Melody Dale

The red head continued to bluntly ignore her which made her more aggravated. She was about to open her mouth and vent her anger once more when the male rudely intervened. Educate her? What could she, a high classed citizen, possibly learn from a insignificant dolt!? Obviously, he was sore because apprehended his precious book. He was able to repossess his object easily so why injure her over it? He was insane and unaware of her intensive relationship with royalty. Of course, Kaleb wanted to arouse an reaction from her, but she would give him the pleasure of her distress.

Melody had caused enough misfortune for herself for one day, and without a word she stuttered away. The ball awaited her admiring presences so there was no reason to waste her time in the headquarters with that juvenile any longer. Going down stairs and back out to the steeples, she mounted the white mare and trotted away.

Kaleb couldn't help but smirk between his pages, Melody obviously had no idea who he really was. He was a member of the Leifsson Family, a prominent group within the royal court. To look at him like she did was stupid and whether or not she was getting busy with the Prince or what not, he was not King yet and that didn't make her queen and she would know respect for him. But now was not the time for that.

She would learn. But because she'd been a b***h and walked out, she now didn't know about the training session. Oh well, her loss. Kaleb then stood up, smiled to himself and walked while reading towards the ball.

Hands behind her head she yawned "Man, no one is ever here.." Trisha walked through out the premises and wondered who was even in head quarters "I haven't seen another MP solider all day." Maybe I should've joined the scouts or garrison, I'd be having a hell of a lot more fun that's for sure. "I wish there was something I could do.." she groaned to herself.

So far the Military Police Headquarters had been very quiet, nothing out of the ordinary really. Captain Musei was off on some mission outside the safety of Wall Sina, and a fair number of their soldiers had gone with him. Those that hadn’t were wandering about the town, but none of them seemed to be in the headquarters when Aliya walked in. She found the place perfectly abandoned, and the absence of people was a welcomed relief. Tucked under her arm was a well-worn leather bound book that was slowly coming undone at the spine, one that she’d intended to use as a back-up plan should no one be around, and luckily for her she’d get the chance to enjoy it. With a quick check of her 3D maneuvering gear and a slight adjustment, Aliya launched one of the hooks toward the roof, pulling it back just in time to keep it from latching into anything so that the weight of the hook brought the wire back to swing over the top of one of the rafter beams. Giving it a bit more wire so that the hook would fall back toward her, she reached up and took the hook in hand, rethreading the end into the extra reel on her other side. By then it was easy to slowly hoist her feet off the ground, tightening the reel gears as slowly as she could until her feet were at eye level and she was balanced between the two tightly grasping reels.

This was perhaps Aliya’s favorite spot to sit. To most, what she was doing was probably impossible, especially since the spare reels weren’t standard equipment, for her it was a daily routine. Nearly all the military police were bound to see her like that at some point or another, many of them must have already. Being as normal as it was to her, it was almost natural to start a slow swing, kicking her feet forward and back while she took her book from her arm and opened it in her right hand. The slow rock of her feet had made the line move slightly, forcing her forward bit by bit until the wire caught in a notch that had slowly developed from her daily routine. There, she was free to rock as much as she wanted as no amount of movement seemed to set it free while she swung.

In the following minutes there was hardly a sound at all. The rub of the line on wood caused an occasional squeak, and there was the rather frequent sounds of old ivory pages turning, but for the most part Aliya was quiet. In fact, she let the air stew in the quiet for a good ten minutes before she bothered with a vocal thought. “Wonder where the Cap’n is.” she muttered to herself with another turn of the page.

XXXXXCalm orange eyes shifted across the various things lining the hallway of the Military Police Headquarters. It had been quite some time since he actually walked through and admired what was placed around to make the place less dreary and more just rich, like a place where those that grew up in money and belong to money. Having grown up in a poor town with his parents like a commoner Tenrai wasn't one to pass up good art or just good things to look at, especially now that he could live a better life and maybe one day make the world a better place should he be called to do so. After getting into the Military Police he wrote to his mother immediately, telling her the "good news" that he was going to be able to provide for her and himself now. In his hand was a small portable shogi board for when he entered a room with a table and seats to sit at. One of his favorite things to do when he wasn't working was to just relax and place a nice game of Shogi, either against someone willing to play him or just by himself. It helped with his ability to form tactics on the battlefield, alongside just being a fun thing to do with friends or comrades.

XXXXXStepping into the silent area of the main Headquarters, where most of the people stayed when they were off duty Tenrai glanced around, a quiet sigh escaping his lips. Without people there he had no one to play against with his Shogi board, so it would seem he would be playing alone again. He wasn't the most sociable person in the Military Police, so it was a bit rough for him to just go asking people to play; so he usually stuck with the same people who showed interest previously and would just ask them to play against him. Due to the quietness that had settled over the area Tenrai had a rather easy time hearing what sounded like soft squeaking alongside ivory pages within a book being turned by someone. Turning his head slightly towards the sound he caught sight of his Lieutenant dangling from the wood within the headquarters, reading what he guessed was a book she enjoyed. Raising a single black eyebrow Tenrai let out a soft chuckle before walking silently over towards the woman. Stopping before her he cleared his throat before speaking in a calm tone, his deep voice rumbling from deep within his chest before reverberating throughout the quiet headquarter. "Good morning Lieutenant. I see you are in the middle of reading but would you perhaps be interested in a game of Shogi?" No one could say he wasn't a civil man, despite the piercingly analytical gaze he had locked on his Lieutenant.

Aliya glanced up from her book just as the sound of a man clearing his throat caught her ears. She wasn’t very familiar with the face she saw, partly because he wasn’t all that important, and partly because she just didn’t care. It took a moment of staring to place those orange eyes to a name, but it did come to her in time. Tenrai was another of the older members of the Military Police, he’d joined only shortly after she had, and had become known for his own agility and speed which, supposedly, rivalled her own. The thing was, he was too big to be so agile and quick to move, bigger bodies caught too much air to move the way she did, and chances were he wasn’t skilled enough to use his 3D maneuvering gear in the manner she was at that moment. The thought of it gave her an idea.

“Tenrai, I’m a bit surprised to see you here. This place is usually so busy; I’d have thought you’d avoid it like the plague.” Aliya remarked, her tone playful as she swung her feet forward with a strong kick to move a little more on her swing. Her movement was now constant and steady, forward, backward with the faintest of rubbing noises coming from the rafter overhead. She cast a smile toward Tenrai, one that was playful, but not in the harmless ways of someone else her size. Instead it had its own hint of hidden cruelty, mixed with a bit of thoughtful glee. “If you’d like someone to play Shogi with I’d be happy to play, but you see… I’m not in the mood to lower from the rafters yet. So if you and your Shogi board would like to join me up here I’ll play, otherwise you’ll have to find someone else.” It was spoken more as a challenge than a joke.

Just getting level with her was a task, as without the spare reel there were very few ways for anyone to even attach to the rafters as she had. The only way she’d ever seen someone try her little challenge, the only one who’d ever come close, was by going up onto the rafters and interlocking the hooks before jumping down and letting the line out till they were level with her. It had worked, for a moment, but without a solid anchor for the hooks to grab onto they couldn’t hold themselves well, and the weight of the person had pulled the hooks apart and sent them crashing to the ground. No one had taken her challenge since then, and she was beginning to miss the amusement of so many failed attempts. Perhaps Tenrai would enlighten her, and maybe he’d even be successful, though that seemed unlikely. She’d chosen him as a victim for a reason after all, something like this required a small frame and nearly perfect balance, something she doubted he had. Besides that, even once he was up there, how on earth would they play Shogi while swinging from the rafters? Unless he had a spare set of maneuvering gear for his board game that just wouldn’t happen, and that’s exactly what she was counting on.

XXXXXTilting his head slightly to the side Tenrai merely continued to stare calmly at Aliya, waiting for her to speak as she stared at him in return. He could tell from the way she looked at him that she didn't recognize him right away, something that he didn't really find offensive considering he hardly interacted with the woman outside of the scarce mission they did together. She had a well known reputation of being one of the fastest and most agile members within the Military Police, himself being not that far behind her in terms of basic skill using the 3D maneuvering gear. He was proud of that fact, since many people believed he would be unable to be agile due to his incredibly large stature of over six foot tall. He aimed to prove them wrong alongside get out of the commoner life completely by joining the Military Police, and he'd already accomplished both of those, though he still liked to refer to himself as a "Commoner" since he felt that the rich people didn't deserve to even be called humans due to their incredibly greedy and disgusting ways of life.

XXXXXIt would seem his Lieutenant wanted to joke somewhat with him, by pointing out that he indeed did dislike the busy atmosphere of the Military Police main headquarters, he was what many people considered an introvert, someone who loved to be alone versus in public and around other people. Shrugging his shoulders in response to the statement Tenrai watched as she swung her feet on what he would assume was a swing. He had never dealt much with things like that as a child, so he didn't know much about how they worked; so it was a bit surprising for him to see how it worked. Raising an eyebrow in slight shock at the playful smile the woman sent his way Tenrai couldn't help but let out a low chuckle, amused at how she was acting. It was an interesting contrast compared to how he normally saw the Lieutenant, which was typically not that often so he didn't have much of an opinion formed about her. When she told him that the only way she would play Shogi was to meet her up in the air Tenrai couldn't help but sigh in slight frustration. Thankfully the pieces themselves were magnetic, but it didn't make the task any less annoying in his opinion. "Hn. Very well, give me a moment." His tone was calm as usual, his orange eyes shifting to look at the ceiling for a moment in thought.

XXXXXIt wasn't an incredibly hard task per se but it was just the thought that this was the only way he'd be able to play another human being. Tossing the Shogi board into the air Tenrai allowed himself to fall backwards, aiming the hook launchers on his belt at the ceiling before reaching down to fire them into the rafters above. When they attached with a solid clunk to the wood he allowed himself to be pulled swiftly into the air. The rush of the wind blew through his hair, messing up the neatly done black and red locks as he did so. When he was about to reach the same level as Aliya he stopped the gas flowing through the 3D Maneuver Gear, causing him to suspend in mid-air a few feet from her, with that done he shot his hand out, grabbing the still airborne Shogi board before it could fall to the ground below. Board in hand he tensed the muscles within his abs alongside the lumbar in his back, which allowed him to flip his body around so that he was upright within his harness, coming face to face with his Lieutenant. With that done he once more fell back slightly, tightening his abs to an almost abnormal state which allowed him to practically sit in the air. With that done he brought one leg over the other; so he was sitting cross-legged whilst hanging from the 3D Maneuver Gear. Unfolding the Shogi board he placed it atop his leg, throwing one of the small boxes containing the Sente (black) set of pieces to her, keeping the Gote (white) pieces for himself. "Happy? Are you ready to play now Lieutenant." Was his cool statement, his piercing orange eyes staring at the short woman with a slight look of annoyance in them.

Setting her book on her lap momentarily, the lieutenant watched with bemusement as her fellow soldier tossed the shogi board high into the air so he could come to join her in the rafters. She had to admit she was impressed he’d even try, and was even more impressed he was successful. That was the first time someone had ever tried something like that, most of them thought her way of having ‘both’ wires overhead was the only way to do it, but that was practically impossible for anyone without the additional reels as she had. He seemed well in control of his gear, more than she’d been expecting, and he was already level with her before the box started its descent back to the ground. She closed her book just as the board landed back in his hands, smirking at him. Without anywhere to set the book, she tucked it under the center of her gear belt behind her back where it was pressed between her and the strap and wouldn’t threaten to fall.

Just as she finished adjusting to the books placement he tossed the small box of pieces to her. Not expecting the throw, it flew past her, plummeting toward the ground. In an attempt to save face, Aliya swung her legs forward quickly to build momentum then at the peak of her swing she let out on the reel, using a small amount of gas to speed up faster than gravity would bring her down so that she could catch up to the box. Rapidly falling toward the ground with the wire still holding her from both sides, only given the slack to let her fall, she leaned back- hand outstretched- and plucked the box out of thin air. She was mere inches from the ground when the reels came to a stop, the hook that she’d fed through caught on the safety notch she’d implemented into her additional reel for just such an occasion. Smirking, Aliya slowly righted herself, holding the box of tiles above her head triumphantly before reengaging the reels to return to her position in the air, leveling out with Tenrai.

”Warn a lady before you start throwing things at her.” She teased. Once she’d stabilized back in her previous position the lieutenant spared a moment to straighten her hair and clothes. The gold circlet-like hair piece had held most of her hair in place, except a few stray bangs which clung to the side of her face just to the left of her eye. The black skirt she wore so well had caught on one of the many belts of her 3DMG and was being none too kind about previewing her undergarments. Thankfully for her, she never wore her skirt with her gear without some type of leggings or standard issue protective clothing underneath. The rest of her clothing was being perfectly cooperative, so without further ado and her skirt properly straightened, she turned her attention back on Tenrai and his game. She opened the case of pieces, weighing them in her hand shortly before leaning forward to set them on the board appropriately.

”I see you gave me Sente, is it to be a gentleman and give me the beginners advantage, or do you apply the strategy of first to fight, first to die?” The way she said it was not so much a question of his Shogi strategy, but more so a question of his humanity. It was a well-known fact that the military police were not particularly humane, but risks for humanities sake were still expected of them. She was curious which category he belonged to, after all, she knew her own place, it was best he knew his.

XXXXXTenrai watched with a disinterested gaze as the box of Sente pieces flew past Aliya, causing her to have to actually go and retrieve the box before they hit the ground below. It was a good show of her actual skill with the 3D Maneuver Gear, but he'd already seen her in action before so it wasn't really anything new to him. Leaning forward slightly to rest his elbow atop his knee, with his chin in his open palm Tenrai couldn't help but give a soft chuckle as she finally grabbed the box and ascended to eye height once more. When she joked about warning her next time he was going to throw something at her he couldn't help but tilt his head back and let out a genuine laugh, not the soft chuckles he'd been doing but a true belly laugh. After a minute of doing so he reached up to wipe away an imaginary tear, catching his breathe before speaking in an amused tone. "Ah..my bad, I figured you'd be able to catch it without having to do well..that." He wasn't really sure why he found it as funny as he did; maybe it was that he had built up a specific image of how Aliya would act will not on a mission, or it could just be that he was that bored that he would find something as simple as missing a box of Shogi pieces funny.

XXXXXAfter calming himself down he watched her take the pieces from the box before placing them in the proper places upon the board. He let a smirk cross his lips as she spoke, not his usual half smile that he liked to do, a true vicious smirk that said much about just how he felt about what was going on. He was always one that enjoyed a good hunt, though in this situation it was less of a physical hunt and more of a mental hunt; one where the two would have to battle wits and see who could evade the others traps long enough to win the battle. Focusing his attention upon her words once more he tilted his head to the side, tapping his chin in thought before removing the lip of his own pieces to place them atop the board that currently rested on his knee. "Who knows. It could be me being a gentleman...or perhaps it's me allowing you the first move, after all...what good is a hunt without a proper chase?" His slightly longer than normal canines showed as he let another smirk dance across his lips. If there was one thing he loved about challenging people to a game of Shogi, it was the feeling that he saw cross their face when he destroyed them without much difficulty, simply because he had the better mind frame going into the game than his opponent.

XXXXXLetting the grin fall from his face Tenrai allowed his intimidating gaze to lock fully onto Aliya, any movement she made he wanted to be able to see and break down, every place she looked, every way she twitched her muscles. It was all there to help in the game he played, despite the game of Shogi being something for fun, he also used it to gauge the intelligence and preciseness of his opponent. The way they placed a piece could be more graceful and precise than others, or more clumsy and forceful. He used the game to get a feel for how his potential comrades thought, moved, reacted; all in hopes of being able to further understand them should they ever go on the field together. To some it may seem like a waste of time and effort, but to those smart enough to realize the vast ocean of knowledge that could be gathered from how one played Shogi, it was a plan thought up with hours of time put into it. It was what many could consider one of the best ways to get to know someone, though those few that stuck to their beliefs that Shogi was merely a game to play would realize eventually just how wrong they were. "What will you do Lieutenant? I'm waiting." Was his simple, cool statement to the woman before him.

Aliya Selton

Aliya leaned forward slightly, shifting her feet back behind her as if she were swimming in mid air, the soles of her feet nearly together to insure her balance. Her arms were folded in front of her in contemplation while she waited on Tenrai’s move. It had been a long time since she’d played Shogi, and she didn’t really submit to the opinion it was the best measure of a statistician. In fact, last time she’d played Shogi she’d had her a** royally handed to her on a silver platter by a commoner on the streets of Karanese. Sure she knew old men were good at Shogi, but she’d never been expecting that, and she’d avoided the game since. Seeing Tenrai, that excited gleam on his face, it both amused and annoyed her. He was well accustomed to the game, no doubt he was good at it and knew every strategy in the book, but Aliya wasn’t like him. She didn’t make games her daily routine, she didn’t sit and stare at painted tiles and call it strategic practice. Instead, she spent her time doing just what she was doing then: hanging from her 3DMG as if it were a trapeze and dangling her feet in the way of everyone’s head.

Unfortunately for her, Tenrai was making her daily routine seem a little less special. While she was pleasantly surprised to see someone succeed at getting on her level, it annoyed her that he was actually managing to hold himself, and the board, upright without much trouble. He had the upper body strength for it that she didn’t, that she willingly accepted, but the perfect balance annoyed her after a time. She tried to focus on the game in short spurts, moving a tile forward or back in accordance with the board and the rules, but her mind so often seemed to wander to ways to right his perfect balance. Kicking him was an option, she supposed, but that would look deliberate if she weren’t careful. There was always the possibility of having a ‘gear malfunction’ and knocking into him, hard, to set him off balance. If he really was using all his strength to keep himself righted as she suspected, any minor perturbance would probably flip the poor kid upside down. Just what she wanted.

Tapping the king for a moment, she waited, gauging his face, his smirk, the way he watched her and waited. “A hunter are you? I never would have suspected that with a boy like yourself. But I do agree, the fun is in the chase, not the kill. Why else would I spend more time flying around Titans than killing them?” it was meant as a bit of a joking response, she’d said it very light heartedly as if it were just simple conversation. The thing is, the connotation of her words wasn’t. She watched his eyes, looking for a tell, curious to see how he’d react under scrutiny of any form. Sure they’d been on missions together before, but this was Aliya’s first real chance to truly sit and analyze him, small prying questions such as those were only the start of her inquiries.

XXXXXTenrai smiled, a small smile dancing across his lips, one of slight amusement and patience, showing that he was willing to wait for Aliya to make a move or speak. Despite being a person who avoids the public, he was still someone you could hold a conversation with quite well, being a polite yet somewhat sarcastic man. He was known for his subtle jabs while speaking to someone, usually ones that were thrown in with a nice sentence that just made the person he was talking to feel like stupid, versus the usual sarcasm people use where they just use it in every sentence in hopes of just annoying people. He could see slight annoyance in Aliya's eyes, but he just ignored it since he had seen it many times before this with other people playing against him. They got annoyed at how he acted when playing, or just annoyed that he was better than them at Shogi. He usually just sat there patiently waiting for them to do something, since nudging them to make moves faster would just cause conflict between them. He could tell from the way she moved that she was comfortable using the 3DMG to do what they were doing; hanging around from the ceiling. It was an amusing thought, knowing that someone actually enjoyed just hanging around like someone from the circus.

XXXXXSetting his chin once again atop his palm, Tenrai tilted his head to the side slightly, staring calmly at Aliya as she looked back at him. He could tell by the way she was looking at him somewhat sneakily at times that she wanted to do something that he wouldn't like, buy he decided it would be best to ignore that since almost anything she could do aside from attempt to stab him for some reason he could rather easily react to. Despite using quite a lot of his energy to stay sitting the way he was, he could just transfer momentum from falling to shift back into a rather comfortable position within his 3DMG. Narrowing his piercing orange eyes upon his Lieutenant Tenrai let out a quiet sigh, tapping his left foot in the air; as if tapping the ground with his foot to pass time. While doing this he allowed his gaze to roam along Aliya's body subtly, not in a perverted way but more of an analytical way of looking at how she moved and reacted to things; wind, accidental excess movement, how she righted herself after swinging forward to move a Shogi piece.

XXXXXWhen she asked if he was a hunter, alongside making a jab at his slightly younger age Tenrai couldn't help but raise an eyebrow before giving a slight smirk. Not one to get annoyed when one joked about something he merely gave her a somewhat honest answer, his voice carrying the slight amusement he felt. "I guess you could say that. Though just as you didn't expect me being a hunter, one would not usually expect someone as short as you to be a Lieutenant in the military, but here you are." His orange eyes sparkled with mirth as he spoke, wanting to goad the woman into overreacting or to make her get angry at him for his words. Most shorter people hated being told they were short, especially by someone so much taller than them. His jokes were all in good fun, but he didn't really mind if she got upset over them, since it would just make him laugh most likely. He righted his head from the titled position before moving one of his pieces forward thoughtlessly, not paying much attention to the board as a whole since he really didn't feel he would need to.

The man looked important, acted important, was important. Anyone with two eyes that worked could see that. He was dressed impeccably, and walked with the stride that, despite his age, betrayed his top physical condition under the blue coat. Of course, anyone with a brain that worked would recognize Jeremiah Chase from a mile away, the head of the Chase family one of the owners and operators of the many factories that created weapons for the military branches. Of course, seeing him in public was a rare sight indeed; ever since his son had went missing so many years ago, he'd shut himself in, though rumor from his servants was that despite his shut-in standings, he kept himself active on the large premises of the Chase manor, so his health did not deteriorate. Occasionally he would be seen at the lavish parties, and from his calm, sociable demeanor, one would never guess he could be so isolated.

Jeremiah wrinkled his brow as he looked up at the building, as if annoyed to be carrying out this task on such a day. He raised a hand and knocked on the door, not hard, but loud enough to alert someone inside of his presence. He had business with the Military Police today, he thought. Business he would wish to conclude promptly.

Nemo Axius

The young captain was in the main hall at the time, sitting cross legged on one of the couches and going over his daily reports. His full attention was stolen however, when he heard an audible knock emanating from the entrance. One of his hands plucked the quickly dissolving lollipop from his mouth and tossed it in the trash, while the other hand balanced the important pile of documents as he headed towards the source of the noise. He reached the source, pausing momentarily to tuck the papers into a satchel, before gently swinging the door open. Nemo identified the visitor immediately, anyone would, it was the Jeremiah Case.

Despite the sudden appearance of someone of his standings, Nemo made no visual reaction. He simply looked the man up and down, and beckoned him inside with his hand "I presume there's a reason for your visit?" Nemo asked, in a deadpan manner "Shall we talk here? Or will this discussion require privacy?" He continued, his voice and expression, or lack of, remained the same "I suppose you'll be wanting tea too..."

"It is a good day outside, however I would prefer that I speak with you in a more private setting if you would." Jeremiah smiled warmly, looking like someone's kindly grandfather, albeit a very well-dressed kindly grandfather. "And yes, tea would be lovely."

It was not lost on him how rare it was for himself to be in public. Perhaps he simply preferred his life in the countryside, at the massive Chase estate where he did not have to deal with the hustle and bustle and petty politics of the city, though even he admitted that he could not avoid them; being as prolific as he was, he still had to venture to the factories for inspections and publicity tours. This visit, however, was for another reason, namely him retrieving something of almost infinite importance.

Nemo Axius

Nemo was, despite his lack of showing, quite surprised by how polite this man in front of him was. Most of the rich fat-cats living within the inner district stuck their noses in the air, exhibiting an air of elitism. Nemo could hardly stand those kinds of people, but being Captain of the Military Police meant he had to get used to them. Jeremiah Chase, seemed different to them though. Admittedly, Nemo had only heard rumours and tales of the man, and didn't know him on a personal level... So perhaps the man could simply be playing nice, Nemo would never know the difference. Besides, he rarely had the pleasure of company.

"Ah, right this way then." Nemo spoke as he began walking to his office. The room itself was rather clean. As opposed to the messy desk that sat in the middle of the room, a stack of documents and a teapot atop it. Nemo took a seat behind it, motioned for the man to take a seat opposite him, and pulled out two mugs from within the desk drawer "I made this earlier, it should still be hot." He mentioned as he began pouring the liquid from the teapot into the two mugs. He dropped several sugar cubes into his own, before passing the bowl of sugar cubes and the tea to the man "I would've done it myself, but I'm not sure how you take your tea."

The innumerable sugar cubes Nemo dropped into his own cup, turned his tea into a horrifically sweet viscous liquid. He took a sip, and his mouth formed a tiny smile, apparently forgetting he had company. He lost his smile and cleared his throat as he came to realise where he was "Right. You had something you wanted to discuss?"
