffing wasn't falling out. The geist would have to call this a success.
That good job though felt really nice and she smiled at Talfia, "Would it be possible to make some more? I'd love to donate some more to the new freshlings!" Oh! Maybe that could be part of her community service! Two good deeds wrapped up in one sounded really nice.

Okay, sewing? This was his thing. Like, what he wanted to DO. Ganymede got himself all situated to start working, then began patching up the hole with near surgical focus... However something loud happened in another part of the room that caught his attention, and he ended up looking away for just long enough to sew a few stitches in the arm hole opening... Whoops!
Carefully he undid them - using the seam ripper to remove the stubborn ones - then went back to patching his hole properly. Ugh. That was a little embarrassing...

Sewing? Zenith supposed that could be useful... for if some clothing tore but she didn't want to get rid of it just yet... hmm... They were going to be making plushies though, so maybe this would be a little different?
She didn't really understand the instructions for the more complicated stitches, and she'd worried at first that her choice in fabric was not going to look very nice when everything was finished, but thankfully the end result didn't look bad at all! She'd probably keep this in her keepsake box or something... It was a good memory!
