I came up with an idea that was essentially the inverse of this. The gang is stealing anything that could be used to bully the corporation into doing its bidding. Cooked books, ethics violations, etc.

It's too early to be calling tropes out for characters. There hasn't been a whole lot of development yet, and some characters may change dramatically.
