As the battle dragged on, Zero spent much of the remainder of it just fighting Liza. Tate's Claydol only took a few more attacks to take down, and that left him without any more pokemon to fight with. Meanwhile however, Liza still had each of her's left. And unfortunately, he didn't have the same type advantages over her team as he did her brother's.
The fighting would continue on and on until Zero finally whittled Liza's pokemon down. Her Xatu proved rather annoying though, constantly confusing his pokemon to keep them hitting themselves. Her Lunatone on the other hand was significantly less challenging, as as soon as she sent her still-sleeping pokemon in, he quickly followed suit with Ashen. Within only a few hits, she was down to her last pokemon too. Hypno put up a good fight, but once Zero finally cornered it, so to speak, it went on the defensive. The Protect's barrier held for two strikes by Ashen's Solarbeam. But as soon as it began to falter, the silver-haired boy quickly jumped on the opportunity. Both Nova and Ashen fired off their most powerful attacks on the Hypno, who's barrier had failed, and was soon consumed by the combined attack. Once the dust settled, the Hypno was, as expected, out cold, and with that, the battle was won.

As Liza returned her pokemon, Tate pulled from his pocket a badge, and she a TM, before they both approached. "That was a very... interesting, battle," he said, extending his hand. "I don't think we've ever had one like it," his sister continued, handing over the TM as well. "Congratulations," they finished together.

"Interesting is certainly one way of putting it," Zero chuckled. "Glad I could mix things up a bit for you." He took his badge and the discs handed to him, taking a moment to pause as he examined the heart-shaped metal. "...Thank you." He placed his items wherever they needed to go before heading out the door.
Before heading off back to Lilycove, he made a quick stop into the Pokemon Center. It was a long battle, so he was sure his pokemon might need it. Even if it only took a few moments, the fatigued Zero felt like it was hours before his pokemon were returned. He almost jumped just from the nurse speaking up again, handing him his pokemon. Taking them, he shook his head, trying to at least shake some of his weariness away.
Once outside, he released Ashen once again, preparing to fly back to Lilycove. Zero climbed on the dragon's back, holding on tightly. "Alright, Ashen," he began, pointing with his hand outstretched. "Back to Lilycove!" The dragon nodded in response, and flapped his wings as he rose up into the sky. Within seconds, they were moving quickly back to his hometown. [Exit to Lilycove.]

In a blink, Zero felt himself cease to exist for a brief instant, his being simply rushing through a vast blur that he couldn't discern as anything but a blob of color as an intense sense of vertigo overtook him. But in the following, fraction of an instant, he was righted back in the world, standing beside the pokemon center of a somewhat familiar city in the middle of Hoenn with a faithful psychic at his side. However, all of that was lost on him as he fell to his knees almost immediately, gasping slightly while clutching his chest. He'd hoped that the intense feeling he'd had before was simply due to his first attempt at this being done in the Distortion World, but it quickly became apparent that the lack of adrenaline before the initial teleport made it nearly unbearable. It wasn't painful, per say, but quite simply the young man just wasn't prepared for the sensation. Fortunately, a soothing glow enveloped him, as Nova knelt beside him, her hand still resting on his shoulder. "Perhaps it's a dumb question, but are you alright?"
"I am now, thanks," He reassured his Gardevoir, gently brushing off the gloved hand from his shoulder. He took a few more moments to compose himself again, but soon after he rose back to his feet, only to find the very real fatigue brought on by both the day and the transport itself weigh on him. His eyelids felt heavy, and he let out an audible yawn, before looking up at the sky. It wasn't night just yet, but it did seem to be getting late, as the sun began to set. Taking a deep breath, Zero looked over to the pokemon center beside him, before finally addressing his pokemon once again. "What's say we rest for the remainder of the day? We're going to be getting back to training soon enough, but it... Probably wouldn't hurt to take one, last chance to recuperate before we finally get back to training."
Nova smiled widely at this, bringing her hands together as she responded. "I think that sounds great, just... Try not to push yourself once we do get things started again tomorrow." She chuckled lightly striking his shoulder playfully with the back of her hand. "We wouldn't want other trainers thinking you're not taking proper care of your pokemon because of all these loose hairs you keep giving me." She joked, of course, but the message itself was meant to be taken seriously. The absolute last thing she needed was for him to take this opportunity of being alone again to slip right back into his depression.
Zero simply waved her off however, laughing weakly as he turned to start walking again. "Right, well, I certainly can't make any promises. I think I'll still have to rely on you to keep me in line." After that, he started on his way into the pokemon center, his legs feeling heavier with each step along the way as he reached the familiar counter top where a redhead stood behind, getting himself a room for the night and heading off to crash in his place to stay for the night, the shadow at his feet almost receding ever so slightly as the dim lights hung overhead, until he finally reached the room he'd be staying in.

Upon reaching his room, Zero lumbered over to the situated against the far wall, before collapsing onto it face-first. He crashed into the soft cushions with an exhausted breath, fatigue clearly having taken its toll despite the relatively mundane activities of the day. He never would've thought keeping up appearances and failing at that would prove so tiring, and he flipped onto his back as he finally got a chance to properly rest. Sure, they hadn't done much, but he was far from pleased with how the day ultimately went... Or with how it felt to be teleported so suddenly, but that was a different matter entirely. Didn't help that neither his nor Leon's opinions on each other seemed to improve any, which likely meant Isis was probably going to have some words to say once she'd gotten back...
But that seemed to feel less important in the immediate as the boy's eyes felt heavy, and the subtle assistance of his Gardevoir made him yern for sleep more and more. Eventually, he finally sat up, tugging down the facemask of the costume he himself had neglected to return. It was nice; he quite liked the leather coat, the hat, and the cloth he could cover his face with. As long as he didn't mess it up, he could probably hold onto it for a little while, Machina wouldn't get too mad, right? He chuckled to himself quietly at his own musings, before he finally turned to his only companion in the room, Nova, who stood a few steps beside the bed, small bags Zero hadn't noticed before now under her eyes. With one of his own gradually sliding shut, Zero finally addressed her once again. "Alright, Nova, I think you need some rest yourself. I'll be fine for one night, so just relax for now." Though clearly reluctant, the Gardevoir didn't do anything to stop her trainer as he reached for her pokeball. She certainly was getting tired as well, and odds were she'd just pass out too early to be helpful if she watched over him tonight.
With Nova having conceded, Zero simply returned her to that small orb that acted as her portable home, leaving him all on his own once again. Too tired to really dwell on his own thoughts however, the boy simply reached to shut off the lights in the room, cloaking himself in darkness as he laid down to sleep. He drifted off quietly, not a sound waking him as his consciousness faded... But still, something stirred within the shadows, a small clump of blackness beginning to form at the foot of his bed...

The voices echoed in his mind as darkness enveloped him, a black void stretching as far as he could see. The trainer tried to look down at the rest of his body, but in the absence of light he couldn’t so much as see the bridge of his nose. He lacked the ability to feel any aspect of his body, making him unsure if there was even anything there to begin with. Those words still hung in the air, however, and he could feel them resonating through whatever form he had in this dark void.
You’ve wrought a terrible fate, haven’t you?
For an instant, something flashed in the void, reflecting off some unseen lightsource before zooming in front of him. For the briefest instant, he glimpsed his reflection in that mirror of antilight, finding little more than a white ball of flame burning in the darkness, the orb-like base barely any larger than a fist with embers fading into the black. His vision darkened again as if closing his eyes, the sensation he felt when exhaling deeply following suit. When he opened his eyes again and he prepared to stare back into the void, he instead found himself within an endless blue, an ocean that stretched as far as the eye could see, with only vague silhouettes acting out a routine burned into his memory. Had he the body, he would’ve grimaced, watching the figures practically dance about; a boy dragged beneath the waves, a friend diving down to save him, before being restrained by the tendrils. The larger, beast-like form suddenly recoiled, a flurry of limbs writhing before taking another hold on the second party, and the flame turned away before what came next. As he turned away however, the boy was horrified by a far more haunting image, every fiber of his very soul trying to scream as he turned to see it. With no mouth, he screamed into nothingness as dead, hollow eyes bored into his very being, practically aglow from behind a shroud of golden locks, with lips eternally contorted into a blank expression of pure judgement, all of which came together to make the severed head of someone held truly dear. Her lips opened, and mouthed the words slowly as no sound escaped, but the words rang heavier in his mind.

The world went blank again, and he returned to the world without light. The small flame huffed and pulsed, as if breathing heavily, and in another brief flash, the mysterious mirror returned once again. This time, the flame seemed just a touch larger, but surrounded by another, notably larger one that, by some odd trick of light, seemed to only outline him. When it disappeared, his vision darkened once again, and the image hung in his mind for some time, strangely comforting him as a faint sensation seemed to p***k him, despite still lacking any form of body.
When he opened his eyes this time, the scene playing before him was much more calming. Surrounding his vision was a dense forest, stretching on without end as he saw a young man and woman traveling through them. The boy was only slightly taller than the girl, his eyes covered by the shadow cast by his silver hair and the girl’s by her golden locks, the two evidently discussing something despite a lack of sound, something that he was noticing was quite the theme hanging overhead. Still, he watched regardless, along for the ride as the pair entered a strange town, where tree huts made up the homes, and a building with a long, brown roof standing in the center. They went into this building, for a brief time, but then returned soon after, two orbs of black hovering beside them as the boy seemed to have a shadow cast over him.
The world sped up a bit at this point, and they all became blurs as time moved forward. They moved on to another city, before crossing a great distance towards another. Then, the world fogged up, and when it cleared, they stood within an elegant ballroom, where a number of blank faces seemed to populate the room as silhouettes, while the lighting seemed far dimmer than they should have been. Then, the lights shut off, and in a flash of red he could hear the screaming resonating through his mind. The world resumed its normal pace, and the pair now stood with the crowd against a hoard of grotesque horrors, all comprised of unnatural biologies and otherworldly geometries. A sheet of living, blue steel was between the pair and the beasts, a hovering tank sporting two powerful arms and a pair of deep, crimson eyes. But there were others who had similar defenses up, and nearly all fought these abominations in their own fashions. The boy clutched his chest tightly, and the girl leaned into him for support as he, whether realizing it or not, did the same, while the large chandelier swung violently overhead. A violent, crippling pulse then erupted from the boy’s chest, time freezing as the sensation echoed powerfully into the observer, his perspective being thrust over the silver-haired boy’s shoulder.
From there, he witnessed numerous possibilities; the boy plants his feet firm and fights through the pain, standing through willpower alone as his body threatens to cease all functions where he stood. Before that could happen though, a loud snap of metal rang out through the ballroom, and he watched as the chandelier fell from its spot, hurdling towards the ground. The boy realized with only a few precious moments to react, and without thinking he took hold of the girl beside him before throwing them both to the ground. He held the woman tightly and did his best to cover her, as shrapnel and glass ripped through the entire room, flowing in with a violent storm as it swirled around, carried by the wind. Shards of metal and glass shredded his entire side, and countless fragments dug into his back. His ear was destroyed as a large chunk slammed into him, blood splattering everywhere as the ground around him was caked with his own, gaping wounds pooling below him and seeping onto the horrified girl. Before long, he collapses, his wounds too great and without any ceremony or words, perishes atop one he treasured.
But that was only one of the possibilities, as he saw countless span before him with a number of solutions, regardless of whether they truly worked. In the very next the boy collapses to the earth, bringing the girl with him, as that metal ruptured through the world around them. He attempted to stand and move, but ultimately failed as shrapnel was mere instants away. Without any cover or protection, they were both shredded through, the girl taking the brunt of things as he lacked the strength to move anything. Before the storm finished, the girl’s grip loosened, and she fell to the earth as he met a similar fate.
In yet another possibility, the boy screams out a command, something incoherent and slurred as he could tell, but it got the attention of the wall guarding them. It watched as the trainers began to fall, and realizing what was about to happen, dashed forward to cover them. However, without enough space to properly cover either of them, the metal wall is forced to throw the girl aside, in hopes of at least protecting the one who commanded it. The boy’s fading gaze locked with his companion’s for but a moment, before that sickening crash of metal impacting and warping against solid marble. It cuts off more abruptly than the others, undoubtedly due to the sheer trauma of the chance, but the list just seemed to go on and on. The boy is so frozen by trying to think of what could happen, what he could do––What he can do?––that he simply collapses before he could make any judgement, well before the chandelier came loose and hurdled to the ground. The boy began to fade, and the flame was pulled away as a black mass suddenly enveloped the pair, instead taking all the glass and metal shards that were soon ripping through the air. One familiar step after another played out before him; the thick, beam of energy that then tore through the dark being’s side, followed by the boy’s saving and the rest of the battle raging. Before long, things faded again, and transitioned to a room made of a sterile white. In the middle was a table where the black beast laid motionless, the girl bawling over its body as she mourned. She seemed to sink a little, a darkness beginning to weigh her down. But for the boy, it was more like chains were dragging him, as he started to sink into the floor where he stood, as motionless as a corpse, his legs eventually taken before that damnable phrase appeared once again.

At that, the man grew hotter, feeling fury as he turned away yet again. This time, he turned into the void, that sterile room ceasing to exist as he returned to that darkness. Yet again, his reflection came, and another flame outlining him was visible around the other two. This one appeared to outline the form he was far more familiar with, human in shape as he realized he had a body to move again. Experimentally, he looked down and around, moving his body as he could in the blank space before dragged into yet another haze.
The world was drenched in a thick, revolting fog, a red with the consistency of milk as the boy from before stood in front of another; an older male he recognized as the boy’s savior from the previous vision who stood tall, well defined, and capped with a head of raven black. Despite the fog, the man seemed to stand out easily, almost unshrouded by it, in contrast to the boy who seemed dipped in a thick, black muck. The two stood apart from each other from some time, the space between them seeming a deeper hue than the rest of the fog, but eventually they moved to break the stalemate. The boy was first––The quickest to raise his hand against the man––before his hand swiped to the side. The gesture wasn’t one of lethal intent, if anything it appeared more like someone simply pushing another aside, but it proved to be anything but. The boy’s hand simply passed through the man, causing that well detailed figure to suddenly burst into smoke, mixing with the fog all too well. The remaining male seemed to look on, as he found himself alone, his expression lost as the one watching began to lose vision as the misty fog grew deeper and darker, eventually being blotted out entirely.
When his vision returned and he looked about, he found himself seated quietly in a chair, seating in a far corner, of a room, where he could see a group of familiar people conversing with each other. Along a couch sat a young brunette, though the oldest in the room with hair that descended well beyond her waist, and beside her, sat another girl who was only narrowly younger. Her hair was a short silver, shimmering in the light as she spoke. A black, hooded long coat was folded neatly in her lap, as she instead wore a simple grey t-shirt, with a pair of matching shorts. He recognized her instantly; This was the friend who dove beneath the waves just what felt like an eternity earlier, where her arm was severed from her body by the strength in a single tendril far greater than any human. Yet, here she was, with both arms of flesh and blood, as if there had never been any sort of accident. Beside her, another was clearly meant to sit, but for a reason that he could not explain, that end of the couch was empty, devoid of whatever occupant it was meant to have, despite the outline and indentation of someone who was clearly meant to be sitting there.
Seated in a chair by that empty end of the couch, he could only really see the back of an older gentleman’s head. He was fairly tall, and his hair sported a dull, faded grey, where only faint streaks of a snowy white hinted at what once was. He occasionally let out a weak cough, but otherwise he appeared quite healthy, a smile on his face that one could simply feel even when looking at him from behind. Completely opposite of him, however, by the other side of the couch, and with a glass coffee table between them, was a sight that he actually felt rather calmed by. The pair from earlier, that ashen-haired boy and his blonde companion, seated together in a single seat, the latter settled in the boy’s lap as they conversed freely. They hugged, kissed, and occasionally huddled closer together when they needed to get comfortable again, which made him feel something akin to happiness…Yet, somehow, he couldn’t help but find himself bitter towards it. As if something was wrong, like it shouldn’t be that way, even if it seemed like it was exactly how he wanted things. The boy got the girl and he’s surrounded by people who all care about him, and they’re all in good health! So why did it all just feel so… empty.
”Mere props on a stage of life,” A singular, defined voice finally echoed through the world, and the people gathered around seemed to freeze completely. Surprised, he turned to what he could tell was the source of the voice, slowly bringing into view another young man who’d been sitting beside him seemingly the entire time. His hair was a pure, blazing white, slicked back and matching the wide cloak that covered him. His face was blank and expressionless, devoid of any tells that might show what he was thinking. His eyes visibly burned, glowing a haunting azure as they left trails whenever he moved slightly. “But no matter how tender, how exquisite…A lie will remain a lie.” The people who were just a moment ago vibrant and animated, suddenly fell over from their chairs, proving to be little more than flat, cardboard cutouts, which slowly faded away after they were removed. The only remaining person rose from his chair, barely any taller than anyone who’d been in the room just a moment ago, and began to speak once more. ”I won’t see you fall, friend, not like this,” he said, facing the melting scene before them. ”This place… If it becomes your home,” He suddenly turned to the bright flame that gradually began to take on a human form. ”It will only be your tomb.” In an instant, a single blink, the world flashed away, putting him back in the void, with the young man standing before him. Without another word, he simply turned away, walking forward into the void as light flooded in, tailing directly behind him, before it enveloped everything around them.
Things finally started to come to an end, as everything that flame witnessed zoomed ahead. The ocean, the severed head, the ball, the countless possibilities, and finally, the ideal that was simply too perfect, that even he couldn’t hold onto it. But with a rush of emotions that came from all these things, from regaining his ability to sense and feel the world around him, he found himself overwhelmed, and with a shout that echoed through the building he slept in, the young trainer rose from his bed, drenched in a cold sweat, as he awoke with eyes wide open. When his eyes adjusted, and he could finally calm down, his gaze rose to meet the dark clump of shadow he found hovering over the foot of his bed, a source of nightmares, the images that have haunted him unrelentingly. Its body resembled a white cloak, or possibly even a dress, with a light blue collar covering its neck. A pair of red eyes stared down at him softly, almost sympathetic as he stared back, and capped off with what almost seemed like hair, billowing out softly in gold, almost burning like a torch. A voice, a singular voice of a woman now asked the question, an unmistakable sorrow weighing upon it.
