Uquin - Post 10

Uquin waited patiently, letting Biroki attend to the patient he was just finishing up, before he came quickly to inspect the burned woman. Something about this seemed to make the sage temporarily freeze, his breath juttery, and every motion of his body sent off stress signals that made Uquin feel equally nervous. He had almost naively thought that if he worked fast enough each patient would be saved - but as he looked back down at the (blessedly) unconscious woman he realized that that was wishful thinking.

Even if she survived the night, with burns so severe she could easily catch a fever and die within the next few weeks. Biroki would need to pour all of his powers into her to even heal the skin, and even then she would be severely scarred - and it was use of magic that Biroki, understandably, couldn't take.

For the first time, Uquin was presented with the possibility of a patient dying on him - and it was a terrifying, and sickening experience. So he was glad when Biroki took over for the burned woman, and instead motioned him to another woman - this time an Alkidike who was injured, but in a much more manageable way.

Which was good for Uquin, because it meant he could think towards the future and bind her arm so it would heal, not just focus on making sure she lived through the night. Shivering at the idea, he motioned for the woman and led her to sit at a cot. Even if Biroki seemed to think Uquin could handle this, the Alkidike seemed to disagree - and though her eyes were definitely affected somehow, she kept turning her head towards Biroki, who was the obviously skilled one here, seeming unwilling to permit a prentice to work on her. "Alright, how did this happen? What is your name?"

"Is that necessary? I'm here to get treated, so I can go back out to fight." She said, obviously annoyed.

"Yes - I need to see how your memory is, to see if you have a concussion - if you do then you shouldn't--"

"Treat the arm. All I need is one good one to help my sisters." The Alkidike responded, almost in a snarl, roughly gesturing to her arm.

With at least permission to tend to her arm, Uquin offered the woman a mouthful of herbs, which would numb her pain - but she refused it. Pfft, warrior's bravado he supposed. But to her credit as Uquin carefully touched at her arm, judging where the break was, and how best to realign it, she didn't make any sort of noise, pained or otherwise.

Realigning the arm was horrible, especially considering the angle it had been found at previously. But he'd been shown how to do this with a youngling who had broken his arm in his village, when he was young - and he hoped that experience would suffice, at least. Once it was reset, he squeezed the Alkidike's fingers to see if they were warm (they were), then set the splint, giving her instructions to wear it until she could be seen by another healer after the battle had calmed. Although by then, if she was really going back out into the fray, he doubted she'd come back without further injuries.

She did consent to kneel so he could wrap a makeshift bandage around her bleeding antenna, then stood and promptly left the tent, spear in hand.

(For reference, this is Ka's 11th post)

Kaalnia's back was starting to hurt. She'd carried at least seven people on her back in the last few minutes, some screaming, some just quiet. They'd been alive at least, and she'd chatted with them and tried to keep her spirits up - she was pretty good at that. She wondered how much more she could handle before she'd have to rest. She hadn't thought she'd needed a rest - the talking energized her and just being able to help someone else did wonders for her stamina. Also, the grateful looks of the female patients were worth it. And the annoyed ones too. Looks meant they'd be alive. She thought she'd be able to manage.

It was when the first dead ones had to be moved out of the camp that she started to wonder if a rest might not be perfectly acceptable after all. She took a dead body from a healer's bed and carried it out to the clearing. They were heavy and it was slow going. She supposed she could have gone faster, but she didn't feel right doing that. She looked at the dead person's face. They were not peaceful.

"Well..." she said, trying to be funny, but the attempt fell flat on its face. "Nevermind." she said, laying the corpse by the others. She turned back, noting that there were still more things to carry, and not enough people to carry them. She could not, in good faith, take a break when she - a big, strong, able-bodied Alkidike - was still needed.

"Guess I don't get a break." she muttered, glancing back at the growing population of the dead. "Not til I'm like you." she winced, and smiled wanly, "Yeah, that was a bad joke. Sorry." she laughed wanly before taking a deep breath and returning to camp, stretching her arms and looking for yet more people to carry - to their salvation or final rest.

Dyakida wanted to cover her ears. There was just too much happening. But she managed not to.

Instead, she tried to listen for somwhere she could help with, someplace that would need her.

But no.

Most of the jobs required sight in some way. From stiching, to tending, to sorting, to carrying, even. This was painfully frustrating.

She felt someone tap her on the shoulder.

"Hey! you! Alkidike lady! I've been waving at you!"

"I'm sorry." she said, turning towards the voice politely, "I cannot see, I'm afraid. Did you need something?" she asked, hopeful.

"That explains a lot."

Dyakida wondered if that was a good thing or a bad thing.

"Look. My master... he's a healer, and he has this Alkidike, and she wants to speak to another one. You're the nearest one not in a sickbed."

"Very... likely." said Dyakida. Her sisters were likely to be injured. She was not, safe and sound here in camp as she was. "Take me to her... Pahana? I'll... Be right back." she said, holding out a hand to be led.

"You'd better hurry. She isn't going to make it. Thats what I heard, anyway."

"Ah." said Dyakida. The man - she could assume it was a man, from the voice, though it could have been a deep-voiced woman for all she knew - had strange hands. The skin was flexible, but rough. No stranger to hard work, but also limber enough to do delicate things.

"In here."

The stranger nudged her into somewhere cool. She could feel the shade settle around her - a tent. She was guided to a bed.

"You... found one..."

The voice was weak and soft, but it had once been strong. Dyakida did not know it. "Sister?" she said, holding out her hand. The hand that reached out for hers was strong and calloused - a warriors hands. They gripped hers tightly before failing. The body behind them, she assumed, was weak.

"I know you... the blind artisan."

"yes." said Dyakida, holding the dying warriors hand between both of hers. She could feel the woman's heartbeat - slow and thready and getting threadier - and was surprised to not feel any dread... only a cold sense of anticipation.

"Your weapons... good."

"Thank you..." Obviously not good enough thought Dyakida grimly, Since you are here dying before me."
She could feel coughing wrack the womans body, though the explosive, wet noises blended into the general din of the camp. The woman's grip tightened again, a show of resolve.

"No... time... Tell my daughter... Tell her I fought well and that I love her..."

The woman gasped and Dyakida stroked her hand. "Who is your daughter? And where can I find her?" she asked, her voice quiet, almost neutral.

"Osala... Shes... home with the other children... Please... Do this for me..."

Osala Dyakida committed the name to memory. "I will." she said. She heard what could have been a whispered 'thank you', but it was covered up by the noise. She sat there for a moment longer, until the land was limp and the pulse was gone. She gently set the hand down.
"She's dead." she announced.

"Get her to the clearing then."

The voice was quiet and tired sounding, and Dyakida nodded. "If you help me get her on my back and show my sprite the way, I shall." she said, Peyla chiming nearby.

The dead woman was lifted onto her back, and she struggled with its weight until she managed to get it into a good position. Her staff was left there, to be retrieved, and Peyla hovered in front of her.

She knew the way, and was guided by Peyla's chimes to the clearing. There, she set the woman down, and then Peyla guided her back again. She retrieved her staff and loitered a moment, hoping for something to do or, perhaps, a thank you, before deciding that neither was forthcoming and seeking out Pahana again.

"Sorry to have been so long." she said. She reached out to touch the woman and establish her in space, guided by Peyla's chime, and was surprised at the texture that met her light fingers. Her crystals she realized. "May I assist you in any way?"

Pahana post 10

Pahana's hands remained clamped to her ears as the constant flow of victims came pouring through the trees. One after the other, following close, some barely clinging to reality. There were some she prayed she didn't recognize and some she prayed wouldn't recognize her as she stood there paralyzed and desperately clawing at herself for whatever scraps of sanity she could find, but the further she dug, the sharper the images would become, placing her back at square one. She had to act, she had to move, she was in the way, she was out of touch, what was she going to do! She couldn't just stand there like some idiot, could she? She wasn't one of the wounded! She had to move... She had to do something... Anything!

"YOUNGLINGS! OH GOSH!" She screamed, her movements becoming further panicked at Finnley's suggestion. Her nephews, where were they?! Yaholo was going to KILL HER, provided he wasn't already among those coming in from the other side! Oh, she hoped he'd be back, even if it meant a hammer smack to the head for losing track of his precious boys. He had worked so hard to earn them, to get them, to be where he is today, how could she lose them? She hopped off to the side, grabbing at her side buns, ultimately ruining their perfect form, and shrieked as her eyes met with one of the dead upon the ground before her.

"Pahana, sweetheart!"

Suddenly, a blanket was thrown upon her, and her father's voice was bringing her down. She found herself in a strange calm, where she could hear her father's calm, reassuring voice through a muffled filter, and all she could do was stare blankly at his face and bob her head at words she understood. He lead her inside a tent and sat her down towards a corner, where she could still see everything that was going on, but not be as involved in the action as the others. Her mind was still in that odd fashion as she looked up towards what everyone else was doing, her skin significantly paler than before seeing the first victim, and her head had flopped to the side to lean against a wooden support.

Still not injured, not quite sick, but... She wished she could stop shaking like she was.

Natsu post 11

The continuous influx of victims had set off a very primal instinct within Natsu, one that set him into a focus where he was able to process everything going on around him rapidly. His gaze flashed up to Finnley as she called and he flailed his hands over to where healing liquids and towels were laying.

"Don't just stand there! This man needs his wounds cleaned!" He cried, turning the man onto his side to get a better view of his stab wounds. "If we don't hurry, he could end up just like Rastian, near death due to Crystal Rot!"

Of course, Natsu didn't understand just how Crystal Rot worked or how long it took to kill someone, but he knew that it involved open wounds and that Jauhar happened to have the most cases thanks to what Rastian had told him. If they healed him quickly, they could potentially save his life, or stave off a horrific infection until a less chaotic time.

Viveka post 11

Viveka jumped slightly at Natsu's shouting, but gave him a firm nod in response. He was right, they needed to clean those wounds, bandage them tight, and in a hurry! He turned to Finnley and waved her toward where Natsu had pointed, almost bumping into Pahana and Cusick as they skirted past.

"You grab the towels, I'll grab the healing liquid!" He said, grabbing a handful of vials.

Samoset post 11

Samoset barely noticed that Ikuri had rejoined the group, his eyes focused on the scene across the way. But, when Chandra spoke, he turned his head and smiled.

"No, I haven't seen your sister." He replied, shrugging. "Maybe she's helping the adults?"

Kennet post 11

Kennet turned his head as Samoset spoke, his head tilting to the side. Why would any of the adults want a child to help them? Adults thought kids were useless. There was no reason for them to ask for help or for any child to bother to ask an adult if they could help. He huffed, softly, and flopped down against the grass.

"Why don't we play a game?" He suggested, squinting in mild opposition at his own thoughts as he spoke. "Like... We could see if we can spot animals in the trees or make up rhymes? It would be better than sitting here worrying."

There was a cry from an animal somewhere deep in the forest and then a loud and deep rumbling thud. It was hard to say if this was good news or not, but before long it would seem that all was revealed.

Within half an hour bodies were being brought out of the woods, most worse for the wear and some dead. Those who brought them out of the forest looked wide eyed and shaken beyond belief. Antiope rushed forward to gather one of the wounded while asking the question on everyone's mind. "What in Serin's name is going on out there?" She yelled out, her typically squeaky and happy voice taking on an edge of worry and somberness.

The man who passed off the unconscious body looked to Antiope before answering out with a shaking voice. "It's like they came out of nowhere. Three - I don't - It's all too fast - And then it came down - it was a frenzy. It just mowed everything in its path down." His words were choppy and broken, and before Antiope could ask any more he turned and sprinted back into the forest, this time heading in a direction far far away from the sounds of war.

Antiope got her grip on the man in her arms and called out for help. "Pull this one to a cot. He needs help." Antiope safely passed him on to someone before she began sprinting from one person to the next trying to find out anything about what is really going on in that forest.

Sathe (Post 14)

Sathe was finally able to do what she could for the man, her appetite long since gone. She didn't think she would be able to eat anything ever again after all of this. She wrapped the man's stomach tightly and gave him another dose of herbs for the pain before letting him be taken to a recovery cot somewhere else.

There was a loud rumble in the forest and Sathe sat motionlessly, waiting for what was to happen next. At the sight of all of the bodies being brought out of the forest her eyes widened. She couldn't help but think that this was bad. Very bad.

She reached towards the nearest body she could find. This time it was a young woman, no older than some of her friends in the village. She had deep bruises all over her body and when Sathe pushed gently to feel for breaks the unconscious girl still managed to moan in agony. There was a lot of damage here and Sathe didn't have any experience with setting bones. She looked around the camp for anyone that could help before turning back to her new patient.

Finnley: Post 11
Finnley paused awkwardly as Natsu more or less shouted at her snapped her out of it. If she were to be a healer, she would have to get used to this. She bustled about as Viveka helped her clean a man's wounds. "Viveka..do...do you think this man is going to live?" Finn asked him, her eyes wide with fear as she tried to do everything she could as things started getting worse and more injured people started pouring in.

Pidgeons Go Meow X3

"Wasn't waiting for you, but could use the help."

Dyakida was taken aback for a moment. She could have sworn that Pahana's voice was different. She'd only known the girl a short time, but... "I'm sorry, Pahana?"

"Nope. You looking for someone specific?"

"I, ah, yes. But you needed assistance."

"Well, too bad. you got me. Don't know a Pahana, but... Here." the woman took her by the arm. "Carry this one out. We need the space."

"I..." Dyakida hesitated, "All right." The body - disturbingly limp and cool - was loaded onto her back and she was pointed in the right direction. She got moving, cane outstretched to intercept any obstacles.

"Peyla... Can you find Pahana?" she asked the sprite, hearing the creature chime embarrassedly. She knew what she had done.

Dyakida set the body down and made her way back to the camp, helping in the healing tent (As best she could, anyway) until she could figure out where the girl was.... and if she was all right.

Peyla felt bad that she'd guided Dyakida to the wrong person, but Peyla didn't know that leaf girl either. Pahana had a nice sound to it and the sprite liked it and it wasn't Peyla's fault.

Peyla zipped around, not particularly wondering if her Alkidike would manage on her own. She had this job, so that job could wait. That was all. The scene of death, desperation, and despair meant nothing to Peyla as she flitted through, hovering near various young leaf women.

Was that her? Nope. Peyla checked. Not her. That one? nope. Too long-faced. Silly face. Peyla made a funy face at her to improve it but it did nothing so, bored, she moved on.

She tried inside a tent and found her. She knew it was her because the other leaf woman had funny face crystals and pretty hair, but the pretty hair was all mussed. And she was under a blanket. Peyla chimed in confusion. People weren't under blankets unless they were asleep. Prettypaha was sitting in a blanket, and it was strange, and her face was strange. She chimed again and zipped closer, alighting on the ground nearby. Was the lady sad? Was that it? Sad was bad. Peyla didn't like it when her Alkidiek was sad. She walked over, wings put up for now, and chimed again. Pay attention to her! Peyla could make sadness go away! She was good at it!

Whether she actually could was another story entirely.

Let us all hope that, when it comes time for me to figure out her class, Ikkio does not become a healer/defensive magic class O.O

Die. Death. It was strange for Ikkio to try and understand it, or why everybody was so upset about it.

"They leave?" she said, puzzled. "Then why are they supposed to be moved if they leave? Aren't they gone already?"

She was quiet for a moment as the information continued to digest in her head. "Mommy is fighting. Will she die?" her question was casual, almost oddly upbeat.

She held the wounds so that Senja could get at the little bits of dirt. Dirt was nasty in wounds. She bet that the warrior was in a lot of pain. But that wasn't why she was happy about helping to remove the crud. It was the power to make him stop hurting and to remove the nastiness. He couldn't do it himself. That was why he needed healers.

She wasn't sure what she was going to be when she grew up... but maybe that was why people became healers. For the power over others. That made sense. She liked that. She handed over the salve and bandages, feeling lordly and helpful.

As they moved on to the next burn patient, she piped up again.
"So where do they go?" she asked, "The people?" She still wasn't clear on the whole 'going' thing and why they needed a space of their own if they were dead and gone and weren't there, but she decided to run with it because a lot of things grown ups did made little sense to her.

Kaalnia really hated Undertaker duty. It was bad. So much failure, in so many ways, piled onto each other. It was just bad.

And repetitive. Take body, carry body, set body down. Sometimes she was taking two bodies at once. After a bit, they stopped being people, just more bodies. They stopped being so scary then.

"Well." she mumbled to her current one, trying to find a clear space to set them down. Him... her? she hadn't checked. She dared now. "Its not as if you're actually here anymore."

And then she made the mistake of looking back at them.

She shuddered.

Aisha's petals, their eyes were still open. She hurriedly closed them, but not fast enough to stem the nausea that rose inside her.

By mother's branches these were all people. They were all dead. Was it all going so badly? Why?

She could see, as she looked out over the filling clearing of bodies, far too many green ones that would have to go home. She bit back her nausea and set the dead woman - she knew it was a woman now, of the ice tribe, even - down in a free space. Then she ran off to the edge and, in private, relieved herself of her nausea.
It didn't do much except make her lose her meal and make her stomach hurt, and she didn't feel much better, but she felt she could keep going, now...

O.O I hope she doesn't go that path... power over others? Uh-oh...

Senja post 11
Senja looked down at the girl, she looked kinda.. happy? Oooookay.. This girls got a screw loose r something.
"Their spirit leaves this world. Their body decomposes to become one with the earth and soil. And.. well, I'd like to say no your mommy won't die. But this is war, and bad things happen during war," she sighed. Plus she didn't want to jinx anything by saying 'of course she won't die!'

"Death is.. Well, as I've not died and no one who has died has ever returned, we can't really say. But I do know that you can't see your loved ones anymore after they've died." She looked around sadly at the new people brought in, a bigger influx than before.
"I hope things don't get any worse...." She muttered as her eyes scanned the bodies looking for Rastian. He wasn't here yet... Which was good.. right? Either that or he'd died and hadn't bee brought in. She shook that thought from her mind. Positive! Think positive!

Makani Post 7

Maybe it was the fact that he couldn't see the carnage around him that allowed Makani to better focus. He was able to work on those that Gyuri brought to him, tending to the wounds that he could tend to, healing those he could heal, and those that he wasn't able to save he could at least ease their passing. Though his lack of sight wasn't something that was an all encompassing shield, not given what he was able to 'see'. The energy flickering around a person was what aided him to 'see' with his magic after all. Those who were close to dying, their energy was all but sputtering out, and he was able to see the very moment the last bit of them faded away into nothingness. There were just wounds dealt that even those using magical methods of healing just weren't able to fix. It really was a depressing sort of thing he thought to himself before he motioned to Gyuri.

"This one is alright for now, she will need a lot of rest and looking after. Maybe Eira will be able to do that?" He suggested, allowing for the giant to scoop up the unconscious woman that he was working with so that he could carrying her somewhere more comfortable to rest. It wasn't long before someone else was before him, also in need of assistance, and he was once more back to work. It seemed as though there were a stream of people in need of healing, some of them muttering about 'giant monsters' that had attacked. It was a frightening prospect, something that there was something giant out there... but he couldn't very well stop healing now could he? This was what he signed up for when he agreed to come along to this place with Eira and her troupe after all.

Gyuri Post 7

Gyuri looked over at Borra a moment before he moved to do as was asked of him, picking up the unconscious, fragile patient, and carried her over to a nearby cot. He eased her down onto it, making sure she was as comfortable as she could be given the situation before he was back to hovering over the others. The news that they were getting from the patients was the sort that put him on edge. It was his job to protect his group but how was he supposed to do that against giant monsters? Not to mention what were they supposed to do if those monsters came here to the camp? It would be a dangerous situation indeed of such things came somewhere that there were critical patients. He supposed that they could only hope that the army they came here with would be able to fend off the Oban army and their beasts.

If they were to come here then he'd have to protect his own... but again, what of the patients? It was something that had him fretting quite a bit on the inside even if he looked as serious as ever on the outside. He didn't want to leave anyone behind but his task was to protect the troupe right? Four of them were already so much responsibility... but now they had wounded to think about. It really made him wish that more people with fighting abilities had been left behind as guards for this camp. What if the those from Oban got here? What if some slipped around? Scouts or something? He'd have to do his best if that happened he supposed. For now he'd just continue to do as the others bade him to do while keeping Borra and Eira in his sights.

Eira Post 7

Eira looked over at her brother when he said her name, suggesting that she keep an eye on those who had already been treated. She supposed that it made sense for her to do so, the others in the group were already busy after all, but she wanted to also keep an ear open for any news from the front. What she was picking up thus far was news that shook her a bit, but she couldn't let it show. She was in charge of this group after all, she couldn't show weakness even if some of the injuries that were coming in were enough to make her stomach turn. She'd dealt with death in the past, her father was a hunter after all, but the death of a beast and the death of a man were two very different things it would seem.

"I will move between where the patients are resting and where they are coming in." She said after a moment, glad to be able to move from place to place, finding the pacing helped a bit to sooth her nerves. This would let her do two things at once as well as walk off nervous energy, it was probably for the best. This would be the last time she let Makani give the orders though, she didn't want her seat of power ousted by her little brother after all, "Everyone continue to keep your ears open... well, save for you Makani. You focus on healing." Everyone else could keep their ears open for any and all news from the front, allowing Makani to do the best healing he could at his age and magic level.

Aysun Post 11

Aysun looked up at his grandmother, giving her a smile, glad that she was there, hoping she'd be able to calm Chandra some. His poor brother, he really did look like he was all out of sorts... though Aysun could understand why. The injured were starting to come in, some worse then others, and it really drove home the fact that their family members were out there fighting. It was a horrible thing really but he couldn't let that get to him, not now, not when he had to look after his poor brother. Chandra was always the soft, quiet one, and that meant that he would need to look after him! He leaned over to wrap his arms around him, hugging him tight... when suddenly someone was yelling about a woman that was 'charred like a log' which wasn't a description that he liked.

Instantly he was standing up right, pushing up onto his toes to get a better look at the woman. It was an awful sight to behold... but he felt a touch of guilt ridden relief when he saw that it wasn't his mother. He turned to look at his twin and said, "Not Momma." He told her, patting him on the head, not wanting him to think the charred woman was her for even a moment. Did this mean he had to check all of the injured people then? Chandra didn't seem as though he wanted to look, did he?

Drawn from this thought by a girl's voice he turned to look at the girl the group had met earlier. His eyes went wide when he heard her ask about her sister, "I... I haven't, I'm sorry..." Her sister was lost? In the midst of all of this? How awful... made worse when it seemed that Chandra was going to break down more, "No, no... it's alright, Chandra! They are gonna be alright!" He told his twin, trying to reassure him.

Behind them Zahra knelt down, wrapping her arms around her grandsons, "Come on, how about the two of you come inside? I need to get to work but I think that it will do you both some good to be inside and away from all of this." She looked to the other younglings as well, "The three of you should go inside as well, it's best that those your age don't have to deal with such things." She said, nudging her grandsons toward the tent. She then pushed to her feet and started forward to aid in the healing, hoping that the little ones would listen to her advice.
