This was just embarassing. He had to use his charge so a crab wouldn't kill him before he even set foot underwater. Swam. Whatever.

In this instance, the crab proved craftier and danced around his legs, pinching frustratedly at the new glow surrounding its prey.

He snapped his shield over its armor and it made the strangest, unnatural sound. Almost a little too much like metal on metal.

But with another hit, the shell dented and the crab stilled. Cautiously he scooped it up into Syn's maw and carried it to the beach for his partner to examine.
Scout was, as usual, a little too pleased for him to understand.

There were so many stones here. He was already aching; why not splurge and splurge fast.
Dawson was lucky he caught sight of the quiver of something organic in the subtle pulse of the walls. He barely made it out of the cave, his legs having been caught in the maw of teeth. Panic had never overtaken him so badly.
He didn't stop swimming away for many breathless minutes.

He just couldn't stand the idea of going on a dive and not getting a stone. Exhausted and going sheerly on determination, he grabbed four.

He should have known better than to keep going when he was hitting fumes fast, strong will or not. Syn was a constant alarm: bravery now isn't required, it's stupid.

And in this case, extremely dangerous. Dawson simply didn't know when to quit as he tried to navigate through the snakey tendrils, and it was a miracle really that they had quickly lashed him back out of the cave. He lost consciousness on the way out and bobbed on the surface like a bloated beachball shortly after.

Nothing made one more open to meditation than getting completely knocked out. The aches and pains distracted him at points, sure, but other than that he felt loose. Distant. Hyper-focused, he supposed, like Horace had put it.
When the two runes he had managed to keep on his way up lit up, ready for work, Dawson felt such a wave of relief come over him. It made a nice narrative: he could get the s**t kicked out of him, but if he could at least do the little thing right, he'd be okay.

One didn't ask why or how Dawson Grace was there, in spite of crappy weather and time loops and computers that overheated too quickly and service that threatened to terminate at any random point. One only asked why he thought it was a good idea—and that question fell on deaf ears anyway.

He remembered the last time he had dived so happily into a cave this large and approached with great caution. Still, this run already was going well since a crab hadn't mauled him on entry.

Once he made sure the cave wasn't just a thing waiting to chew on him again, Dawson quickly let his bag gobble up stones off the floor. Already definitely better this time around.
