Considering that Diana had earned enough to buy her way out of here almost solely on the strength of her blackjack skills, Max decided he would give the game a shot too. He knew the basic rules, how you should quit when your first hand was too high, but he didn't have long and risks would have to be taken. He sighed at his cards, then indicated to the dealer that he wanted another.

He huffed and slid the rest of his cards face up on top of his new one, displaying his bad choices for the dealer to get out of his sight. Things could only go uphill from here.

Rather than take another hit like his first, Max folded, waiting for a new game to start. When he got his third set of cards, the man stared at them with amusement. At least what needed to be done this time was clear enough.

Almost. Even though he wasn't going to chance another hit, the fact that he had gotten so close this time was a comfort. Max smiled as he conceded and slid his bad cards back across the table.

And there it was. His first good hand. As soon as Max saw his cards he let out a yelp and slammed them onto the table, earning back the coins he'd lost and then some. If he could keep this up, he would eventually have enough to get out, or get Diana out if she decided to do something crazy.
