Henrik pinched the bridge of his nose between his forefinger and thumb. He was generally a very laid-back dude. But he was tired, and he was cranky, and he was feeling more than a little emotional still, and he was trying to remember that Axel was just trying to be a friend - but the flour pluming around all three men was kind of the last straw for him.
He shoved Alister off of him and rose to his feet. Flour dusted off of him in giant clouds, and Henrik let out a small sigh.
"I am sorry. I am going back to bed. I have classes tomorrow - today? - and I am tired and I am sure the cake will be very good, but I am just. Another time."
That being said, Henrik stalked out of the kitchen, still covered in flour.

Muchly annoyed, Axel turned to Alister.
"Okay, well, here's some beets."
He dumped them in a bowl without rinsing them. Not that it mattered.
"And milk and butter..."
A splash of milk and a stick of butter went in.
"And flour." Axel brushed some flour out of his hair and looked at Alister expectantly.

"I think he does not have nice manners." Alister frowned. He began to mix. It... well, it looked paste-like but lumpy. And smelled like vinegar. He mixed harder, smooshing everything appropriately. Alister's arms began to hurt.
"Is it.. good? Or what else should we put in?" Alister yawned.

"He's just grouchy," Axel said. It would be wrong to spill the details about Henrik's family, so he elaborated thusly: "He lost a pushup contest."
The frosting looked okay to him. He shrugged. "Let's put it on."

"Ah. I would be sad losing a test of strength." He hummed a Wallist hymn and plopped some 'frosting' on the cake. Crumbs stuck in the frosting. It was all vaguely pink...
"This would make a good Valentine's day gift. You should give it to your sweetheart! Or to the grumpy man~ Or, uh, both?" They could be the same person after all. He spread frosting down the side, frowning with it glooped at the base of the cake.

Axel wasn't really sure how Preacher would take to a pickled beet cake, but Henrik might cheer up if he got a delicious bite. It wasn't a bad idea. "Let's taste it first," Axel suggested, taking a fork and taking a bite.

They left it on the counter. A gift. For everyone.
