A new week is starting! Here's our forecast.

Season: Summer
Temperature: High of 82°F, low of 57°F
Weather: Partially cloudy, scattered thunderstorms
Hunting Level: 1

Weekly news

Let's welcome Ginger into the Yama Pack! With her we now have five members and can qualify as an official pack!

As ya'll may have noticed, we don't have a Beta as of yet. I've been trying to think of ways to appoint one, but perhaps the more pressing question is is anyone interested? We're going to try to pick a Beta and apply for official status before the month is out!

I'm going to mess with the hunting rolls this month and see if I can expand the idea like I planned to in the beginning. We'll use this month as a trial of sorts and decide whether or not to make the changes permanent at the end. Stand by for upcoming post!

1
0% to 20% chance of success on a hunt.

2
21% to 40% chance of success on a hunt.

3
41% to 60% chance of success on a hunt.

4
61% to 80% chance of success on a hunt.

5
81% to 100% chance of success on a hunt.

Okay, here's the start of how this will work. To add interest and variety to the pack I introduced the concept of hunting success rate, but it can be hard to roleplay a percentage, especially when you have several bad weeks in a row. Also, not all Fumes are built the same, nor do they all act the same. Some are stronger, faster, more agile, more cunning, or just plain stubborn. How much of each trait a Fume has can affect how a hunt will go, but in roleplay there's no effective standard of measurement you can use. Therefore, I think it would be interesting to introduce a stats system.

The stats are as follows:

Strength - This determines how strong your Fume is.
Speed - This determines how fast your Fume is.
Agility - This determines graceful and balanced your Fume is.
Stamina - This determines how much energy your Fume has.
Intelligence - This determines how clever your Fume is.
Patience - Action has its rewards, but sometimes you need patience to achieve your goals.
Instinct - A wild card. Can either greatly improve your circumstances or do absolutely nothing.

How do I get my stats?
When you join the pack at some point you will roll seven (7) 10-sided dice. You will then assign the numbers as your stats.

Do I have to assign the numbers in order?
You can, but you do not have to assign them in order. Say I roll 3, 9, 2, 8, 6, 3, 7. I could assign the numbers like in the example below. It's up to you which stat you want to assign which number to.
Example:
Strength: 8
Speed: 6
Agility: 2
Stamina: 7
Intelligence: 3
Patience: 3
Instinct: 9

Do stats affect my Fume outside hunting games?
If you want, but the effect will be minimal. For example if one Fume has a speed of 3 and another Fume has a speed of 10 you can assume the second Fume will be faster than the first Fume. However, this does not mean the second Fume will be running laps around the first Fume, nor does it mean having a speed of 3 (or even 1) makes you slow. The main effect of the stat numbers is to determine how well you might succeed in hunting games. Roleplay is for fun and bonding, so if and how much you want to utilize your stats is up to you.

Can I raise my stats?
Yes! You'll learn more about that in the game instructions later on.

Do I have to roll for stats/participate in hunting games?
No. If you prefer not to join in, that's perfectly fine.

Hunting Games

I'm working on the rules and instructions right now, but chances are it won't be ready for a couple more days. There's a lot to type and I have to work out the kinks. I'll have it up before the end of the week though, but for now I wanted to put out the idea of a stats out there. I'm still working out various ideas of how they can be applied, but we're gonna try to start off slow for now.

Let the game begin!

Okay, I'm going to try to explain this properly and not get all confusing with my numbers, but that doesn't always work out so if you have any questions feel free to shoot me a PM!

How the game works
The game starts with a series of scenarios, one for single hunting, one for pair hunting, and one for group hunting. Each scenario will have a series of outcomes. Which outcome you achieve depends on your stats, the weekly hunting success percentage, and a roll of the dice.

- Single -

How to play!
Number of Fumes required: 1
Instructions: The Single game is less about stats and more about the hunting success rate percentage. You can pick any stat and your chances of winning will be the same no matter what! This is great when you have low stats you're trying to boost, but the lower the hunting success rate the lower your chances of winning.

When HSR is 1
Pick your stat. Multiply number by ten. RNG between 1 and that number. EX, stat is 7, so RNG between 1 and 70. Number must be anywhere between 1 thru 7 to win.
When HSR is 2
Pick your stat. Multiply number by ten. RNG between 1 and that number. Multiply stat by 3. EX, stat is 7, so RNG between 1 and 70. Number must be anywhere between 1 thru 21 to win.
When HSR is 3
Pick your stat. Multiply number by two. RNG between 1 and that number. EX, stat is 7, so RNG between 1 and 14. Number must be anywhere between 1 thru 7 to win.
When HSR is 4
Pick your stat. Multiply number by ten. RNG between 1 and that number. Multiply stat by 7. EX, stat is 7, so RNG between 1 and 70. Number must be anywhere between 1 thru 49 to win.
When HSR is 5
Pick your stat. Multiply number by ten. RNG between 1 and that number. Multiply stat by 9. EX, stat is 7, so RNG between 1 and 70. Number must be anywhere between 1 thru 63 to win.

HSR can be found on the front page in the weather post, and will also be included in the game post. To add more risk to this game of chance you can change your HSR to a lower number, which lowers your chance of winning but ups the reward. EX, if the HSR is 3 you can try for 2 or 1, but not 4 or 5. You can't change your mind once you change your HSR, so think carefully!

Rewards!
Note: You only get points if you win. If you fail you only receive a participation point, which is given to you regardless of whether you win or lose.

Participation in game: 1 point towards any stat
HSR 1: 6 points towards chosen stat
HSR 2: 5 points towards chosen stat
HSR 3: 4 points towards chosen stat
HSR 4: 3 points towards chosen stat
HSR 5: 2 points towards chosen stat

- Pair -

How to play!
Number of Fumes required: 2
Instructions: The game involves a scenario and five options to choose from. In this game you have one of two choices. You and your partner can band together and pick a single choice, thus combining your stats and upping your chances of winning, or you can choose to each pick a single option, thus relying on your own stats which increases both the risk and the reward. Once you choose to either hunt together or separately you can't change your mind!

If you choose to attack individually, each person must post their own chosen option.

If you choose to attack as a pair, have one person post the option you're going with.

After you have chosen your option(s), you will be quoted with the results. For now pair hunters cannot choose to change their HSR like single hunters can, though this may change in the future.

Rewards!
Note: You only get points if you win. If you fail you only receive participation points, which are given to you regardless of whether you win or lose.

Participation in game: 1 point each towards any stat
HSR 1 or 2:
(Individual, 1 success 1 fail) 4 points towards any stat for successful Fume, 1 point towards any stat for unsuccessful Fume
(Individual, 2 successes) 5 points each towards any stat
(Group) 4 points each towards any stat

HSR 3 or 4:
(Individual, 1 success 1 fail) 3 points towards any stat for successful Fume, 1 point towards any stat for unsuccessful Fume
(Individual, 2 successes) 4 points each towards any stat
(Group) 3 points each towards any stat

HSR 5:
(Individual, 1 success 1 fail) 2 points towards any stat for successful Fume, 1 point towards any stat for unsuccessful Fume
(Individual, 2 successes) 3 points each towards any stat
(Group) 2 points each towards any stat

- Group -

How to play!
Number of Fumes required: 3-6
Instructions: The game involves a scenario and five options to choose from. As in the Pair game you now have choices. One choice is that each member of the group can select a different option, which increases the reward but decreases the chances of winning as you must rely on your own stats. Another choice is to attack in pairs or groups, which combines your stats and increases the chance of winning. Each attack group must be a minimum of two and can contain as many as four, and there can be multiple attack groups. EX, if your group contains 5 Fumes you can have 3 choose one option and 2 choose another option, or 4 choose one option and 1 attack individually, or have all 5 do individual attacks. It's up to you how you wish to proceed. Just know that once you choose to hunt individually or in groups, you can't change your mind!

If you choose to attack individually, each person must post their own chosen option.

If you choose to attack as a group, have one person post who is in the group and the option you're going with.

After you have all chosen your option(s), you will be quoted with the results. For now group hunters cannot choose to change their HSR like single hunters can, though this may change in the future.

Rewards!
Note: You only get points if you win. If you fail you only receive participation points, which are given to you regardless of whether you win or lose.

Participation in game: 1 point each towards any stat
HSR 1 or 2:
(Individual, mixed success and fail) 4 points towards any stat for successful Fumes, 1 point towards any stat for unsuccessful Fume
(Individual, all succeed) 6 points each towards any stat
(Groups, mixed success and fail) 4 points each towards any stat for successful Fumes, 1 point each towards any stat for unsuccessful Fumes
(Groups, all succeed) 5 points each towards any stat

HSR 3 or 4:
(Individual, mixed success and fail) 3 points towards any stat for successful Fumes, 1 point towards any stat for unsuccessful Fume
(Individual, all succeed) 5 points each towards any stat
(Groups, mixed success and fail) 3 points each towards any stat for successful Fumes, 1 point each towards any stat for unsuccessful Fumes
(Groups, all succeed) 4 points each towards any stat

HSR 5:
(Individual, mixed success and fail) 2 points towards any stat for successful Fumes, 1 point towards any stat for unsuccessful Fume
(Individual, all succeed) 4 points each towards any stat
(Groups, mixed success and fail) 2 points each towards any stat for successful Fumes, 1 point each towards any stat for unsuccessful Fumes
(Groups, all succeed) 3 points each towards any stat

Alrighty!

So gonna open up the first hunting game at the start of the second week, to give people time to see this and ask any questions they might have. You can roleplay like normal, even during the games if you want. If this catches on it might become a regular thing, if not then we'll work with stats more and make this an every now and then thing.

Steelspark felt tense, like a coiled spring. After Thundercloud's luck last week things had become lean again. He was out hunting with Iskiri and Starblade, hoping to find the deer herd. They had gone back to look after the storm, but it appeared the herd had moved on. Now with less rain this week, scent trails were sticking better and making tracking easier. As a good tracker herself she was on her own trying to discover if anything else was in the area. As an excellent solo hunter, if she did find something she was a good judge of whether she could handle it. Not that the males didn't have such a talent, but they thought it would be good for Starblade to learn more with them that week.

In the midst of her concentration a new smell broke through, causing Steelspark to pause. Frowning, she took in a deep breath, then slowly changed her course to investigate.

Weekly news

Sorry I missed week 2. I got caught up in a lot of things, plus I wanted to give people a chance to roleplay their Fumes in before we started a hunting game. We're welcoming Storm into the pack. Since neither Storm nor Ginger have posted yet, ya'll can post as though you've been part of the pack for a bit or you can just have them come in for this week. Whatever ya'll like.

So this week I'm going to put out the first hunting game scenario. You can either just do a roll or actually do a roleplay reply. The game will be in effect until the 22nd, so get your rolls in before then! Any questions you can can be PMed to me. For now you can only roll once per hunting game.

- Single Scenario -

With a lack of large prey sighted around the current location you decide to take a chance on hunting alone for small prey. You navigate stealthily through the terrain, ears up, nose to the wind, and eyes roaming. The pack has had several bad weeks, so every kill made is imporant for their survival. A scent suddenly catches you attention. You freeze, but the wind has carried it away. You hesitate, mind racing as you ponder what to do next.
If your roll is successful your catch can be either a rabbit, grouse, marmot, or squirrel.
If your instinct is even number and you roll an even number, or your instinct is an odd number and you roll an odd number, double your chance of success.
If your patience is even number and you roll an even number, or your patience is an odd number and you roll an odd number, and you have succeeded in your hunt, double your kill.

- Pair Scenario -

You and your partner are traveling together in the hopes of finding something slightly larger to bring down, though you are keeping your eyes peeled for any prey available. So far all you have heard is the mocking and scolding of birds and squirrels, safe in their leafy homes. As you approach a meadow you notice movement. Creeping forward, you both peek from the underbrush. Within the meadow is a flock of wild turkeys hunting for bugs among the tall grass. Better still you spot a small herd of deer, containing a young stag and two does.
1.) You go for the turkeys, attempting to sneak up on the flock and pick off a straggler.
2.) You go for the turkeys, charging the flock in hope that the sudden attack will cause them to freeze in panic and confusion.
3.) You go for the deer. You are noticed and they flee. You give chase, hoping to run one of them down.
4.) You go for the deer. As you sneak up on the herd the male notices you. He lowers his deadly horns and paws the ground with his sharp hooves, trying to warn you away from his harem.
5.) You go for the deer. You notice one of the does moves with a limp. You separate and sneak forward, attempting to flank her.

- Group Scenario -

For now the Group Scenario will be the same as the Pair Scenario.

Steelspark felt a bitter rush of disappoint as the squirrel whisked away from her jaws like smoke caught in the breeze. She knew the little tree crawlers were difficult to capture because of their speed and agility, but she'd hoped to have caught the thing by surprise. Obviously not. She sighed heavily. It wouldn't have been more than a mouthful anyway, but it was still disappointing. She didn't linger, for the day was still young and the pack badly needed any kill she could make.

Iskiri had found a rabbit. And upon opening the chase realized that there was no where for the rabbit to go, which was excellent. The sad part being that the rabbit had been eating better then him and was blazingly fast and cornered well. It stayed out of reach long enough that Iskiri tired and ol' cottontail just kept right on a running, Ugh. Grass for dinner again. Blegh.

Storm had gotten into an argument with a marmot. It was a nice butterball too if she could just best it in a battle she could bring something wonderful home to her new pack but sadly the thing had much different ideas. She tried to pin it down and thought she almost had it and leaned down....and it thrust up like some overy tiny wild stag and waddled off. Huffing as if she had offended it. She snarled complaints after it. Well it was a step up from rabbit after all. Darn.
