Oh, she hit a nerve! She was curious what it was, though she wasn't curious enough to ask. "If you're exploring the ocean, then eventually you'd have to go deeper, wouldn't you?" she asked. "I've heard that the ocean can be so deep that there's no hint of light at all..."

Of course, now the flirting was meant to repel, not attract. Now he wanted her gone before she could learn more, before she could try and kidnap his beloved.
He swam closer, somewhat aggressively.
