"Well.. we're friends, right?" Otto murmured, "Can't say I've felt frustrated with you." He paused. "Yet." He smirked, even if Chance probably didn't see. The exit was there, and as soon as Otto stepped out, he was rewarded with an amazing cliffside view of the ocean. There was a steep sort of decline down the side to get to the beach. The breeze tousled his hair about, and Otto let out a breath he'd likely held the whole trip.

"Yet being the key word," said Chance with a little laugh. "I've already managed to do that with the others I consider...closer, I guess, I suppose it's only a matter of time."
He sounded strangely resigned about it, as though a part of him already expected Otto to get tired of him eventually. But then they'd walked through the exit of the cave, and Chance breathed in the salty, fresh air, letting it fill his lungs, closing his eyes briefly.
"What a fantastic view," he said, turning his head to smile at Otto. He reached out and clapped a hand on the other's shoulder.

"Yeah, it's amazing." Otto murmured. "Welp. Time to take the long way around this cave." He hopped down onto a lower ledge, walking down the steep slope toward the beach. He still wanted to do a little beach combing with Chance. Maybe they'd find some runic tech, or at least a cool shell. The ocean was so close, and in it's beauty it was hard to believe bad things like mermaids and titans could be lurking about within it. Not that Otto would venture out for a swim without a flotation device anyway.

A laugh escaped him. "It's okay, it's just the scenic route," said Chance, as he jumped after Otto, sliding a little on the unsteady rock. The wind was a nice and refreshing reminder of the open air, and Chance found himself relaxing a little the more they walked.
"I don't think I've ever actually been to a beach before coming here, but it sure is giant. That ocean is ******** huge."

"I only ever saw beaches before this once a year. I had family in California, and they took me to the beach when I went. I was young though, so they usually only let me play on the shores." He got to surf with a older cousin once or twice. Poorly, of course. "My hometown had like a teeny little stream and that was about it."

"My hometown was basically a bunch of buildings and lots of drugs, sex, and crime," said Chance with a laugh, holding his arms out to either side to keep his balance as he hopped down the last few ledges to get to the beach. Sand immediately went into his shoes.
"No place for a beach," he added, casting a smile at Otto. "I didn't even really have a television either, so I couldn't even look at pictures of beaches. It was a little pathetic, I have to say."

"I forgot how different your upbringing was." Otto murmured. The blond had a lot more luxuries than he realized back then. His own bedroom. Possessions. Education, by his hard working mother. His life had not been easy, but he'd had more than most. "Guess you get beaches now, though." It explained why the man had never heard of Morgan Freeman. No TV, no nothing. "Monster infested... death trap beaches. I almost drowned in the ocean once." He mused as if recalling a nostalgic memory. "Ghost ship. Spiders in my food." He winced, the nostalgia fading.

He shrugged, his shoulders rising and falling in an easy motion. "It was mostly just a giant ******** of s**t here and there, but you know, I'm here now, so it's better."
Otto was given a smile. "It's not really something I dwell on, mostly because I figure there's no point. I am where I am, best to focus on the present, rather than all the screw ups in my past, right? But yes, I do have...monster infested death trap beaches...wait, you almost drowned?"
Chance squinted along the beach, his eyes tracing the horizon before they moved to the sand, and he crouched down, dragging his fingers through it experimentally.
"I am very thankful for the lack of insects in my food."

"Yup. Fell into a big whirlpool in the ocean. Tried to swim to the life raft but I kept getting pulled under. I dunno how I got back." Unbeknownst to himself, Otto had been pulled to safety by a fellow hunter he didn't even know. "I ain't that great at swimmin' outside a swimming pool." Otto knelt down, picking through various objects in the sand. "Well.. I dunno. Not like the cafeteria food is any better than bug soup." Otto didn't have to rely on it much, but he did often. Buying groceries was not something he could do on the island, so any fancy meals were for once in a while.

He glanced out at the ocean again and tried to imagine a whirlpool. "Well," said Chance, a little contemplatively, "If it makes you feel any better, I can't actually swim at all, so..." He tossed a smile to Otto over his shoulder. "You're already doing better than I can."
Shaking his head ruefully, Chance shifted through the sand, pressing his palm flat against the grains. They felt pleasantly cool and soft against his fingers. "Okay, well, you have a point. It's mostly like eating cardboard. But you have a fridge and a kitchen, don't you? I'm sure you could make some good stuff."

"Yeah, but food still goes bad. And it ain't like I can hop by the store on the fly." He could, sure, but freedom in Deus was an illusion, and limited. "Sides. I don't cook. I've had a lot of people cook for me, but..." He shrugged slowly. "I been noticin' I let people take care of me a lot. I don't wanna be like that no more."

"A fair point," said Chance, dredging up some of the sand and letting it slip through his fingers. He crouched lower and started to draw things, little swirls, with the his index finger, dragging it through the wetter parts of the beach.
"Do you not cook because you can't, or you just don't like cooking?"

"Both." Otto replied after a small moment of thought. "I taught myself to fry an egg, but I always burn it." "My go to meal is sandwiches."

"Well," said Chance, as he made another loop in the sand, starting to draw out what looked like a little, childish bird. "I know a fair bit about cooking myself; if you want, I could help you with cooking, if you'll help me with learning how to swim."
He shrugged a shoulder and his finger hit something small and white. Chance tugged a it for a second and came up with a tiny seashell, sand crusted on one side and smooth on the other.
"I mean, it's not like, the greatest compromise in the world, and I'll totally understand if you don't want to, but the offer's there if you decide you want to eat something other than MREs and cardboard."

"Maybe. I mean, I ain't a great swimmer anyway. I can dog paddle, and tread water. I mostly rely on kick boards when I got into an ocean or lake." His swimming skills were limited by a lack of experience. Still.. "I can teach you a bit of you can gimme some pointers to not charring my eggs. I'll even escort ya to the Full Hunter swimming pool."
