The prioritization of comfort at such a high level of importance struck a nerve, and she was so prepared with her vehement disagreement in the matter that it nearly leapt from her throat before she had any time to stop it. But she had, because when she took one moment longer to consider it...comfort was her priority as well. Comfort was, ultimately, what she sought from her sense of belonging. Maybe others sought other comforts, and she could not fault them for fighting to maintain that as she fought to obtain her own.

"I understand," she murmured, still fidgeting in spite of her agreement and concession. Something was still bothering her, whether or not she chose to acknowledge it aloud. "It is a place of belonging. The cycle requires participants, from Kings to Knights to subjects in a range of categorical variants, and each are afforded a consistent, permanent place there. For as long as the cycle remains."

Then was it wrong to want to break it? What were her chances of simply escaping it while still preserving that in which she belonged?

"But if you are born for glory..." Her name was so pleasant to hear in his voice, so much so that it pained her as it met the rest of her thoughts. "How do you believe that we share our destiny? How do you believe that I could give you glory?"

"Because, Mildred Morris." He said it again, because it felt just as good to his ear as it did to hers. "What we were born for, and what we can choose to strive for, may not be as intertwined as I'd once previously thought."

There were petals stuck in her hair from the trees that occasionally shed, and he plucked them out, one by one. "I wish to believe that I can make a choice, now. You taught me that. You did not accept the box I had once tried to put you in. You wanted more. You still do. And so, perhaps, do I."

One of the petals stayed in his hands, and he pressed it lightly against his fingertips, before using it to brush against her cheek. "Uncertainty scared me, once upon a time. Nothing scares me now, as long as I have you."

Throughout the duration of time that she was aware of knowing him, he'd been far more attentive of her grooming than she had; she didn't mind the accumulation of twigs or insects or, in this case, petals, but she didn't mind that he was attentive enough to want to remove them either. It was admittedly pleasant to have someone tending to the things she didn't want to do, especially as that same someone was now just as willing to allow her to take care of her own tasks when they interested her. He seemed to have learned very well when to push and when to pull, and they worked so excellently in tandem once they ceased their collisions of misunderstanding.

So she paid no particular attention to his inclination to do so now, until he brushed the petal against her face, and she responded with a wrinkled nose and a soft snort of laughter. Whether this ruined the mood or improved it was up for interpretation.

"You do," she replied, sincere despite her subsiding giggle. "And you will. We will have what we want - together. And it will be more than this."

She moved in preparation of standing, but didn't just yet, waiting with watchful, hesitant eyes to be certain that he did not want to be near this circle.

"Nonetheless, I do think that Lancelot's suggestion in regards to making use of this quiet is something that I will admit to agreeing upon." Her smile spread, sly around the edges once more. "If you are so inclined..."

At least her next suggestion was an easy one. He groaned with a sudden relief, moving to stand up while helping her to her feet as well. "Nothing would please me more. I need to go wash up, and I need to sleep for a decade, and then maybe, MAYBE, I will be ready to fight again." He took her hand, and all but dragged her to the lake to deal with the absolute filth of fighting for the side of goodness.

[ Joy is volunteering | Blue | proof ]

There were so many who had stepped forward, Joy didn't think she stood a chance at being chosen. She hadn't done enough, not nearly enough. So many had fallen, so many had perished, but what's passed has passed and all she can do is keep moving forward. In their honor, in their memory.

Her heart ached, her soul screamed in despair, not enough. But she would be if they would allow her. She was a Knight, Great or no, she had a duty and she was going to fulfill it to the best of her capabilities. That was all there was to it. Whether she was worthy was out of her hands, she'd done all she could to serve. She would do more if she could, if she knew what could be done.

"I don't know how to pretty my words, not really good at talking like most other folks but I will protect every one with all I can. Even if it costs me my own life. I am not afraid of pain or death. I do not fear the shadows. I will meet them headlong and they will pay for all the suffering they've caused."

[ Pokerus is volunteering | White | proof ]

So many had already stepped up to offer their lives to keep everyone else safe. Having stood there and watched them go, Pokerus was amazed at just how self sacrificing and noble they all where. Even the white haired boy offered his own life for the cause.

Watching them all, she just couldn't stand back anymore. Though she wasn't the smartest, she wasn't about to let them all sacrifice themselves just to keep her safe.

The white knight waited until the last person had got up, before she too stepped towards the mound, bending down on one knee and holding a hand to her heart.

"I have seen many Noble knights step forward today, giving up their lives to fight the ever encroaching darkness. It is with great honor that I stand here to see the courage that you all possesses, and it is with this same honor that I will gladly offer my own life. I will fight for each and every one of you until the very last drop of blood is shed from my body, so that one day others can live here in peace and without fear."

Caoineadh is volunteering. Color: GREEN.

She had been almost stricken with paralysis as she stood in the corridor not knowing what to do, the call of the chalice was more than she could resist and for a time she knew she had been locked there.

Before she knew it though, she found herself upon a steed racing far from Camelot, and as she looked back, she felt pain and dread. How could such a place fall so badly. It was as if.. no not just as if, it was the work of all who held peace and happiness as nothing more than a play thing. She closed her eyes tight and waited for the steed to stop.

There before her stood Lancelot, and the news he carried was like a physical blow to her. For the King to fall, for all the Knights to have fell, and for them to be what was left... so few from what was a great and mighty kingdom. Granted they were not the sole survivors but still... it was but a fraction of the whole that had made the Kingdom.

Lancelot said they needed people to volunteer. She knew that she was willing to put everything on the line for the sake of the greater good, she had known that since the moment she had first took her vow. It was in her soul that she needed to do something.

Moving forward she lowered herself to her knees, putting her fist over her heart and bowing her head, Longbow laying at her side, the chain linked around her wrist showing her steadfast willingness to help.

"I am not the strongest, I am not the bravest, that I know, but I am willing to lay everything on the line for the sake of the kingdom, to make things right again. I ask that you at least consider me." Looking up a moment she took a deep breath. "I wish to do everything I can."

There was no real way of knowing what would happen but whatever it was, she was willing to face it.

As a knight, Danirate Levinski was of the mind that he could simply regain energy without a necessity to sit or sleep. And thus, though he stood amongst the group in this time supposedly for restoration of full vigor, he was not actually taking part as an active member of the audience but rather going over tactics of past and future in his head. Then at this point, he had proceeded to go for a walk in this rest area they found themselves at after the ventures in underground corridors.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF MY CHARACTER
At last, after much practice, knight in training Danirate Levinski now has fairly little trouble with wielding his longsword to perform the basic strokes. However, he, this man, tall and proud, and whose crown of hair likens to that of the sun at the horizon's edge, did indeed have plenty of ground to cover still before he was capable of being recognized as a knight no longer in training, the next milestone he has set his sights on. So as to reach this next goal of his, he fully intends to continue to maintain his foundations and innovate as he proceeds onward.

[ Abbi is Volunteering! - Blue ]

Everything had gone a bit whirlwindy after Abbi had gotten her weapon back, and she was quickly deposited by a lake shortly thereafter. That was fine, she guessed, mostly because she wasn't in any sort of position to argue about the going ons around her. In a way she's glad for this momentary reprieve, even if she still finds herself worrying over taking this momentary peace. Once she'd gotten herself back up and dusted off, the girl took only a moment to look at the lake before Lancelot began.
It was all very disheartening and the girl frowned down at the ground for a long moment. She'd been trying so hard but they were still coming up short. Their efforts were just a temporary bandage on a quickly worsening situation. Maybe that is why when the Great Knight speaks of seven stepping forward to pledge and serve, Abbi literally jumps into the air.

With fists clenched she waits on dancing toes for the other knights to file forward and offer themselves, skittishly patient as she tries to think of what she wants to say. By the time it is her turn she has decided on something and steps forward to speak, clattering to one knee in her exuberance.
"I would like to pledge myself to the protection of this world and all its people! I am small, but my wit is large, and I will fight as hard as I must. Perhaps I am not the strongest, but I will do whatever I can to help and to offer sanctuary to those in need." She paused, blinking at the grass as something tickled in her memory before she rose her head. "Everyone ought to live a life free of terror, and I will gladly give myself so they might have that opportunity." Abbi nodded and stood, promptly flushed and hurried off so another knight could have their turn.

[ Chris is Volunteering - Blue! ]

The wind tears at his clothes as the horses race away from Camelot. He feels like he's barely holding on as they run faster and faster, following some loose formation he can't figure out. It's like they're trying to outrun the lingering fog of corruption and even Chris can feel it's grasp now.

He's gracelessly deposited by the lake, and catches sight of Chel for a brief second before Lancelot catches his attention.

The Great King is dead.

The shock of the news isn't really about the King's death, at least not to Chris. It's that he gets a stark feeling of deja vu. He'd imagined the King's death when he looked into the mirror, and now he was standing her, looking Lancelot in the face as the vision came true. The hollow feeling he'd had before was filled with something like regret.

Should he have said something? He had no way of knowing it was real. There was no way that meant he was actually complacent in his death. It had been an illusion, he was positive.

The announcement that new Great Knights will be chosen is somehow more jarring. Perhaps because it feels more personal, more tangible than a King he'd never seen for more than a scripted announcement. Volunteering himself - volunteering his entire life to this cause - is an unbelievably difficult decision to make. But he watches people he's fought beside kneel, one after another, to lay down their lives for Camelot, and he waivers.

How could he value his own future above any of theirs? What made his life more important than that of the people he'd seen countless battle with?

He watches Chel kneel, and that seals the deal. He falls to his own knees before Lancelot. "I've been through a lot for Camelot already. No more than anyone else before you, I'm sure, but I've done everything I can for this kingdom. I've broken bridges, suffered through quests, fought horrifying shadows, and put my hands in flames to take up my weapons and keep fighting. I'd do so much more for the people in this kingdom. There are knights here that I'd fall on my sword for," he pauses, searching out the people he's gone though this all with. Shun, Estel, Jack, and Chel all loosely grouped together at the water's edge. He almost wants to cry as he sees them, because he realizes just how true his words are. "I'd gladly give my life for theirs and then some. Whatever you ask of me, if it saves them I'll do it. Just say the word."

Matthias was still looking at the palm of his hand when a group of knights ushered everyone out of the corridor and into the bright sun. Shying away from the light he tried to see what was going on, and tried to figure why a white horse had just kneeled before him. The horse on his quest previous was some old nag that was more than willing to leave him for dead out in the middle of the forest which had pretty much told him that he had lacked any ability to judge what a good horse. Glancing over he saw Lancelot but before he could even say a word or at least get a better look he was ushered up on the steed that plunged straight forward into the woods.

He wanted to turn around, to take another look at Camelot before they left but he couldn’t. They were abandoning it, no, it had failed what it was suppose to do. It was suppose to be somewhere safe somewhere they could trust where they could make some sort of stand against the shadows but they had easily lost it. Everything had gone wrong, they had all turned on one another, some easily then others, and some had merely lost their lives to some. Percival, if he was corrupt or not he did not know, he was easily torn away by what was suppose to be an ally. Even with his back turned he could feel it, corruption seeping farther and farther into the castle, it wouldn’t be long before it would be as black as night.

What where they going to do?

The horse continued forward, swiftly weaving in and out of the woods until it reached a lake where they were easily bucked their riders off and disappeared into the wisps of fog that lingered along the edge. In front of them was five mounds of earth, and as Lancelot spoke the less Matthias could take his eyes away. The Great King, the Great Knights, even Merlin what were they going to do now.

Who would take their place, who would even Sir Percival’s place. Would he even follow them? How would he even know that they were corrupt, he could feel the doubt sinking further and further in as he remained motionless.

[ Verusha is volunteering to be a Great Knight - Red - journal ]

[enter]

As the train of events that'd proceeded before, this one was no different. Things were chaotic, crazy, fast-pace, and unrelenting. Verusha was just chugging on, trying to keep himself from getting sucked into the sickness that seemed to be taking hold of old Camelot. Around him once fellow knights that he'd seen in passing were not themselves, and their numbers were dwindling. How? What had caused all of this to go into motion? and why had it been now? Looking around him, Verusha took a rare moment to mull to himself over what'd transpired so far. He began to delve into what his reason was for being here now. Who could even be trusted now? So far, everyone had gone rogue, and been something they didn't advertise being. Everyone had gone against what they'd stood for. Everyone except.. Lancelot. Well, that he knew of. But the guy'd been gone constantly, and only showed up when the worst of the worst had risen.

Just how 'just' was he?

It was a lot to take in, and a lot to process, but now wasn't the time. The sight of said Great Knight was a hint of relief, but unnerving at the same time. After seeing all their great leaders fall, Verusha wasn't in the most trusting of moods, and held some skepticism now with the ones who claimed to be of such honorable intentions. Coupled with a few rather... dashing horses, he was surprised to be given the go ahead to ride one of the intellectual beasts. But he does as encouraged, following off into the guidance it provides.

Arriving at their destination--which was abruptly notified by the buck from the steed-- Verusha stood and dusted off his pants, looking around the ethereal like setting, feeling a need to keep his voice as low to match the tone of the ambiance. As if any sudden breaking of the airs heavy clouding might cause some sort of catastrophe or disruption.

Walking towards Lancelot slowly, he takes note of the risen ground that signifies a well known sight for anyone. Everyone really was gone. Everyone who was supposed to help make the world anew again. In one swoop they'd all been felled and extinct, with their beacon the only one still standing. To think that such capable warriors had been annihilated so easily wasn't a very settling realization. While Verusha wasn't a cocky man, he was confident. But he also was aware too of how grand the magnitude was of what they were fighting... or at least, a glimpse of it. Could he really take all that on?

Staring for what seemed ages, the breaking of the silence was done by Lancelot, starting Verusha, and instigating him to look up from the laid out graves. He listened, and watched silently, observing both Lancelots demeanor, and gestures intently. It was a little surprising to hear that the guy wanted to start again, since those who had fallen. From.... a bunch of fresh greenhorn knights? Was that really wise? And would it really be at the caliber necessary? But what could he do. There wasn't any other option. While their Greats had fallen, others had to step up and defend as they once had... or were supposed to, at least. There wasn't time for second guessing, or worrying of the what if's, or what about's. Things needed to start progressing forward. They couldn't remain crippled and stagnant.

After looking to the circle etched on the earth for awhile, Verusha glanced around at the others with him, and his trademark grin slowly peeled back into place. Well if anyone could do this, he could. Stepping forward, he took a knee, and offered his services,

"Even with all this craziness that's been going on, I'm still raring and ready to take back our land. I know I could do a better job than Morgan, too." he smirked.

The last of the knights pledge, and then Lancelot signals to them. "A moment, please."

He returns a while later, and summons all knights. "It is time, and as you know, a corruption has taken over the castle. We must first secure our stronghold to continue the legacy of the Great King. To do so, you will all be divided into seven brigades, each one lead by the new Great Knight. And though we speak of new Great Knights, in this battle, all knights are equal. May we rise as one, and fall as one."

"The brigade of black knights will be lead by Shun. You must remain steadfast, and the Great Knight most must represent solidarity and resistance. You will be in charge of preparing and accounting for all teams and individuals."

"The brigade of the green knights will be lead by Jack. Your goal is to heal those in need. You will be in charge of preparing medicinal relief for the long trip ahead."

"The brigade of the white knights will be lead by Estel. You goal is to rescue and expedite. You will be in charge of finding an escape route, and making sure those in need have a way to be saved."

"The brigade of the violet knights will be lead by Ridon. Your goal is combat support. You will be in charge of polishing weapons, supplying ammunition, and making sure all knights are familiar and comfortable with their weapons."

"The brigade of the gold knights will be lead by Jason. You are the scribes, who must write down our legacy. Only then will someone remember what we have done, for the time to come."

"The brigade of the red knights will be led by Wrath. You are the front lines. You must prepare yourselves for battle, and figure out a way to best enter the castle."

"Lastly, the brigade of the blue knights will be lead by Arrakis. It is your responsibility to provide a solid defense. Protect the offensive teams, and learn how to use your weapons defensively."

The Seven Great Knights are chosen, and Lancelot too kneels. "You are the seven brigades will turn the tides of this war. Your sacrifice is the greatest, and you will continue to eternally serve. This is the duty of all Great Knights, their eternal promise to the Great King."

For a moment he looks sad as he looks at all remaining knights. "It is no coincidence you are the only ones remaining," he finally says, and it feels like a confession, "we always knew it would come to this." He turns around, the flow of conversation changes again. "The old knights are no more, now, we should give ourselves a new name. Let us be called the last stand of the Great King. This our contribution to his legacy."

A woman appears next to Lancelot now, dressed in white. In her hands is a silver bough from a tree, and she hands it over to the former Great Knight. It is placed in the ground and immediately springs into a beautiful silver birch tree.

"Knights," Lancelot continues," and knights that would be Great Knights. Take a branch from the tree and carry it to the lake to relieve your blessings. When the lake has given you her full protection, only then are you ready for your final battle. The dawning is upon us soon."

After what felt like an eternity of waiting, the Great Knight signals them to stop and again, disappeared somewhere.

When he returned a while later, he said that the time has come and took seven new Great Knights from all of them. Rei wasn't included, but he saw many of his friends---those who once shares the battlefield with him---gets chosen. As the new Great Knight of Blue was one that he haven't seen before.

As soon as they are appointed, Lancelot also kneels and gave them the speech of 'sacrifice'. After the woman in white handed the bough and Lancelot planted it on the ground, a magnificent birch tree sprouted from it.

This is the time for the last ceremony in solemness. The next 'ceremony' will be in the midst of crawling shadows and bloodshed.
