Fadrin watched as a calm dragon burst forth first - a good start - only to be followed by three very angry dragons. It made him reel a little as his brows furrowed in disappointment. He'd heard Hatchinga could be vicious but this... Seemed unreasonable. He leaned a bit into Kylerr as the brown stalked towards them, watching the young male with a wary gaze. The dragon seemed more feral than anything else. It reminded him of a prickly wher. Unconsciously, he tensed his muscles, unsure of how to interpret that stalking... Better to be defensive, he decided, partially glad the brown was focusing on someone else.

VosinVos gave a half shrug to the older girl, then realized she might not see it if she was keeping her eyes on the quarreling dragonets. She whispered in the hopes of not attracting the brown's attention. "Not too often, but sometimes a pair will take offense to each other and this happens. I just hope the whole darn clutch isn't like this." Vee had it about right she pegged. That brown was out looking for blood. Theirs specifically. Vos hoped none of her siblings or friends got badly hurt. It looked as if the boys were in more immediate danger. She prayed Esre remembered his lessons.
Blue and greens were at a stalemate. Vos wondered if the greens would even Impress, or only after one defeated the other. She hoped they wouldn't loose the defeated dragonet, or maybe they'd finally tire out and go find their riders. She searched for her brother among the male candidates. Vos gave him a grin of encouragement. If she had to cross over to the boy's line she would; she was standing near the end of the girl's line and start of the boy's line for just that reason.
The teen was confident with her twin nearby that nothing too terrible could go wrong. Though it looked like Keep Out brown had chosen someone. Good or bad? She watched as the dragon went toward the boy.

EmmitodThe brown looked right at him and Emmitod could not look away. It's wings, huge and wet and already powerful looking, flared at him. Emmit was not afraid – Emmit was enthralled. He watched as it approached, though he was slowly beginning to realize that he was not an observer in this event... he was a character. VesreshVesresh could hear the dragon close at hand, but he was not in the front ranks and distinctly not looking, so he didn't know where it was. He couldn't see through the other male candidates to the female ones, and so he couldn't pick out the familiar red heads among them, not even for comfort. At least, though, he wasn't the only younger, frightened person amidst the boys: he could see, not too far away, a boy not much older than himself. He was, Vesresh realized, from the Benden Creche. Instinctively heading towards similarity and familiarity, he moved closer to Jaric... Mazaah (Concept Entry)All right, so it was quieter than a wher hatching, that she knew, but it didn't look that way for long if that brown had its way. She leaned towards Vosin “So, your saying its usually like this, huh.” Lessons had included what to do when a dragon hatchling decided to take a chunk out of you, but considering that, in her experience, they were pretty passive, she hadn't expected it to actually be a proper thing. “Think any will have a run at us?”

Kalendol's eyes widened as her focus remained solely on the Keep Out Dragonet. Her eyes watched as the brilliant brown suddenly must've picked out a candidate and was lurching towards that boy with fire in it's eyes. It's wings were flared, and part of her came to the small realization that perhaps this was not the little dragonet finding a bond-mate. She leaned forward once more to get a peek and found the dragonet was going towards Emmitod. 'Serves him right, pretentious dimglow.' She thought reasonably, and then the seventeen turn old leaned back, going back to staring at the unhatched eggs, if she heard screaming, then and only then would she look.

The pair of greens split apart panting and hissing at one another, the ichor that oozed from their wounds gleaming brighter than either of their hides in the shifting light of glows and torches. Posturing and showing their teeth they circled one another around the toppled Welcoming Egg, which was still wriggling and twitching but as yet showed no sign of breaking open. The Guiding blue had got back to his feet and was now watching the Keep Out brown with some caution, though his eyes remained blue as yet. As for Keep Out.... Keep Out was not happy. He was not happy at all. When Emmitod failed to give ground at his approach the brow let out a chilling how and sprung at the boy, jaws gaping and claws extended. It was quite clear that this was no feint, the dark-hided dragon was going for blood.

Lesex - Stands - contest concept
The eggs didn’t wake as much as the green’s scream. Lesex shifted, watching the scene with an attentive air. Well, what was going on here? He tipped his head, miss-tone eyes focused, half lidded in contemplation. He knew that dragons were different. They were cleaver creatures, could fly, use whatever the shards the between was and were sexual oriented by color. A lot of critters were.
Some of the hunt group had and kept whers, Lesex had never seen one of them hatch before and the greens, well they were going at it as if they knew each other. And really didn’t like each other, he had seen plenty of fights, but the people who were fighting had ages to not like someone. This was split second burning hate and he wonder what either of them had to prove.
He snorted, running a hand through his hair as another egg broke out, big and brown, and screaming. Angry baby… deadly baby maybe.

And the hatching had started off so well, Ceirrys thought to himself as he shifted nervously on the sands, none of the Hatchings he'd been to thus far had been quite like this. Maybe there was something in this haunting atmosphere that had influenced these eggs and now the dragonets bursting from their shells; a blue that did not seem to give one whit about Impression (but at least he was even-tempered), two greens out for one another's ichor, and a brown clearly out for blood -- was anyone going to impress tonight?
As the brown drew closer he mustered his will to not bolt like a terrified wherry; sure it was a fresh hatchling, but it was still a DRAGON, advancing on them, with glowing eyes matching the torchlight of the cavern and sharp teeth and sharp claws-- just look at the damage the two greens had done t one another in this short expanse of time. He felt an odd modicum of relief when the brown picked a target, it appeared to be going after one of the Malvern candidates, What was his name again? Emi? Emit? ... Eh, something like that. All he knew was he hadn't cared for the candidate's attitude, reminded him too much of the relatives he'd left at home, albeit he also wouldn't wish this dragonet on anyone. At least there are healers nearby, right?

Carwyn urged her parents to hurry, Capella chirping and whistling behind them. Alaiath let out an encouraging croon as they were strapped in and Cappy wrapped herself atop Carwyn's shoulders. Alaiath hunched down and with a mighty leap was airborne, blinking between as soon as could be considered safe. She emerged in the Benden weyrbowl and she wove between the other arriving dragons to find a spot for Carwyn and her parents to unload. Once they found their way safely to the stands she joined the other humming dragons on the edge of the bowl. Carwyn was dissapointed that they had missed the first few hatchlings' arrival, but was able to spot Ceirrys in the row of male candidates and eagerly pointed him out to her mother and father.

Vosin
Try as she might, she couldn't see her brother. Vos frowned and leaned over to her twin. "Can you see Esre? I think he got pushed into the back of the back." Which right now really wasn't a bad thing with a brown baring down on them. It seemed the angry brown had found a target and it wasn't Esre.
She glanced over at another girl with a grin. "Nah! Not all hatchings are so exciting. Normally its only a few dragons in the whole clutch. It must be tonight that has them all ornery. I'm afraid this clutch might all be like this. Might not, just be on your toes." She winked. It was good advice at any hatching really. Vos took a look over the dragons, then nodded slowly. "Maybe its the fog, but I'll bet there'll be more than just those we need to watch out for." Not a very appealing thought, but nothing she could do about it.
Time seemed to slow for the red-headed girl as she spotted the brown lunging with evil intent. She wanted to cry out and warn him, but knew there wasn't anything she could do in time.

Vesin gasped as the keep out egg sprung at the one boy. She gripped to Vosin's arm and tried to not watch what was going to happen. "I think I see him. Should we try to move closer to the guys to see if we can pull him out of the way if need be? I'm not liking how this clutch is looking...the only one to show any kind of decorum is that little blue..." her eyes flicked over the still wobbling eggs. Maybe Vos was right and it was the night and all its weirdness that was making them act like this. "Maybe it is the fog...tonight is really weird all around. I mean. Look at this weird lighting." She commented to all the girls around her.

So it would violence from the brown, then. Banshidheth and her rider both noted this, though it was only Anali who flinched. Violence and even death were a part of Hatchings, albeit one most preferred to gloss over. That it was inevitable, however, made it no less regrettable. The dragonets were vitally important, but so too were the candidates; they might outnumber the hatchlings, but all it took was the 'wrong' candidate getting mauled for a dragon to lose their partner before they found them for a hatchling to be forced to go between.
The gold looked down at the blue as he got to his feet, fascinated to see if he would intervene...was he a hero in the making, or would he only step in if his bonded-to-be was threatened?

The Keep Out brown hit Emmitod with a thump and his weight bore the candidate to the ground. Moments later the brown sprang forward again, abandoning his previous victim and moving on in search of the next. It was not immediately clear whether Emmitod was unhurt, wounded... or worse. Keep Out had no care at all for what he had left behind him and indeed seemed to be giving little thought in general; with guttural snarls he snapped and slashed at boys at random before his eyes locked on Kylerr. With a piercing scream he charged once more, seeming as intent on doing harm to the Harper as he had been on getting at Emmitod a few moments ago.

Lucayr was not close enough to do anything for Emmitod -- not that there was much anyone could have done to stop the brown dragonet, short of taking the attack themselves. He was, however, close enough to grab a smaller boy by the shirt and yank him out of harm's way. He received a swipe of the brown's talons across his upper left leg for his efforts. Shards, it hurt, but other than a bit of blood and a depressing row of slashes in his trousers, he was none the worse for wear.
"Give him space!" Lucayr snapped to all who he felt were not moving quickly enough. It was too dangerous yet to go check on Emmitod. The healers would do what they could for him, if anything could be done.

Fadrin winced as the other boy crumpled before the fury of the brown, sympathy curling through him. He'd been squared by runners before... Knocked you clean out of breath. He hoped that was all that had happened to his peer.
And then the brown was lashing out... And, it seemed to quickly, the male shifted his gaze to Kylerr. Eyes widened as the intent became clear and Fadrin gulped even as his body moved.
True to his word and his sense of duty, Fadrin stepped between the brown and the Harper, arms up and body hunched forward to catch the brown as he surged, his muscles bulging, straining as he pivoted, trying to use the Brown's momentum to throw the hatchling away. Fadrin was no small boy, and the way his feet dug into the sand and the aubidle 'hrruh!' as he met the Brown's charge contrasted greatly with his mild nature.
The brown would not have his friend!

Kalendol stared, slack jawed. 'He bumped him. He just bumped him.' She was kind of bummed by this lack of violence, but as she watched the brown turn towards Kylerr new intrigue filled her eyes. Then Fadrin shoved the dragonet away. She hadn't expected that.

Several things happened in rather quick succession. As Fadrin grabbed him the brown screeched his rage and lashed out at the boy's face with his front claws as he was hurled away. With agility that belied his size he twisted in the air and landed on his feet, skidding back a short distance through the sand before screeching again and making another charge. At the moment Fadrin grabbed the large brown something else happened; the Guarding Egg shattered into a thousand pieces and a jewel bright green staggered forth, trying to get her feet under herself. As the brown landed and screeched she let out a howl of her own and as he charged so did she, stumbling and tripping at first but soon gaining speed. The brown leapt at Fadrin. The green leapt at the brown. The pair of dragons met in mid air and hit the ground tumbling and snarling. The brown's teeth sank into the green's shoulder and she let out another howl of rage and pain, cuffing her sibling in the face and struggling to free herself. Her eyes however did not gleam orange with the light of battle, they were swirling with every colour of the rainbow and one brave but extremely unwise boy would know exactly why that was. <It might have gone badly for the Guarding Green had her howl not finally attracted the attention of the two other greens on the sand. With looks of mutual disgust the turned away from other another and charged at the brown. The small Shrieking green reached him first and sprang onto his back but Charging was not far behind and her greater bulk combined with the efforts of her sisters bowled the Keep Out brown off the Guarding green. Scrambling back upright the brown snarled and snapped his jaws, his gaze flickering between the three sisters.
