Cytheria tilted her head to the side and considered. "Well, it doesn't sound like it's flashing and rumbling anymore, but it might still be raining. It's hard to tell from down here. We could take a look outside though, and if it's too wet, we can wait it out a little longer."

Standing up, she stretches slightly. "That sort of thing would be punished heavily in my new home. The Lord of the Land is very strict about such things. Marriage is important to him. In my homeland, well, it would depend on how connected the man's family was compared to how connected the woman's family was. The family with more power would be able to cause trouble for the less powerful family." She shrugs her shoulders and offers a hand to help Sheridan up. "I don't mind the idea of being married in general, but the men in my town think they can get any girl whenever they want. Most girls are desperate to get married because then the Lord will never choose them."

"Let's go look," Sheridan said, gratefully taking Cytheria's hand to be helped up.

She smoothed over her dress and stretched upwards. "So is everyone married where you come from?"

"Nearly everyone who can manage it," Cytheria says, moving towards the door. "Most parents are desperate to get their girls married off, so the parents of the boys are often able to demand high dowries. No one wants to see their daughters chosen to be the Bride of the Land. People are afraid of what they don't know, and no one knows what happens to the girls."

Opening the door a crack, she looks outside. It's still drizzling a bit, but the storm is more or less over. "Well, what do you think?" she asks, meaning the weather, not the conversation about marriage.

"Do your parents want to marry? What's a dowries?" Sheridan asked, a little confused.

She peered out the door at the drizzling rain, and she stepped out of the shop. Sheridan said, "We don't know when the owner of the store will come back. What if he's really mad at us for using his shop? We should probably go before he gets back, right?"

"My parents have been dead for almost two years," Cytheria says sadly. "But if they were still alive I'd still be in the other city, and they'd probably want to see me married, yes." Then she smiles again. "A dowry is something that the family of a bride pays to the family of the groom. It's never made a lot of sense to me, but it's a very old tradition in many of our lands. Where I live now, it is extremely important. But the person who pays the highest price is always Lord Shayden on behalf of the land."

Holding her hand outside, Cytheria nods to herself. "If you don't mind getting a little wet, it should be fine to go outside. And you're right, the shop owner may be angry. Though, if he's at all a decent person he shouldn't begrudge a couple young women the shelter of his store."

Stepping outside first, she gestures for Sheridan to follow. "How about yourself? Have you ever thought of being married in your future?"

"Wow," Sheridan said quietly as she listened to Cytheria. "I couldn't imagine."

"I think it'll be okay," she added, stepping outside. "Where do we go, though?"

"Well," she said, "I've thought about it. I mean. Maybe if I meet the right person, but honestly, I'm not sure. Most of the guys who like me, I don't like them back. And the one guy I do like doesn't even give me the time of day. I think he's seeing someone though. I don't know."

"If you're not interested, you're not interested. I would like to marry for love, not because I'm afraid of what will happen to me if I don't marry," Cytheria says. "My parents loved each other, but I never knew if it was because they learned to after they were married, or if they married because they loved each other. Either way, I'd rather have a marriage like theirs than a marriage similar to some of the women in my new town."

Cautiously she looks around. Finally she points to the bell tower building in the middle of the town. "That looks like an important sort of place. Maybe we should try to go there. If we're not supposed to be there, surely someone will see us and tell us to step away. At least then maybe we can figure out where we are."

"Marrying for love sounds good," Sheridan said breathlessly. "I want it to be like the movies. Simple and sweet and spontaneous."

Sheridan stared at the bell tower, and said, "Good point, but how do we get up there?"

She smoothed her dress once again, feeling the silk slip beneath her hands. She yearned for something made of wool, or at least something to cover herself with as goosebumps traveled up her skin. Her feet felt like awkward blocks of ice.

"There's a building at the base of the tower," Cytheria says. "So there's probably a door around the side. With any luck it will be unlocked just like that store was." The two girls seem to be the only people in the town still. There's a sense of emptiness in the air that makes Cytheria stick closely to Sheridan. "What are movies? I've never heard of such things. Are they places where people get married?"

"We should go, then, yeah? This place gives me the creeps," Sheridan said as she hurried towards the tower. "And movies are recordings of people portraying other people. Like a play."

Sheridan grabbed the older girl's hand as she ran towards the tower. Her mind kept screaming "danger", but she didn't know why.

"Yes, let's go," agrees Cytheria, moving along quickly with Sheridan. Then, suddenly, the pair of them are right at the base of the tower. They were moving one moment, and then the next, they were at their destination. "What just happened?" asks Cytheria, sounding truly alarmed for the first time since they met on the road.

((OOC: I decided to let her teleport. She didn't do it on purpose this time. Also, it looks like I screwed up the quote last time somehow, so I'm sorry.))

((OOC: No worries! And you decided on teleportation for her power then? Sounds awesome!))

Sheridan gasped and staggered backwards. "What was that? Did you do that? Are you okay?"

She shook her head to clear it. What's with this place?

"I...I don't know. I don't think I did it," Cytheria says, looking down at her hands as though they could tell her the truth of the matter. "It wasn't one of the wonders from your world, like a light bulb or a movie?" It certainly seemed move-y. Putting a hand up to her head, she leans against the side of the building. "I am feeling a bit dizzy, but I don't know if it's because I did it or because it's just too strange for my mind to grapple."

((OOC: Well, the character doesn't want to be controlled, and it's hard to control someone when they can get away from anyplace, even a locked room.))

"Maybe you should sit down," Sheridan suggested, a little panicked.

She took one of Cytheria's hands and tugged at it nervously. She wasn't sure what had happened either, but it seemed to affect the other girl more than her. She didn't know what to do, how to help, and her throat felt tight. Still shivering from cold - how had it gotten cold so fast - she yanked the handle of the door of the tower, and she hurried in, hoping for heat. She attempted to drag Cytheria in with her. There had to be somewhere for her to sit.

((OOC: I'm not sure yet))
