Seeing the dark brown form before her making his way to his feet, Ryala mentally sighed in relief. He was okay! Although... was it just her, or did he not seem so sure about her coming to his rescue? Sadly, she stopped her forward progress, and looked down at him. Well, he had wings... surely, when they dried, he would fly back up to where he belonged. And surely no one would fail to notice him, and step on him!

With another sigh, she turned her gaze once more on the eggs that were continuing to spill their contents. It was then that she noticed that the egg that she'd found in the Infirmary was rocking back and forth, a large crack widening along it's side. As she watched, the egg finally broke, and a dark blue hatchling emerged. He certainly seemed to be a friendly character, looking around himself and chirping, as if in greeting. She couldn't help but smile at him.

Curiosity made her look over toward the gold again, though, and once more she took a bite of meat in her hand, thinking of offering it to the new queen. Before she could, though, her eyes flitted back to the blue that had hatched from "her" egg, and back again, torn between the two.

Wen
Flying, well Jemi wasn't really off that bronze did get quite a bit of air and didn't seem any worse for his sudden flight. Eager perhaps? He finished feeding the twins, and he really did need to figure out something to call them other then twins, their belly rounded with meat and made a move to clean his hands off.

He paused and looked up, smiling at the women. "Thank you, and congrats on your own impression," Wen replied to Lathis for her green and the brown.

A rather simply painted egg was lying on its side near the center of the clutch, giving a leisurely twitch and rock every now and again. It didn't seem in too much of a hurry to join the hustle and bustle going on outside its shell, more content to nap for a while. However its relaxation was shattered however as its blue brother tried to climb over it on his way to say hello and put a foot right through the egg. Drawing his foot back the blue chirruped and then continued on his way. A pair of forefeet appeared out of the hole and slowly began to haul out yet another blue hatchling. The blue looked around, but looked down as he heard a cracking sound. What was that? He sniffed at the cracks forming around his feet. That was stra-oh! The shell cracked and gave way, dropping the hatchling back inside his egg.

The young blue paced forward and chirruped again. He noticed someone looking and smiling at him and gave a happy wiggle. He liked her. Hey, wait! What was she doing? The blue let loose a confused whine. Meanwhile the gold hatchling, who had yet to get up, noticed the girl and looked up at her. Rolling over she stood up, stepped forward and stretched out her neck toward the piece of meat, sniffing at the morsel. No! The dark blue darted forward and hissed, chattering angrily at his larger clutchmate. No, no, no, no. No! He forced the gold to back up and away from the girl until the hatchling turned her back on him and walked away. It was then when he turned angry little eyes onto Ryala. Why did you do that!? She looked at him first! Did she think that gold was better? Plonking himself down the blue sat down and huffed. Sticking his head up and to the side he pretended to ignore the girl. After all she had been very insensitive.

It seemed that the bronze wasn't really the kind to stick around and pose. When he walked however there was a definitive strut to it. Head up, wings mantled, it was hard to believe the firelizard was only a few minutes old. He was clearly already very confident in himself as he lithely jumped down from the trough. He glanced to the side and noticed a girl with a green firelizard. Well, the green was hardly a concern of his. She wasn't exactly a threat now was she. Turning himself in a graceful arch he came to stop in front of the girl. Well? What was she waiting for, an invitation?

The word that the 'wayward' clutch of that worried Gold flit was hatching was exciting news for the twelve year old candidate. Hineni had made her way there as soon as she had heard. She had never actually seen one up close, never back at home. Many folks had gathered around and it seemed as though there were a good few young flits who had already bonded with people. How exciting! The girl sidled her way in amidst those gathered and watched curiously, tittering at some of the antics she was seeing. The babies were so cute! Some were so pretty, so handsome! Just precious!

When the friendly dark blue hatchling started climbing over some of the other eggs in his eagerness to make himself known, Ryala chuckled... then gasped when she saw him put his foot through a shell. When he pulled it free, it didn't seem that any harm had been done, though, except to the shell. In fact, now that the blue had helped it along a bit, that egg didn't seem to take too long in hatching. The sight made her smile, along with the knowledge that his little misstep had been beneficial.

The motion of the new gold flit moving to get her feet under her attracted the girl's attention, and with eyes that widened to about the size of dinner platters, she watched as the little queen reached out towards the food in her half-outstretched hand... And suddenly the dark blue was there, not looking nearly so nice anymore.

Surprised, Ryala watched as the blue furiously scolded his golden sister, until she turned away. She couldn't help but be disappointed as she watched the gold leave the angry blue -- and a certain redheaded girl -- behind. Shards, to Impress the gold would have been so awesome! But still, there were more flits than just the gold, she sternly reminded herself. So she'd failed to land the gold this time... that didn't mean that she couldn't still Impress a flit.

The dark blue apparently had the same thought in mind, as he turned away from his sibling to scold her next. And then, when he firmly parked his tail in the sand and turned his little head away, as if trying to snub her, she found herself once more torn, this time between laughter and uncertainty. There was every chance that he would decide to take his attentions elsewhere, and find someone who he felt was more accommodating, leaving her with no flit (unless one of the others took a liking to her)... but she rather doubted that he would have assumed that offended pose for anyone else. In fact, it seemed to her that, although some of the others gathered here saw him, quite a few others were focused on other flits, or the unhatched eggs, and he hadn't made this display for any of them. Just her...

Deciding, Ryala reached out a little more, and dangled the strip of meat in her hand right in front of the blue's slightly lighter snout. She saw him try to resist, to deny her... but his nostrils visibly twitched, and when his stomach rumbled he finally gave in. And when he did... the meat seemed to vanish as if by magic. Blinking, she barely had a chance to realize that he'd taken the offering before he'd turned glowing eyes on her, making it clear that he'd also taken that as apology.

And now he wanted more.

Jemi watched the bronze, captivated at the confident strut and grinned looking at Irith. <And, what do you think of him?> She asked, carefully maneuvering Lace to her shoulders as she reached to get some meat to feed the bronze.

<He is worthy of you.> Irith replied and gave a pleased chirr at the thought of the bronze. Certainly the bronze was the very best of the clutch, and graceful and her Jemi would go places.

<Is that so?> Jemi held some meat up to the bronze, watching him take them carefully.

Cai

Cai shook his head. "No I don't think the records would have information on flits... though it might be a good idea to keep track of..." Cai had felt something strike his boot, but had assumed it was Genith's tail. The second time, he had also passed it off, but the third with the odd crunching, Wen's comment, and the cheerful peeping finally got Cai's attention.

The young man had only been out to potentially Impress one firelizard, not two. Cai's mouth twitched as he tried to restrain a grin. That was really cute though. He reached down, careful not to dislodge the blue firelizard, and dropped a piece of meat into the little green's open mouth. She chewed, swallowed, and gave a delighted creel, bolting up Cai's pant leg at an incredible speed to get to his lap and beg for more meat.

The blue cradled in his other arm cracked one eyelid open and gave a little hiss at being disturbed nothing more though. He just curled tighter into Cai's chest, tucking his head under and ignoring the other hatchling.

"Potentially. We'd have to rule out the fact that she only chose me because I was the first one she saw out of the egg. To get a proper count, we'd have to know the exact circumstances of each Impression and only count those that were like dragons, multiple people involved and the firelizards given choice rather than being claimed in some way or another." He fed the little green as he talked. Well, two he could probably handle... and it wasn't like a green and a blue couldn't live together with training. It's not like he'd found himself with two bronzes. That would have been a nightmare.

Jemi's pair seemed well matched at least. Cai watched as Jemi impressed the bronze. "There's another that goes against the theory. Unless bronze dragons can potentially Impress to women and it's just never happened before." Of course that was ridiculous, but that was one of the advantages of firelizards. In the end, they seemed not to care about your gender at all. If Cai wanted, he could have a bronze, or a gold. It wouldn't matter in the end.

Paige

There were firelizards everywhere now! It was hard to know where to look! Greens as far as the eye could see, and almost enough blues to match. That was to be expected though. The number of browns, bronze and of course that little gold combined couldn't begin to compare with the blues and greens. Paige tried with them all, watching and being delighted with their antics. It was much friendlier with less tension than a dragon hatching that was for sure!

The little green looked anxious as she stood on the edge of the trough and Paige's heart went out to her. Poor darling! It was ok, she'd make it! Paige had to hold back from clapping as the little girl went for it and landed just fine on the stone floor beneath. She was surprised to see the little spots of bright green on the otherwise muted hide. They were only really noticable when the little girl spread her wings wide.

Watching her as she was, Paige couldn't help but notice the firelizard was drawing close and holding her breath with excitement Paige extended her offering. She squeaked as the little green crooned and took it from her hand. "Ohhh! Don't startle!" She quickly sent warm happy comforting thoughts as the firelizard had shied from her sudden noise. She hadn't lost it's attention thankfully as more meat was produced and fed.

She'd got herself a firelizard!

It seemed that the time the sands would go without a green was going to be an exceptionally short one as a small egg burst open and revealed an eye catching green. The newborn looked around with interest. The green was startlingly dark, with patches lining her legs, body, wings and face. She chirruped at the sight. Seemed she wasn't the first one here. There were lots and lots of firelizards already around, some in the trough, some not. The ones further from the trough seemed to be getting fed and were happy about it. She was hungry too! Clambering out of her shell remains the green eagerly approached the humans stood around the clutch. There was enough for her? Yes? She was so terribly hungry after working to get out of that shell. Somebody must be willing to feed her.

A dark egg with awkwardly painted stripes and wiggly lines gave a sudden jump. The eggs in this clutch seemed intent on waiting quietly before suddenly jumping into action. The egg rolled and jumped, cracks forming here and there across its surface. The firelizard inside didn't seem able to understand they would have an easier time of getting out if they focused on one area. Instead they rolled and bounced haphazardly until, by chance, they hit the same area and a brown hatchling went tumbling out of the side of the egg. The brown was a simple looking fellow, simply two clear cut shades, a paler band wrapping around his front. A darker patch remained on his head, which he shook slightly as he climbed to his feet. That had been a bit rougher than he had expected.

The newest blue of the clutch seemed to be having some trouble getting out of his shell. Each time he worked to get up more of the thin shell collapsed under him. His floundering lasted several minutes before finally he actually ran out of shell to have collapse on him and was left in a pile of shards and egg fragments. With the obstacle gone he could finally step out of it, however he was feeling a little embarrassed after the spectacle. Lots of people were looking at him and he didn't really like it all that much. He'd been trying to stay out of the way and then this happened. Hunkering down the blue scuttled to the side, jumped from the trough and scampered off into the crowd. He didn't really want to be in the thick of it and right at the front. A little way back he stumbled across someone holding some food. There weren't already feeding a lizard and seemed less intent about the whole thing. Walking up to the human the blue chirruped a cautious greeting. They could be friends, right?
User Image

The brown on the ground carefully picked himself up out of his shell pieces, glancing down at the mess he had made. Oh dear, he hadn't meant to do that. It was an accident. What did he do now? Should he just leave it there? Was there any way for him to fix it? The dark topped brown did his best to slink off while the people were all looking at the firelizards still on the sand. The firelizard was large for a brown, but being young and with a bronze and gold still wandering around he found it easier to escape the gaze of those usually looking for a bigger firelizard. Once he had journeyed a bit away from the trough and gotten among the legs of the crowd the male was bolstered, nobody was staring at him down here. He sped up and began to twist between and around feet, glancing up at the people he passed. Spotting a rider the brown tilted his head to the side and paced closer. He seemed familiar somehow. He continued to peer up at the rider curiously.

Lorend sat quietly with the new green drowsing in her lap. Ah she was precious. Now that the green was asleep she could watch the others. There seemed to be a gold and bronze wandering around. She hoped someone good impressed them. Nearby a blue was giving a girl the cold shoulder. It was quite funny, particularly when the blue gave in to get food. He would be a handful.

"Oooooo congrats Paige!" The teen whispered to the other girl.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lathis gave a soft giggle and proffered the brown another piece to clean and eat. "Very tidy man you are." With praise and meat she drew the elegant brown to her. She scratched under his chin which prompted a happy hum from the flit. He liked that very much!
"Thanks!" She smiled at Wen.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bacha did her best to keep her attention on all the unattached flits. There was one, and there was one. It was when a green started coming closer and closer that she held her breath. Was she?! The green gave a happy squeal that was echoed by the girl. A beautiful green like her brother! Well not exactly like her brother's. Bacha quickly offered the boldly marked, wiggling green some food.

The donation was quickly accepted and eaten. Wiggling back she drew the green away from the crowd, which was pretty easy since the flit was willing to follow. Bacha fed her more then gently picked her up to set her on the table so she wouldn't have to continue kneeling on the floor. "There we are my beauty."

After the first three tidbits, the dark blue had allowed Ryala to pick him up. Gently, the girl shifted him from the sand to her left arm, and edged quietly to the back of the crowd, all the while supplying him with much needed sustenance. It didn't take long for the handful of meat she had to run out, so as she fed him the last of it, she also went over to the large bowl and snagged more... hopefully enough to sate his voracious appetite.

The dark blue one had now wrapped his tail firmly around her wrist, and seemed to have absolutely no intention of going anywhere. And Ryala was happy to have things so. Her very own firelizard! She'd wanted one for Turns now... and now, at long last, she'd managed to Impress one. She couldn't be happier.

Wen
Wen glanced back and smiled watching Jemi impress a rather hefty looking bronze. Well, that was surprising. He was a handsome boy. He settled back and slowly stroked the twins, letting the blues snuggle into his chest and lap. "Flits also share a person, when dragons do not."

Cai

"Very true." Cai sighed and shook his head with a wry grin. There was no way he'd be able to find out for sure to his satisfaction. At least, not without more effort than he intended to put into it. As it was, he now had two small firelizards to feed and watch over as well as Genith. They would be worth it though. Not only to train as extra hands and useful tools for his craft, but to keep Genith company when he was busy. Genith didn't seem to really enjoy the company of other dragons as much as some of the others, but maybe a couple firelizards would keep him occupied and not so alone when Cai had to focus on his job.

Paige

"Thanks Lorend!" Paige whispered back, still feeding the little green and just beginning to touch the little creature as she did so. She didn't want to spook it again before she could be sure of the Impression. "She's my first!" Paige had noticed Lorend's blue flit before, and the little green she just impressed. They'd make an adorable pair. "Where did you get him?" She asked curiously, gesturing to Foen on the girl's shoulder.

An egg began to twitch near the edge of the clutch. This egg seemed of particular interest to the firelizards watching from above. Anyone who had been in the Dining Hall the day the fair had come swooping in to find their eggs may remember why. The egg was in fact the first one found by the gold after her clutch had been stolen. Several pairs of whirling eyes peered down at the medium sized egg as it rocked and wiggled around. The pressure didn't seem to get to the egg as cracks appeared and a cheerful chirruping could be heard. Foreclaws tore at the shell as a nose tried to force its way up and out of the hole. A dark face forced its way out of the shell and a similar coloured body slid out after it. The blue firelizard pulled himself to his feet and whistled a greeting. The blue flit was dark for nose to tail, but as he moved areas seemed to catch the light and show different shades, that however was not what seemed to catch attention. Instead it was the scores of tiny pale specks the covered his torso in an organised wash.

If one cared to notice, they may have heard a quiet, yet repetitive tapping sound. It was coming from an egg; painted blue with bands and marks in yellow, but the egg didn't move. The tapping continued despite the shells breaking and firelizards going past it. Nobody would perhaps even pay it any mind until the egg tipped slowly onto its side. The egg fell silent for a short while before the tapping resumed again, just as insistent as before. Gradually a small chip appeared on what had been the top of the egg before it fell. The chip grew larger as the tapping continued until finally the tips of claws could be seen occasionally poking out of the side. The tapping continued, the opening getting bigger, the claws showing more and more. The hole finally grew big enough that the hatchling could shove its dark brown nose partly out of the gap. His feet however were trapped along with his nose and waved ineffectually as the brown tried to force his way out of a space far too small. The egg, however, what not hold fast forever and there was only a moment to see the crack form above where the hatchling's eyes would be before the egg broke and the brown flew forward. Thankfully with only enough to get his head and neck out before he stopped. Stopping the brown looked around a moment before hauling himself out. He was surprisingly small for a brown, but that didn't seem to matter to him as he looked around at the many people, firelizards and dragons that had gathered in the Dining Hall.

Tottling forward the dark green hatchling looked around for something to eat. She was so very, very, very hungry. Didn't any of them notice? They were offering food to those other firelizards. Why not to her too? She was nice. She was pretty. The young green hurried forward in her quest for food. She wanted to eat now and nobody was coming to her so she would have to go to them. She was very confident in this fact. Of course, then there was the question of who to get food from? Who should she go to? This green however was not one for overly complex thinking and decided that she would go to the first one that she happened to see with food. True, this one was already feeding her brown brother, but she was sure that he wouldn't mind. She looked up at Lathis and did her best charming face. She was sooooo hungry.

The bronze and blue had sat together a long while trying to get all of the sand off of the blue hatchling. Sadly their efforts were not too successful. The young bronze kept trying to lick the sand off, only to then become upside by the amount of sand in his mouth, and the blue kept trying to rub it off with his feet or the ground, which did not help. So very minutes after their adventure began to two were no more better off than they had been at the start. Clearly for the blue this was too much and picking his sandy self up he stomped off and out of the trough, leaving the confused bronze behind. The blue began to rub himself on the stone floor once out of the trough and found that this was far more useful. Shuffling forward he rubbed all of himself against the ground whilst pushing himself forward with his hind legs. It'd do no good to rub against just one spot, the sand that came off would just stick back on. He moved on and on, past people and away from the clutch, leaving a sandy trail running along behind him. Once he felt that all the sand was off his hide the blue came to a halt. Picking himself up he gave a final shake a looked around. Oh, he was quite far away from the rest of them now wasn't he? He spied a young boy not too far away with an older firelizard. Older firelizards knew where to get food, even if the boy wouldn't feed him, the older firelizard might help him get food. Scurrying over the blue called out to the pair.
User Image

Well, that had been most unpleasant. First her egg had tipped over and she'd had to work her way out of that predicament. Then, when that human had offered her food her blue clutchmate had gotten all defensive and snapped at her. It was just not her day today. Still, there were plenty more humans out there to get food from and as she looked up she spied firelizards poised with morsels in hand so they were always an option too if she chose. Still the humans had more and they seemed to be treating the ones already with them very nicely. It would be nice to be treated that nicely. The large firelizard jumped down from the trough and looked around. Many of her clutchmates had already laid claim to several humans. Some she could feel did not want to share and other humans seemed to have so many with them that she wasn't sure they would be able to give her anything if she did go to them. She noticed a girl just ahead feeding one of her smaller clutchmates and being very gentle with the young green. Yes, she seemed kind. Surely she would be happy to have her tag along with them. The gold firelizard paced quietly forward, noticing the girl talking to someone. Giving a gentle chatter she hoped to catch her attention. She didn't want to be rude, but she was awfully hungry still.

Paige

Venaith crooned, her eyes a slow whirl of calm and happy blues. Paigemine... look. She gently drew Paige's attention from the little green she'd only just coaxed onto her lap.

Paige glanced away from Lorend and her eyes went round. "no way..." Her luck wasn't that great was it? The little green in her lap looked around when the next piece of meat was slow in coming and trilled when she saw her golden sister peering up at her and her chosen human. She chirped again, then grabbed at Paige's hand, nabbing the next piece of meat that dangled there.

Paige blinked in surprise and quickly with her free hand grabbed another, holding it out to the little gold. She was rewarded with a pleased chatter and the hatchling took the morsel quickly. This one didn't need to be coaxed. With the invitation given, she crawled up immediately to her sisters side and looked up expectantly, waiting to be fed just as the green was.

Wen
"And our golden weryling just impressed a gold flit." Wen remarked looking over at Paige and gave a slow wave. "It is an interesting concept though. You could use your observation of this clutch and compare it to the next, a hmm, it could be the circumstances of this clutch that have lead to these results. The thief of the eggs."
