Wrathful Shapeshifter

Banneth pressed the concerns of the younger bronze from his thoughts. He had made his point, Evmeth had made her point, and he was quite done with making points. He followed, wings beating after the golden queen and gave a deep rumble of satisfaction as she dove. This was one area that he exceled at.
He twisted, wings folding in sharply and followed Evmeth down towards the lake the glee of the air screaming pass him.

Totals
Banneth : 45
Banneth: 21 + 19+ 5 = 45 -1 time bronze = 44

Hazmath cooed and tipped himself down and nearly unbalanced when he pulled his wings in late, half stalling in the air. Ooposie. He rumbled cheerfully following at a slower place then the heavier dragons.

Hazmath: 40
Hazmath: 29 +6+5 = 40 - 2 blue =38

[Calanoth (Brown -1+5) 40]

Cal was back on track with the intruding gold bejng handled by others. His attention focused once again on Evmeth and he cursed the distance that had grown between them. Thus when her challenge came it was greeted with enthusiasm from the brown and he folded his wings, trumpeting loudly his delight as he arched recklessly after her.

[Malcarreth: 24 - 2 = 22. 22 + 5 + 6 = 33]

Malcarreth wasn't sure he entirely believed Evmeth, clearly something was wrong, but that was hardly his priority just at the moment. Twisting in the air like a cat the small blue followed Evemth's course as closely as he could. When the gold dived he dived too, sweeping into a near vertical stoop and making tiny twitches of his wings to keep himself on course. the blue observed to Evmeth with a feeling of approval; she was indeed rather sprightly for a gold. Anyway he approved of any test of agility that might take out a bronze or two.

Speaking of being taken out, that was very nearly the blue's own fate a moment later as a large brown swerved into his path. Malcarreth hissed, managing to dodge the great bulk just barely but losing speed because of it. the blue added dryly as he dove once more. This time he as he plunged he swept into a tight spin like a child's toy top. he called to the gold with a mental chuckle; despite himself and despite the stupid time-gold and the stupid brown in his way he was having a good time. He might not be at the front of the pack but there was time yet to make up for it and with C'tis mind weaving ever closer with his own he began to forget his pessimism. They could win this.

[Pycath: 10 - 1 = 9. 9 + 10 = 19]

Pycath had been willing to give up his chance in the flight - well not willing but prepared at least - but with so many other dragons now converging on the foreign queen he saw no need to linger himself, especially after Evmeth's reprimand. he sent to his wingleader as he peeled off and - as Evmeth dived past him - angled his wings down to give chase.

Unless that gold happened to come within striking distance, one couldn't turn an opportunity like that down!

[Calanoth (Brown -1) 49]

(second roll for cal. sanu taking static 3)

Where his ascent had been slow and steady, Calanoth's dive was swift and powerful. Easily he seemed to close the gap that had grown between himself and the leaders of the pack. This gain encouraged him to take a further risk and he held himself carefully as the blue of the lake below filled his vision. Haha! Better a mountain than a pebble huh Malcarreth? Fancy tricks will only slow you down! His eyes whirled bright as he offered some 'friendly advice' to his wingmate.

Calanoth waited as long as he dared and then a moment further before thrusting his wings wide and halting his momentum before he crashed into the water below. There was a surge of pride (and relief) as the maneuver worked as he'd hoped. The speed he'd gained carried him through the lowest part of his dive, close to the lake's surface and back into the air to rejoin the others.

~...~

Sanuyeth snapped her teeth and huffed.Can you seriously call her a guest when she's screaming for YOUR ichor? I don't know about your tastes but I'd never let a tunnelsnake, even a small one, warm my weyr. The young green directed at Evmeth but broadcasted to anyone listening. She swerved after the males, once again putting herself between Sereth and Evmth. You'd back down if you were smart.

[Malcarreth: 33 - 2 = 31. 31 + 6 = 37]

Down, down, down!

Malcarreth dropped past Calanoth, twirled out of his spiral and shot across the surface of the lake. The blue came so close to crashing into the water that the rush of air from his wings threw up ripples in his wake. While this left him rather lower than was perhaps ideal, and having to keep his course very steady indeed, Malcarreth refused to think of it of a disadvantage especially after Calanoth's comment. he replied, The small blue had kept his gaze focused on Evmeth as he spoke, and now he crooned to her.

[Pycath: 19 - 1 = 18. 18 + 9 = 27]

Pycath gave a snort of amusement at the banter between his wingmates but at present had nothing to add to it himself, he had a lot of ground to make up from pulling back to intercept Sereth. Hopefully the foolish little thing would give up her tantrum soon, otherwise he might find himself being told to go after her again.

[Absoth = 8 + 5 + 9 = 22]

Absoth sent to Caldweth urgently. With that passed on the lanky bronze banked to follow Evmeth's course and when she dived.... he exclaimed to the queen dragon - including the others in the air in his words too - as he sought to match her course.

[Morth = 21 + 5 + 16 = 42]

Humm, help from the strangers? Morth sent to Kelilayth privately. As Banneth hadn't included him in his words Morth was unaware that he was repeating the idea, though he wouldn't have much cared even if he had known; a sensible idea was a sensible idea and that was that.

Diving was not a sensible idea. Diving took the flight lower, why would she waste her energy so? The higher they rose the better for the clutch, but a gold did as she willed in her own flight and there was no fighting that. the small bronze replied, calling aloud with a bugle as he dived.

Ah, and one of his wingriders was in need of a word or two. he said privately, his tones cool and carrying a whisper of steel.

Bronze Kelilayth | Time Dragon | modifier = -1 +5
@16 →26

Kelilayth was thrilled with the challenge and continued to follow her as he tucked in his wings and dove along with the others. When Morth replied, he stayed silently for a moment.

<"Already on that Keli.">

Keli waited yet another moment before replying to Morth.

<Tiaeth. Leave her. We will intervene if she tries anything further.> He contemplated what Banneth had asked of them.

Vesin stormed angrily through the halls. "Vos. Keli said that Banneth and another named Morth asked for us to go check on Nersha, one to make sure she's okay and the other to talk some sense into her. Though I want to make sure she's okay as much as I'd like to punch her, talking some sense into her is much more practical..." Ever the critical thinker, Vesin was still very angry.

[Absoth = 22 + 10 = 32]

A not entirely safe distance from the surface of the lake Absoth pulled up and chirped to Evmeth. Should sort the dragons from the hatchlings too!

Ugh! But up ahead of him was the small dark shape of Morth, this was unacceptable! Beating his wings hard the sinuous bronze strove to catch up with his rival.

[Morth = 42 + 2 = 44]

Morth played it a little safer than some of his competitors, pulling up a couple of dragonlengths from the water. Focused a he was on Evmeth he didn't notice Absoth's sudden focus on him. he replied to Kelilayth,

Weary? Evmeth said her rider was weary? She was half falling over, and dazedly trying to claim his rider's weapon! Zaqueth's eyes remained yellow white as he hung back a little from the rush of action that followed Evmeth's dive, keeping his eyes trained on Sereth. he sent to his rider, nudging into his sense to see how Shylla fared. Who was responsible for this, whatever it was, and had any harm been intended? he said, as much to himself as to his rider.

Banneth – 9-1=8 / 44+ 8 = 52
He perhaps pulled up a little late, wings skimming over the water slightly but in all, it was a rather lovely dive. He flew steady eyes focused on Evmeth. He zigzagged over the surface, tail dipping in the lake to send up a spray of water behind.

Hazmath 2-2= 0

Hazmath found himself unable to pull up and with a shock and a bugle of surprised, loudly splashed into to water. He bubbled in surprise, splashing up to the surface and announced.

Bronze Kelilayth | Time Dragon | Modifier = -1
@26 → 31

Kelilayth's spirit was rising slightly from the thrill. He pulled up a safe distance from the water, but not quite as early as Morth. He decided not to answer Morth further though, as he didn't think it was necessary. Were anything else to happen communication could be established again. For now, he told himself he should focus on the flight once more as he was a little behind most of the others.

[Pellinorth is… out? Distracting Sereth? He’s doin’ something over thar. SORRY EVMETH :C You are beautiful and maybe next time it would be really lovely? :c Kyoth is at 8, rolling for a dive at -1 for brown, +5 from last round, total at 27]

Kyoth obligingly tucked in his wings and plunged, the young brown letting out a shrill shriek of delight - it was not unlike what he had done with his rider when she plunged from his back at ridiculous heights. Although he was clumsy in the air, it was easy to turn your body and just… fall. Fall fast, and fall hard, and snap your wings out just right with a delighted bellow of right at the last moment, gliding so close to the water his claws dragged in it before he pulled back up just a touch. Every part of him sung with the joy of youth and strength, the young brown broadcasting it at the top of his ‘voice’. We are beautiful!>

The statement was a little out of character for the dour brown - but then, he was buoyed up by the whole event.

Bronze Tiaeth- Time Dragon - Modifier= -1

He did not like it. It was utter foolishness to allow Sereth to continue in this flight, yet Evmeth refused to see. Tiaeth rumbled his uncertainty and reached out to his rider. What should I do Vosmine?

Vos stopped and took a deep breath. Continue the flight if that's what she wants. We are not accountable for her stupidity. Who exactly she was talking about remained unsaid though.

The small time bronze sighed and turned back to join the flight. As you wish Evmeth. It went against his better judgement though if its what she wanted then he wouldn't stop her. He folded his wings to dive toward the water.

Tiaeth arched gracefully out of his dive and sent up a spray of water with his tail for fun. I am coming Keli. His mood was calming. This was much funner than fighting off some arrogant gold.

"Talk? More like smack." She followed after her twin, and tried not to let her emotions run away with her. Vos eyed Ves who thought talking was more practical. Uh nope.

Shylla curled her fingers into S'ol's chest, grinding her teeth, but at his prompting she stopped reaching for a blade. "...You're right," she murmured, resting her head on his shoulders. He was warm, after all, and she was so very, very tired. There was some amount of clamoring in the distant halls, and Shylla thought she heard footsteps, but between the intense emotions from Evmeth and her own slippery grasp on consciousness, it was entirely too much effort to open her eyes.

"I'm just...I don't want them to hurt Evmeth, she doesn't know what they'll do to her," she whimpered, after a grumble of concentrated effort. The weyrmistress's head began to lull, but after a moment she started awake, blinking her eyes slowly to regain her bearings. "No, gotta focus...we should go inside, it's safer there." Tugging weakly at S'ol's hand, she began to lumber back through the threshold of the door, her eyes wearily set on her bed. "If I could just...rest a moment..."

Evmeth herself took no chances with her dive--well before the water's edge, she began to tilt her wings, gradually pulling up from the descent in a stately manner. She banked left, just in time to catch a view suitors swoop down from above, some more graceful than others.

Banneth's courage seemed to do him well this challenge, the seasoned time-dragon gaining more purchase against the winds than the enthused Hazmath at his tail. But Calanoth was not to be ignored, either, not with the passion to his roar. So many wonderful suitors! How was she going to choose among them?

Evmeth beamed to Malcarreth, crooning in particular at the little corkscrew turn of his. (+5 to your next roll!)

Pycath,> she responded, her voice the warmth of a long-awaited embrace.

<Sanuyeth, if I were to shun every dissentor to ever n** at another's heels, our combat wings would be threadbare.> Evmeth cast a wary eye on the young green, but her patience held strong.

Absoth was a beauty on the ground, but his antics in the air left something to be desired, despite the distant pangs from Shylla whenever she thought of the attached bronzerider.

Evmeth crooned to Morth, her tone subdued.

Kelilayth still seemed to be recovering from the little spat with the other gold, but Evmeth was nevertheless relieved to see him back in the race.

The pale gold's heart sank as the sprightly Hazmath she'd been so fond of tumbled into the lake, which was quickly receding into the background for her.

But there was no reason to stay down, not with her Flight going on! The gold chirped brightly at Kyoth's bold display, her heart swelling with pride.

Tiaeth,> sang the gold, beginning to climb for the clouds once more.

With her suitors reasonably out of their dives, Evmeth began to beat her wings sharply, taking to the skies once more. Her ascent was slow but nevertheless steady, as if with enough perseverance she might reach Rukbat itself.

((This challenge is a one of strength and stamina! The roll is a d10, with the usual bonuses, but there is a twist! On a successful roll of 6 or higher without modifiers, you may make an additional d10 roll to continue the climb! If the second roll is 7 or higher, you may make a third roll (and so on and so forth). Happy climbing!))
