Her smile didn't fade, all of the confusion and angst melted away by now. Filix relaxed visibly, and tried to not laugh at herself. He might think she was laughing at him, and the last thing Filix wanted was for Aesculus to get that idea.
"Perhaps it is..." Filix trailed off, setting aside the book she'd started to read. She stood up, not liking the idea of calling across the library, and wandered over to sit in a chair near Aesculus. "If I hadn't started a new book, I probably wouldn't have noticed you either... we would have been in the library at the same time and neither of us noticing. Are you here for any particular tomes or topics?"

"Oh... I was just returning some tomes... they were filled with fables, short stories with a moral theme or undertone. I find them absolutely fascinating, really. If you study them alongside modern psychology, you can get amazing insight into the psyche. May I ask what brings you here, Countess Filix? Perhaps something even more ambitious, I hope." He smiles as he waits for her to take a seat, trying to retain all his gentlemanly mannerisms. After she is seated, he sits slowly, his back straight and his hands in his lap pleasantly.

Filix leaned over to give him her usual friendly hug, she hadn't lost that trait. And with friends, she didn't plan to. "No, they're wonderful to read! I just have had other studies or duties... I really should return to them, I read a lot of them when I was a teenager, and people didn't expect so much of me."
She paused. Filix thought for a moment, and answered with, "I was interested in the history of the castle... past problems with the moon court, and so on." Filix was careful not to spill too much of what she was doing, but did add, "Some of the battle strategies fascinate me, the minds these men must have had... it just makes me wonder, did they have it as an instinct, or was it something they had to spend years studying over first?"
After an afterthought, Filix continued with, "But then, there was other things in the tomes about the history that were fascinating as well... old traditions and laws before our parent's time that today seem horrifying to us, you know? It makes me curious about the changes the castle change in it's laws and traditions in 100 years time."
And then she stopped, and looked at her hands. Filix was a bit ashamed of herself... she'd never lost herself like that... she was usually so careful to only say so much. "Sorry, I'm speaking my thoughts and rambling. I'm still a little lost in the thinking I had when I was reading..."

"Oh please, do not stop your thoughts on my account. My duty as a court advisor is to counsel the king, and the best way to practice is to listen to others and advise them, do you not think so? I think any interest in knowledge is to be admired, Countess Filix. It is in our knowledge and wisdom we find our personal truths."
His fingers interlace themselves on his lap as he looks at her intently, as if in deep thought. Indeed his mind is elsewhere, thinking about whether or not it would be in his best interest to study some of the tomes she herself has been reading.

((And if anyone's going >:0, she doesn't know about the moon court. XD She's just craving something a little more exciting than the repetitive duties of a Countess, and lady of the court. That and reading glorified stories doesn't help... -sweat-
Sorry Sy, she won't shut up. -giggle- ))
Filix glanced up from her hands and back at Aesculus. "I'm not used to speaking out loud like that, to tell the truth. I can't remember... did I used to act like that when we were children, or was I too busy trying to catch up with you both?"
Filix felt a lingering twitch of leftover pain from her childhood, as long ago as it was. She'd never liked being left behind because she was a girl... the Prince and Aesculus had done if often. But it was silly to dwell on those times... then, she'd never assumed anything bad would happen in the future. Her only worry was the silly boy's games.
Deciding to not go any further, Filix glanced back up at him from her hands. There was another thing on her mind, and she knew that Aesculus was probably the best to confide her thoughts in. "Do you think that we might need to return to the days of war against the Mooncourt, like we did so long ago? I know it didn't happen often, but it did happen... and there were always rumors, always problems. After reading those books, it just makes me feel like... like... they're evil, we're good. Good cannot exist without evil, right?' 'I look around, and the main concern is the evil in the forest... not exactly a threat now that Pappila is a teenager and growing stronger. It's almost like it gives me a 'calm before the storm' feeling... had the King said anything about Moon court activity?"
She paused, and flushed slightly. Filix did slightly long for something to happen, something that she could take part in. A fight, an assassin, even something terrible coming out of the forest? Anything to give her the excuse to disguise herself as a man so that she could follow the men of the court. Peace was wonderful, but Filix wanted to feel the glory of the wars she'd read about, and protect her court as a knight would. But in case Aesculus thought Filix was a bit too interested in the war side, she added quickly, "I don't really expect a 'yes', by the way. Like I said, books make my mind work faster than ever, and it goes to all kinds of possibilities."
Filix shifted, a little annoyed at herself for thinking out loud. Again. Even if he had said it was fine, she was used to being around people with minds that didn't like to think so much. And Filix was slightly afraid that he'd be like how most men would be, remind her that it wasn't up to a female to be concerned with those issues in the first place.
Her eyes didn't leave Aesculus's eyes though, Filix's own gaze intense. She was half-curious to see how he'd react to her thoughts.

"Perhaps," he mused, his eyes darkening to a deep gold as he seemed lost in thought a moment. "I have heard of troubles with the forest, and the Moon Court was caught in the same curse we were, so it is fathomable they could be released... but alas, all we can do is prepare, dear Countess Filix. It is always good to be prepared and aware of what may come to our humble kingdom."
After a moment his eyes lightened and he motioned around to all the books. "These are here to aid us, to quench our thirst of knowledge, and make sure we do not make mistakes of the past. You are surely of the right mind to come here and read if you are worried about being braced for such events.... however, I believe it is not wise to dwell on what may come, and embrace each day and appretiate its worth. If you simply worry about that the Moon Court may be awakened, and that evil may come from the forest, days will fly by and you will miss the subtle beauty of each peaceful hour."

"I hope not, really, I just... there are so few of us, not much does happen around here. Perhaps all I crave is a celebration of sorts." Filix sighed, and fiddled with one of the bracelets. Her eyes lit up, slightly when she thought of another thing...
Staring sideways again at Aesculus, Filix relaxed a tiny bit more. He hadn't seemed at all surprised that she was thinking like this... maybe the court wasn't as bad as she had assumed in it's way of thinking?
"It's peaceful here, and unlike the gardens, there's always somewhere new to go that I haven't been before." Filix answered, peering up at the books. "I love the gardens too, but it is nice to be lost in another time or land once in a while, or to try and understand the thoughts of intelligent men or women who've passed by since. I trust Pappila though with the forest, and the Moon Court couldn't do much to harm us... we could always send Rosa in with a comb and ribbons to subdue them."
Filix grinned slightly. "I know you're right, I should be happy with peace. But I want to do more than the endless duties, and sitting in my chamber waiting for something, you know? Life wasn't meant to be a routine every day for the rest of my life. Of course! Our king's wedding approaches, does it not? Maybe that will add the thing I've needed, a change in the days?"

He nods slowly, thinking to himself that perhaps patience comes with age as his Kithain had once suggested. Aesculus was a patient man... he could wait eons with blissfully peaceful days and swaying trees of golden leaves before he would even feel slightly bored. Truly he found it hard to be ill at ease with enjoying sitting around.
"Perhaps. The King and Queen ought to be wed relatively soon... I do now know when they will hold the ceremonies. It seems to be a good marriage... with it I am sure we will find a strong ruling family that will lead us to centuries of harmony."

"They make an wonderful match, and centuries of harmony does sound nice. With you as the advisor, I'm sure that our court has even more of a secure and safe future. But... I... I just want to count, you know? I want to be known as someone who would protect the court no matter what... nevermind. Forget it. There are so few of us right now, I hope other kithain come, having more to talk to would be nice." Filix added the last sentance quickly and added, "Although, I've found some wonderful fey to talk to."
She went quiet, content to sit there next to him in the peace of the library to think for a few moments. After a while, Filix asked, "Speaking of which... Aes, are you sure you're not an adult? You were always a step ahead of others your age."
Filix moved her head towards him, grinning slightly as she poked at him playfully, as she used to when she was a child. "Have you been riding since, Aesculus? Or has it been all study? I should take you riding sometime."

"An adult?" He smiles a little, and supresses a chuckle, not wanting to laugh outright at the suggestion- doing such could be considered rather rude of him, and he must always be polite. Except perhaps with Rosa, who he wasn't sure was worthy of such civility. "No no, I am but a teenager. I am sure the day will come when I become an adult... perhaps, Filix, it is because you, Cervus, and I grew up together you find it odd I'm not an adult. You two are adults now, and I still a teenager... I think it is this oddity that makes you think I'm older."
"No, I have not been riding... and my dear Countess, it is not wrong to want to count. Everyone needs to recognized and cherished as an individual, and many have want to be so acknowledged to be in the history books. I am sure you will be recorded as a brave countess, defiant and dauntless facing the Moon Court."

"You're right, of course." Filix grinned. "As you usually are. Only, when you and the king go on hunting trips, or rides to collect more horses, I won't have the excuse of being young to follow behind and join in."
She sighed... it was good to hear someone say that. Filix felt less childish for her desires to have some sort of honor, and to have Aesculus say that made her feel better about it. She leaned over to give Aesculus a quick hug, telling him, "Thankyou, that means a lot to me."
"You..." Filix paused, trying to think of a way to say it without being too insulting to Equus. "You and Equus are close to the same age, yet he is still simple minded, as he always was. It just amazes me, how different we all are as we go through these short growth spurts."

"Everyone takes their own time to mature... and some may seem much the same and retain childlike qualities even when they are adults. I like to think that everyone in the court is mature in their own sense, and while Equus may be simple, it is in his simplicity that he flourishes. Everyone is beautiful, Filix, it just takes a trained eye to see everyone's beauty." He stands, and takes her hand, kissing it like the young gentleman he is.
"I fear I must be going, Countess. Please feel free to drop by my chambers if anything bothers you and you need counseling and advice... or perchance just to parley. Fair thee well."
He turns and walks back to his room, quiet footsteps diminishing down the hall as his nimble pace carries him.

"I knew I should have marked the shelf I got this book from." The man muttered to himself as he moved onto the next shelf in the general area he had gotten the book from in the first place. He knew it had to be one of four bookshelves he was standing in front of. He was now on the third shelf and was scanning the different shelves to see if it looked like a book was missing from the row. As he did so he tapped his fingers impatiently on the book's cover and let out a sigh. When at last he noticed the empty spot he smiled to himself and went to set the book where it belonged. After doing so, he picked up another book, and went over to one of the many chairs in the library.

Humming lightly to herself, Muris made her slow, sleepy way towards the library. She had decided against taking a nap despite being still very exhausted from her transformation, simply because she might sleep too long and the horses would get restless, which would be bad. What with her recent promotion in rank, she certainly wanted to prove that she was worthy of it.
The door creaked open, and she took in a startled breath when she spotted Alces sitting at the table. She hadn't seen him yet...what would he think?
"...Alcie?" her voice was as soft and gentle as always, but no longer had the lazy, baby-ish accent it used to.

He had finally gotten himself settled into the chair when he heard a familiar voice, but at the same time, realized it sounded different. He stood up again, since a lady was approaching, to be polite and turned around to smile, "Hello Mu--" He cut himself off abruptly the moment he realized that he was no longer looking at his 'little muri' "Ri..." He finished, before quickly adding, "Um...Groom Muris, or.." for a moment he frowned, thinking of what her rank would be now. After clearing his throat he finally finished with, "Wrangler Muris." He set his book down on the chair he had been sitting on and his smile had gone away but returned, just not looking as sincere as it had been before due to the 'shock' of this all.
