The wall ended, and America's eyes flickered open, revealing the stairs and two figures running up them. She wondered, for the briefest of moments, exactly how time worked between the portals and the rest of the world, and then dismissed it as unimportant and really, really confusing.

He made a disgusted, dismissive wave of his hand rather than accept any help. Whatever he'd done it hurt and Fiona was making the rustling uncomfortable noises she made whenever he managed to put a sizeable dent in his shield, but it wasn't hindering him. Not yet, anyway.
