The sun felt great, even if the air felt stuffy. Otto liked the outdoors, as evidenced by the parade of freckles on his skin. His face turned in surprise to look at Chance. "Woah, for real?" He asked in disbelief. "Back then?" He was maybe a little flattered.

"Well," Chance amended as they walked. "I mean, from the beginning I thought you were pretty attractive, but I just assumed you weren't really into guys, so I never pushed it. But that moment was when I almost just went for it anyway."
He flicked a look towards Otto, an easy smile on his face.
"I'm kinda glad I didn't, things progressed rather nicely anyway."

Well damn. Otto took a minute to let that all sink in without getting a big head over it. "Yeah, me too. I doubt I woulda.. reciprocated or whatever at that point in time." Apparently Otto wasn't sure if that word was used in proper context. Maybe he was expanding his library of vocabulary. "I probably woulda been scared off."

A small breeze rifled through the air, brief, but still enough to rustle their hair a little. Chance gave a little laugh and kept walking, the beach in sight a short distance away.
"Hence why I never did anything until the camping trip," he said. "I figured if you wanted me, you'd decide on your own if you could or should or would and all that s**t, and, well..." He gave Otto's fingers a light squeeze. "You came and got me, so here we are."
He was being sappy again, but that was beside the point. Chance added, just to add a dose of sass, "Now I get the pleasure of dealing with this little s**t right here."

"Well, you lacked the intelligence to read the fine print." Otto sassed back, his chin held high. "Your problem, not mine."

"This is what I get for not carrying a magnifying glass with me all the time," Chance deadpanned, nudging Otto's side with his elbow. " He staggered a little as the hit the sand, the ground soft beneath his feet.
"Man, it's nice out here when we're not being attacked by zombies."

" Most places are nice when zombie free." Otto said in a flat tone back. He led them to the surf, where the sand was damp enough to walk on without stumbling. Otto took a moment to take off his shoes. He wanted the feel the wet sand on his feet and the rolling waves against his ankles. He pointedly tried not to remember much about that awful night. Except... "Hm... no pie wall." Dejectedly he stared out to the ocean beyond the horizon.

"True," said Chance, and followed suit, slipping his feet out of his own shoes and holding them in his free hand. The water was a little chilly, but the sun easily warmed both it and them, beating down on the back of his neck and shoulders.
A small laugh escaped Chance's throat. "The pie wall was definitely one of the more interesting things, I will admit. Hearing it was your doing was completely unsurprising."

"Aw c'mon, not even a little surprised it was me?" He laughed, walking along the shore hand in hand. It had been so absurd. But absurd was something he'd truly needed that night.

He snorted, the waves lapping at his ankles and making the hem of his pants a little damp; but it felt nice, the contrast between the heat of the sun and the coolness of the water nicely balancing each other out.
"Otto, please," said Chance dryly. "I'm pretty sure your love of sweets is entirely and wholly unrivaled."

He yelped as an especially bigger wave threatened to reach past their ankles, dragging Chance a few feet away with him as the wave chased them. "Well, I dunno. I think a giant wall of Skittles would be way more obvious it was me. That could be anyone's pie!"

He hastily stumbled after Otto, feet slipping in the damp sand, water licking at his feet. The air was thick with the scent of saltwater and brine, familiar and yet not at the same time.
"A giant wall of Skittles seems strangely impractical. A wall of pies, however, somehow seemed to work well."
Chance grasped Otto's hand and sidestepped a seashell.
"Besides, you've forgotten, I've seen you eat pie before, I know you are about your cakes and pies."

"Okay fine, you got me." He muttered with a sigh. It was hard to pretend he wasn't so fond of sweets. "One thing I gotta say about pies, is my feelings on meat pies. And that feeling is that they need to make them illegal." Otto nodded firmly. "Pies are supposed to be sweet! With like fruits. Not ********' chicken."

He wrinkled his nose.
"Is there such a thing as a meat pie?" Chance asked, sounding vaguely disgusted by this possibility. He gave their joined hands an idle little swing. "I've never even heard of a meat pie, that sounds revolting."

Otto became quite expressive as he turned to regard Chance. "Right? It's terrible! But people make like s**t called Shepherds pie n s**t. And Chicken pot pie.. My grandma used to make it and I always threw a fit." He cringed, nearly a full body one. "No one who hears they're gunna get pie and is met with brown gunk inside the pie is gunna smile about it. Weird sorts of people dig that s**t."
