Otto looked at the cardboard device with some level of torment. He'd have to keep that thing lying around, huh? Well, if it meant he got visited by Maebe, he supposed it was worth it. "Fine. But I get to decorate my side however I wanna."

She looked stricken with shock when he told her he was going to decorate the damn thing. What did that mean? Was he going to draw stupid faces so he could laugh at her all day? Her beautiful white cardboard was going to be tainted, TAINTED- "Fine." She quietly agreed, holding her hand out from the other side of the couch for him to shake. "It's a deal."

Otto reached out and shook her head. "Deal." He repeated back. If he was going to have to stare at a white board while talking with her, it had to at least be interesting. He'd have to think of something really good, and not just joke drawings or writing the word Boobies over and over. Something good...

His hand felt rough, like he'd been playing the drums too long or working on his outdoor projects without protection. She'd been holding it all day, but she only noticed the feel of them now. They weren't big, but they had that roughness that meant he did his job, even when life sucked for him. Her hands were too soft, too tender and perfectly unmarred. She took too long thinking about it, and found herself staring at their hands while shaking, slowly, over and over. Had his hands always been that rough, or was she only noticing things now?

Maybe she was reading his mind, silently disapproving of his abandoned idea to write that word over and over on his side of the board. Or maybe she was agonizing that he'd deface her project as if it were scrap paper. Was that why she was staring so intently at his hand, unable to let go? "Maebe?" He asked after a few moments, once it had gotten decently awkward. "If it bugs you that much I won't touch it."

"What?" Her name knocked her out of her train of thought, and she stared at him for a moment, stunned. She shook her head, letting out a soft noise of discontent through her throat, and then her smirk returned. "No, no I'm not thinking about the damn cardboard. You can paint boobies all over it if you want." She knew him a little too well. "I was just thinking about your hand." She turned his hand around in hers, so that the back of it rested on her palm. Her other hand rose to run her fingers down the lines of the palm, and traced them all the way up to the fingertips. "Your hands are rough. I can't tell if they're rougher than usual. That's what I was thinking about."

Damn. Foiled again. "Nah. Ain't as fun if you already know what I was gunna do." He sighed as if he were disappointed. He wasn't. His hands? His brows furrowed, watching her trace the lines of his hand. Part of him worried she was attaching herself too hard. Wasn't the wall a way to break that temptation of getting to touchy? But it was just his hand. "I can't really say either way. They feel the same as always to me." Were they too rough? Maybe he ought to use lotion on them; but that sounded like effort he wasn't willing to expend on skin care. Much too much effort. His hands, palms especially, had always been fairly rough from years of drumming. His handy work at Deus had only pushed it forward even more. "Yours are pretty soft. Maybe that's a girl thing."

"It's not a girl thing." She assured him, folding his hand back up with hers until she sandwiched it between both of her own. "It's a Maebe thing." She grinned, moving to give him his hand back, and get up off the couch. "Okay. I've had enough of you. Ugh." Her voice was peppered with chuckles, even as she dismissed him and walked back towards the door. "Don't do anything gross with the cardboard. Okay?" Her hands were on the doorknob, that specific doorknob, and she felt it carefully. Too rough, she noticed. The doorknob, too, was rougher than she remembered.
"Be good until I return." She whispered, over her shoulder.

He watched her leave, dismissing most of her warnings with a shrug of non commitment. "What defines good in your book?" He sassed at her from where he stood near the couch.

She turned around, his sass returned with nothing but dangerous, smouldering promise. She rose one arm up to lean against the edge of the door, and used the other one to crook a finger at him, beckoning him over. "I can't tell you what's good. I'll show you bad, and you can do the opposite of that."

Oh but that was tempting. Of course he wanted to stride right over and be shown what bad entailed. He had a pretty good idea, in fact. He held a breath in and pocketed his hands. "I'll use the best of my imagination. I'd hate to break the wall's trust." He nodded to her, staying where he was. God did he wish he didn't have to. Fighting every instinct and desire in his body, he said "See yeah later, Maebe."

Her lower lip slid between her teeth, and she was glad she'd made it to the door by now. "See you later, sweetheart." She blew him a kiss, and slid out of the door, breathing only once it was closed. She walked backwards, until she hit the wall of the hallway, and slid down it very slowly. She needed a minute to catch her breath, and cool down. But they'd done it, despite all the odds. It would only get easier from here. Maybe. (Probably not.)
