Bright red hair popped into view of the doorway, but that was all that could be seen. The boy's head immediately pulled out of sight, the sound of him inhaling sharply preceding his actual entrance. His face was visible this time, but he was no less timid, his eyes darting across every corner of the room before he vanished once again. He didn't reappear this time, only the sound of footsteps revealing that he was still there. Pacing a short distance, the boy finally peeked his head into the room again. He seemed to physically pull himself inside, his hands gripping the doorway tightly until he was finally walking forward. Averting his eyes from any living person, he let out a deep breath, lifting his chin once he inhaled.
"Mmm." His right hand searching his pocket, he revealed a card, holding it with both hands as if it were something precious. "I have this..." Still too nervous to look the professor in the eyes, he lowered his arms and stared at the card.
"Umm..." It was another failed attempt to get to the point, but he was far from ready to give up. He lifted his head with a little more motivation, holding his card out again. "Kyoshi Goshokyo, m-ma'am. I'd like a snivy." Closing his eyes half way through the sentence, his feet were restless and ready to retreat at the first sign of trouble.

Juniper hadn't seen the flash of red hair that first appeared in her doorway, but by the second time Kyoshi had peeked into her lab, Juniper looked up, thinking she had seen movement, only to catch a glimpse of the boy just before he darted out again. Tilting her head lightly in concern, she glanced back down to the form on her desk, finishing her signature and standing to hand the document to a lab assistant and try to investigate the disappearing guest, only to find that he had finally found the courage to step inside. Juniper greeted Kyoshi with a warm smile, happy that he had finally found his way in, but she was pretty sure he hadn't seen her welcoming expression, given that he didn't have the courage to so much as look her in the eye.
He mumbled something quietly, a bit too soft for the professor to hear, but he held out his Trainer ID for her to look over as he tried to introduce himself a bit louder and insist that he was looking to get a snivy. "Well, if it's a snivy you're after, you've come to the right place." Juniper chuckled softly. "Come with me Kyoshi. I have something special I want to show you." She insisted. The trainer card had displayed that the boy was only twelve years old, still quite young. Of course, the trainer academy would start licensing children to become trainers at just ten years, far too young in her opinion, especially given Kyoshi here was two years older than that minimum and still seemed so nervous and unsure of himself.
She wouldn't deny him a pokemon of course, if she did, it would not only be against protocol, but it would shatter what little confidence this boy had. No, she would certainly give him the Snivy, but perhaps a little confidence boost was in order. "Normally I would take you to an incubation room where we keep one of each of our starter pokemon on display, but you came at a really good time." Juniper explained, taking Kyoshi out through the back door of the lab. There was a small enclosed space, where several snivy were romping around, climbing trees, eating berries, and playing. "Here we are~" Juniper announced. "Around this time we take the snivy out for a little exercise and free time. Rather than me giving you one, why don't you pick one that you think best suits you?" She offered.
A single eye opened when Professor Juniper started to speak. He wasn't entirely sure what he said had actually escaped his lips, but as the blood stopped rushing to his head, his senses grasped the situation with minimal ease. Having served its purpose, Kyo examined his ID from back to front before placing it in his pocket. He took one last look around before following the professor. His curiosity getting the best of him, he would constantly stop and then rush forward as he looked around the lab. He was still reluctant to look too far upward, but did accidentally catch sigh of the professor's eyes once she started talking again. He seemed to be humming in between the pauses in her speech, but there was no tune. It was mostly the arrangement of thoughts he considered as replies.
"I-" His eyes gleamed the moment he saw them, his love of grass pokemon showing on his face. "I can really pick anyone one I want?" What followed was a yelp as if Kyo was startled by the volume of his own voice, jolting backward. His face dropping back toward the floor, he hid a smile while rummaging through his pocket again. This time a small, glistening coin slid out between his forefingers. Showing the first signs of a habit, he examined the coin closely as he did the trainer card. He already had a plan for picking out a friendly pokemon, but he didn't realize he would be using it on his first one. Taking a few steps forward, he rubbed the coin a few times then flicked it onto the ground. The first snivy that noticed it was the one that Kyo approached. As they both went for the coin, the boy merely sat and observed.
"Hello." He spoke plainly, which in itself was unusual given his quiet nature. He was far less shy in a controlled situation. He slowly picked up the coin and held it toward this snivy, inviting it to take it.

Juniper lightly noted Kyoshi lagging behind a few times as he stared in awe at the lab, but she didn't mind. Whenever he started getting distracted, she slowed her movement slightly until he caught up, and eventually they made their way out the back door where their snivy were out and about. Her plan to get Kyoshi over his nerves seemed to have worked, given that the redhead blurted out his question in excitement. "Yes, really. Your first partner is a very important part of a trainer's journey, so go ahead! Take a look around and find yourself a starter you can stick by throughout your journey." Juniper insisted, watching as Kyoshi pulled out a coin and mulled about amongst the Snivy.
Eventually he tossed the coin onto the ground and began conversing with the first snivy who approached, and interesting method of deciding, but Juniper was sure the boy had his reasons. She motioned for one of the aides to come and bring her the Snivy's pokeball. "Professor Juniper, this is highly irregular....." The aide murmured quietly, though she handed over the pokeball nonetheless. "I'm aware, now please, if you wouldn't mind fetching this young man some supplies from the storage room?" She nodded towards the door indicatively. "Y-yes ma'am..." The aide agreed, hurrying off while Juniper approached Kyoshi. "Here you are. This is that Snivy's pokeball, if this is the Snivy you want to take with you." Juniper offered, and soon the aide returned with a small cardboard box of supplies. "Ah yes, are you properly stocked for this journey young man? We have lots of pokeballs and potions here for you if you aren't." Juniper was then handed one other object. "And this, is something every new trainer needs." She offered the pokedex to Kyoshi with a smile. "Just a little helpful tool for your journey, and it would certainly help me out too." She chuckled.
Kyo watched this snivy very intently. His head rocked back and forth while studying the pokemon's movements. He seemed to be content with just watching snivy play, but the professor's words did resonate once she offered him the items. The first thing he did was hold his first pokeball at eye level. He squinted at it with a hint of disappointment, but that didn't stop him from coveting it with both hands. He always knew pokeballs looked ordinary, but he hoped something about it would impress him once he possessed a real one. Dismissing the fleeting thought, he turned back toward the snivy.
"Hey, you wanna come with me? I'll let you play whenever you want." He put the pokeball away for the moment. He had just met this creature, there was no reason to seal him away so soon. Now both his hands were held out toward snivy, the pokemon allowing him to pick it up while it still played with the coin he had given it.
"Oh... um..." Still squatting on the ground, he turned his head in the professor's direction, taking in a deep breath as if to speak. Obviously the words did not come that easily, most of his energy used to stand while not pressing his new snivy too hard in his arms.
"T-thank..." His face turning nearly as red as his hair, he shook his head rapidly and tensed all his muscles. "Thank you very much!" The episode draining more energy than necessary, the boy barely had the strength to waddle out of the room, all his possessions loaded together in his pockets, but his pokedex carried sturdily in his right hand while pointing at snivy.
- Excitement whelmed up in Noel’s chest as the train doors slid open, practically flinging himself a full foot in a jump from the train platform and skipping his way to the pathway leading deeper into Nuvema Town. It was rather small but the scent of sea breeze just invigorated him further. This was amazing! He’d never thought he’d be able to do something like this? A pokemon trainer? A pokemon adventure?! He was just giddy with excitement. It was a chance to get out and see the world; no limitations, no worries! Well maybe some worries, but there was no time to think about that.
"Isn’t this amazing, Algi?! We’re going on an adventure! We’re gonna see all kinds of things!" He chimed, the biggest grin plastered on his face as he glanced down to the Espurr clinging to his leg. The psychic pokemon was busy staring with his wide-eyed gaze at their surroundings, pausing only briefly to reach up and latch onto the set of oversized headphones that covered his own ears. After what seemed to be a moment of thought, he looked up at Noel and gave a bit of a bobbing nod. ”Esp…”
Noel of course continued grinning; he wasn’t entirely sure if that was a positive response or not from his longtime companion, but all things considered, he had to imagine that the Espurr was just as excited as he was. Without a moment of hesitation he swept Algernon up off the ground and comfortably into his arms, grin reducing to a smile as he resumed walking. "Come on! We need to find the lab so we can get registered! I hear they even give you a free pokemon! Isn’t that cool?!" He continued to ramble a bit, finally silencing as they finally arrived at a rather large building. It was pretty obvious that this was a lab; everything else looked like a house. Taking a deep breath, Noel shoved the door open with a shoulder, waltzing in and staring wide-eyed at the sight. Woooowww this place was pretty big. Like, bigger than some of the labs he’d ever seen. His parents would probably be all over the place if given the chance.
"Hello! Anyone here? I want to get registered to be a pokemon trainer!" He called out loudly, blue-eyes shifting about to look for any signs of life. Maybe everyone was on their lunch break? He always had bad timing. -

Sitting in the small office set aside just few her, Juniper poured over the last of her aide's work from the day before, her lips pursed in thought. With pen in hand she moved to start adding her own personal thoughts when, from up front, she heard the door open and someone call out. Putting a pause on her paperwork the professor stood to her feet, gave her lab coat a light dusting, and walked out onto the floor. "Hello there!" she called out before her eyes fell on a young man accompanied by an Espurr. "I take it you're the prospective trainer? Welcome, young man! I'm Professor Juniper." Stepping forward she extended a hand out to Noel. "Are you here to just become registered, or did you want a starter as well?"
- Noel perked up as Professor Juniper appeared from her office, the grin appearing as he gave her a swift bow in greeting, keeping a firm hold on Algernon as the Espurr maintained a hold on his headphones.
"Hello Professor!" He chimed, the giddiness apparent in his voice if the smile on his face wasn't enough evidence. When she inquired about whether he was just there to register or wanted a starter as well, he brightened even further.
"Sure! I mean, that's okay right?" He wasn't entirely sure how everything worked. He had Algernon and even Hyde, was it okay to get another one? If she was offering though... why not? "Sure! I'd love a starter. What all do you have?" -

Upon closer inspection Juniper saw that both trainer and Espurr wore matching headphones. As curious as ever, it was adorable all the same. With that lovely observation now made, and the giddy greeting she reserved from the trainer, the professor found herself in a more cheerful mood, her previous smile blossoming into a grin. "Of course, it's fine," she assured the white-haired boy before she turned around, gesturing for him to follow her. "Here in Unova we have Snivy, Oshawott and Tepig; grass, water and fire respectively." Leading Noel into the back she stopped next to a rather large machine, and at its top rested three pokeballs. "I'll let you see all three, just to get a better idea of what you'll like," Juniper offered before she took each pokeball to release the starters inside, one by one.
- "Thank you!" Noel gave a curt nod of appreciate as Juniper confirmed that it was alright for him to go ahead and claim a starter. Great! That made him even more excited! What could he choose? What would he choose? He’d been so caught up in his excitement it hadn’t even occurred to him to, you know, do some research. With this in mind though he promptly followed after the professor as she lead the way to a large machine, gaze going wide as he looked at it.
He stopped and listened carefully as she explained his options. Grass, water and fire, huh? He was aware that that was the standard trio for all starters. A thoughtful frown crossed his face as he considered, though immediately to astonishment as the pokemon were unleashed. "Oh wow!" Noel remarked, immediately crouching down to be at eye level with the starters while also setting Algernon down. This was straight up amazing to him, no doubt about it. With a huge grin he looked between the options; Snivy was kind of cool, it was like a leaf snake. But the Oshawott… it had this adorably huge nose that he couldn’t help reaching out and poking, which the otter didn’t seem to quite appreciate. It was hard to resist though. The Tepig though caught his attention as it snuffled its way over, snout nudging at Algernon curiously, causing the Espurr to bristle just a bit and move to cling back to Noel. The white-haired lad grinned as the little fire pig looked up and sniffed at him as well. Ah, an explorative type! He like that.
"I’ll take this one!" Noel chimed as he offered a hand out to let the Tepig sniff before moving to getting pat it on the head. He scooped the pig up to hold it up, still smiling before looking back to the professor. "Yeah! Tepig, right? I love it; it’s adorable!" He mused, lowering the pokemon back to the ground. He certainly didn’t want to make it uncomfortable or anything by lifting it up to much. With that done he turned his attention back to the professor. "Is there anything else I need to do? I’ve still got to register right?"

With a nod Juniper returned the Snivy and Oshawott once Noel had made his decision, the water type more than happy to be returned after its nose had been so rudely poked. "Looks like you two are already getting along, fantastic. I'll just go ahead and give you this." Taking a few steps forward the woman handed the new trainer his starter's pokeball, perking up when he mentioned becoming registered. "Yes, of course! I'll just need your name and I'll get you all registered." While Juniper was getting Noel's information two aides approached, each holding a few items. "Ah, thank you! Here you are, young man." Taking the pokedex first she made sure to register it in Noel's name before handing over the device. "Here's your official pokedex, as well as a few potions and pokeballs to get you started." She gestured towards the two necessities, of which the other aide was still holding onto. "I hope you have a wonderful journey!"

- Noel gave the other two starters a wave goodbye as they disappeared back into their pokeballs, attention resuming on Juniper as she discussed registration, grinning at her remark. Well he was happy to hear that! That was a good start, right? "Thank you!" He chirped, taking the pokeball for the Tepig and quickly clipping it beside the other two on his belt. He’d let Algernon associate with the pig for a bit and maybe once they were moving he’d think up a good name for his new pokemon as well!
"Ah! It’s Noel. Noel Yorke." He replied as the professor went about registering him, rocking on his heels as he waited glancing over at the aides as they appeared with even more supplies. Oh wow! They really did set you up nicely for your adventure didn’t they? "Thank you very much!" Noel took the pokeballs and potions and slung his backpack off his back to store them away. He almost couldn’t contain his excitement! Grasping the pokedex in both his hands he grinned once more and gave a proper bow. "Thank you Professor Juniper! I will, I promise!" With excitement bubbling once more he glanced down to Algernon and his newly acquired Tepig. "Come on you two, let’s get moving!" He ushered along, giving the professor a wave goodbye as he herded his pokemon back to the front and out the lab door. It was time for an adventure! Probably.

The steady bass rolled deliciously through Adrian's mind and gently wrapped him in its thrall. With a content sigh, he allowed his head to rest back against his seat as the train lumbered on. Tapping his foot in time to the beat, he quickly lost himself to the music and the book he was reading. He was so immersed in his own world that he almost completely missed the soft rapping on his knee. Silver blue eyes met the hazel gaze of the young boy who sat across from him as Adrian lowered his kindle.
With a gentle smile, Adrian plucked one earbud from his ears before addressing the boy. “Yes? How can I help you?”
“Isn't this your stop, mister?” the boy inquired while his mother gave Adrian an apologetic smile.
“Last call for Nuvema Town,” the conductor's voice rang out from further down the car.
The shock on Adrian's face was palpable as he quickly realized that the train had indeed stopped and had been at rest for a while. Doing his best to keep his plight to himself, Adrian offered the boy and his mother another smile as he swiftly climbed to his feet and began to gather his things. “It is indeed, my good sir. Thank you catching my attention. But how did you know this was my stop?”
“He said Nuvema Town when he punched your ticket,” the boy responded as he pointed at the conductor before his mother made him lower his hand with a quiet mention of how it was rude to point at people. The frown that darkened the boy's brow at being reprimanded quickly vanished when Adrian gave him a wink and a grin. “And I have a good memory,” the boy stated.
“Indeed you do,” Adrian said as he swung his bag up onto his shoulder. “You saved me from a rather fearsome foe.”
“I did?”
“Yeah, and he is called embarrassment,” Adrian said with a grin before offering both the now chuckling mother and her son a bow. “Now I must wish you both a safe journey, my good sir and madam.”
“Bye, mister!” the boy's cry followed Adrian as he stepped off the train and into the bright sunlight that dappled through the trees of Nuvema Town. Grin still firmly in place, Adrian made the quick walk toward the building that he surmised was the Pokemon Lab. Sliding through the door in time to the music still playing in one ear, he glanced around the bustling lab. Scientists moved between machines, so immersed in the constant flow of data that they paid Adrian no heed as he strolled deeper into their midst.
Placing his hands in his pants pocket, Adrian moved over to an empty desk and leaned against it, content to watch the rush of activity around him for a moment. The truth was it gave him time to consider his options. On top of the particular desk he chose sat three open files that each displayed the three starters available. Hmm...So his choices were Snivy, Tepig, or Oshawott? Adrian scanned each file briefly before he came to decision. He knew which one he would like but he refused to drag a Pokemon with him if that Pokemon decided that it didn't want him as its trainer.
When one assistant, who had his nose in the file he was reading, nearly wandered into a nearby desk, Adrian's hand flashed out to grab the back of the man's lab coat and pulled him out of harms way. Feeling he had been ignored for long enough, Adrian refused to released the assistant until the man looked up at him. Adrian met the scientist's annoyed expression with merely a raised eyebrow as he paused his music and removed the other earbud.
“Excuse me, my good man,” Adrian said, ignoring the man's irked sigh, “I wish to speak with Professor Juniper about procuring my starter. Where might I find her?”

The lab was not bustling without reason. Professor Juniper had made another trip to Chargestone cave to try and find the origins of klink, seeing as all the world knew so far was that the steel type pokemon had seemingly appeared out of nowhere 100 years ago in that very cave. With her trip, the professor was sending lots of information back to the lab, and it was the aides' job to analyze the data. Unfortunately Adrian had come at quite a busy time while researchers ran to and fro, gathering papers, bringing files to computers, typing information down, and yelling instructions across the room. None of them could really pay much mind to the young man who had walked into the lab unannounced, except for one unfortunate–or fortunate, depending on your point of view; Adrian had just prevented the man from running right into a desk after all–aide whom had been grabbed and pulled aside. Since it seemed that the young man wasn't going to let the aide go about his business in spite of his irritated looks and the obviously busy atmosphere, he straightened and pushed his glasses further up his nose to inspect the trainer more closely. "Chargestone cave." He said bluntly. "The professor is conducting research there, and we are trying to keep up with her data, so if you would like to speak with her, I suggest you be patient and wait for her return like the rest of us." He insisted with a frown.
With that, he would have turned to take the folders in his hand to his intended location, but Professor Juniper walked in just then, as if on cue. "Speaking of which...." He muttered, turning around and moving towards the professor along with a few other aides, each one bustling with questions on their work and her analysis. "Alright alright settle down, we've got a lot of work to do. Jeremy, did you bring me file U-599?""Yes professor, here you are." The aide Adrian had grabbed handed over the three folders in his arms for inspection. "Beautiful, lets see what we've got. I hope someone was able to get me an analysis of those EMP readings, otherwise we're going to fall behind!~" Juniper insisted in a sing song tone, and the other aides surrounding her quickly dispersed to try and gather up the requested information. Juniper licked the tip of her thumb, flipping through one of the folders, her eyes searching for something specific in the document, but soon she glanced up, noticing Adrian's unusual presence by her desk. "Oh! No one told me about a guest." She smiled cordially at Adrian, closing the folder with a snap. "Goodness gracious, these aides.... What can I do for you, hm? Let me take a guess...." A smile stole across Adrian's face as he straighten his posture and stepped away from the desk. "You have me dead to rights, Madam," he said warmly. He almost swept into a bow but straighten quickly before he completed it. People normally did not greet each other with a bow. That would be too odd, wouldn't it? Sensing his own discomfort with at the thought of what others may think of him, Adrian shook off his uneasiness with a shrug and then proceeded into a deep bow. Let them think what they wished. This was the way he was raised and there was no shame in it.
"I am indeed here for my starter, " he continued with a grin as he came back up from the bow. "Though I highly doubt your research would be boring in the slightest." With a quick yet casual stride, Adrian fell in beside Professor Juniper and, on reflex, offer her his arm. His courteous smile remained in place as he said "To be honest, I've had my eye on Snivy. I think it would be a perfect starter but I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts." With his free hand, Adrian gently gestured for the professor to lead the way.
